  • Computer wont install Windows Vista or Windows 7

    I had Windows Vista on my computer and wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 and thought that I would format my computer since it had been awhile. When I installed Windows 7 it wouldnt let me it would go through all the installation and then when my computer rebooted it would just be black screen with my mouse, I have tried mulitpule times now, and have just gone backs to Windows Vista, this no longer works and does the same thing as when I tried to insta I have a Nvidia GTX 275 video card, ASUS m2N-E SLI mother board,and a AMD 5200 Dual core processor

  • Error when starting ArcGIS Server Object Manager (v10)

    I just finished installing ArcGIS Server 10 and completed the post-installation. The ArcGIS Server Object Manager service is installed, but when I try to start it, I get the following error: "Windows could not start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager service on the Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." The agsadmin and agsusers groups exist, and my local account is a member of the agsadmin group. Any ideas on what I've done wrong? Thanks, Jon.

  • VMFS recovery - how do you proceed?

    The more I look into ESX the more often i have to handle cases where the partition table of a disk with a VMFS volume gets corrupted. The reasons for this can be * idiot user * failed update * power failure * .... I guess you guys must already have something like a usual procedure on how to work through this cases. I am especially interested in a straight fast way to find out if the VMFS volume itself is corrupted beyond repair. So far I use very time consuming attempts with scans with Testdisk and similar tools. Do you have better / faster ways ?

    i followed this article: http://www.enavigo.com/2012/01/04/enabling-oracle-oci8-php-extension-on-os-x-snow-leopard/ and im getting this error: Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data. Anytime i try to connect to an oracle database using OCI8. I'm not sure that oci8 is install properly. Can someone provide steps for installation of OCI8 using Mamp Pro?

    Using an administrator privileged account I have installed cygwin sshd following instructions here successfully on Windows XP, Vista, but on Windows 7, after installation without errors when I try to start the service ... net start sshd The CYGWIN sshd service is starting. The CYGWIN sshd service could not be started. The service did not report an error. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534. Has anyone seen this error, got any ideas on what might be wrong?

  • How to avoid the configuring ms office dialog box

    I always see the configuring ms office with a an endless progress bar, 2 or more weeks after I installed ms office(2000, 2003, 2010 beta). I'm not exactly sure what it is called but it is trying to configure ms office.Or maybe repairing the installation. And it sucks because when I need to access ms word NOW, I can only see that box with the progress bar. And when I press cancel, it won't open ms word, or maybe the whole suite(ms word, powerpoint, excel) What might be a possible solution to this?anyone here who has encountered it before

Mostly looking for experiences, perhaps Nagios comparisons, or some more concrete information on what is being monitored and how you did it. Go into as much details as you like. I am currently in the process of evaluating both Nagios and OpenNMS and the possibilities with SAP might be the deciding factor here. Sadly, I didn't find a whole lot on google on the subject.

    I tried to install the just released update of windows 8.1, but after several reboot it said it couldn't install it with the error : windows 8.1 couldn't be installed with error 0xc1900101 0x20006 I don't have truecrypt or bitlocker, just a dual boot with MacOSx86 (hackintosh) and chimera bootloader, I am not sure if it has anything to do with the error.   • Ubuntu/Windows suddenly freezes

    I've a strange problem with my ubuntu 10.04 installation. Whenever i boot into ubuntu the entire system freezes / hangs soon after (~ 2 mins in). This problem exists on my windows 7 installation too. However if i start World of Warcraft or Warcraft on windows it doesnt hang for the duration i'm playing the game. After i stop playing and exit the game my laptop hangs inside 2 mins. Here is when it gets weirder. If i disconnect the charger, the laptop doesn't hang. However when I start it in ubuntu recovery mode and drop to root shell and use the 'startx' command everything works perfectly.   • Change EXT3 stride and stripe-width settings post-install on CentOS 5.3

    Is there a way to change the stride and stripe-width options on an ext3 file system under CentOS/RHEL 5.3? There's no way to specify it via anaconda during installation that I saw, and while I see the -E option to tune2fs available under Ubuntu, I don't see it in the manpage on CentOS. I did try to use the -E flag on CentOS and it rejects the flag as unknown if I try to use it. Anyone have any way to do this short of reinstallation?

The kerberos database is being stored in LDAP itself. The KDC uses SASL EXTERNAL authentication as root to access the container ou.     This morning we couldn't receive email from outside our company's domain (domain.com.au), but we can send email to outside (e.g hotmail, gmail, yahoo). When I tried to send email to my work email address using my gmail account, I received this message Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unable to relay for [email protected] (state 14). I tried using telnet to send email, and it works. But still I couldn't figure out why I can't receive email from outside. I'm not sure if I provided enough info. I'll try to provide as much info as needed to help me solve the problem. Thanks

    When trying to turn on Remote Access on my Windows Home Server (HP MediaSmart Ex485, MediaSmart Server 3.0, Power Pack 3), I am not able to continue through the wizard as this first check fails: "Verifying that your remote Web site is available locally" Everything else on the server works fine, including being able to: Ping server RDP to server Access all shares as expected Browse to both http://servername and http://servername:55000 I have noticed though that I am unable to browse to http://servername:56000 as I should be able to do. I've performed a server recovery to reset the installation to factory defaults, with no such luck.

  • Windows service fails to start with custom user until started once with local user

    All of a sudden my Windows service application after installation does not start. (Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do.) The service uses a custom user. If I change the logon setting to use the local system account, the service starts fine. Then when I go back and change the login setting to use this custom account (local user - custom user under user group), the service will start. Why doesn't it work in the first place?

  • Java update/install via group policy

    I trying to deploy the latest Java RE version via GP, Java 7 update 9. I want to update computers that are currently running an older version of Java, a mixture of 7.6 and 7.7, some computers are running versions as old as 6.31. Some are running a mixture of both. I would also like this GP to install Java if it's not installed. Previously I used push out Java updates to users machines as Java didn't remove the old version. So when it was done the user would restart their browser or pc to start using the latest version. Not the best way to manage it as it leaves the old version installed but it worked. I've created group policies before for printer deployment, log on drive mapping scripts, but never software deployment. I've extracted the Java MSI and created a transform file to suppress reboot etc using orca. As described on this site http://ivan.dretvic.com/2011/06/how-to-package-and-deploy-java-jre-1-6-0_26-via-group-policy/. I have also tried saving the edited MSI directly and that didn't work either. But it just won't deploy. I have tried to enable logging as suggested on this site http://openofficetechnology.com/node/32, GPO logging via UserEnvDebugLevel, Software deployment logging via AppmgmtDebugLevel and MSI logging, but there is no log C:\Windows\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log being created. The windows event viewer has the following errors: Error 24/10/2012 11:44:04 AM - "Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist.   • What type of Multimeter is safe to use on computers?

    In "Upgrading and Repairing PC's - 18th edition" by Scott Mueller on pg. 1278 he discusses multimeters. "You should only use a DMM (digital multimeter) instead of the older needle-type multimeters because the older meters work by injecting 9V into the circuit when measuring resistance, which damages most computer circuits. A DMM uses a much smaller voltage (usually 1.5V) when making resistance measurements, which is safe for electronic equipment." Most DMM's that I've looked at have 9V batteries. Are they internally stepping down the voltage used when making these measurements? Wouldn't the concern of injecting 9V be true when measuring continuity as well? A little off topic, there is a fascinating way to test for laptop screen inverter failure, (http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm), is anyone aware of a safe DMM that is capable of this as well?

  • .NET 3.5 SP1 Installer hang at around 80%

    Hi, I was trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1 to one of our production machines with Windows 2003 SP2. However, the installer just hang at around 80% with message "Setup is loading installation components, This may take a minute or two". In fact it's been like that for 30mins already and using 0% CPU. I disabled the anti-virus software and then applied the windows installer 4.5 update but no luck, the installer still hangs. Anyone had this problem before?

  • APCUPSD and Hyper V R2

    I'm about to deploy a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with the Hyper V role. I'd like to get away from having to use a network management card with my APC UPS as I'm only shutting down 1 server (it just seems like an unneeded point of failure). I'd like to look into using apcupsd instead. Will this work properly if I use a serial connection? Have you got it working yourself? How is the SNMP monitoring? I really like being able to easily monitor my UPS with SNMP when powerchute is installed. Will I be sacrificing this completely? Is the network management card really the way to go with this? If so, why? Bonus question: Is there a better UPS out there that I should be recommending in the future?
