• Bacula windows client could not connect to Bacula director

  I have a Bacula server on my Linux Debian squeeze host (Bacula version 5.0.2) and a Bacula client on Windows XP SP3. On my network each client can see each other, can share files and can ping. On my local server I could run bconsole and the server responds but when I run bconsole or bat on my windows client the server does not respond. But the program gets an unhandled exception error when the computer where its running does not have a wampserver. The only thing that is installed in it is the mysql connector net. How do I make it work. I just want the two programs to access the same mysql database. I already opened port 20 by configuring firewall. Both in TCP and UDP. What do I do? Do I have to tweak the codes?

• HP to Cisco spanning tree root flapping

  Per a recent question I recently configured both my HP (2x 2900) and Cisco (1x 3750) hardware to use MSTP for interoperability. I thought this was functional until I applied the change to the third device (HP switch 1 below) at which time the spanning tree root started flapping causing performance issues (5% packet loss) between my two HP switches. I'm not sure why. HP Switch 1 A4 connected to Cisco 1/0/1. HP Switch 2 B2 connected to Cisco 2/0/1. HP Switch 1 A2 connected to HP Switch 2 A1. I'd prefer the Cisco stack to act as the root. EDIT: There is one specific line - 'spanning-tree 1 path-cost 500000' in the HP switch 2 that I didn't add and was preexisting. I'm not sure if it could have the kind of impact that I'm describing. I'm more a security and monitoring guy then networking. EDIT 2: I'm starting to believe the problem lies in the fact that the value for my MST 0 instance on the Cisco is still at the default 32768. I worked up a diagram: This is based on every show command I could find for STP. I'll make this change after hours and see if it helps. • Transparent Proxy for IPv6 traffic under Linux

  When maintaining networks, it is often an expedient thing to do to run a transparent proxy. By transparent proxy I mean a proxy that 'hijacks' outgoing connections and runs them through a local service. Specifically I run a linux firewall with squid configured so that all tcp/ip connections fowarded on port 80 are proxied by squid. This is achived using the iptables 'nat' table, using IPv4. But iptables for IPv6 does not have a 'nat' table, so I cannot use the same implementation. What is a technique I can use to transparently proxy traffic for IPv6 connections? (this question has still not been answered adequately yet, a year on)

  I want to get the hardware address of my mac's ethernet card. In all samples I saw in include on . Which seems not to exist on my system. GCC throws an error saying he doesn't know the type IOEthernetAddress. Is assert.h necessary for my task? It would be great if someone coud give me a working sample.

  Hi, I have a problem with what solution to choose.. I have a server running having a Service running that can receive orders from a website. To this server several client (remote computers) are connected somehow. I would really like to use WCF for all comunication, but not sure it's possible. I dont wanna configure all client firewall settings in their routers, so the clients would have to connect to the server. But when an order is recieved on the server, it should be transferred to a specific client. One solution could be to have the Client connect using a duplex binding, but it will have to somehow keep the connection alive in order to be able to received data from server... Is this a good way to do this ?? Normally the connection times out and probably for a good reason... Anyone have insight to this problem. Thx alot for any advise :-) Best Regards Søren Müller

However, when users from other offices (separate network, with firewall open) they get a password request input box. Why are they getting the password dialogue? What is the recommended way identify users of the app? I want to avoid using password, but windows identities. Anyone attempting to access the application is inside a trusted network.   I'm making an outbound connection using a DNS name to a server other than the localhost, and I get this exception: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server --- System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:5555 The text implies that the TARGET machine refused the connection, but the IP address and port are from the localhost, which is kind of confusing. So is that IP address really the outgoing IP and port, even though the exception was caused by the target refusing the connection? Or is the exception from the local firewall blocking the outgoing connection?

• AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here? • How to get Tomcat Working on WIndows 7?

  I have installed Apache Tomcat 5.X/6.X on my Winodws 7 PC. After the installaiton the service starts fine when I check the Start Tomcat box and click finish. However If I try to start the tomcat configuration tool or monitor tool from the start menu I can not start any of the Tomcat's services. I get an error in a message box stating "Access Deined. Unable to open Tomcat 5.5". What seems to be the problem? and How can I solve it? Even restarting the PC won't help. I also have JDK and JRE installed. Turing the firewall doesn't work too. Please Help! Note that I'm running 32bit Version of Windows 7.

• eclipse xdebug session never completes

  I am trying to get xdebug working with eclipse (3.5) / php (on xampp windows 7). I have verified xdebug is enabled in php - I have the fancy output and my phpinfo shows all the xdebug stuff. I have remote debug on, and typed in the lan ip address on my eclipse machine. When I tell eclipse to debug, it launches the browser and passes the debug URL parameters. That looks OK. However, in eclipse debug perspective it shows 'launching myproject' 57% 'waiting for xdebug session'. It sits there forever. I have turned off windows firewall on both machines. I tried turning implicit flush on. Any ideas?

• MSNP-Sharp Example fails to login, gives SocketException

  I've just downloaded the MSNP-Sharp library with the aim of creating my own messaging client, however I am struggling to get the example to sign in. The code all compiles and runs, but when I provide my login details and select "Login" I almost immediately get the following SocketException: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 64.4.9.254:1863" I've stepped through the code and it's the messenger.Connect() function that is causing this, somewhat obviously. When I run the example I only change the login and password details. I am running Windows 7 x86 with the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. I have tried disabling my antivirus, even going as far as to temporarily uninstall it in case that was the error. I have also tried disabling Windows Firewall, with no luck.
