• gcc, mac Leopard: how to run it from any path

  hi, I've installed gcc 4.0 on mac from Xtools dmg. If I go to the directory /usr/bin and I call ./gcc-4.0 it works. I would like to make it work from any directory by just typing "gcc". How can I make it ? thanks

• Where are the netlogon files physically stored?

  I have umpteen backups trying to restore my scripts I had in the netlogon share but when I go to them the folder is empty. Does backup not back those scripts in netlogon up? Is there somewhere I should expect to see the files at besides c:\winnt\sysvol\sysvol\mydomain\scripts? Thank you for any help.

• traffic shaping with "netem delay" works ok, but limits upload bandwidth to 330KB/s. Why?

  I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and the kernel 2.6 build-in NETEM tool to delay traffic. After I apply: tc qdisc add dev eth0 root netem delay 100ms The upload bandwidth can't go further than 330KB/s and I have a 100Mbit connection. How can I fix this so that my upload bandwidth is still full. Thanks!

• Browser displays 'Apache is functioning normally' when I enter 'http://you/' in the location bar

  I am on a Mac and when I enter http://you/ in the location bar, it displays 'Apache is functioning normally' no matter which browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) I am using. Is this normal? Or could it be that my computer is hacked in some way and is now acting as a server for the hackers? EDIT: I originally wanted to go to the youtube.com, but entered http://you/ by accident and found out this strange behavior.

  ...when logged into a Server via remote Desktop? I see no way to Access Windows security. In "old" 2008 R2 there was a "Windows Security" entry in the start menu when coming via rdp. In the new Metro Start Menu, the username context menu allows me to lock the Computer or log out - but not Change the Password. Yes, I can go through user Management, but this is not something I want People to do ;)

  I know in TextMate I can go to preferences - advanced - folder references and play with the regex pattern to remove certain types of files and folders by default. I heard that if you have an existing project, however, and chance these, the project is not affected. From a similar but different angle, I am interested to know if I can exclude certain types of files, say anything named "index.html" from an existing project while not changing the global scope. • Duplicate mails in unread mail view of Windows Live Mail

  When I get new mail and go to the "unread email" quick view I always see two version of the email, even though I definitely have only one such version in the inbox itself. Further, viewing the message via inbox usually marks only one of these copies as read, or sometimes none at all. I have no custom filters defined that could cause duplication. Any idea what's going on? PS This is the new version (2011).

  I have a list (e.g., a bulleted list) in Microsoft Word. This list is inside a table cell. When I press Tab to increase the indent, rather than increasing the indent, it moves the cursor to the next cell. When I try Ctrl+Tab, it just inserts a tab character without changing the indentation of the bullet (paragraph). How can I turn this off, so it does not go to the next cell but rather just indents the list?

• Solution to tack things up on top or to the side of a monitor

  I'm trying to find some sort of product that would either go on the top or the side of an lcd monitor and give me space to tape/push-pin/post it note things for myself. For random notes and things I want to keep track of, having them on the top/side of my monitor would keep the space on my desk itself clear, and they would be closer to my field of vision.   Is there a way to set windows 2008 file and folder sharing permission so you only get prompted for a password on certain shares? That is, right now, when I got to \theserver\ I get prompted for a password despite having some shared folders that permit anonymous access. Is there a way, asides from setting the policy sharing model to guest rather than Classic to allow a user from a non-domain pc to go to \theserver\ and see the shares and permit him or her to enter a folder with anonymous access without having to enter a username or password?

  Hi, I recently have moved my server and changed nameservers and ip, i updated my domain. but somehow in windows 7 when i go to my domain, it resolves old ip even though mac os x shows the new site. Then i edited hosts file with the new ip in windows, it is ok now. but why this happens ? is it about isp cache or sth ? thanks

• ssh sessions in xterms freeze for many minutes whenever they disconnect

  If I ssh to a remote machine and then lose internet connectivity, the session freezes. I can't control-c or otherwise abort and go back to my local xterm or terminal prompt but if I wait several minutes it will do so. There must be some way to force it to abort the remote ssh session when connectivity is lost. I'm on a Mac but I believe this happens on cygwin or linux as well.
