• Dynamically resizing CMFCPropertySheet with PropSheetLook_OneNoteTabs style

  Hi everybody, I'm trying to resize dynamically a CMFCPropertySheet to add a custom control at the bottom of each page. As all Property Pages are not of the same height, I have a mechanism to increase the size if necessary. For this, I have overridden the OnActivatePage method and by using SetWindowPos, I can resize the sheet, first, then the tab control, then the page and finally I can move the OK/Cancel/Help buttons. It works fine with PropSheetLook_OutlookBar and PropSheetLook_Tabs styles but not with PropSheetLook_OneNoteTabs style. The page (or the tab) is not correctly resized (the lighter grey color of the page does not fill the sheet. OneNote style Outlook style Any idea? A MFC Feature Pack bug?

• WCF Contract Name 'IMyService' could not be found?

  The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'.. --- System.InvalidOperationException: The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'. This is driving me crazy. I have a WCF web service that works on my dev machine, but when I copy it to a Virtual Machine that I am using for testing, I get the error that seems to indicate that I am not implementing the interface, but it does not make sense because the service does work on my windows xp IIS. the Virtual machine uses Windows Server 2003 IIS. Any ideas? One thing to note here is that I get this error on my VM even while just trying to access the service in a web browser as the client. Note: I am using principalPermissionMode="UseWindowsGroups", but that is not a problem on my local machine. I just add myself to the appropriate windows group. • Sharepoint (active directory account creation mode) - Using STSADM

  This question is regarding using STSADM command to create new site collection in Active Directory Account creation mode. My setup is like this- I have 2 virtual PCs in a Windows XP Pro SP3 host. Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and is also the Database Server. The other VPC is the domain member and it is the IIS web server, POP/SMTP server and it has WSS 3.0 installed. I created a new site using the GUI in Central Admin page. For creating a site collection under the newly created site, I needed to use the STSADM command line tool since it cannot be done from Central Admin page in Active Directory Account creation mode. • Intermittent Connection Issues to SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM

  The problem I am facing is a very complex one and inspite of trying to gather a root cause of the problem, I am standing at the same place after 2 months with just bits and pieces of information.Here is a scenario: There is a windows 2003 server which uses an system DSN ODBC connection. I looked into the driver properties and it is as follows: Name Version File SQL Server 2000.86.3959.00 SQLSRV32.DLL Now, this system DSN has been given configured with TCP\IP in Network Libraries and 'determine port dynamically' is checked. Now, lets come to the database destination. It is hosted on Windows 2008 having SQL 2008 R2 RTM version 64-bit. Now, I will give you a an overview about the events that happen and whatever troubleshooting I could perform: I get an email saying 'blah blah' failed and the only message their application gets is 'cannot connect to database' I go the SQL Server logs and find the following information: Login failed for user ''. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 10.0.0.xx Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 58.] A quick search shows that this error may come when an SQL Server is configured with windows authentication but its not true. We have mixed mode and connection issue is intermittent. This SQL Server is configured to run on a local system account but since we use only SQL Server accounts to connect to this, there should not be any Kerberos errors. When I run a profiler trace and see only 'existing connections', i see a lot of them coming from my client server displaying the sql user but NO hostname is shown. Textdata field shows TCP\IP information along with some arithabort and ansi-null settings. • Microsoft Entrourage: rendering hyperlinks?

  When we send emails from my project, we send in both text/plain and text/html formats. All major clients (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, thunderbird, outlook) correctly display the simple HTML that we are using. However, Entourage renders all tags EXCEPT hyperlinks. What is confusing is that emails from other domains render hyperlinks correctly in Entourage. We have tried comparing the source / headers of our emails with others emails that seem to "work" and don't see any obvious differences. I googled around this issue and the only thing I could find what that Entourage doesn't allow users to insert hyperlinks when composing a message. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

  I'm trying to get a third party audio library (STK) working inside Xcode. Along with the standard .h files, many of the implementation files include a file called SKINI.msg. SKINI.msg is in the same directory as all of the header files. The header files are getting included fine, but the compiler complains that it can't find SKINI.msg. What do I need to do to get Xcode to happily include SKINI.msg? • Problem sending mail with simple .net application. Server refusal error.

  I have a very simple .net application for testing SMTP on .net. But i am receiving this weird error. "System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. --- System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server --- System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it" SMTP server is remote and doesn't need any kind of authentication so i don't need credentials. But i can send mails from this computer with outlook using same smtp server and same smtp settings without any problem. Any ideas? It will be appreciated so much.   Hi, what is the best resource (book would be nice) to learn sh scripting (the "standard" shell on Unix systems) just like when i would learn a "normal" programming/scripting language ? There are lots of tutorials on certain aspects of shell scripting, they mostly deal with shells in general and unix commands and so on, but i would rather like to find a more general approach - meaning a quick syntactic overview and an outlook on how to do things you normally do when programming, like implementing small algorithms and so on. Doing actual scripting, not just a structured batch file. And rather 100-liners than 1-to-3-liners. Can you recommend a good standard book on the topic ?

• Is it possible to interop with Thunderbird using C#?

  Here's the latest hurdle in my ongoing quest to automate my job: All email in the company goes through 4 different email adresses, switching randomly back and forth (with a note attached in the global share: please set "keep email on server") All logic related to email is contained in a nice big Thunderbird profile, which gets copied back and forth to new machines; this includes sorting invoices into 5 different "folders", the list of VIP adresses to send notifications, and the VIP level of those customers I only need the contents of those folders (the attachments, anyway) The question: is there a way to ask Thunderbird for those attachments and lists from C#? Alternatively, can Outlook be set up to synchronize with Thunderbird? Where do I start reading? Ditching Thunderbird is not an option right now, I need to keep up with changes to the VIP list. P.S. I will set up a real email server right after Monkey saves me enough time to convince people about it.

• Asp.net MVC/Silverlight and Sharepoint 2010 integration

  Just a sidenote: I'm not sure whether I should post this to serverfault as well, because some MOSS admin may have some info for me as well? Additional note 1: I've found this document (Asp.net MVC 2 & Sharepoint integration) if anybody with sufficient expirience is willing to comment on its content whether this can be used in my described scenario or not. Additional note 2: I've discovered (later) that Silverlight is supported in Sharepoint 2010 so I'm considering it as well. So if anyone would comment on silverlight integration as well. A bit of explanation first (without Asp.net MVC/Silverlight) Is it possible to integrate the two? Is it possible to write an application that would share at least credential information with MOSS? I have to write a MOSS application that has to do with these technologies: MOSS 2010 Personal client certificates authentication (most probably on USB keys) Active Directory Federation Services Separate SQL DB that would serve application specific data (separate as not being part of MOSS DB) How should it work? Users should authenticate using personal certificates into MOSS 2010 There would be a certain part of MOSS that would be related to my custom application This application should only authorize certain users via AD FS - I guess these users should have a certain security claim attached to them This application should manage users (that have access to this app) with additional (app specific) security claims related to this application (as additional application level authorization rights for individual application parts) This application should use custom SQL 2008 DB heavily with its own data This application should have the possibility to integrate with external systems as well (Exchange for instance to inject calendar entries, ERP systems etc) This application should be able to export its data (from its DB) to files. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice if the app could add these files to MOSS and attach authorization info to them so only users with sufficient rights would be able to view/open these files. Why Asp.net MVC/Silverlight then? I'm very well versed in Asp.net MVC (also with the latest version) and I haven't done anything on Sharepoint since version 2003 (which doesn't do me no good or prepare me for the latest version in any way shape or form). This project will most probably be a death march project so I would rather write my application as a UI rich Asp.net MVC application and somehow integrate it into MOSS. But not only via a link, because I would like to at least share credentials, so users wouldn't need to re-login when accessing my app. Using Asp.net MVC I would at least have the possibility to finish on time or be less death marching. Is this at all possible? I haven't done any serious project using SIlverlight, but I will sooner or later have to. So I'm also considering a jump into it at this moment, because it still might make this application development easier than strict Sharepoint 2010. Questions Is it possible to integrate Asp.net MVC/Silverlight into MOSS as described above? If integration is not possible, would it be possible to create a completely MOSS based application that would work as described? Which parts of MOSS 2010 should I use to accomplish what I need?

• Spotlight Infinite Indexing issue (external data drive)

  This is an external drive, formerly a boot drive which is now in use only to access music files (sibelius, audio, midi, live, logic etc.) without transferring the data into a new boot system, partly because of the issue I am about to describe, but mostly because the majority of the data is mainly there for archival purposes. The user is a composer and prominent musician and needs to be able to rehash the data at will. I have tried several things - here is a list: - make complete filesystem clone with antonio diaz's ddrescue - run Disk Warrior on copy, repair whatever errors occurred - wipe out all ACLs on entire drive - set all permissions to the same value - wide open 777 - remove any system data (applications, system files, including hidden files to the best of my knowledge) by selecting only non-system/app data and using Carbon Copy Cloner to put only the data of interest onto a newly formatted drive - transfer data to newly formatted drive folder by folder, resetting the spotlight index in between adding each to observe for issues (interesting here is that no issues occurred except for in Documents folder - when I transferred only the Documents folder to a newly formatted drive on its own - no trouble. It appears almost as thought it may not be the content but the quantity or specific combination of data that results in problems) - use DataRescue to transfer the data to yet another newly formatted drive to expose any missed hidden files Between each of the above steps I stopped Spotlight (search for anything beginning with md in Activity Monitor - All Processes and quitting it), deleted the .Spotlight-V100 directory from the affected drive. Restart Splotlight indexing by adding drive to Spotlight privacy list and removing it. In each case the same issue occurs - Spotlight begins indexing normally (or so it seems), then the index estimated time increases, usually to 4 hours remaining. This is where it gets stuck and continues to predict 4 hours remaining but never finishes. Sometimes I can't eject the drive and have to quit the md.. processes from Activity Monitor to be able to eject the drive without Force Eject. Once I disconnect the drive after the 4 hours remaining situation - if I reattach it, Spotlight forever estimates remaining time and never gets going again. So there it is. It is apparently not a filesystem issue, not a permissions issue and not tied to any particular piece of hardware or protocol (used USB and FW drives). I have tried this on several machines (3 to be precise) and in 10.5.8 and 10.6.5. Simply disabling Spotlight on this volume is not an option because the owner has no clue where things are as the data on the volume dates back to music projects and compositions from 2003 and before. He needs to be able to query for results. Anyone got any ideas? ---update 2-6-11 Since I have not received any responses except the one below which appears to misunderstand my point, I am updating this post hoping to get more responses. I have used the terminal command sudo opensnoop -p PID where PID is the mdworker process ID to try and determine what Spotlight is doing and hopefully find the files it's having trouble with. Here's what happens: After indexing for a few hours, mdworker is gone. It no longer shows up in Activity Monitor under "All Processes" and the Terminal window with the opensnoop result stops moving. I then proceeded to execute the same command on mds to see what it was doing and here's what I get, repeatedly: 501 57 mds 21 / 501 57 mds 21 /Volumes/Sno Leppard 501 57 mds 21 /Volumes/Tiger 501 57 mds 21 /Volumes/Leppard 501 57 mds 21 /Volumes/Disk Warrior 501 57 mds 21 /Volumes/ONM Data These represent all the volumes currently mounted in the system. All except ONM Data, which is the one I am trying to index, are excluded from SPotlight indexing at the moment. The sequence above repeats over and over, with slight variation, sometimes skipping one of the volumes. Questions - what happened to mdworker? What is mds doing? I will let this run until tomorrow morning and throughout the day and monitor for any changes. Any input would be very much appreciated. Even if you're not sure what the ultimate answer is, please alert me to anything you think I may be missing. Hopefully at some point we will figure this out... Thanks, M __final edit__ I finally resolved the issue and here is how I did it. I used the terminal command "sudo opensnoop -p PID" where the PID is the process id of the processes I was monitoring. I was looking at all instances of mds and mdworker running in the system. After the third time through indexing the same data set (see info above), I contacted Apple and got to their highest level of support - they were flabbergasted as well. They advised me to install yet another default 10.6.6 system and try again. The same pattern repeated - mds and mdworker(s) would start indexing and eventually the spotlight icon would say 6 hours remaining and all mdworkers were gone, mds at 90% or so of CPU. But I did finally figure out that the first time mdworker stopped like that, the last file it touched was always in the same folder. I excluded that folder from spotlight search and the rest of the data set indexed within about 2 hours with no strange behavior or failures. I copied that folder to another machine and Spotlight barfed immediately. Exclude that folder and all is well again. I have no clue what is causing this behavior, still, but I did find a functional solution to the problem. Anyone with a similar problem - run opensnoop on all instances of mds and mdworker and wait patiently for wdworker to exit. Look at the last file it touched and exclude the enclosing folder from being indexed. I was able to repeat the issue and solution on 2 different installs and 2 different copies of the data set. Hope this helps. If we find an actual cause of the folder being such a problem (it is called MICHAEL BRECKER RECORD SOLOS and contains almost 1 GB of audio related files - performer, live, SD2 - things like that), I will edit again to let you all know.   Environment: Exchange 2007 sp3 (2003 sp2 mixed mode) Visual Studio 2008, .Net 3.5 Hello, I'm working with an Exchange powershell move-mailbox cmdlet and have noted when I do so from the Exchange Management shell (using the Verbose switch) there is a ton of real-time information provided. To provide a little context, I'm attempting to create a UI application that moves mailboxes similarly to the Exchange Management Console but desire to support an input file and specific server/database destinations for each entry (and threading). Here's roughly what I have at present but I'm not sure if there is an event I need to register for or what... And to be clear, I desire to get this information in real-time so I may update my UI to reflect what's occurring in the move sequence for the appropriate user (pretty much like the native functionality offered in the Management Console). And in case you are wondering, the reason why I'm not content with the Management Console functionality is, I have an algorithm which I'm using to balance users depending on storage limit, Blackberry use, journaling, exception mailbox size etc which demands user be mapped to specific locations... and I do not desire to create many/several move groups for each common destination or to hunt for lists of users individually through the management console UI. I can not seem to find any good documentation or examples of how to tie into reading the verbose messages that are provided within the console using C# (I see value in being able to read this kind of information in many different scenarios). I've explored the Invoke and InvokeAsync methods and the StateChanged & DataReady events but none of these seem to provide the information (verbose comments) that I'm after. I tried to use CreateFile API to check if the file can open by AP or not, but sometime, some of files are always locked by other AP, for example, if you are opening the Outlook, the PST will update, but my AP can’t access it, we have to start Shadow Copy to open it. • How to use two templates for ListViewItem using WPF

  Hi, I would like to have a ListView that would have have items similar to Microsoft Outlook inbox with items arranged by Conversations (see the attached photo). An item can either be a simple textblock containing the topic of the conversation (on the photo this are the blue lines) or it can contain email information specified by the ListView's header. It would be best if the items with conversation topics would be push buttons so that emails inside that conversation could be shown or hidden by pressing this button. Any ideas how can I achieve this? Do I specify two ListViewItem templates? If yes, how do I tell in the code which template to use for each item? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!! An example of this would be Outlook web interface, which can group emails by date, as well as allowing you to select individual emails to display. My problem: I can't see how this could be easily done with Gridview? I did find a product called Telerik that has a seemingly fancy Gridview, but I am hesitant to spend money on a single components that now also locks me into a third-party framework...

• Redmon's Run As User not loading user's enviroment variables

  I'm attempting to use Redmon http://www.winimage.com/misc/redmon/ to send print jobs to a custom C# application. Redmon "runs" (actually the Print Spooler) as SYSTEM but has an option to Run As User to allow your application to run under the user that printed the job. The problem is that it doesn't appear to load the user's environment. So calling functions like Path.GetTempPath() points to \windows\temp instead of the user's. Also when attempting to run Outlook 2007+ via MAPI calls (to add attachments) it reports form errors due to, I think, the temp folder location. Is there a way to "reload" a profile or atleast get your environment vars within the Impersonated application? The only ideas I've had so far is to rebuild the vars directly from the registry, but I want to avoid this since it's a hack around (avoiding implementation details and all that). Or making a stub program that Redmon calls which then properly Run As User with full profile the custom application. Any other items or tricks?

• Connection drops while transferring large files to one server on a network

  My company has two sites, each with their own LAN, using site to site VPN tunnel to connect the two sites. When transferring files (especially larger files) from site1 to site2 server1, the file transfer fails. I don't think this can be a VPN issue because transferring the same files to site2 server2 which is on the same network as server1 works fine. Pings to server1 and server2 at site2 from site1 are about the same, mostly 19/20ms with the odd one up to 50ms. As server1 is DB server with a high load I thought the NIC maybe overloaded, but a transfer from site2 server1 to site2 server2 works fine, and that uses the same NIC on server1 as transfers from site1 to site2 server1. • Perl TDS character sets

  I'm using the FreeTDS driver with DBD::Sybase, connecting to an MS SQL Server. When I query certain values of certain records, I get this error: DBD::Sybase::st fetchrow_arrayref failed: OpenClient message: LAYER = (0) ORIGIN = (0) SEVERITY = (9) NUMBER = (99) Server , database Message String: WARNING! Some character(s) could not be converted into client's character set. Unconverted bytes were changed to question marks ('?'). This seems to happen for records that contain special Windows character-set characters, such as curly quotes, copied and pasted from people's Outlook and Word messages. Unfortunately, I do not have any control of this database; sanitizing the input on the way in is obviously the way to go, but is not available to me. What FreeTDS settings do I need to change to be able to successfully query these records?

When file is in Unix format, I am converting it to Dos format in the initialization stage using System.Diagnostics.Process (.WaitForExit()). This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '00:59:59.8749992'.
