  • Favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings?

    Stack Overflow has covered favorite short-cuts and add-ins, optimizations and preferences -- great topics all. If this one has been covered, I can't find it -- so thanks in advance for the link. What are your favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings? Mine are motivated by the fact that I'm a touch-typist. Mouse, function keys, arrow keys, Home, End -- bleh. These are commands I do all day every day, so I've remapped them to sequences I can execute without moving my hands from the home row. The command that is remapped in Tools = Customize = [Keyboard] is shown in parentheses. I'm 100% positive that there are better remappings than these, so please post yours!   • How do I track the method the user is looking at in VS 2010 IDE as an Addin

    I have been wandering around the object model for VS 2010 and haven't been able to work out the best method for watching what the user is looking at in the main edit window. I know that each Class/method/property is broken down into its own . What I would ideally like is to hook to an event which says "The user has moved the cursor onto Project.Class.Method" and ideally "and is looking at line 4". Any suggestions?

  • AlarmManager triggers PendingIntent too soon

    I've searched for 3 days now but didn't find a solution or similar problem/question anywhere else. Here is the deal: Trigger in 1 hour - works correct Trigger in 2 hours - Goes of in 1:23 Trigger in 1 day - Goes of in ~11:00 So why is the AlarmManager so unpredictable and always too soon? Or what am I doing wrong? And is there another way so that it could work correctly?     On my joomla wensite the joomla poll extension (down,right) or any other joomla poll only works in Firefox,Safari and all the other browser but not in IE8 or lower versions. I need a poll on my site and 95% of my site visiters use IE8, its fustrating. How can i get any joomla poll to work in IE8 ? Its strange but IE8 displays the poll good,like Firefox, but you can't vote with it ? Is there anyone who can help ? Fred

  • Why am I getting tree conflicts in subversion?

    I had a feature branch of my trunk and was merging changes from my trunk into my branch periodically and everything was working fine. Today I went to merge the branch back down into the trunk and any of the files that were added to my trunk after the creation of my branch were flagged as a "tree conflict". Is there any way to avoid this in the future? I don't think these are being properly flagged. Thanks.

  • Rails. Putting update logic in your migrations

    A couple of times I've been in the situation where I've wanted to refactor the design of some model and have ended up putting update logic in migrations. However, as far as I've understood, this is not good practice (especially since you are encouraged to use your schema file for deployment, and not your migrations). How do you deal with these kind of problems? To clearify what I mean, say I have a User model. Since I thought there would only be two kinds of users, namely a "normal" user and an administrator, I chose to use a simple boolean field telling whether the user was an adminstrator or not. However, after I while I figured I needed some third kind of user, perhaps a moderator or something similar. In this case I add a UserType model (and the corresponding migration), and a second migration for removing the "admin" flag from the user table. And here comes the problem. In the "add_user_type_to_users" migration I have to map the admin flag value to a user type. Additionally, in order to do this, the user types have to exist, meaning I can not use the seeds file, but rather create the user types in the migration (also considered bad practice). For example, I'd like to set it to start at 150, and then I want to set it to drop by 15 every 30 seconds. Is this possible with AJAX/Javascript? If so, could someone point me in the right direction? As far as I know it will serve different page requests. But how long will it live when no new request come in? Is there any timeout (maybe configured through IIS) that says when my app will shut down?

  • Countdown timer using NSTimer in "0:00" format

    I have been researching for days on how to do this and nobody has an answer. I am creating an app with 5 timers on the same view. I need to create a timer that counts down from "15:00" (minutes and seconds), and, another that counts down from "2:58" (minutes and seconds). The 15 minute timer should not repeat, but it should stop all other timers when it reaches "00:00." The "2:58" timer should repeat until the "15:00" or "Game Clock" reaches 0. Right now, I have scrapped almost all of my code and I'm working on the "2:58" repeating timer, or "rocketTimer." Does anyone know how to do this?   • What free tools or strategies can help debug a multi-threading corruption bug?

    I have a client server application with multi-threading. The server side is failing with a std::list getting corrupted resulting in a SEGV. I suspect that there is some kind of cross thread timing issue going on where the two threads are updating the std::list at the same time and causing it to be corrupted.   • Please help with iPhone Memory & Images, memory usage crashing app

    I have an issue with memory usage relating to images and I've searched the docs and watched the videos from cs193p and the iphone dev site on memory mgmt and performance. I've searched online and posted on forums, but I still can't figure it out. The app uses core data and simply lets the user associate text with a picture and stores the list of items in a table view that lets you add and delete items. Clicking on a row shows the image and related text. that's it. Everything runs fine on the simulator and on the device as well. I ran the analyzer and it looked good, so i then starting looking at performance. I ran leaks and everything looked good. My issue is when running Object Allocations as every time i select a row and the view with the image is shown, the live bytes jumps up a few MB and never goes down and my app eventually crashes due to memory usage. Sorting the live bytes column, i see 2 2.72MB mallocs (5.45Mb total), 14 CFDatas (3.58MB total), 1 2.74MB malloc and everything else is real small. the problem is all the related info in instruments is really technical and all the problem solving examples i've seen are just missing a release and nothing complicated. Instruments shows Core Data as the responsible library for all but one (libsqlite3.dylib the other) with [NSSQLCore _prepareResultsFromResultSet:usingFetchPlan:withMatchingRows:] as the caller for all but one (fetchResultSetReallocCurrentRow the other) and im just not sure how to track down what the problem is. i've looked at the stack traces and opened the last instance of my code and found 2 culprits (below).
