  • How to get the list of files in a directory in a shell script?

    Hi, I'm trying to get the contents of a directory using shell script. My script is: for entry in `ls $search_dir`; do echo $entry done where $search_dir is a relative path. However, $search_dir contains many files with whitespaces in their names. In that case, this script does not run as expected. I know I could use for entry in *, but that would only work for my current directory. I know I can change to that directory, use for entry in * then change back, but my particular situation prevents me from doing that. I have two relative paths $search_dir and $work_dir, and I have to work on both simultaneously, reading them creating/deleting files in them etc. So what do I do now? PS: I use bash.

    I'm writing a XML (de)serializer using Text.XML.Light and Scrap your Boilerplate (at http://github.com/finnsson/Text.XML.Generic) and so far I got working code for "normal" ADTs but I'm stuck at deserializing GADTs. I got the GADT data DataBox where DataBox :: (Show d, Eq d, Data d) => d -> DataBox and I'm trying to get this to compile instance Data DataBox where gfoldl k z (DataBox d) = z DataBox `k` d gunfold k z c = k (z DataBox) -- not OK toConstr (DataBox d) = toConstr d dataTypeOf (DataBox d) = dataTypeOf d but I can't figure out how to implement gunfold for DataBox. The error message is Text/XML/Generic.hs:274:23: Ambiguous type variable `b' in the constraints: `Eq b' arising from a use of `DataBox' at Text/XML/Generic.hs:274:23-29 `Show b' arising from a use of `DataBox' at Text/XML/Generic.hs:274:23-29 `Data b' arising from a use of `k' at Text/XML/Generic.hs:274:18-30 Probable fix: add a type signature that fixes these type variable(s) It's complaining about not being able to figure out the data type of b. I'm also trying to implement dataCast1 and dataCast2 but I think I can live without them (i.e. an incorrect implementation). I guess my questions are: Is it possible to combine GADTs with Scrap your Boilerplate? If so: how do you implement gunfold for a GADT?

    hi, I am using jquery ajax method on my aspx page,which will invoke the webmethod in the code behind.Currently the webmethod takes a couple of parameters like firstname,lastname,address etc which I am passing from jquery ajax method using data:JSON.stringify({fname:firstname,lname:lastname,city:city}) now my requirement has been changed such that,the number and type of parameters that are going to be passed is not fixed for ex.parameter combination can be something like fname,city or fname,city or city,lname or fname,lname,city or something else.So the webmethod should be such that it should accept any number parameters.I thought of using arrays to do so, as described here. But I do not understand how can I identify which and how many parameters have been passed to the webmethod to insert/update the data to the DB.Please could someone help me with this? thanks

    I have a large number of points (indexed by long) that are processed by multiple threads and I'm using a buffer to hold the output results in order. As the number of points processed is huge, what would be an efficient way to map the indexes of the points to the corresponding ordered position in the buffer ?     I'm making my first steps in Test Driven Development with Visual Studio. I have some questions regarding how to implement generic classes with VS 2010. First, let's say I want to implement my own version of an ArrayList. I start by creating the following test (I'm using in this case MSTest): [TestMethod] public void Add_10_Items_Remove_10_Items_Check_Size_Is_Zero() { var myArrayList = new MyArrayList<int>(); for (int i = 0; i < 10; ++i) { myArrayList.Add(i); } for (int i = 0; i < 10; ++i) { myArrayList.RemoveAt(0); } int expected = 0; int actual = myArrayList.Size; Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual); } I'm using VS 2010 ability to hit ctrl + . and have it implement classes/methods on the go. I have been getting some trouble when implementing generic classes. For example, when I define an .Add(10) method, VS doesn't know if I intend a generic method(as the class is generic) or an Add(int number) method. Is there any way to differentiate this? The same can happen with return types. Let's assume I'm implementing a MyStack stack and I want to test if after I push and element and pop it, the stack is still empty. We all know pop should return something, but usually, the code of this test shouldn't care for it. Visual Studio would then think that pop is a void method, which in fact is not what one would want. How to deal with this? For each method, should I start by making tests that are "very specific" such as is obvious the method should return something so I don't get this kind of ambiguity? Even if not using the result, should I have something like int popValue = myStack.Pop() ? How should I do tests to generic classes? Only test with one generic kind of type? I have been using ints, as they are easy to use, but should I also test with different kinds of objects? How do you usually approach this? I see there is a popular tool called TestDriven for .NET. With VS 2010 release, is it still useful, or a lot of its features are now part of VS 2010, rendering it kinda useless? Thanks

  • Is there a definitive list of uri patterns for use in android apps made by google?

    Apart from http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/g-app-intents.html (which is quite good but fairly limited in the number of apps/uri's it covers) I've been unable to find a decent reference source for looking up URI's to use when integrating with google apps. I'm currently working on triggering the "add new contact" UI, and have found that the tel: uri pattern seems to work, but what if I only have a name and an email? I wouldn't have expected I'd need to rely on sample code / trial and error, but I really can't see anywhere where the intent/URI interface is supposed to be documented in android apps. Does such a standard exist? Is there some quasi standard / user database that I can consult? On a platform with such a good inter-interoperability architecture it just seems like something so useful I can't believe it's not there

    I was asked by somebody in an interview for web front end job, to write a function that generates all permutation of a string, such as "abc" (or consider it ['a', 'b', 'c']). so the expected result from the function, when given ['a', 'b', 'c'], is abc acb bac bca cab cba Actually in my past 20 years of career, I have never needed to do something like that, especially when doing front end work for web programming. What are some practical use of this problem nowadays, in web programming, front end or back end, I wonder? As a side note, I kind of feel that expecting a result in 3 minutes might be "either he gets it or he doesn't", especially I was thinking of doing it by a procedural, non-recursive way at first. After the interview, I spent another 10 minutes and thought of how to do it using recursion, but expecting it to be solved within 3 minutes... may not be a good test of how qualified he is, especially for front end work.

  • How do I add the go language to gitg's list of viewable sources?

    Hoping a 'git' guru will help out here. I am just beginning to "git" for the first time and have (among other things :-) ) git and gitg installed from Ubuntu 10.4 / AMD64 distribution (ie. maybe not 'latest' version but not ancient). I am trying to look at the go code I've committed via gitg and in the "tree tab" it says :Cannot display file content as text. However, the "details tab" shows the diffs of the same file just fine. I know gitg's "tree tab" is working because I can use the tree view on *.c / *.html / *.txt etc just fine. Is there a way to tweak gitg into understanding that "*.go" is just text? A little more context: Installed gitg version is 0.0.5 - ie a version behind latest - 0.0.6 - source of which I am looking thru now. I do have a working /usr/share/gtksourceview-2.0/language-specs/ go.lang. It works just fine as highlighter in gedit. It appears that gitg may require displayable files to have a mime type of "text/plain", so I added that to go.lang No joy. gitg still fails on *.go I'm relatively sure the fix is simple, just don't know where to look.

    We can create a function p in the following code: var p = function() { }; if (typeof(console) != 'undefined' && console.log) { p = function() { console.log(arguments); }; } but the arguments are passed like an array to console.log, instead of passed one by one as in console.log(arguments[0], arguments[1], arguments[2], ... Is there a way to expand the arguments and pass to console.log like the way above? Note that if the original code were var p = function() { }; if (typeof(console) != 'undefined' && console.log) { p = console.log; } then it works well on Firefox and IE 8 but not on Chrome.

So, here's what I have so far ... module = txtModule.value presstype = txtPressType.value SQL_query = "SELECT * FROM tbl_spareparts WHERE '"& module &"' <> '""' AND '"& module &"' = '"& presstype &"' AND Manufacturer = '"& txtsrch.value &"' ORDER BY SAP_Part_No" Set rsData = conn.Execute(SQL_query) This brings up the following SQL statement: SELECT * FROM tbl_spareparts WHERE 'Banyan_Module' <> '"' AND 'Banyan_Module' = 'PB' AND Manufacturer = 'Tester' ORDER BY SAP_Part_No Is there any way I can use the module variable as a column name - obviously the ''s around the column name are causing an error. This is really bothering me. BTW, I'm writing this in VBScript inside a .HTA application page as it has to run locally on tech PCs. Thanks. R.
