  • design using a readonly class in c#

    Hi Small design question here. I'm trying to develop a calculation app in C#. I have a class, let's call it InputRecord, which holds 100s of fields (multi dimensional arrays) This InputRecordclass will be used in a number of CalculationEngines. Each CalculcationEngine can make changes to a number of fields in the InputRecord. These changes are steps needed for it's calculation. Now I don't want the local changes made to the InputRecord to be used in other CalculcationEngine's classes. The first solution that comes to mind is using a struct: these are value types. However I'd like to use inheritance: each CalculationEngine needs a few fields only relevant to that engine: it's has it's own InputRecord, based on BaseInputRecord. Can anyone point me to a design that will help me accomplish this?

  • Property in a Windows Forms form class only accessable after Load event

    I'm instantiating and calling Form B from Form A. FormB has some custom properties, to allow me to pass it things like sqlAdaptors and dataset instances. When i instantiate and show Form B from Form A as a dialog form with a Using statement, it all works fine, but i find the properties i pass are not available in Form B until after the form_load event has fired. I was under the impression the properties when passed to a instantiated class should be available from a constructor, but this is not the case. If it try to access the properties before the form load event i get a null reference exception. Is this correct behavior ?

  • nth-child doesn't respond to class

    Is it possible to get the nth-child pseudo-selector to work with a specific class? See this example: http://jsfiddle.net/fZGvH/ I want to have the second DIV.red turn red, but it doesn't apply the color as expected. Not only that, but when you specify this, it changes the 5th DIV to red: div.red:nth-child(6) When you specify this, it changes the 8th DIV to red: div.red:nth-child(9) It seems to be one DIV behind. There are only 8 DIV tags in the example so I don't know why nth-child(9) even works. Testing using Firefox 3.6, but in my actual production code the same problem occurs in Chrome. I'm not understanding something about how this is supposed to work, would appreciate clarification. Also, this will change the 6th DIV to red, but what I actually want is for it to change the second DIV.red to red: div.red:nth-of-type(6) And I don't understand why nth-child() and nth-of-type() respond differently, since there are only eight tags of the same type in the document.

    PostgreSQL stores statistics about tables in the system table called pg_class. The query planner accesses this table for every query. These statistics may only be updated using the analyze command. If the analyze command is not run often, the statistics in this table may not be accurate and the query planner may make poor decisions which can degrade system performance. Another strategy is for the query planner to generate these statistics for each query (including selects, inserts, updates, and deletes). This approach would allow the query planner to have the most up-to-date statistics possible. Why postgres always rely on pg_class instead?

    I am having trouble using EnumSet on the client side. I get this runtime error message: java.util.EnumSet.EnumSetImpl is not default instantiable (it must have a zero-argument constructor or no constructors at all) and has no custom serializer. Is this is a known issue?   • Sending string from class to Form1

    Although there are some similar questions I’m having difficulties finding an answer on how to receive data in my form from a class. I have been trying to read about instantiation and its actually one of the few things that does make sense to me :) but if I were to instantiate my form, would I not have two form objects? To simplify things, lets say I have a some data in Class1 and I would like to pass a string into a label on Form1. Is it legal to instantiate another form1? When trying to do so it looks like I can then access label1.Text but the label isn’t updating. The only thing I can think of is that the form needs to be redrawn or there is some threading issue that I’m unaware of. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    How can I use grails domain classes (which is in groovy) in service layer which is in Java/Spring. When using the grails MVC, everything is fine as I can use controller to access domain objects and call CRUD and other dynamic methods on them. But, what I am wondering is is there a clean way to do it from Java - say the service layer. For example, I may want to develop a reporting framework where I need to use domain objects to access the DB. I Hope the question is clear. This should be a standard problem that everybody must have faced in a reasonably sized project. I am just wondering how it is solved..maybe I am missing something here. thanks.

I'm using a RootViewController to setup one of my views as lets say AnotherViewController So in my AnotherViewController im going to add in on the .h file @class RootViewController And in the .m file im going to import the View #import "RootViewController.h" I have a function called: -(void)toggleView { //do something } And then in my AnotherViewController I have a button assigned out as: -(void)buttonAction { //} In the buttonAction I would like to be able to call the function toggleView in my RootViewController. Can someone clarify on how I do this. I've tried adding this is my buttonAction: RootViewController * returnRootObject = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; [returnRootObject toggleView]; But I dont think that's right.   • Should functions of a C library always expect a string's length?

    I'm currently working on a library written in C. Many functions of this library expect a string as char* or const char* in their arguments. I started out with those functions always expecting the string's length as a size_t so that null-termination wasn't required. However, when writing tests, this resulted in frequent use of strlen(), like so: const char* string = "Ugh, strlen is tedious"; libFunction(string, strlen(string)); Trusting the user to pass properly terminated strings would lead to less safe, but more concise and (in my opinion) readable code: libFunction("I hope there's a null-terminator there!"); So, what's the sensible practice here? Make the API more complicated to use, but force the user to think of their input, or document the requirement for a null-terminated string and trust the caller?

    my applicationen consists of App.cs/App.xaml and some other files. Everything is compiled to an exe file. However, I want a 2. application, which should reference the first one. In this Application is a class derived from App. But when I call the the Run() function I get an very stragne error in a xaml code of the first application, saying that some image files could not be loaded. I had a similar architecture when i was using Windows Forms and it worked fine.

  • Fastest XML parser for small, simple documents in Java

    I have to objectify very simple and small XML documents (less than 1k, and it's almost SGML: no namespaces, plain UTF-8, you name it...), read from a stream, in Java. I am using JAXP to process the data from my stream into a Document object. I have tried Xerces, it's way too big and slow... I am using Dom4j, but I am still spending way too much time in org.dom4j.io.SAXReader. Does anybody out there have any suggestion on a faster, more efficient implementation, keeping in mind I have very tough CPU and memory constraints? [Edit 1] Keep in mind that my documents are very small, so the overhead of staring the parser can be important. For instance I am spending as much time in org.xml.sax.helpers.XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader as in org.dom4j.io.SAXReader.read [Edit 2] The result has to be in Dom format, as I pass the document to decision tools that do arbitrary processing on it, like switching code based on the value of arbitrary XPaths, but also extracting lists of values packed as children of a predefined node. [Edit 3] In any case I eventually need to load/parse the complete document, since all the information it contains is going to be used at some point.     Is there any preexisting class that helps support add/remove EventListener operations? (kind of like PropertyChangeSupport) I'm trying to partition my code into a model and view in Java. I have some data that arrives erratically, and would like the model to support some kind of EventListener so that a view can subscribe to changes in the model. The data is numerous + complicated enough that I don't want to have to do the whole fine-grained Javabeans property change support; rather I would just like to allow notification that the model has changed in a coarse way. how can I best do this?

  • Parallel.Foreach loop creating multiple db connections throws connection errors?

    Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication I wanted to get my code running in parallel, so I changed my foreach loop to a parallel foreach loop. It seemed simple enough. Each loop connects to the database, looks up some stuff, performs some logic, adds some stuff, closes the connection. But I get the above error? I'm using my local sql server and entity framework (each loop uses it's own context). Is there some problem with connecting multiple times using the same local login or something? How did I get around this? I have (before trying to covert to a parallel.foreach loop) split my list of objects that I am foreach looping through into four groups (separate csv files) and run four concurrent instances of my program (which ran faster overall than just one, thus the idea for parallel). So it seems connecting to the db shouldn't be a problem? Any ideas?
