• mailing system DB structure, need help

  i have a system there user(sender) can write a note to friends(receivers), number of receivers=0. Text of the message is saved in DB and visible to sender and all receivers then they login to system. Sender can add more receivers at any time. More over any of receivers can edit the message and even remove it from DB. For this system i created 3 tables, shortly: users(userID, username, password) messages(messageID, text) list(id, senderID, receiverID, messageID) in table "list" each row corresponds to pair sender-receiver, like sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_2_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_3_ID -- message_1_ID Now the problem is: 1. if user deletes the message from table "messages" how to automatically delete all rows from table "list" which correspond to deleted message. Do i have to include some foreign keys? More important: 2. if sender has let say 3 receivers for his message1 (username1, username2 and username3) and at certain moment decides to add username4 and username5 and at the same time exclude username1 from the list of receivers. PHP code will get the new list of receivers (username2, username3, username4, username5) That means insert to table "list" sender_x_ID -- receiver_4_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_5_ID -- message_1_ID and also delete from table "list" the row corresponding to user1 (which is not in the list or receivers any more) sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID which sql query to send from PHP to make it in an easy and intelligent way? Please help! Examples of sql queries would be perfect!

• Memory mapping of files and system cache behavior in WinXP

  Our application is memory intensive and deals with reading a large number of disk files. The total load can be more than 3 GB. There is a custom memory manager that uses memory mapped files to achieve reading of such a huge data. The files are mapped into the process memory space only when needed and with this the process memory is well under control. But what is observed is, with memory mapping, the system cache keeps on increasing until it occupies the available physical memory. This leads to the slowing down of the entire system. My question is how to prevent system cache from hogging the physical memory? I attempted to remove the file buffering (by using FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING ), but with this, the read operations take considerable amount of time and slows down the application performance. How to achieve the scalability without sacrificing much on performance. What are the common techniques used in such cases? I dont have a good understanding of the WinXP OS caching behavior. Any good links explaining the same would also be helpful.

• Built in background-scheduling system in .NET?

  I ask though I doubt there is any such system. Basically I need to schedule tasks to execute at some point in the future (usually no more than a few seconds or possibly minutes from now), and have some way of cancelling that request unless too late. Ie. code that would look like this: var x = Scheduler.Schedule(() => SomethingSomething(), TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5)); ... x.Dispose(); // cancels the request Is there any such system in .NET? Is there anything in TPL that can help me? I need to run such future-actions from various instances in a system here, and would rather avoid each such class instance to have its own thread and deal with this. Also note that I don't want this (or similar, for instance through Tasks): new Thread(new ThreadStart(() => { Thread.Sleep(5000); SomethingSomething(); })).Start(); There will potentially be a few such tasks to execute, they don't need to be executed in any particular order, except for close to their deadline, and it isn't vital that they have anything like a realtime performance concept. I just want to avoid spinning up a separate thread for each such action.

• How can I create a weekly calendar view for an Android Honeycomb application?

  I am working on an Android (v3.0) application that has a requirement of mimicking the weekly calendar layout found on Google Calendar: The events will be based on external requests through the Google Calendar API (I already have this part working). Using the API, I can obtain a list of events for the week, with each event having a starting and and ending datetime. I would like to use this data to show the scheduled events to the application's users in a view similar to the one above. Thus, whenever I would like to add an event that has a duration of 1.5 hours, I will make an 60dp button that I will place at the exact location that the time begins (12am = 0dp from the top, 1pm = 40dp from the top, 2pm = 80d from the top, etc). My questions are: Is there a better way of doing this? How can I convert my XML to be stand-alone view that could be added to any Android project? (I plan on perhaps making a blog post about the end product) Thank you!

• Svcutil generating bad config with multiple endpoints

  I have a WCF service that has exposed a soap and an xml endpoint. When I use svcutil to generate the proxy code on the client side the generated configuration contains two endpoints which causes the client to fail. If I edit the web.config file and remove the second endpoint (with the custom binding) all works as expected. Is there a way I can get svcutil to generate a config that just works so that I don't need to hand edit the file everytime? • I need to understand why my server turned off

  Our organization was robbed and definitely it was inside job. I was set up. I work as a manager and as system administrator in this organization and everything goes against me. The only clue I have is that someone accidentally or intentionally turned of a server that is in the office indicating that some one was inside at the time that no one should be. This is the only evidence I have that can justify me.  I looked the log files and they show that the Power button was pressed. Can you help me to find out that that was not a bug or systems overheat?   Hello stackoverflow, I recently started Android programming and was working on my first program which displays a historic text document, sectioned by tabs via TabHost. I have limited my program to one activity and merely used setContent in my TabSpec's to switch between different XML views. The document has both unedited and corrected versions of the text for which I have built text views to accommodate. I wanted to implement the standard menu to have buttons to "view corrected" and "view original" and switch the content of the tabs which have changes (without altering the tabs or their indicators). I've read on the TabHost API and there is no way to edit existing tab content with setContent() of TabSpec; and AFAIK TabWidget only affects the actual tabs, not the content that is displayed upon pressing them. I've thought about creating a new class which extended TabHost and super() all of the original methods, while including one more which updated the mTabSpec list. My question would be, how would I update the frameLayout view of a specific tab to display content I specify?

  We currently use XStream for encoding our web service inputs/outputs in XML. However we are considering switching to a binary format with code generator for multiple languages (protobuf, Thrift, Hessian, etc) to make supporting new clients easier and less reliant on hand-coding (also to better support our message formats which include binary data). However most of our objects on the server are POJOs with XStream handling the serialization via reflection and annotations, and most of these libraries assume they will be generating the POJOs themselves. I can think of a few ways to interface an alternative library: Write an XStream marshaler for the target format. Write custom code to marshal the POJOs to/from the classes generated by the alternative library. Subclass the generated classes to implement the POJO logic. May require some rewriting. (Also did I mention we want to use Terracotta?) Use another library that supports both reflection (like XStream) and code generation. However I'm not sure which serialization library would be best suited to the above techniques.

  Made a xslt template with output instruction for <DOCTYPE> <xsl:output media-type="text/html" method="html" encoding="windows-1251" doctype-public="-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" doctype-system="http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd" omit-xml-declaration="yes"/> In xsl-debug I'm receiving right <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> on top of the html. But when I'm using XslCompiledTransform etc.. output starts from <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">. So, Doctype is missed. Why? Right properties of XslCompiledTransform initialized just like I set in . How can I get DOCTYPE from XslCompiledTransform?

How i can make every word active for click and send it to another script for example: I click on dog, and in new window i get information about dog? on fox about fox? every word must be clickable Any ideas, links or examples? • Does WCF always use SOAP to send information over your binding?

  I understand you can choose from a range of bindings, such as TCP, HTTP, HTTPS etc. Am I correct in thinking it always uses SOAP to send data over this connection? I am watching a guide to WCF and it is talking about how exceptions are serialized into SOAP and sent to the client. I would have thought that not all bindings would use SOAP to send data, so I am a bit confused about how it works. Although I understand the fundamentals of WCF, how to set up services and use a proxy on the client, it doesn't seem to have explained exactly how the data is packaged up to send. Perhaps the answer is obvious, that it just uses XML / SOAP, but I would love to know for sure!

  The Document class have a getDoctype method but doesn't have a setDoctype. The documentation says: The DOM Level 2 does not support editing the Document Type Declaration. docType cannot be altered in any way, including through the use of methods inherited from the Node interface, such as insertNode or removeNode. and in my project I need to generate xml files with my specified doctypes. I've tryied to create my own DefaultNode, but it throws "DOMException: Method not supported" for the setters. Any idea?
