• How does one dismantle the ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 (model 4337)?

  I have a ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 with a spring that is too stiff, causing problems with the connectivity when a computer is docked. I tried to open it so that I can soften the spring, but hit a brick wall. I removed all the screws I could find at the the bottom and the back panel of the docking station, but the bottom part of the plastic case would still not part from the top of the plastic case. I even looked under some of the various stickers for more screws, but found nothing. Can anyone please help with pointers on dismantling this docking station?

• Disable word completion dialog when pressing escape in Safari

  Behavior: Load Safari 5.0 on mac. Press command+f to search for some text. Type something, and find it on the page. Hit esc to cancel the search. Irritatingly, get word completion menu rather than canceling. Is there any way to make esc cancel the search, like it used to with Safari 4.0, instead of pulling up a word completion dialog? It's very annoying. Failing that, what's the best way to cancel the search with the keyboard? Note: this also happens in any text field, the search box, the location bar etc.

• Can a process have two pid's?

  I'm studying computer systems and I've made this very simple function which uses fork() to create a child process. fork() returns a pid_t that is 0 if it's a child process. But calling the getpid() function within this child process returns a different, nonzero pid. In the code I have below, is newPid only meaningful in the context of the program, and not to the operating system?   I have my open table cache set to 1800 and I have a total of 1112 tables. MySQL Tuning Primer reports that 100% of my table cache is used yet my table cache hit rate is 5%. I understand that this happens due to concurrent connections all opening tables. I think I should raise the cache limit. I understand that the cache size is limited by the file descriptor limit of my operating system, but are there any other practical limitations I should be aware of? Searching Google or this very website yields mostly posts explaining the connection-factor or come up with indecisive answers. My question: can I safely increase the open table cache limit? Is there a maximum?

I've got a bunch of different host machines that differ in ram, cpu's, etc. What should my resource manager look like? Is there a standard way to know what the CPU, Memory and Disk Utilization should be given your CPUs + Memory available + Disks available? For example, I have a box: MemTotal: 50 Gb CPUs: 8 CPUs are pretty much 100% all day long. Memory is at about 60%. Swap not getting hit. Little bewildered by why the VMs, while doing the exact same test script, are showing different virtual memory consumption. Huh.

  I'm adding a new 64-bit server to our domain. Everything seems fine except when accessing the machine using remote desktop, after a few seconds the connection is lost. The error message is "This computer can't connect to the remote computer." "Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." A similar result with Telnet on port 3389. I am able to connect but if I hit a key the connection to host lost. The event log shows the successful login. No errors. Any ideas?

  Is it possible to prevent my Windows 7 guest OS intercepting Ctrl+Up/Down, and allow my Ubuntu how to intercept them instead? I have a dual-monitor setup with two vertical virtual desktops on Ubuntu. I have a Windows 7 fullscreen guest on one monitor, set to always display on the current workspace. This means I have effectively two vertical workspaces on one monitor, and just Windows 7 on the other. The problem occurs with Windows 7 is focussed and I hit Ctrl+Up/Down to switch workspaces. I have to click out of the VM first, which breaks my workflow. Can this be fixed?

  So recently my computer started turning my screen monitors off after a while without activity, if I move the mouse or hit the keyboard they turn back on. I just want them to stay on. My System is windows 8.1 64 bit, I have 2 screens with mini display port and 1 television with hdmi which often is in regular television mode when this issue happens. • How can I fix a computer that is infested with malware and is extremely unresponsive? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I get rid of malicious spyware, malware, viruses or rootkits from my PC? I'm troubleshooting a Windows 7 PC for a friend. A couple of days ago it started running 'slow'. It turns out 'slow' is about 15 minutes to the first glimpse of the desktop, and another 30 to show icons. It is possible to open Task Manager, and nothing seems awry, CPU usage at 1-5%, plenty of memory free. The machine is clearly infested with malware though, in particular a program called 'Optimizer Pro' is demanding money to 'remove 5102 files slowing down my computer'. This seems highly suspicious. My problem is though, that I can't access msconfig (I left it for a couple of hours after having hopefully typed it into the Start Menu and hit enter - nothing seems to have loaded), or anything at all basically. I can boot from a Linux Live CD, but can I actually do anything useful from there? System Restore hasn't fixed it either, and Safe Mode exhibits the same behavior.

• Windows XP Log In: Can't do it. Logon Message popup.

  A friend recommended this site to me. Hope you can help! I can't seem to log into Windows. I boot my computer. The log In screen appears. I put in my user name and password, hit OK, and the following message pops up: "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain name are correct, then type your password again. Letters in your passwords must be typed using the correct case". NOTE: I have tried Safe Mode and the same message pops up. Just to be clear, I am not able to get into Windows (I'm stressing this b/c I've come across some suggestions that require you to be in Windows, which doesn't help in my case). • Reducing the size of the EDB file.

  I have hit an issue on a MS SBS machine where every morning the datastore for the exchange mailboxes dismounts itself. We believe the issue is that it has grown too large over time and needs cut down a bit. As part of this we have removed (purged) some mail files that were no longer needed, which should have given us a saving of roughly 3GB (more than enough saving for what we need). So I deleted the mailboxes, then purged them and noticed that the .edb file was still reporting the same size, I dismounted and remounted it to see if that would have any effect but it did not. Am I missing a step? I have read online that you can run offline defrag on the file but that seems to only save you a small amount of whitespace. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• php read CSV with various amount of delimiters

  I've got a script that reads in from a CSV file and sometimes the CSV files it receives contains an uneven amount of delimiters/columns so the first row could have 30 columns, the 2nd could have 20, etc. I can think of a few solutions myself ie: Count the delimiters in the widest row, then append the proper amount to each row that is short to make them even. But I was wondering if anyone had a more elegant method of doing this.

• Can i change the subnet on the vpn side of a server without having to change its whole lan (to avoid collission)

  Ohai, ive got a xp server with a client connecting via VPN. Problem (as we all know) is that sometimes the subnets clash. Instead of changing the whole server network every time this happens, cant i just have the server appear to have a different subnet to vpn clients? I have no interest in accessing other computers than the server on its LAN. I tried just turning off automatic dhcp in the servers vpn settings and changed it to 172.31.255.x. The client gets the address assigned alright and it can ping 172.31.255.1 but i cannot ping the server name (because the dns on the clients vpn connection points at 192.168.0.1?) wisdom? PS everything worked until the client hit a network with the same subnet as the server lan. thanks
