• Flash CS 4 / AS 2 + Dynamic Text + Html + Embedded fonts...

  I have this scenario: 1) I have a dynamic text that receives its data from a XML. 2) The texts showed get theirs style from a CSS file. 3) My dynamic text has a html 'span' tag and it's formatted according to the CSS class that it's passed via the XML file. Ok... so far so good. It's something like: _root.txt.txtDica = "<span class='"+ node.childNodes[_global.auxCont].attributes.myStyle +"'>" + node.childNodes[_global.auxCont].attributes.myText+ "</span>"; The problem is that the swf has a poor quality text. So, I've been looking around, found some things about embedded fonts, Flash TextField() and etc. But, nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how can I generate this html tag in a dynamic text with a good quality? It's worth to say that I'm using regular fonts, such as Verdana and Arial. Thanks a lot!

• Apache/2.2.20 (Ubuntu 11.10) gzip compression won't work on php pages, content is chunked

  I'm running into a problem with a new production server whereto I'm transferring projects. The HTML output of the PHP applications isn't compressed by the Apache mod_deflate module. Other resources, as stylesheet and javascript files, even html pages, which are served with the same Content-type (text/html) as the PHP output, are compressed! On that machine the compression works just fine on the PHP output. I've checked and compared Apache and PHP config files, all the same as far as I can tell. I've tried several manners of outputting the content of the PHP, using output buffering or just plain echoing the content. Same thing, no compression.   Consider the function, add a b = a + b This works: *Main> add 1 2 3 However, if I add a type signature specifying that I want to add things of the same type: add :: a -> a -> a add a b = a + b I get an error: test.hs:3:10: Could not deduce (Num a) from the context () arising from a use of `+' at test.hs:3:10-14 Possible fix: add (Num a) to the context of the type signature for `add' In the expression: a + b In the definition of `add': add a b = a + b So GHC clearly can deduce that I need the Num type constraint, since it just told me: add :: Num a => a -> a -> a add a b = a + b Works. Why does GHC require me to add the type constraint? If I'm doing generic programming, why can't it just work for anything that knows how to use the + operator? In C++ template programming, you can do this easily: #include <string> #include <cstdio> using namespace std; template<typename T> T add(T a, T b) { return a + b; } int main() { printf("%d, %f, %s\n", add(1, 2), add(1.0, 3.4), add(string("foo"), string("bar")).c_str()); return 0; } The compiler figures out the types of the arguments to add and generates a version of the function for that type. It seems to me like it would be resolved if GHC simply filled in the type constraint for me, since it obviously decided it was needed. Still, why the type constraint at all? Why not just compile successfully as long as the function is only used in a valid context where the arguments are in Num? Thank you.

  I have recently deployed a Remote Desktop Host server that functions as a remote Microsoft Office 2010 work space for users. In part of the locking down of this server I have installed all programs on the D: drive and, through the use of Group Policy, hidden all the drives on the server from standard users. In addition to hiding these drives I am not allowing users to save anything locally (on the server) or open Libraries. However one of the functions of the server is to provide the Outlook client. Often users will have the .PST file stored on a network location and want to open this in Outlook. Can I change the default action or location that File Open Open Outlook Data File looks or tries to pull the file from? The default location seems to be under Users / Libraries. When click 'Open' you get a warning: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Clicking OK drops the user into a small menu that shows attached network drives under Computer. Can I instead have the 'Open' click drop the users in a defined network drive or just open computer and allow them to select a share? I don't want them to see the error message. A solution that looks to have been used for Office 2000/03 is: Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\Outlook Value name: ForceOSTPath Value type: REG_EXPAND_SZ Value: path to your storage folder I am not sure if there is a better way to do this now OR if this even works with Office 2010.

• Extending Oracle CEP with Predictive Analytics

  Introduction: OCEP is often used as a business rules engine to execute a set of business logic rules via CQL statements, and take decisions based on the outcome of those rules. There are times where configuring rules manually is sufficient because an application needs to deal with only a small and well-defined set of static rules. However, in many situations customers don't want to pre-define such rules for two reasons. First, they are dealing with events with lots of columns and manually crafting such rules for each column or a set of columns and combinations thereof is almost impossible. Second, they are content with probabilistic outcomes and do not care about 100% precision. The former is the case when a user is dealing with data with high dimensionality, the latter when an application can live with "false" positives as they can be discarded after further inspection, say by a Human Task component in a Business Process Management software. The primary goal of this blog post is to show how this can be achieved by combining OCEP with Oracle Data Mining® and leveraging the latter's rich set of algorithms and functionality to do predictive analytics in real time on streaming events. The secondary goal of this post is also to show how OCEP can be extended to invoke any arbitrary external computation in an RDBMS from within CEP. The extensible facility is known as the JDBC cartridge. The rest of the post describes the steps required to achieve this: We use the dataset available at http://blogs.oracle.com/datamining/2010/01/fraud_and_anomaly_detection_made_simple.html to showcase the capabilities. We use it to show how transaction anomalies or fraud can be detected. Building the model: Follow the self-explanatory steps described at the above URL to build the model.  It is very simple - it uses built-in Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL packages to cleanse, normalize and build the model out of the dataset.  You can also use graphical Oracle Data Miner®  to build the models. To summarize, it involves: Specifying which algorithms to use. In this case we use Support Vector Machines as we're trying to find anomalies in highly dimensional dataset.Build model on the data in the table for the algorithms specified. For this example, the table was populated in the scott/tiger schema with appropriate privileges. (Caveat: they still need to draw values from a similar universe or domain, otherwise it constitutes incorrect usage of the model).   My question may seem silly, but, I've read in many Android books that the better part of Android is Android is open, and iOS is closed. But, from a programmer viewpoint, who cares about this point? Programmers just care about the platform: is it easy to program in, easy to have help in the network, etc. They don't care about whether the platform is open or closed. One book had additional information, but I don't understand it much. Since iOS is not open, I’d be able to share my work with others only if Apple allowed it. So, if you write an app, and need to share, you must have Apple's permission, but not Android's? Please help me understand this point. I'm preparing for a presentation on Android. And I don't know if I should put this point into my presentation.

• What type of encoding can I use to make a string shorter?

  I am interested in encoding a string I have and I am curious if there is a type of encoding that can be used that will only include alpha and numeric characters and would preferably shorten the number of characters needed to represent the string. So far I have looked at using Base64 encoding to do this but it appears to make my string longer and sometimes includes == which I would like to avoid. Example: test name|120101 becomes dGVzdCBuYW1lfDEyMDEwMQ== which goes from 16 to 24 characters and includes non-alphanumeric. Does anyone know of a different type of encoding that I could use that will achieve my requirements? Bonus points if it's either built into the .NET framework or there exists a third party library that will do the encoding.

• Unity works on my PC but not on the Server. What did I miss?

  I have a web service using Microsoft Unity to hook the pieces together.  It all works fine on my PC but when I put it on the web server, I receive this error message: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail]: The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Method 'GetClaimsForUser' in type 'WebService.Implementation.ClaimsRetriever' from assembly 'WebService.Implementation, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=62cac0f1a908971a' does not have an implementation. The Conference room was filled with inquisitive minds. What we had in store for them was a detailed presentation about Oracle which was delivered by Zuko - Cluster Leader: Tech GB South Africa. The student’s many questions were all answered especially when we started addressing the opportunities we have and detailed information on our Graduate Programme. Our employees then came to talk about their experience. This allowed all the students to have an integrated learning experience. By inviting the students to walk around our Oracle Offices allowed them to see, talk, experience a bit of the culture and ask more questions. Here is some of the feedback from the attendees: Maxwell Moloi: “The open day truly served its purpose and exceeded expectations in the sense that I got to find out more about Oracle and all the different opportunities it has to offer. The fact that Oracle supplies a full solution to a customer and not just part of it and how the company manages to setup professional development for their employees is what entices me to want to join the rapidly growing team of Oracle.” Nqobile Mabaso: “I found the open day to be quite informative and enlightening because coming from a marketing background I could apply the knowledge I got from varsity to the Company I was able to point out what they do as part of their corporate social responsibility (Oracle recently partnered with the department of education to build a school), how Oracle emphasizes on relationship building because they know they sell to people and not companies and how they offer the full stack of solutions which gives them a competitive advantage over their competitors.” Nondumiso Mvelase: “The Open Day was a wonderful experience for me especially because I have never been part of an Open Day before, so it was absolutely amazing for me. It gave me a good idea of how it is to be part of Oracle. We were served with lovely breakfast and lunch which I enjoyed. I wish the Open Day went on for a whole week. Seeing and hearing from 2013 Graduates, telling us about their experience within Oracle was very inspiring to me. They were encouraging us to work hard if we ever got the opportunity they had. After hearing this from them I will definitely not take it for granted.” Itumeleng Moraka: “Before I walked into the Oracle offices all that was in my mind was databases and cloud storage. • How seriously would an employer take a job application from an applicant studying at the Open University [closed]

  I ask the question because I am considering applying to a traditional bricks and mortar university to do mathematics, computer science or software engineering. However I am in my late twenties and have a young family so I am seriously considering going down the Open University route and working in the software development industry at the same time. If I do attend Open University, I will definitely study Mathematics. I fell in love with PHP and the common web technologies a few years back and it has slowly progressed into learning C++, Java and also Python. If I spent the next year increasing my knowledge of those languages whilst studying at the Open University, would an employee consider a self taught programmer who is 20% of the way through a Bsc in Mathematics?

When starting to build my site (HTML+PHP+JS), I copied a lot of the meta tags over from elsewhere, and I have, amongst others, the following: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=iso-8859-1" /> Now, I've seen that tag is being used a lot with the value "text/html". I've been searching the web but could not find a comprehensive explanation regarding what the difference between both is. The "text/html" intuitively sounds more straightforward to me. Should I change my tag to that, or might the "application/xhtml+xml" be an equivalent solution ? Alternatively, can anyone point me to a resource where the different values for these tags are listed and explained in a clear manner? Thanks in advance

• how to make startup application to open the folder or inode/directory after booting?

  I think it will be awesome if after login the folder that locate not at the same localhost / can open it self like and application as skype and others. do we can make it because if this one works for it , it will help others people too that save musics and other file under the /home folder or the like me , i do need to click other partitions to listen songs and movie and other what i want is just single click when i do login. the partitions / folder / inode was open so i can simply click the Play button at the rhythmbox and click next just to watch the next edition of serial movies ^^ here the photos, i need this partition / hard disk to open while star up "almacén hard disk. thx out of context why do the Fn + F6 wont lock the mouse pad under the laptop i do using classics gnome ubuntu 1204.
