    What would be your approach with NHibernate to do the following: When Comment is inserted into DB, and its property Text is inserted into column Text (due to a mapping), insert into column TextHash a hash of this property value. It seems trivial if I map TextHash, but how should I do this without mapping it? I do not need it in the domain model, its a DB-level optimization (I would use computed HashBytes if not for the length limit).

  • How do I map common properties in NHibernate

    In the database I'm working with, every table repeats the same nine columns and I don't want to have to supply the same properties in each of my entities to map these columns. I've tried adding properties to a common base class and adding them to the sub class's mapping file, but this doesn't work. I've read the documentation around inheritance mapping but this did not help. What is the best way to map columns that repeat accross multiple tables in NHibernate?

  • Using NHibernate to insert/update using a SQL server-side DEFAULT value

    Several of our database tables contain LastModifiedDate columns. We would like these to stay synchronized based on a single time-source. Our best time-source, in this case, is the SQL Server itself since there is only one database server but multiple application servers which could potentially be off sync. I would like to be able to use NHibernate, but have it use either GETUTCDATE() or DEFAULT for the column value when updating or inserting rows on these tables. Thoughts?

    I'm looking to create a Left outer join Nhibernate query with multiple on statements akin to this: SELECT * FROM [Database].[dbo].[Posts] p LEFT JOIN [Database].[dbo].[PostInteractions] i ON p.PostId = i.PostID_TargetPost And i.UserID_ActingUser = 202 I've been fooling around with the critera and aliases, but I haven't had any luck figuring out how do to this. Any suggestions?

  • NHibernate : recover session after connection lost

    I'm using NHibernate with SQL Server 2005 in a WPF client application. If I manually stop the SQL Server service and then restart it the session doesn't automatically reconnect. So far I'm doing this witch seems to work : try { using (ITransaction transaction = this.Session.BeginTransaction()) { // some select here } }catch(Exception ex) { if(this.Session.Connection.State == ConnectionState.Closed) { try { this.Session.Connection.Open(); } catch (Exception) { } } } Is there a better way ?

    When working with NHibernate and Sql Compact in a Windows Form application I am wondering what is the best practice for managing connections. With SQL CE I have read that you should keep your connection open vs closing it as one would typically do with standard SQL. If that is the case and your using a IoC, would you make your repositories lifetime be singletons so they exist forever or dispose of them after you perform a "Unit of Work". Also is there a way to determine the number of connections open to Sql CE?

    Hello everyone, i'm working on a small project that is supposed to allow basic searches of the database. Currently i'm using nhibernate for the database interaction. In the database i have 2 tables: Person and Address. The Person table has a many-to-one relationship with Address. The code i've come up with for doing searches is: public IList<T> GetByParameterList(List<QueryParameter> parameterList) { if (parameterList == null) { return GetAll(); } using (ISession session = NHibernateHelper.OpenSession()) { ICriteria criteria = session.CreateCriteria<T>(); foreach (QueryParameter param in parameterList) { switch (param.Constraint) { case ConstraintType.Less: criteria.Add(Expression.Lt(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; case ConstraintType.More: criteria.Add(Expression.Gt(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; case ConstraintType.LessOrEqual: criteria.Add(Expression.Le(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; case ConstraintType.EqualOrMore: criteria.Add(Expression.Ge(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; case ConstraintType.Equals: criteria.Add(Expression.Eq(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; case ConstraintType.Like: criteria.Add(Expression.Like(param.ParameterName, param.ParameterValue)); break; } } try { IList<T> result = criteria.List<T>(); return result; } catch { //TODO: Implement some exception handling throw; } } } The query parameter is a helper object that i use to create criterias and send it to the dal, it looks like this: public class QueryParameter { public QueryParameter(string ParameterName, Object ParameterValue, ConstraintType constraintType) { this.ParameterName = ParameterName; this.ParameterValue = ParameterValue; this.Constraint = constraintType; } public string ParameterName { get; set; } public Object ParameterValue { get; set; } public ConstraintType Constraint { get; set; } } Now this works well if i'm doing a search like FirstName = "John" , but not when i try to give a parameter like Street = "Some Street". It seems that nhibernate is looking for a street column in the Person table but not in the Address table. Any idea on how should i change my code for so i could do a proper search? Tips? For database simplicity it uses a where clause on the bag to filter the joining table. this works well until I start to test and I use the hbm file to create a database from the generated schema. The root and user tags columns aren't created. In the hbm file how do I define these two columns so they are generated in the schema?

    I am writing a new multi-tenant WCF RIA application. I plan to have a shared database with separate SQL Server schema for each tenant. I would like to use NHibernate for object-ralational mapping. Configuration of SQL Server schema in mapping classes doesn't help because it is static and would need one set of mapping classes for each tenant. Is it possible to dynamically configure ISession which SQL Server schema should be used for mapping objects to tables?
