  When I used the html Helper Checkbox, it produces 2 form elements. I understand why this is, and I have no problem with it except: The un-checking of the checkbox does not seem to be in sync with the 'hidden' value. What I mean is that when I have a bunch of checkboxes being generated in a loop: <%=Html.CheckBox("model.MarketCategories[" & i & "].Value", category.Value)%> and the user deselects and checkbox and the category.Value is FALSE, the code being generated is: <input checked="checked" id="model_MarketCategories_0__Value" name="model.MarketCategories[0].Value" type="checkbox" value="true" /> <input name="model.MarketCategories[0].Value" type="hidden" value="false" /> This is wrong since the Value is False the checkbox should NOT be checked. Any ideas why this is happening?

  In JavaScript is there a way to get the "value" of a statement in the same way that function() { return eval("if (true) { 1 }"); } returns "1"; function() { return if (true) { 1 } } and all similar permutations I've tried are not valid syntax. Is eval just blessed with special powers to determine the "last" value of a statement in an expression? Use case is a REPL that evaluates arbitrary expressions and returns the result. eval works, but I want to wrap it in function.

• Change the default SqlCommand CommandTimeout with configuration rather than recompile?

  I am supporting an ASP.Net 3.5 web application and users are experiencing a timeout error after 30 seconds when trying to run a report. Looking around the web it seems it's easy enough to change the timeout in the code, unfortunately I'm not able to access the code and recompile. Is there anyway to configure the default for either the web app, the worker process, IIS or the whole machine? • ASP.NET 2.0 app runs on Win 2003 in IIS 5 isolation mode but not in (default) IIS 6 mode

  The app uses DLLImport to call a legacy unmanaged dll. Let's call this dll Unmanaged.dll for the sake of this question. Unmanaged.dll has dependencies on 5 other legacy dll's. All of the legacy dll's are placed in the WebApp/bin/ directory of my ASP.NET application. When IIS is running in 5.0 isolation mode, the app works fine - calls to the legacy dll are processed without error. When IIS is running in the default 6.0 mode, the app is able to initiate the Unmanaged.dll (InitMe()), but dies during a later call to it (ProcessString()). I'm pulling my hair out here. I've moved the unmanaged dll's to various locations, tried all kinds of security settings and searched long and hard for a solution. Help! • Instance validation error: '2' is not a valid value for QueryType. (web service)

  I have a web service that I am passing an enum public enum QueryType { Inquiry = 1 Maintainence = 2 } When I pass an object that has a Parameter of QueryType on it, I get the error back from the web service saying that '2' is not a valid value for QueryType, when you can clearly see from the declaration of the enum that it is. I cannot change the values of the enum because legacy applications use the values, but I would rather not have to insert a "default" value just to push the index of the enum to make it work with my web service. It acts like the web service is using the index of the values rather than the values themselves. Does anybody have a suggestion of what I can do to make it work, is there something I can change in my WSDL?

  Say I have a very simple java object that only has some getXXX and setXXX properties. This object is used only to handle values, basically a record or a type-safe (and performant) map. I often need to covert this object to key value pairs (either strings or type safe) or convert from key value pairs to this object. Other than reflection or manually writing code to do this conversion, what is the best way to achieve this? An example might be sending this object over jms, without using the ObjectMessage type (or converting an incoming message to the right kind of object).

  We've just had some Penetration Testing carried out on an application we've built using ASP.NET MVC, and one of the recommendations that came back was that the value of the AntiForgeryToken in the Form could be resubmitted multiple times and did not expire after a single use. According to the OWASP recommendations around the Synchronizer Token Pattern: "In general, developers need only generate this token once for the current session." Which is how I think the ASP.NET MVC AntiForgeryToken works. In case we have to fight the battle, is it possible to cause the AntiForgeryToken to regenerate a new value after each validation?

  Full error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'PublicationServices.IPublicationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. I have a SharePoint site that I have already opened a project for in Visual Studio 2010. I also created a project that contains a WCF Service Application and added it to the same solution that contains the project for my SharePoint site. I have created a visual web part in my SharePoint project that I am trying to use to consume the WCF Service. I am doing so like this, from within the user control for my web part: PublicationServiceClient proxy = new PublicationServiceClient(); Just having this line alone in OnPreRender, Page_Load, etc. will generate the above error. I've read previous posts about having to have items in the config file of the WCF service also in the config file of the consuming application. I have done this, I copied this section the Web.config file in my WCF service and have placed it in the system.serviceModel tags of my SharePoint project's app.config file: In other words, this is in both of my config files. When I add this web part to the front page of my SharePoint site though, I get the above error every time. I should also note that I have created a console app that I was able to use with no problems to consume data from this very same WCF service. Any help would be appreciated!

• How to store a numeric value which can have other statuses in a database?

  I need to store a set of numbers in a database which are imported from a spreadsheet. Sometimes a number is just a number. But in other times, a value can be "missing", "N/A", or blank and these all represent different things. What would be a good approach to store these numbers in the database? Originally I only had to account for N/A. So I made it -1 as I imported them (this only works if the number can never be negative obviously). I could use other negative numbers for other statuses. However, that seems clunky to me. Should I store the numbers as string then apply conversion at use time? Should I create a matching table that stores different statuses of each value?

  Hello, I have a jquery ui autocomplete widget in a form and I'd like to preselect its value from a database. My autocomplete works in the following way: the id is a number, tha label and the value are the same and are a concatenation of id + " - " + description. When a value from the autocomplete is selected, a hidden field's value is set to the value of id. Then, the hidden field value is saved to the db when the form is submitted. When the user comes back on the page for editing, I need to reload the value from the db: I set the idden field value again and then I would like to precompile the value of the autocomplete widget with the concatenation of id + " - " + description taken form the db.   I am looking to access the actual value returned from the server.getRowData returns the value after unformat applied to the value. This results in loss of information. For instance, if a double value is rounded to two decimal places and if I want to populate the form for edit with the original value returned from the server with 6 decimals, how can I get the value returned. for eg: Value returned from server : 12.345678 formatter option for column : formatter: 'number', formatoptions: {thousandsSeparator: ",", decimalPlaces: 2} Value displayed in grid : 12.35 How do I retrieve the value 12.345678 returned from the server. getRowData returns 12.35
