• Latency issues over internet

  I have a Media Temple server running http://www.popsapp.com which I am having latency issues with. If I run ab -n 100 -c 10 http://www.popsapp.com/ from my local machine I get very bad stats e.g.: Connection Times (ms) min mean[+/-sd] median max Connect: 179 3375 2185.4 2837 12525 Processing: 0 505 693.3 229 4564 Waiting: 0 50 115.4 0 415 Total: 964 3880 2094.5 3159 12608 Whereas if I run it from a rackspace server I have I get this: Connection Times (ms) min mean[+/-sd] median max Connect: 75 76 3.3 75 84 Processing: 235 339 81.4 315 579 Waiting: 159 249 61.7 234 411 Total: 311 415 82.0 390 663 To me this looks like intermediate network issues, but I wouldn't have thought it could be this bad! • Cannot access firewalled jboss server from Internet Explorer

  I've produced a website for a client One Single Menu using JBoss and hosted it on Rackspace Cloud Servers running Ubuntu's Maverick Meerkat. Following advice, I esablished some iptables rule to protect jboss: iptables -I INPUT 1 -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8080 iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 8080 -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -o lo -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8080 iptables -A INPUT -j DROP Now, several versions of IE on several computers on at least two different ISPs cannot access the onesinglemenu.com. Curl from within the datacenter, Firefox, and Safari on the same ISPs can all access the server fine. I even tried IE and Firefox on the same computer and IE failed but Firefox worked. The error behaviour is that IE hangs on connecting without reporting an error, even after a minute or so. No page is displayed at all. I find it quite odd that I'm having a browser specific connection issue, but it appears to be the case. Help!

  http://mts.varicentondemand.com URL is correct. It worked the other day. URL to pointing at db server and db was edited this morning in 'jdbc.properties' file and is correct. Nothing wrong with the pointers in that sense. To pick up the changes 'Apache Tomcat 6 was restarted. Everything should work, but the page is not coming up. Tried URL form local as well as the web/app server itself. Where to check for clues?

• How to install IE9 when KB2120976 is not applicable to my Windows 7 x86 Ultimate edition?

  I'm trying to install IE9, visit http://beautyoftheweb.com, download it and then says it's downloading prereqs. After a minute, the installer says there's a problem and directs me to Prerequisites for installing Internet Explorer 9 Beta I click on the x86 installers one by one... most say "already installed".. But http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2120976/ says "The update is not applicable to your computer". Lame. So I try the IE9 install and the go through the whole process again with the same result. • Internet connectivity issues with one router but work ok with other router

  I have one Tplink ADSL ROUTER and when i enter username and password on setup page then everything works fine. Now i have one more router Netgear router then when i enter same username and password then interworks ok for some 50% websites but for other 50% websites the page is not loaded and it hangs there. In the sats bar it says website found , waiting for reply and it hnags there and no site is displayed. I wonder which setting is different on these two routers. The Tplink router i have bought is from local shop but netgear router is from different country. Can that make some difference

  We are currently talking to vendors of wireless solutions for a wireless deployment in a university campus with some 5000 students. One vendor is offering us a Cisco solution with a WLC 5508 controller and 69 2x2 MIMO Dual-band/Dual radio APs (Aironet AP 1042 model) The other vendor is offering us an Aruba solution with a 3600 controller and 96 2x2 MIMO dual band BUT single radio APs (Aruba AP93) Both vendors are charging 82.000 US$ (support, 3y service contracts, switches and additional required options all included of course) The Aruba vendor is trying to convince me that 96 single radio APs will give us more connection/users/capacity then the 69 dual radio APs. I have my doubts about that and since it is my core competence-domain I wanted to ask here the opinion of people that have a more profound knowledge and experience in this area. When you talk to vendors it's often hard to get objective information. So try to answer only if you are sure and please mention it if you are affiliated with one of the vendors.   I'm trying to build an intranet site using joomla. The webserver is using HTTP Kerberos authentication with mod_kerb_auth. Everything works fine, the users get authenticated and so on. But if i try to login to the administrator panel i can't because IE does not accept the needed cookies. No such problem with firefox. The intranet site is called "intranet_new" and is hosted by webintranet04, under the directory /var/www/vhosts/joomla/intranet_new/. • Internet Explorer 9 auto "feeling lucky" for gmail bing search

  When Im at school and using school computers, i have to use has IE9. When I want to access my gmail, I type in "gmail" in the URL bar, and thus IE9 does a bing search. The page half loads (As in, loads just about every thing but the search results) and then opens my gmail, kinda like google's "i'm feeling lucky". My question is this: Why? IE9 doesn't have the URL of gmail, as i can watch the bing search load, and then the url changes to gmail, and it only happens for Gmail, having tired with searching Google and Facebook in the same method. The computer is running Windows 7 with Windows Aero disabled, and limited account privileges. While its a cool thing, I would like to known what causes it to happen. Thanks

• Odd internet packet routing

  I want to know is there anyway to explicitly control the packet routing. I try to connect my computer in HK from San Francisco. It is extremely slow and I use tracert to see what is going on. It seems the packet get routed from HK to Europe and then to New York and then to San Francisco. In US, I am using Astound Cable. Is there any suggestion I can force the packet to not go around the world before it reach my computer? Or it is all ISP dependent?

  I have a user on Windows XP SP3 running Java 6 Standard Edition Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). The issue is that when Java applets load the Java splash screen is very shaky (I will have to take a screenshot if you don't know what I am talking about) and than the Java applet screen does not show properly. The Applet we use most is for a security camera and you can't view the camera properly because of the Java issues. I have uninstalled Java and re-installed and still having the same issue. I do not see any errors on the Java Console, and this only happens on his computer I am running the same version of Java and the browsers and do not have the same issue on my machine.

  When opening a new window in IE8 or IE9 (doesn't matter if using a link or window.open), my selected keyboard language is changing to English (doesn't matter what was the previous selection, tried it with a few different languages). • Internet Explorer wont open docx files, saves them as zip

  I have several docx documents on an Intranet for my work, but IE8 refuses to open them, instaed only saving them as a zip (filename_docx.zip). This seems to be only an IE8 problem (surprise, surprise!) as both FF and Chrome open the documents just fine. Unfortunately as this is work based, I cannot simply drop IE as I would, in favour of a decent browser. Does anybody know how to fix this issue in IE? Thanks.

  I'm using IE8 on Windows 7. I'm trying to delete an add-on from my "Manage Add-ons" panel. But when I double click the add-on I'd like to delete, the "Remove" button is grayed out. • New router, slower internet connection?

  So, we just bought a new router a few hours ago, and it does work. However, for some reason the speed is just ridiculously slow (compared to before, at least)! If i run a test on speedtest.net i get the following results: http://i.imgur.com/68JyH.png which are pretty good. But for some reason it's like the connection just "hangs" for a second when i navigate to a site through the browser (have tried different browsers). It's not on all sites, it kind of happens randomly. I think the browser cache might be speeding some sites up, because if i visit a site that i HAVEN'T visited before (since i cleared my cache), it takes like two seconds (if not more) to open the site. If i have visited it, it opens directly (it barely loads). Not sure what to do, really. Any suggestions on what might speed it up? Any settings i can play with in the router settings? The router is of the brand Belkin. I'm not sure about the model though, it says "Belkin, Play Max Wireless Router" on the box? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Alright, it takes a lot more than two seconds. At least 3-4 depending on the site. Any suggestions?
