I want to perform a update then select the result. I don't want anything to be able to update the row I am updating until after the select has occurred. How would I do this?
I am looking up all Organizations with the url "http://", and updating their attributes to "".
My attempt:
Organization(:all).select { |o| o.url = "http://" ? o.update_attribute("url","")}
Which returns a compile error:
SyntaxError: compile error
(irb):2: syntax error, unexpected '}'
from (irb):2
Any ideas?
Let's say I have a table with millions of rows. Using JPA, what's the proper way to iterate over a query against that table, such that I don't have all an in-memory List with millions of objects?
I suspect that the following will blow up if the table is large:
List<Model> models = entityManager().createQuery("from Model m", Model.class).getResultList();
for (Model model : models)
{
// do something with model
}
Is pagination (looping and manually updating setFirstResult()/setMaxResult()) really the best solution?
Hi,
I have a model with a version field - autocreate timestamp.
When a model instance is being saved I want to create a new instance with a new timestamp instead of updating the old model instance.
Is it possible?
I thought of overriding the model save() method but I don't know how to create a new instance without creating a infinite save() loop.
Thanks
Whats the simplest way to update the paths of the images after migrating the website from local machine to a live server. Most of the times I end up updating the paths manually. I m convinced that there must be a simpler way which i m missing out on.
Kindly suggest.
I have grown tired of all the little issues with paste template, it's horrible to maintain the templates, it has no way of updating an old project and it's very hard to test.
I'm wondering if someone knows of an alternative for quickstart generators as they have proven to be useful.
I have a table in my form, where I put n-rows, every row contains 1 RadioButtonList, when user select the item in RadioButtonList, I need to get number of selected Item, without updating the page.
I understand the default git behaviour of updating the modification time every time it changes a file, but there are times when I want to restore a file's original modification time.
Is there a way I can tell git to do this?
(As an example, when working on a large project, I made some changes to configure.ac, found out that autotools doesn't work on my system, and wanted to restore configure.ac's to its original contents and modification time so that make doesn't try to update configure with my broken autotools).
I have created a asp:TextBox. its disabled. but its values is changed via javascript. When i click a button to get the updated value in that textbox it always show me empty ("").
In my Page_Load i am doing everything in if(!Page.IsPostBack) so there is no chance of updating TextBox value on postback in Page_Load.
Where i could be wrong? how can i get updated value?
Reading about both Linq to SQL and Entity Framework I have developed the impression that EF is more suitable for apps that get data from multiple data sources.
But as I am reading about MVC2 models I see an example where EF is more loosely coupled with your data model.
If I have to add or remove some columns from a table then what is involved in updating my model or DAL with each of these implementations?
We are a manufacturing plant that runs off an ERP system written in SQL Server. I have never worked with SQL and therefore do not know the language. What I do know is that a trigger job that was running and updating data for us, is now NO longer running. Is anyone familiar enough to answer any questions about this for me??? Any help would certainly be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jana
In a pylons controller, I would like to first return the response to the request (so that the user gets a response ASAP), and then perform some additional operations (say, updating view counts, etc.) that didn't need to happen to generate the response. What's the best-practice for doing things like this?
Thanks!
I am using InnoDB for a MySQL table, and obviously queries using LIKE and RLIKE/REGEXP can take a lot of time.
I've tried Spinx, and it works great, except I have to re-index context at intervals. I can re-index every minute, but I am wondering if there is either 1) a setting in Sphinx to keep records always indexed or 2) other software besides Sphinx that will keep records always indexed.
I want it where that immediately upon inserting or updating a record, the index is updated.
I am calling a PreferenceActivity from another activity and then updating the application state (ie: changing the font size) on onActivityResult, based on the preference changes.
I was thinking it would be better to put the state update logic in the PreferenceActivity. That way I don't have the duplicate the logic in each activity that calls the PreferenceActivity.
What's the best or correct way to do this?
Are there any alternatives to ctags and cscope with Objective-c support. This does pertain to cocoa development, so inevitably it seems I will be using Xcode (and probably should). I was just wondering what are my Vim options.
Maybe there is some type of plugin system like eclim, but for xcode?
EDIT
So it seems that other than updating ctags to support objective-c, I'm out of luck. Does anyone know if cscope is the same?
Hi,
I'm trying to allow a user to set their location and then have Google Maps pan to that location.
I can't seem to get panTo to work, instead of updating my map it just reloads the page.

Any ideas?
I am aware that you can generate create scripts to generate database objects, but I am looking a way to generate an update script that compares two different schemas (two mapping files).
That way I can provide my users with easy database updating from any version to the current version.
Thanks!
Hi,
How do I work with an xml file that when updating it, after saving the commented lines would still be present.
Here's my code snippet for saving the file:
public static void WriteSettings(Settings settings, string path)
{
XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Settings));
TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter(path);
serializer.Serialize(writer, settings);
writer.Close();
}
What is the best way to update a Java or GWT program from MySQL. For example, a MySQL database which holds Weather information... updating whenever the weather changes a degree. How would I update a Java / GWT field with each update. Would I use a thread to query every few seconds??
Hi Guys,
Is there a built-in functionalities in solr/lucene to filter the results if they fall below a certain score threshold? Let's say if I provide a score threshold of .2, then all documents with score less than .2 will be removed from my results. My intuition is that this is possible by updating/customizing solr or lucene.
Could you point me to right direction on how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

I have database with oracle number type. Could there any possible issues with using java Double when updating table with numeric column. Should i switch BigDecimal or Double is approriate type.
As I fas as I know, BigDecimal is used when arbitrary precision required, when deal with prices for example.
Consider simple API updatePrice(Double d) Should i persist double as is or BigDecimal.valueOf(d) is preferable ?
Hi,
If you have created a branch and are working with the files in that branch, when you 'update' it, is it updating/merging the code in the branch with the code in the trunk?
Also, when you have commited your changes to the branch, how do you update the trunk with your changes? (since you commit the changes and have to switch to the trunk again?)
Any comments will be appreciated :)
Thanks,
