  • As a programmer, what are some telltale signs that you're about to get fired or laid off?

    - by plaureano
If you have ever been fired from a job, did you notice anything different about the behavior of your peers or upper management just before your termination? What are some common signs to look for among your coworkers and project manager(s) that would indicate your position is severely at risk? EDIT: My instincts were right, and I opted to resign rather than face termination. I guess when you have that "gut feeling" that something is about to happen, it's a strong sign that you should be heading for the exit...

  • ctrl-c does not copy text on a webpage

    - by aepheus
I've come across this several times, ctrl-c randomly does not copy. I think it's caused by javascript or maybe some odd html syntax. I never spent the time to track down what caused it. Anyone know the typical/common causes of ctrl-c not working (to copy) on a website? Speaking from a developers standpoint. What do we developers end up doing to break ctrl-c? Just to clarify, I'm not interested in preventing copying. I'm trying to do the opposite, occasionally I find I've done something that is preventing ctrl-c from copying text, and that is not very user friendly on a text heavy site.

  • is depth buffers mandatory

    - by numerical25
I am just trying to better understand the directX pipeline. Just curious if depth buffers are mandatory in order to get things work. Or is it just a buffer you need if you want objects to appear behind one another.

  • Does Anyone Use This Site To Find Jobs? [closed]

    - by Derek
I hope this isn't too far off-topic that it upsets people, but here goes: My company (me, in particular) are looking to hire entry-level and medium-experienced software engineers via non-traditional (career fairs, etc) avenues due to ineffective HR efforts in the past. So, I am looking to perhaps purchase resume searching from stackoverflow and/or job postings. Before I do, I was hoping a few people could chime in on whether they think this would be worthwhile. Do you post your resume on here? Do you actively search the job listings? Thanks!

  • What does $this generally mean in PHP?

    - by xczzhh
I am really new to PHP, so I am kind of confused seeing these different operators all day. Here is some code I came across when watching a video tutorail, I'd appreciate it if some could explain a little bit: function index() { $config = Array( 'protocol' => 'smtp', 'smtp_host' => 'ssl://smtp.googlemail.com', 'smtp_port' => 465, 'smtp_user' => '[email protected]', 'smtp_pass' =>'password', ); $this->load->library('email', $config); $this->email->set_newline("\r\n"); $this->email->from('[email protected]', 'Jerry'); $this->email->to('[email protected]'); $this->email->subject('this is an email test'); $this->email->message('this is test message!'); if($this->email->send()) { echo 'Your email was sent'; } else { show_error($this->email->print_debugger()); } } ...

    - by jamesatha
So, I am trying to use JSP to create a set of webpages. I want to link two pages so that if the user clicks a button in one page, it will trigger an event in the other page. Is there an efficient way to do this? I was taking a look at creating cookies and/or sessions. Any suggestions on these two methods? Thanks

  • ASP menu is not showing

    - by LauzPT
    My web application menu isn't showing in any browser I use to test. I looked around and checked out if it wasn't the z-index bug mentioned here, that seems to have caused some trouble to many people. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong: <asp:Menu ID="Menu1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SiteMapDataSource1" Orientation="Horizontal" /> </asp:Menu> I've got this as my SiteMap: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0" > <siteMapNode title="Pagina"> <siteMapNode url="Default.aspx" title="Home" description="Página Inicial" /> <siteMapNode url="Generos.aspx" title="Géneros" description="Géneros" /> <siteMapNode url="Artistas.aspx" title="Artistas" description="Artistas" /> <siteMapNode url="Musicas.aspx" title="Musicas" description="Músicas" /> <siteMapNode title="Admin" roles="Administrador"> <siteMapNode url="Admin/Musicas.aspx" title="Musicas"/> </siteMapNode> </siteMapNode> </siteMap> Any suggestions about what might be wrong? TIA

  • What are the downside of not having an index.html file to some directories

    - by Pennf0lio
Hi, I'm curious what are some effects/downside of not putting an index.html file to your directories (e.g images). I know when an index file is not present to a directory, files inside that directory are no longer private and will be visible to the browsers when point (eg yoursite.com/images/). Aside from that what are some big effects to consider? and how to properly secure them. thanks!

  • Javascript: How to filter object array based on attributes?

    - by JGreig
I have the following JavaScript JSON array of real estate home objects: var json = { 'homes' : [ { "home_id":"1", "price":"925", "sqft":"1100", "num_of_beds":"2", "num_of_baths":"2.0", }, { "home_id":"2", "price":"1425", "sqft":"1900", "num_of_beds":"4", "num_of_baths":"2.5", }, // ... (more homes) ... ]} var xmlhttp = eval('(' + json + ')'); homes = xmlhttp.homes; What I would like to do is be able to perform a filter on the object to return a subset of "home" objects. For example, I want to be able to filter based on: price, sqft, num_of_beds, and num_of_baths. Question: How can I perform something in javascript like the pseudo-code below: var newArray = homes.filter( price <= 1000 & sqft >= 500 & num_of_beds >=2 & num_of_baths >= 2.5); Note, the syntax does not have to be exactly like above. This is just an example.

  • Rendering field data as a link in Ruby on Rails...

    - by bgadoci
Ok, I think this is probably an easy question but for the life of my I can't figure it out. I have created a table called ugtags and in that table I have two columns (beyond the basics), 'name' and 'link'. I am trying to allow a user to add a link to a page. Ideally they would enter the link title (name) and the url (link) and in the view it would display the title as a link to the url that was entered in the link column. I there a way to do it by simply affecting the <%= link_to h(ugtag.name) %> code?

    - by rity
I have an app that is being used by a few users (< 12 users). There are less than 2000 records so I decided to use an XML file and store the file under \company\product\p.xml. Is this okay or am I breaking some design guidelines without realizing it? EnvironmentL .net/c#/winforms

  • Is there an API available that, given text, returns a list of companies with their ticker symbols?

    - by smo7002
Ideally I would love to extract exactly what Google Finance's Get Quote functionality does with the predictive search. That's really all that I'm looking for. I don't want to store the data, I just want to be able to search company names/ticker symbols so that I can get the correct symbol. I already have specialized quote functionality in place. Also, the search functionality needs to be intuitive. I've looked through Google Finance API but haven't seen exactly what it is that I'm looking for. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

  • Android game goes blank after pressing home and restarting

    - by sirconnorstack
    I am making an Android game with an Activity called Game, a SurfaceView called GameView and a Thread called GameThread. The Game's onCreate(), I make a new GameView, which makes a new GameThread, where all the game logic and canvas drawing is carried out. However, I'm having some lifecycle difficulties. When I press back and restart it, it works fine, but when I press home and restart it, all I see is a blank screen. Here are the GameView's onSurfaceCreated() and onSurfaceDestroyed(): @Override public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { mThread.mRunning = true; mThread.mWidth = getWidth(); if(mThread.mWidth > 550) mThread.mWidth = 550; mThread.mHeight = getHeight(); try { mThread.start(); } catch(IllegalThreadStateException e) { } } @Override public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { // Wait for the secondary thread to end before finishing boolean retry = true; mThread.mRunning = false; while (retry) { try { mThread.join(); retry = false; } catch (InterruptedException e) { } } }

  • JQuery: How to perform a "push" slide, not a slide up?

    - by Tedy
I using the following JQuery: $("#pushSlideDiv").slideDown("fast"); However, this creates a "slide" effect. Meaning, if I do a slidedown, this makes the underlining DIV reveal it's self from a top-to-bottom reveal. I want a "push" effect, where the slidedown instead reveals as though the div is being pushed onto the page ... where you first see the bottom of the div. How can I do this with JQuery? UPDATE: This isn't a great example, but it does show a push effect that I'm trying to accomplish vs a "slide" effect.
