    Everytime I test the email is send correctly. (I have tested in PC: IE6, IE7, IE8, Safari, Firefox, Chrome. MAC: Safari, Firefox, Chrome.)   • Why would it be a bad idea to have database connection open between client requests?

    1) Book I’m reading argues that connections shouldn’t be opened between client requests, since they are a finite resource. I realize that max pool size can quickly be reached and thus any further attempts to open a connection will be queued until connection becomes available and for that reason it would be imperative that we release connection as soon as possible. But assuming all request will open connection to the same DB, then I’m not sure how having a connection open between two client requests would be any less efficient than having each request first acquiring a connection from connection pool and later returning that object to connection pool? 2) Book also recommends that when database code is encapsulated in a dedicated data access class, then method M opening a database connection should also close that connection. a) I assume one reason why M should also close it, is because if method M opening the connection doesn’t also close it, but instead this connection object is used inside several methods, then it’s more likely that a programmer will forget to close it. b) Are there any other reasons why a method opening the connection should also close it? thanx

  • Whats wrong with this task queue setup?

    I've setup this task queue implementation on a site I host for a customer, it has a cron job which runs each morning at 2am "/admin/tasks/queue", this queues up emails to be sent out, "/admin/tasks/email", and uses cursors so as to do the queuing in small chunks. For some reason last night /admin/tasks/queue kept getting run by this code and so sent out my whole quota of emails :/.     If I want to inject a globally scoped array variable into a page's client-side javascript during a full page postback, I can use: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration("WorkCalendar", "\"" + date.ToShortDateString() + "\""); to declare and populate a client-side javascript array on the page. Nice and simple. But I want to do the same from a async postback from an UpdatePanel. The closest I can figure so far is to create a .js file that just contains the var declaration, update the file during the async postback, and then use a ScriptManagerProxy.Scripts.Add to add the .js file to the page's global scope. Is there anything simpler? r iz doin it wrong?

  • Will client JVM for a web service(https) throw an SSL Exception when the server is having a valid ce

    I have a web service deployed on tomcat hosted on a remote server. I have set it up such that it can be accessed only via HTTPS. For this, I generated a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and used it to get a temporary certificate from VeriSign. My web service client is on my local machine. If I try to access the service it will throw a javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:unable to find valid certification path to requested target If I install the certificate in to local Java's keystore, the issue will be resolved. My question is if I install a valid SSL certificate from a CA in to my tomcat server, will I get this client-side error even if I do not import the certificate to local key store?

    I am executing the following routine often in order to clear the local cache of many Outlook clients (Outlook 2003) in order to fix corrupted Forms stored on the users local drive. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab. Click Advanced Options. In the Advanced Options box, click Custom Forms. In the Custom Forms box, click Manage Forms. In the Forms Manager box, click Clear Cache. Is there a way I can program this to occur on the local client? I am looking for a solution that could be included in Outlooks VBScript in order to include it in yet another 'Organizational Forms Library' Forms client side validation code. Would this question better fit Server Fault Stack Exchange via an admin script/tool?

  • how do I get the IP of incoming ICMP due to UDP-send to dead client in Ruby?

    so.. I'm doing a small multiplayer game with blocking UDP and IO.select. To my problem.. (In the server) reading from a UDP socket (packet, sender = @socket.recvfrom(1000)) which have just sent a packet to a dead client results in a ICMP unreachable (and exception Errno::ECONNRESET in ruby). The problem is that I can't find any way whatsoever to extract the IP of that ICMP.. so I can clean out that dead client. Anyone know how to achieve this? thanks

    Simply stated: I'm trying to record audio in a browser, and get that data back up to the server. I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex). I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2- I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF.. So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint. If the answer is WCF: then how would one setup the client-side proxies to communicate with the service? If the answer is REST or HTTP Post, then how would one construct this HTTP request and pass along the data? I've been reading up on AS3, but am new to Flash dev... Thanks for any help!

  • jQuery getting these functions to work together

    I'm new to jQuery and have tried looking around for an answer on how to do this. I have 2 functions and I would like both to work together. The one function is submitHandler and its used to hide a form and at the same time add a class to a hidden element to unhide it - ie a thank you for submitting h1. The other function is to grab the input data and display it onsubmit in the form. So the problem is that I can get that one to work but then the other doesnt. Ie on form submit I can see the data input but not the h1 Thank you message.   • Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

    We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.
