  • Implementing Audit Trail- Spring AOP vs.Hibernate Interceptor vs DB Trigger

    - by RN
    I found couple of discussion threads on this- but nothing which brought a comparison of all three mechanism under one thread. So here is my question... I need to audit DB changes- insert\updates\deletes to business objects. I can think of three ways to do this 1) DB Triggers 2) Hibernate interceptors 3) Spring AOP (This question is specific to a Spring\Hibernate\RDBMS- I guess this is neutral to java\c# or hibernate\nhibernate- but if your answer is dependent upon C++ or Java or specific implementation of hibernate- please specify) What are the pros and cons of selecting one of these strategies ? I am not asking for implementation details.-This is a design discussion. I am hoping we can make this as a part of community wiki

  • MVVM: How to handle interaction between nested ViewModels?

    - by Dan Bryant
    I'm been experimenting with the oft-mentioned MVVM pattern and I've been having a hard time defining clear boundaries in some cases. In my application, I have a dialog that allows me to create a Connection to a Controller. There is a ViewModel class for the dialog, which is simple enough. However, the dialog also hosts an additional control (chosen by a ContentTemplateSelector), which varies depending on the particular type of Controller that's being connected. This control has its own ViewModel. The issue I'm encountering is that, when I close the dialog by pressing OK, I need to actually create the requested connection, which requires information captured in the inner Controller-specific ViewModel class. It's tempting to simply have all of the Controller-specific ViewModel classes implement a common interface that constructs the connection, but should the inner ViewModel really be in charge of this construction? My general question is: are there are any generally-accepted design patterns for how ViewModels should interact with eachother, particularly when a 'parent' VM needs help from a 'child' VM in order to know what to do?

  • How do I create Tetris Blocks in XNA with C#?

    - by Slateboard
    I'm making a Tetris Clone in C# with XNA, and I'm unsure of how to actually implement the blocks. I don't think that making the shapes as images will work (because parts are removed when lines are formed), so I Have blocks to make up the pieces like This. Unfortunately, I don't know how to actually define the blocks to make the pieces, nor do I know how to manipulate them to make them rotate, etc. Edit: I would also need assistance in learning how to make the Tetris Grid too.

  • Good place to look for example Database Designs - Best practices

    - by Younes
    I have been given the task to design a database to store a lot of information for our company. Because the task is rather big and contains multiple modules where users should be able to do stuff, I'm worried about designing a good data model for this. I just don't want to end up with a badly designed database. I want to have some decent examples of database structures for contracts / billing / orders etc to combine those in one nice relational database. Are there any resources out there that can help me with some examples regarding this?

  • Using Unreal 3 Engine within a .NET application

    - by bitbonk
    Now that the Unreal Development Kit for Unreal 3 engine is free I am thinking about utilizing it for an appication. Do you think it is possible to emebedd a Unreal 3 powered 3D window into a .NET (WPF or Windows Forms) and control parts of the gameobjects therein using c#? Is the engine plain c++? Or COM or is there a .NET wrapper or something?

  • WinForms - Localization - UI controls positions different in additional Culture

    - by binball
    Hi, I did my UI settings.Original language is English. After that I set Localizable property to True. Copied original resx file to frmMain.de-De.resx (for example). Translated all strings. Everything works. But now I would like to change positions of controls. After that changes are visible only for original/primary Culture (En). When I change Culture to de-De then UI controls are on the "old positions"(?!) Is this normal behaviour? :O I'm unable to change controls positions on my form after localization? Can someone explain me this and give some best solution. I really have to change UI design but I don't want to manual copy all translated strings again. If my description is not clear then I can post source code, just please let me know. I use VS 2008. Greetz!

  • How To Create An ASP.NET Designer Host

    - by Zuhaib
    I have been asked to build an application where I can drag and drop few WebControls onto the WebPage designer surface. So far I have read some articles on .NET Framework Design-Time architecture, like, MSDN Article: Hosting WinForms Designers, Developer Function Article etc. But I can't a find a way to host WebForms designer. The only open source implementation that I could find was Mono Develop ASP.NET Visual Designer. But in mono they have used GTK# & Gecko etc to host the designer. I can't find a way to do the same using WinForms. Please suggest me what should I do. Give me some pointers. Should I go ahead and implement it using GTK# and Gecko? PS: My requirement is not very huge. I need just a way to drag and drop simple web controls and save the page.

  • C# Solution - How many projects?

    - by Oskar Kjellin
    Hey, I googled this a little but couldn't find a good result. Right now I'm building a web site and I'm trying to make it as correct as possible from a design point of view from the beginning. The problem I'm now facing is that when deciding to start with logging I needed a project to place this code in. As I could not find a suitable place in my currect projects I thought: hey, why not a logging class library? Is there a general guideline on how many projects you should have? I know this would be a rather small project but it would be nice to entirely get it out of my way! Any hints are appreciated :)

  • UDK: Error, Unrecognized member 'OpenMenu' in class 'GameUISceneClient'

    - by Ricket
    Upon compiling, I am getting the following error: C:\UDK\UDK-2010-03\Development\Src\FixIt\Classes\ZInteraction.uc(41) : Error, Unrecognized member 'OpenMenu' in class 'GameUISceneClient' Line 41 is the following: GetSceneClient().OpenMenu("ZInterface.ZNLGWindow"); But when I search for OpenMenu, I find that it is indeed defined in GameUISceneClient.uc of the UDK: Line 1507: exec function OpenMenu( string MenuPath, optional int PlayerIndex=INDEX_NONE ) It looks like I have everything correct. So what's wrong? Why can't it find the OpenMenu function?

  • Issues with HLSL and lighting

    - by numerical25
    I am trying figure out whats going on with my HLSL code but I have no way of debugging it cause C++ gives off no errors. The application just closes when I run it. I am trying to add lighting to a 3d plane I made. below is my HLSL. The problem consist when my Pixel shader method returns the struct "outColor" . If I change the return value back to the struct "psInput" , everything goes back to working again. My light vectors and colors are at the top of the fx file // PS_INPUT - input variables to the pixel shader // This struct is created and fill in by the // vertex shader cbuffer Variables { matrix Projection; matrix World; float TimeStep; }; struct PS_INPUT { float4 Pos : SV_POSITION; float4 Color : COLOR0; float3 Normal : TEXCOORD0; float3 ViewVector : TEXCOORD1; }; float specpower = 80.0f; float3 camPos = float3(0.0f, 9.0, -256.0f); float3 DirectLightColor = float3(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f); float3 DirectLightVector = float3(0.0f, 0.602f, 0.70f); float3 AmbientLightColor = float3(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f); /*************************************** * Lighting functions ***************************************/ /********************************* * CalculateAmbient - * inputs - * vKa material's reflective color * lightColor - the ambient color of the lightsource * output - ambient color *********************************/ float3 CalculateAmbient(float3 vKa, float3 lightColor) { float3 vAmbient = vKa * lightColor; return vAmbient; } /********************************* * CalculateDiffuse - * inputs - * material color * The color of the direct light * the local normal * the vector of the direct light * output - difuse color *********************************/ float3 CalculateDiffuse(float3 baseColor, float3 lightColor, float3 normal, float3 lightVector) { float3 vDiffuse = baseColor * lightColor * saturate(dot(normal, lightVector)); return vDiffuse; } /********************************* * CalculateSpecular - * inputs - * viewVector * the direct light vector * the normal * output - specular highlight *********************************/ float CalculateSpecular(float3 viewVector, float3 lightVector, float3 normal) { float3 vReflect = reflect(lightVector, normal); float fSpecular = saturate(dot(vReflect, viewVector)); fSpecular = pow(fSpecular, specpower); return fSpecular; } /********************************* * LightingCombine - * inputs - * ambient component * diffuse component * specualr component * output - phong color color *********************************/ float3 LightingCombine(float3 vAmbient, float3 vDiffuse, float fSpecular) { float3 vCombined = vAmbient + vDiffuse + fSpecular.xxx; return vCombined; } //////////////////////////////////////////////// // Vertex Shader - Main Function /////////////////////////////////////////////// PS_INPUT VS(float4 Pos : POSITION, float4 Color : COLOR, float3 Normal : NORMAL) { PS_INPUT psInput; float4 newPosition; newPosition = Pos; newPosition.y = sin((newPosition.x * TimeStep) + (newPosition.z / 3.0f)) * 5.0f; // Pass through both the position and the color psInput.Pos = mul(newPosition , Projection ); psInput.Color = Color; psInput.ViewVector = normalize(camPos - psInput.Pos); return psInput; } /////////////////////////////////////////////// // Pixel Shader /////////////////////////////////////////////// //Anthony!!!!!!!!!!!   • Noftification between J2EE components.

    - by Pratik
    Hi There! I have a design problem . My application has multiple J2EE components ,In simple terms one acts as a service provider(Non UI) and others are consumers(UI webapp) . The consumer gets the configuration data from the service provider(this basically reads the data from DB) during the start up and stores it in the Cache. The cache gets refreshed after periodic time to reflect any changes done at the database. The Problem Apart from the cache refresh ,I also want to notify the consumers when someone changes the DB . that configuration has been changed please reload it. What notification mechanism's can I use to achieve this. Thanks! Pratik

  • How did the Lunar Lander example make the image backgrounds transparent?

    - by user279112
    Hello. I'm trying to make a GUI program with the Android SDK, using their Lunar Lander example as a significant self-teaching tool in the process. I've noticed their sprites' images' backgrounds, which were at least usually pure white, did not show up in their program. I want to ask how they did that, since their site doesn't explain simple things very well. I've managed to pull that off before on another GUI SDK, wherein all I had to do was to call a function and pass it a few floats to define a certain color, and until my code told it to do otherwise, that function would make sure that that particular color in my sprites' images was totally transparent. However I've wrestled with the Lunar Lander example and getting my own program to show some custom graphics for a week or two now, and I haven't noticed any such function call in the Lunar Lander example. I tried to look for it, but I did not find anything. I've tried to Google some tutorial or other reference material, but what I've found so far is just straying off into unrelated areas and totally dodging this EXTREMELY important lesson on the SDK's basics. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • book "Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX 2nd edition" and newer DirectX api

    - by numerical25
    I got the book "Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX 2nd edition" and I notice there are things in the book that are now considered deprecated. There is a whole Section on DirectPlay. And as much as I would like to avoid this section, I am afraid it might screw up the entire engine he is trying to build. So I was just curious to know even though DirectPlay is considered deprecated by XNA, and directX10. Is it possible to use it still in DirectX 9 ??

  • Querying for names

    - by Sai
    I have a table (say "Demographics") on SQL Server. In this table are the following columns "LastName", "FirstName", "MiddleName", "Prefix" , "Suffix". I have one textbox to search for them on a webpage. My question: Whats a good design strategy for queries where the user could be searching for various combinations of names including last names that have spaces e.g. "Smith James Jr." . Our customers store Jr. sometimes in suffix and sometimes just tack it to lastname. Sometimes Smith James Jr could be the entire last name.

The index buffer is fixed, so we only // need to create and set once. std::vector<DWORD> indices(mNumFaces*3); // 3 indices per face // Iterate over each quad and compute indices. int k = 0; for(DWORD i = 0; i < m-1; ++i) { for(DWORD j = 0; j < n-1; ++j) { indices[k] = i*n+j; indices[k+1] = i*n+j+1; indices[k+2] = (i+1)*n+j; indices[k+3] = (i+1)*n+j; indices[k+4] = i*n+j+1; indices[k+5] = (i+1)*n+j+1; k += 6; // next quad } } D3D10_BUFFER_DESC ibd; ibd.Usage = D3D10_USAGE_IMMUTABLE; ibd.ByteWidth = sizeof(DWORD) * mNumFaces*3; ibd.BindFlags = D3D10_BIND_INDEX_BUFFER; ibd.CPUAccessFlags = 0; ibd.MiscFlags = 0; D3D10_SUBRESOURCE_DATA iinitData; iinitData.pSysMem = &indices[0]; HR(md3dDevice->CreateBuffer(&ibd, &iinitData, &mIB)); } My question pretains to the cosf and sinf. I am formiluar with trigonometry and I understand sin, cosine, and tangent. but I am not formiluar with cosf and sinf and what they do. From looking at this example. they have alot to do with finding a y value.

  • Box2dx: Usage of World.QueryAABB?

    - by Rosarch
    I'm using Box2dx with C#/XNA. I'm trying to write a function that determines if a body could exist in a given point without colliding with anything: /// <summary> /// Can gameObject exist with start Point without colliding with anything? /// </summary> internal bool IsAvailableArea(GameObjectModel model, Vector2 point) { Vector2 originalPosition = model.Body.Position; model.Body.Position = point; // less risky would be to use a deep clone AABB collisionBox; model.Body.GetFixtureList().GetAABB(out collisionBox); // how is this supposed to work? physicsWorld.QueryAABB(x => true, ref collisionBox); model.Body.Position = originalPosition; return true; } Is there a better way to go about doing this? How is World.QueryAABB supposed to work? Here is an earlier attempt. It is broken; it always returns false. /// <summary> /// Can gameObject exist with start Point without colliding with anything? /// </summary> internal bool IsAvailableArea(GameObjectModel model, Vector2 point) { Vector2 originalPosition = model.Body.Position; model.Body.Position = point; // less risky would be to use a deep clone AABB collisionBox; model.Body.GetFixtureList().GetAABB(out collisionBox); ICollection<GameObjectController> gameObjects = worldQueryEngine.GameObjectsForPredicate(x => ! x.Model.Passable); foreach (GameObjectController controller in gameObjects) { AABB potentialCollidingBox; controller.Model.Body.GetFixtureList().GetAABB(out potentialCollidingBox); if (AABB.TestOverlap(ref collisionBox, ref potentialCollidingBox)) { model.Body.Position = originalPosition; return false; // there is something that will collide at this point } } model.Body.Position = originalPosition; return true; }

  • importing pywiiuse to test out

    - by Patrick Burton
    This is probably a simple problem. But I downloaded the pywiiuse library from here and I also downloaded the examples. However when I try to run one of the examples I end up with import issues. I'm not certain I have everything configured properly to run. One error I receive when trying to run example.py: Press 1&2 Traceback (most recent call last): File "example.py", line 73, in <module> wiimotes = wiiuse.init(nmotes) File "/home/thed0ctor/Descargas/wiiuse-0.12/wiiuse/__init__.py", line 309, in init dll = ctypes.cdll.LoadLibrary('libwiiuse.so') File "/usr/lib/python2.7/ctypes/__init__.py", line 431, in LoadLibrary return self._dlltype(name) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/ctypes/__init__.py", line 353, in __init__ self._handle = _dlopen(self._name, mode) OSError: libwiiuse.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I'm really just starting out with this library and don't really see any documentation on how to configure pywiiuse so any help is much appreciated.

  • How to render a 2d side-scroller

    - by Apoc
    I do not really understand the way I'm suppose to render a side-scroller? How do I know what to render when my character move? What kind of positionning should I use for the characters? I hope my question is clear

  • UDK SettingsScene variable

    - by Ricket
    I am in the process of porting a script from UT3 to UDK. The script is for class ZOUIFrontEnd_MainMenu extends UTUIFrontEnd_MainMenu. I'm getting the following compiler error: C:\UDK\UDK-2010-03\Development\Src\FixIt\Classes\ZOUIFrontEnd_MainMenu.uc(18) : Error, Bad or missing expression in Call to 'OpenSceneByName', parameter 1 The referenced line is as follows: OpenSceneByName(SettingsScene); Okay, so I figured the OpenSceneByName function changed in UDK. Tracing the path of inheritance all the way up to UDKUIScene.uc, I found the definition: function UIScene OpenSceneByName(string SceneToOpen, bool bSkipAnimation=false, optional delegate<OnSceneActivated> SceneDelegate=None) Assuming SettingsScene is a string, everything looks fine, right? So I figured I would find SettingsScene to make sure it's a string. Well doing a search for "SettingsScene" in all files turned up only one other line; UTGameReplicationInfo.uc line 334: UTPC.OpenUIScene(class'UTUIFrontEnd_MainMenu'.default.SettingsScene); But UTUIFrontEnd_MainMenu doesn't have a SettingsScene variable in it! Just to check, I changed my line of code to match: OpenSceneByName(class'UTUIFrontEnd_MainMenu'.default.SettingsScene); And indeed, I get the following compile error now: C:\UDK\UDK-2010-03\Development\Src\FixIt\Classes\ZOUIFrontEnd_MainMenu.uc(18) : Error, Unknown Property 'SettingsScene' in 'Class UTGame.UTUIFrontEnd_MainMenu' How does UTGameReplicationInfo.uc successfully compile? Where is the SettingsScene variable?
