• Upgrade to 11.10 left me with Kmail not working

  On my way from 10.10 to 12.04 I chose to do the step by step (11.04 then 11.10 then 12.04) because I could not figure if I should do that or a direct install of 12.04LTS. After the first step (11.04) all was well. The next day I upgraded to 11.10. Now I seem to have lost my data in KOrganizer and all of my email history in KMail. KMail still has my email accounts but my tree structure of folders is missing as is all of the emails that should be there. Also, when KMail opens I get the following: KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection. Clicking OK closes KMail. KAlarm appears OK and my browser history is still in place as are various data files. What to do??

  I am in the way of creating a 3D web game using threeJS library. This is a multi-player game that players are 3D human models in game, and I need to add a human 3D model for each player that enters the game. • Youtube controls (sound, etc) not functional in full-screen mode: is that normal?

  When playing youtube videos full-screen, I can't mouse-interact with the player controls, except for the slider (only single-clicking on the video works as play/pause, but not double-click, interestingly, so the only way to leave full-screen mode is via Escape). Is this behavior known? What can I do about it? I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, using Google's Chrome browser. P.S. If that matters, some other flash players I've tried also display the same problem, so this may be an issue with Google-supplied Flash plugin. Thanks in advance.

• Kindle Screen as Informational Display (weather, unread emails, calendar)

  I'm looking to create a type of homepage for my kindle like you might expect to see upon waking up (though realistically, I plan on using it as a secondary screen throughout the day) whereupon it shows you several things dividing the screen, but not being scrollable. I just want the summary to fill the screen of the web browser. It would show the weather my gmail inbox my calendar for the day maybe some tech news However, as a starting question, how would I go about embedding my gmail inbox into the page? I would love to put m.gmail.com into an iframe restricted to a certain portion of the screen, but I know that won't likely be happening. Any ideas on how to embed an email summary or the calendar?   Oke my question is simple, My parents have a windows pc, and have skype on it. and when they are on skype they can go on the internet and still have a small video hovering over their browser and keep doing two thinks. • Would it be possible to make an android app like this?

  I'm fairly new to android development and I'm not sure if the functionality I have in mind for my next project is actually feasible. I wanted to make a simple study guide app...when a user is browsing the web on their phone and they come across information they want to save to their study guide they would be able to highlight the sentence,long-click the highlighted text, and see an option to add it to their study guide(a pop-up list would appear). there would be more functionality than just this, for instance with-in the app you could create different study guide topics (biology,math, English..ect). But in general is it possible to have an app that is accessible by long-clicking when your browsing the web (as opposed to opening the App manually in order to use it.) -- If not, could I make it so you can open a browser within the app to do what I've described? This is going to be a school project so I don't care if it's totally original, I just want to make something simple and practical for practice. -- Thanks in advanced to anyone who helps!! :D

• Files Not Uploading

  So I'm running wordpress. I will make changes to theme files and upload them successfully but none of the changes show up on the actual website. At first I thought it was the wrong theme but I have specific theme files I created that are in there so I'm using the right theme. Then I thought it was a server problem and maybe the companies server are down so I checked a few other websites and updated information just fine. All on linux servers. Then I jumped to Wordpress to make sure it wasn't a wordpress problem but I can update the files fine from their Admin Panel. I checked to make sure it wasn't Filezilla Caches or Browser Caches so I cleared them both. What could be the problem? If it had to deal with the Filezilla client permissions I imagine I would get an error upon uploading but it uploads just fine. Suggestions would be extremely helpful I have no clue.

• Full password not required to access password protected directory?

  I password protected a directory in cPanel. When I went to access the page in my browser, I accidentally hit backspace on the password before I hit enter. Surprisingly, the page still loaded. I played around with it and realized that I could remove the last 4 or 5 characters and the password would still work. Any more than that and it would fail. I'm just curious why this behavior is happening and whether or not it's anything to worry about?

• Ubuntu One Files for Android will not let me log in

  I installed Ubuntu One Files on my Nexus One phone. When I tap Log in on the main screen, the app tries to log in then after a few seconds returns the following message: Log-in failed, please try again later. I have an Ubuntu One account, and when I tap Register on the main screen for Ubuntu One Files, I can log in using my phone's Web browser. But if I go back to the app and try to log in, I get the same error. Again, my phone is a Nexus One running Android 2.3.4. The phone is not rooted or modded in any way.

  Basicly my problem emerges when I try to load Facebook and Yahoomail, I don't know why Both browsers Firefox and Chromium don't load these webpages, but this problem only happen with UBUNTU, when I'm in windows no problem. Note: The other webpages like youtube, gmail etc load without any problem. Lets say I have Site A which doesn't have a good search ranking. If I have a new product that I'm sure could get a good ranking on its own would I get a better search ranking for Site A if I - Add the new product as a new section to Site A. Or put the product on new Site B and link back to Site A. To give you an example if you were developing a few browser plugins would it be better (in terms of ranking) to showcase them all in the same site, or would you give them each their own domain's that link to each other?   I am using the latest Ubuntu OS and up-to-date Chrome browser. Occasionally when I am working at a 5 hour stretch, the computer will freeze up completely and I will have to close down manually and reboot. When this happens I lose the material I have been working on as I cannot save it. And I often receive a notice at this time saying that my profile is not available or that I do not have a profile. I am an Ubuntu user not a technician and do not know what to do about this problem.

  I hope this helps explain the issue I am having I have recently designed a horizontal scrolling portfolio for a client, the rights and wrongs of horizontal web design, is a sligtly seperate topic but alas the client wanted something different. Im having a real issue with the bottom div though As the monitor size is reduced its creating the browser scroll bar down the side as the div image is overlapping the monitor size. Wouldnt be such a huge issue but because of the nature of the horizontal site its producing a diagional scrolling effect. Is there away to prevent the screen expanding from the actual monitor size using css or anyother solution? I'm probably staring at the answer as I type but brain doesnt seem to be working unfortunately.

  Currently, my webpage images use the alt attribute only. Users complain that their IE8 cannot show the "tooltip" bubble when they mouse over the image. On Microsoft's What's New in Internet Explorer 8 page, it says The alt attribute is no longer displayed as the image tooltip when the browser is running in IE8 Standards mode. Instead, the target of the longDesc attribute is used as the tooltip if present; otherwise, the title is displayed. The alt attribute is still used as the Microsoft Active Accessibility name, and the title attribute is used as the fallback name only if alt is not present. I also found that many say title should be used. Which should I use to meet the industrial standard: alt, longdesc or title?

  I am an active user of workspaces in Ubuntu. Until recently, pressing Ctrl+Alt+D (show desktop) acted only on the current workspace. For example, one might want to minimize the applications in the current workspace, open a file, and then bring some of them back. The current implementation works on all workspaces uniformly which is counter-intuitive to me. The reason for the existence of workspaces is the separation of logic -- one can have a browser open in one workspace, a text editor in another, a terminal in a third. The current functionality goes against this idea. Is there a way to restrict the action of the show desktop command to a single workspace only?

• Curl Error 52 Empty reply from server

  Hello I have a cron job setup on one server to run a backup script in PHP that is hosted on another server. The command I've been using is formatted like this: curl -sS http://www.example.com/backup.php Lately I've been getting this error when the Cron runs curl: (52) Empty reply from server I have no idea what this means. If I go to the link directly in my browser the script runs fine and I get my little backup zip file. Can anyone help? Thanks, Paul
