• Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server with installed licenses will not go beyond 2 connections

  I installed the Terminal Server role in Windows Server 2003 Standard 64-bits. Still, only 2 connections are allowed. The License Manager says that there are 10 Device CALs available, which is correct, and that none are given out. For good measure I let the server reboot, to no effect. Before this, there was another server (same Windows, except that it is 32 bits) active as a licensing server. I removed the role first and then then added it to the new server. I then removed the Terminal Server Licensing Server component off the old one and added it to the new one. After that, I added to licenses. When that didn't give the required result, I rebooted to new server. Still, the new server, with licenses and all, acts as if it has the 2 license RDP. The server are all stand-alone, there is no active directory been set up. Both servers are in different workgroups.

• IIS 7.5 Custom HTTP Response Headers Not Working

  Trying to setup custom HTTP Response Headers on a new install of IIS7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and they are not working. Default headers work fine (X-Powered-By, etc...). Modifying default header values work (ie. change X-Powered-By to ASP.NET2). Modifying default header names cause header to stop being output (ie. Change X-Powered-By to X-Powered-By2). Site in question is a test site with a single html page. Custom headers also don't work on ASP.NET 2.0 site. I've tried setting the headers at the global level and at the site level to no effect.

• Fonts still missing in Flash after cleaning caches

  Hi there I was having missing fonts in Flash CS4, so I cleaned the font caches using the following commands in Terminal: sudo atsutil databases -remove atsutil server -shutdown atsutil server -ping These commands ran fine, so I restarted and opened my Flash file. Now suddenly Verdana is missing in Flash which was previously there. I ran FontNuke, and cleaned caches, and rebooted. Still nothing showed in Flash. I ran Cocktail, and cleaned just the font caches (all users on system), still nothing in Flash. I reinstalled Flash (didn't work) I then uninstalled Flash, rebooted and installed Flash, rebooted. (didn't work) After all this, Verdana still doesn't load in Flash. I validated all fonts in Font Book and removed the erroneous fonts. Is there any other way I can have all the fonts load in Flash (eliminate another cache I am not seeing)? I am so sick of Flash and its font caches and Verdana is pretty much a standard font so what am I doing wrong here?

• HyperV on Domain Controller or DC on HyperV?

  I want to setup a little fileserver/domain controller/sharepoint server. SharePoint shouldn't run on the DC directly, so I want to use HyperV. But I never used it before, so I wonder: Should I install the Domain Controller and HyperV Role and run 1 VM for SharePoint? Or should I run HyperV server and then 2 servers, one for SharePoint and 1 for DC? Usage is minimal with only 1 user. Hardware will be an Athlon II X3 with 3x2.9 GHz and 4 GB RAM. Operating System will be Server 2008 R2 Standard in all cases.

• Intel RST crashing! IAStorUI unstable in win 8.1

  I have a Z87E-ITX Asrock mobo. Using a new 64G Corsair SSD as cache and a new Western Digi Black Scorpion 750G 2.5" drive. Using windows 8.1. Latest software or not, I can't open Intel RST software without it saying IAStorUI has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly blah blah. I have had some issues recently with Robotic sounds causing fps drops etc but found it was the HDD. After a standard windows scan and fix (& update to win 8.1) I haven't been able to open Intel RST. I thought maybe I should try to look for an SSD cache drive checker but as it doesn't show up as a drive, I'm unsure how any program can scan it.

• How to migrate from Natara DayNotez for Pocket PC / Windows Mobile

  I've been using DayNotez as my notes manager since the old Palm PDA days. When I moved to Windows Mobile, I installed DayNotez there and migrated from the Palm version. Now I wish to move from DayNotez altogether (I currently consider Evernote as a decent cross-platform tool). Problem is, DayNotez doesn't let me export the notes (unless I want to transfer them one by one, which is a pain). Natara offers an export tool for Windows, but it only works for Palm HotSync (as it reads from the backed-up PDB file). DayNotez Desktop for Windows stores its local DB under "My Documents\Natara\DayNotez\" directory in a file named "[device name] DayNotez.dnz". Quick look within the file spots a string "Standard Jet DB" near the beginning, but I couldn't open it as a regular JET/MDB file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Mount Return Code for CIFS mount

  When I run the following command (as root or via sudo) from a bash script I get an exit status (or return code in mount man page parlance) of 1: mount -v -t cifs //nasbox/volume /tmpdir/ --verbose -o credentials=/root/cifsid & /tmp/mylog It outputs the following into the myflog file: parsing options: rw,credentials=/root/cifsid mount.cifs kernel mount options unc=//nasbox\volume,ip=192.168.1.1,user=root,pass=xxxx,ver=1,rw,credentials=/root/cifsid It mounts the volume fine but returns the exit code (from the mount man page): 1 Incorrect invocation or permissions The standard Linux log files don't contain any error information. Hence, all seems to go well but I get an exit code of 1 instead of 0. Any ideas? The -v and --verbose options are just there for debugging this problem.

• Redirect TS Gateway Authentication to RADIUS Server

  Hi All, I'm trying to set up an environment for my TS gateway server where the authentication for the initial login to the TS gateway server is handled by a RADIUS server (as determined by NPS), then the user uses standard Windows Auth to log in to their destination machine. I have the server successfully passing the auth to the RADIUS server, but only after it does a Windows auth first. The credentials will not match between the Windows Server and the RADIUS server, so the RADIUS auth always fails, and the TS Gateway server will not forward the request to the RADIUS server unless the Windows Auth succeeds. Does anyone know how to disable the Windows Auth requirement on a TS Gateway server? This is a pretty vanilla SBS 2008 box.

• Wrong keymap in games under OSX

  While it's somewhat related to gaming, I believe this kind of question definitely belongs here. On most games, I have a very weird problem related to keymap: they apparently load a wrong map, i.e. a legacy one that has not been used since 68k AFAIK, that is a QZERTY, with M to the right of the L. I can't understand why this happens, I guess they use a bugged library for getting keyboard input, I'm not sure. While I can actually bind the keys using this map, sometimes it prevents me from binding some, such as the numbers. A very odd workaround happens with Urban Terror: if I enable and disable fullscreen, it reverts to the correct keymap (didn't try this on other games, such as Aquaria). It may or may not be useful to know that I use a custom keymap but even if I select the standard keymap before starting the game the problem happens anyway.

• Connecting Dell PowerVault NAS to ESXi

  Just got a Dell PowerVault NAS storage device running Windows Storage Server Standard which includes NFS. When I try and connect the ESXi server I get the following message: Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateNasDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "powerhouse" failed. Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to complete Sysinfo operation. Please see the VMkernel log file for more details. I am pretty sure it is a username/password type thing. Not sure were to begin though. Also, I am planning on using "Username Mapping" instead of Active Directory. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

• TortoiseSVN overlay icons do not appear when installed by a different user account?

  I've installed TortoiseSVN on my work Windows XP machine as the administrator. When I login in as a standard user my working copies do not display the overlay icons in Windows Explorer. I found this on TortoiseSVN's support pages: Did you install TortoiseSVN as a different user under WinNT/Win2K/WinXP than you are using now? Go to the settings of TSVN and activate the icon overlays for at least the fixed drives. The installer does this automatically for the current user (can't do it for other users...) but since you are using TSVN as a different user than you installed it you need to set this manually. http://tortoisesvn.net/node/97 I've checked the settings for overlay icons for the current user and the options Local and Network drives are checked. I've tried even toggling them off, applying, then on again and applying, then restarting but they still don't appear.   I am in the administrators group for my local Windows XP machine and I would like to get updates via http://update.microsoft.com/[1]. However, this is prevented via the group policy: Network policy settings prevent you from using this website to get updates for your computer. Is there anyway to override this specific policy for my machine or my user? [1] Several installed applications are Microsoft based, but are not part of the machine standard (eg Visual studio). As such, I am not getting the updates for these applications. I could periodically go to the various application sites and look for hotfixes, but that is beyond tedious.

• inaccessible_boot_device after p2v Windows 2000 Pro SP4 to Workstation 6.5

  I am using the latest VMware Converter Standalone to p2v a physical Windows 2000 Professional SP4 PC. The PC is a standard Pentium with IDE disk from circa 2001. The disk is 20GB partitioned logically into C: and D. It converts with no errors (I did both disks into one VMDK). When I power on the VM in VMware Workstation 6.5 (or Vmware Player 2.5) it gets to the Win 2000 boot graphic then I get a BSOD with the classic 0x7B Stop error: inaccessible_boot_device. Is there anything I can do to get the vm to boot? I am lost for ideas, normally p2v of a basic IDE pc works flawlessly. I'm willing to put a bounty on this as I am trying to sort this out for a client urgently.

• Installing trunk Mono on Ubuntu

  I am quite new to linux. I have to install Mono on a linux machine from souce code. I know the general method: read-instructions, install-dependencies, ./configure, make, make install. However this approach doesn't fit into the general Ubuntu package management routine. Other programs I install from .debs won't be able to notice the version of Mono. Also I can't remove Mono using standard Ubuntu package management tools. Is there an easy solution? I have seen that Ubuntu actually has several separate packages for the Mono project. Should I build packages from Mono? How can I follow the same conventions as the ubuntu packagers? Where should I look for info on packaging? Can you give step by step instructions? Thanks!

• Problem with regsvr32 on Windows Server 2008

  Hi all! I am attempting to register a basic COM dll on a Windows Server 2008 standard box. I run regsvr32 capicom.dll and it reports DllRegisterServer in capicom.dll succeeded. This is the same process we've used for years on Windows Server 2003. Sadly, when I attempt to create the object via a very very basic Microsoft vbscript example Set oStore = CreateObject("CAPICOM.Store") it throws a "ActiveX component can't create object" error. Thinking maybe it was a problem with this dll, I tried a few other DLLs we use with the same result. I tried using the regsvr32 in system, system32, and syswow64 all with the same result. I don't know too much about the differences between each of those, but figured it was worth a shot. The dll is being stored on the d:\ and seems to have correct permissions (though that'd be a different error altogether). Thanks to any help or thoughts you might have!

• How is this word document encoded?

  Hi all, We have a program that was written for us by a developer that we can no longer contact, the program opens word documents (forms) that we use in our company, you can tell they are Word documents as the 'Word' toolbar displays with this custom program and we can see the .doc files on the hard drive, the Save button is disabled in the program and when we open the .doc files in word the encoding is not standard as the forms are unreadable but look perfect in the custom program. If we can word out how he has done this we can hopefully convert the 100's of forms that we use. One of the .doc files can be download below, I've scanned it for viruses, it's clean. In my development environment, I use a virtual-host for each project. The virtual-host for a project is configured during the "deploytodevelopment" ANT task. Which method would you recommend for integrating PHP into my build process? Change the virtual-hosts setup to point to the workspace/myproject/src folder. Edit the PHP in the workspace/myproject/src folder. or Check out another working copy of the myproject/src folder to the build/myproject folder. • Outlook close to tray

  Ok, I'm stuck using outlook in the office (but they let me use 2010 betas which are awsome, btw) and one thing I'll allways rant about outlook in any version is that when I press the X button it goes away. I mean, I know the X button is supposed to close the app, it's the standard and all that, but email is (sadly) very critical, as well as meeting requests and reminders, outlook should not be closed so freaking easily. I mean, Live Messenger is not so critical but it has this feature built in and on by default. Is there a way to close outlook to the tray, addons, vba, settings, reghack, anything? I know there is minimize to tray and I've been searching the web but could not find anything usefull.

• How easy is it to migrate a Linux VM image from one VM env to another?

  If I stick to one of the standard, well-supported VM disk images (like a raw image, or VDI, VMDK, ...), are Linux VMs typically easy to move between VM environments? E.g., between (say) VirtualBox and KVM, or VMWare and Xen? I'm talking here of fully virtualized environments, not paravirtualization requiring support within the guest OS. It seems to me that the kernels in most Linux distributions these days are configured to...keep an open mind and detect things at boot time, so you don't have the issue that you sometimes have moving a Windows VM from one virtualization system to another (I'm thinking particularly of HAL issues that Windows has, like ACPI vs. non-ACPI; I've also just had Windows VMs generally acting strangely when moved from VMWare to VirtualBox, for instance). I'm looking for a general answer, but if it helps, specifically I'm mostly going to be doing this with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 10.04 LTS guests. But that could change.

• Domain Controllers group not reflected in domain controllers credentials

  I set up a small testlab in vbox consisting of four servers. Two domain controllers dc01, dc02, one offline root ca and one online enterprise sub ca, ca01. All servers are based on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Everything works as excpected except one thing. If I issue a certificate template with read, enroll and autoenroll rights to the security group "domain controllers" it does not let dc01 or dc02 to enumerate or enroll for the certificate. I've restarted both domain controllers several times to update their credential tokens with the correct group memberhips. So I added dc01 to the "domain computers" group and gave that group read, enroll and autoenroll rights in the template, bam, the certificate was issued. So my question is, why isn't the domain controllers group memberhips reflected in the domain controllers (dc01 and dc02) credentials? Can I view the computers credentials somehow and how should I go about trying to resolve the issue?

• Windows 7 crashes with STOP 0x101 ("A clock interrupt was not received..") every time the laptop tri

  I have an HP Compaq nc8430 with a new install of Windows 7 (32 bit). Every time I sleep the laptop, it crashes. It also crashes sometimes just during normal use. It does hibernate properly. The only reliable trigger I've found to crash it is sleep mode. It's not overclocked, and only standard drivers are installed. It seems to always be the following error: A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the time interval. And the following STOP code: STOP: 0x00000101 (0x00000061, 0x00000000, 0x80DBF120, 0X00000001) I'm not sure it's always the same parameters exactly, but always seems to be error 101. Given the text of the error message, I've disabled the Dual Core option in BIOS, and this appears to have fixed it - no crashes so far, and it sleeps ok now. However, I'd love a solution that doesn't involve cutting processor performance in half. Any suggestions?

• SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go. • Scheduled Task to show console window when logged on but still run when not logged on

  Is it possible (and if so, how) to set up a task (console application) in Server 2008 so that it'll run both when a user is logged in and when no user is logged in, AND - if the user is logged in (either local or via RDP) - have the console appear on the screen while the program is running? Ie. the program should run under the defined user context and it writes status messages to stdout, which goes to a standard console window. This console window is either shown (if the defined user is currently logged in locally or via RDP), or not shown (but the application is still run). I have access to the source of the console application, so if it needs some additional code (like specifically opening up a new console window or what have you), then that's not a problem. At the moment, I can set up the task as "Run only when user is logged on" which will run the application when the user is logged on (local or RDP) and I can then see the status messages, or I can set it up as "Run whether user is logged or not" and no status output is visible - not even if the user is logged on.
