[C#] How to consume web service adheres to the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern?

I am following the example from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8wy069k1.aspx to consume a web service implemented (by 3rd party) using the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern. However, my program needs to do multiple calls to the DoStuffAsync() hence will get back as many DoStuffCompleted. I chose the overload which takes an extra parameter - Object userState to distinguish them. My first question is: Is it valid to cast a GUID to Object as below, where GUID is used to generate unique taskID? Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); Secondly, do I need to spawn off a new thread for each DoStuffAsync() call, since I am calling it multiple times? Also, would be nice to have some online examples or tutorials on this subject. (I've been googling for it the whole day and didn't get much back) Many thanks

iphone: accessing the preferences localization file from code

I was just facing the following problem and couldn't find a solution for it. Hopefully someone could help. The app I am working on has some preferences, which are using a localization file. Now I want to use labels in my app, which display the exact names, which are used in the localization file for the preferences. But I couldn't find a way to access the information which is stored in Settings.bundle - en.lproj - localizationfile.strings. to make this clear: If you open your preferences for your app, the display shows the localized string of the title and the value of the setting. I need to access the localized string of the title of each preference from my code. Does any know how to do this?

IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required. I thought this was possible? MSDN says it is: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yh598w02%28VS.80%29.aspx In the MSDN sample code Font is used, which is class and thereby a reference type as well as my two DataContext classes. What went wrong here? How does my attempt differ from the MSDN sample?

According to the MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387314%28v=VS.85%29.aspx) the PFXImportCertStore function imports the cert/key into Base CSP (MS_STRONG_PROV) or Enhanced CSP (MS_ENHANCED_PROV). However, to use RSA/SHA2 signatures, I need to import the key into the Enhanced RSA and AES CSP (MS_ENH_RSA_AES_PROV) and I can't find a way to do it. The documentation mentions "provider name" from the PFX packet, but I can't find any way to set it for a pkcs12 file generated by a 3rd party (e.g. OpenSSL). Thank you in advance.

Opening Large (24 GB) File In C

I'm trying to read in a 24 GB XML file in C, but it won't work. I'm printing out the current position using ftell() as I read it in, but once it gets to a big enough number, it goes back to a small number and starts over, never even getting 20% through the file. I assume this is a problem with the range of the variable that's used to store the position (long), which can go up to about 4,000,000,000 according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3f49ktz%28VS.80%29.aspx, while my file is 25,000,000,000 bytes in size. A long long should work, but how would I change what my compiler(Cygwin/mingw32) uses or get it to have fopen64?

CF - CAB deployment

The cab is created and i can copy it on the device and install the app. What im missing is that on device the application is not present in Programs folder. All i can do is browse to its location in /program files and run it manualy. Can some1 tell me how to: install CAB so it makes a shortcut in programs on device run the application automaticly after it has been installed thanx !

Can Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Web Edition be used in "closed" websites, which are hosted on the Internet, but require users to log in? We are developing a web application for banks. This is a website for clients of the bank; it allows clients to log in and view information on their personal banking accounts, stock portfolios, etc. Can this web app use SQL Server 2008 Web Edition? Here is information on this edition of SQL Server: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/web.aspx It is said on this page that Web Edition can be used only on "public and Internet accessible ... Web applications". Technically, the web app we are developing is public and Internet accessible - although it requires authentication. Won't using Web Edition in our web app violate SQL Server license terms? Thank you.

INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in PHP?

I want to store IP addresses in my database, but I also need to use them throughout my application. I read about using INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in my MySQL queries to get a 32-bit unsigned integer out of an IP address, which is exactly what I want as it will make searching through the database faster than using char(15). The thing is, I can't find a function that does the same sort of thing in PHP. The only thing I came across is: http://php.net/manual/en/function.ip2long.php So I tested it: $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; echo ip2long($ip); And it outputs nothing. In the example they gave it seems to work, but then again I'm not exactly sure if ip2long() does the same thing as INET_ATON(). Does someone know a PHP function that will do this? Or even a completely new solution to storing an IP address in a database? Thanks.

I'm in the process of Moving a project from Visual Studio 2003 to 2005 and have just seen the The event Click is read-only and cannot be changed when using inherited forms regardless of the Modifier on the Base Forms Controls will make all the Controls from the Base Readonly in the designer (Though in 2003 it didn't work this way). As soon as I try to redirect the page in the preRenderView method of the bean (just uncomment the code in the method), using handleNavigation() the bean is created again in the next view instead of using the allready created instance. Although the cid parameter is propagated to the next view ! Has anybody an idea what's wrong ? best regards Thomas

Uninstalling demo/trial of Visual Studio 2008 Team System

I wish to uninstall the trail copy of VS 2008 Team System, as the trial is coming to its end. I had VS 2008 Professional Edition installed on the machine to start with and it still shows up in Add/Remove Problems. I am hoping that when I uninstall VS 2008 Team System I will be left with a working VS 2008 Professional Edition. When I try to uninstall VS 2008 Team System, I very quickly get an error dialog that says: A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components. Canceling setup. Help! Progress or lack there of so fare I have done dir %temp%*.log in a command prompt and can see any log files that are recent I am going to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer#Diagnostic_logging to see if I can get any logging Aaron Stebner's WebLog has a post on where VS put's is log files, he also has a post on were some other products put there log files gives some info about where VS setup puts it's logs etc Aaron Ruckman provided me with the solution after I sent him the log files.
