• MVC: On partial page start validation from JS without postback

  How do I start validation from the client/javascript using the MS MVC Validation library? Using MS ASP.Net MVC, I have a page with a PartialView in a modal dialog (change password). When the user selects 'save', I need to validate this on the client side without a full page postback. I am able in JS to post and refresh the partialView, however I am unable to start client validation. The MS MVC validation starts on postback (Input type='submit'). How can I start this in JS? • Keystrokes in Winforms app causing window to close unexpectedly

  I have a strange issue that has arisen recently: Whenever I enter text, even a single character, into a textbox in any Form in my application it causes the form and its parent to close. I've checked for the following so far: Errant/mis-assigned event handlers that may be interpreting a keystroke as a Form cancel I am using keypreview in several windows but debugging shows this to not be a cause Happens in any form of the application Happens even with brand new text boxes dropped on the form Tried removing the WithEvents declaration from text box declarations (VB.NET) The result is DialogResult.Cancel when I break the code after Show or ShowDialog The forms do not use AcceptButton or CancelButton properties (set to none) Note: I am modifying a large codebase with a lot of code that I have yet to touch What else could be causing this strange behavior?

• Team build of Web Projects generates App_web_xxxx.dll files and TFSBuild.Proj Script

  Hi all, I have a web application that has some non-web projects as well. When using Web Deployment, a single assembly is generated for all the aspx.vb files. When using Team Build (TS 2008), a lot number App_Web_xxx.dll file(s) are generated instead of a single assembly. How can i solve this problem and change the TFSBuild.proj file so that it can generate a single Web Assembly instead of a lot number of assemblies. Please help. • Review my ASP.NET Authentication code.

  I have had some problems with authentication in ASP.NET. I'm not used most of the built in authentication in .NET. I gotten some complaints from users using Internet Explorer (any version - may affect other browsers as well) that the login process proceeds but when redirected they aren't authenticated and are bounced back to loginpage (pages that require authentication check if logged in and if not redirect back to loginpage). Can this be a cookie problem? Do I need to check if cookies are enabled by the user? What's the best way to build authentication if you have a custom member table and don't want to use ASP.NET login controls?   I'm trying to perform two-way data binding on the controls in my user control, which is hosted inside a FormView template. I know this because the FormView tries to call an update method on the ObjectDataSource that does not have an argument called 'Title'. I tried to solve this by implementing IBindableTemplate to load the controls that are inside my user control, directly into the templates (just like I had entered them declaratively like in the code above). However, when calling UpdateItem in edit mode, the container that gets passed into the ExtractValues method of the template, does not contain the TextBox anymore. It did in view mode! I have found some questions on SO that relate to this problem but they are rather dated and they don't provide any answers that helped me solve this problem. How do you think I could solve this problem? It seems to be such a simple requirement but apparently it's more like opening a can of worms...

• Pop-up Window was moved but its image still left behind.

  Hi, I'm using VS 2005 and .NET framework 2.0 SP2 to build an application with a datagridview in it. I'm using Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library to do the spelling checker on one of the field in datagridview. When it detected a spelling and grammar window would pop-up open on top of the datagridview. The problem I got was when I moved the pop-up window to the new location, there's still an image of the pop-up window left behind the previous location. The more I moved the more of those copied image would be created on screen. How I can overcome this problem? Thanks in advance, Andrew

• How to prevent MSBUILD from copying dependent GAC assemblies to bin

  I have a msbuild task that builds my solution and I am migrating it from .net 3.5 to 4.0. I have some dependent DLLs that have Local Copy set to true. The 4.0 version of msbuild is not only copying the dependent DLL (which I want), it is also copying all dependent assemblies of that DLL from the 32 bit version of the GAC to my bin. Not only do I not want these files being copied from the GAC, I especially do not want the 32 bit versions for this 64 bit build. Has the behavior changed in msbuild 4.0? And does anyone know how to force msbuild to use the behavior in 3.5?

  I had a little bit of budget left at year end and I wanted to start a little skunk works project to display build status what everyone was working on (our team is aobut 10 folks all told). I am thinking to buy a 47" LCD HD TV and drive it from a small pc via a browser/.NET web application. I was going to build the software over the christmas break since we are closed for 2 weeks starting this Friday. I thought I would solicit advise/feedback on what other teams had done. a lot of the tools we use SVN, Mantis have RSS feeds that I was thinking to render. Is this the way to go ? • Sitecore - Rich Text Editor field is not saving information but instead just copying old information

  We are using Sitecore.NET 5.3.1 (rev. 071114) and we found out a problem. When we are trying to change information in a Rich Text Editor field on the Master database and save the information, this information is not stored and instead the old information appears back into the RTE field. I have been trying this on the Web database on which this is not happening. However, changing this information on the web database feels useless because a publish will just change every information that does not correspond to the data in the Master database in which i just can't edit this field. So I'm having big trouble at this point since this is for one of our bigger customers and they really want this fixxed asap. We (Estate Internet) already have had an open ticket for this problem, but never got the solution. Hope that someone here knows what the problem may be.

• How to organized page specific CSS link tags with spark view pages and application.spark

  I'm currently using ASP.NET MVC 2 and the spark view engine. The main master page (application.spark) contains all of the CSS link tags that need to be present for all pages (global stuff). However, I have some content pages that have page specific CSS tags and currently I'm just sticking the link tag in the body as something like: <content name="MainContent"> <!-- page specific csss --> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/Content/css/page_specific.css" /> My problem is that when the page renders, this tag ends up in the which is not where it needs to be. Is there a solution for this? One idea I had was to check the controller in the Application.spark page and write out which page specific css file is required for that particular controller, however, that solution doesn't seem to scale well and I would imagine there is some way of creating the link in the child page and having it render where it's supposed to by the browser.

Save the excel file as csv.(Using SaveAs XLCSV option) 2. Build a datatable "ABC" From CSV.(using ODBC Connection and Select * from '*'.csv command) 3. copy the datatable"ABC" into database table "xyz" (using sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer()) It works fine without any error but when i checked my database i found that data type for some columns has been changed and hence it didn't copy some of the records.Any help would be appreciated

• Need Users to Re-authenticate with NTLM

  I'm NTLM (authenication="windows" in the web.config) with an asp.net mvc 2.0 site. Right now once a user logs in it keeps them logged in for weeks at a time. The use of the application is being opened up to users who share computers that use logged in service accounts. I need the site to reprompt each user for their AD credentials each time in order to handle these users. (Activity on the site must be linked to a uniquely identified user.)   Recently I've began experimenting with ASP.NET MVC and the Entity Framework. Since my hostingprovider only provides me with MySQL I've been trying to set that up. Locally everything works fine, but after I publish it I get the following error: [ProviderIncompatibleException: The store provider factory type 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlClientFactory' does not implement the IServiceProvider interface. Use a store provider that implements this interface.] Since I'm rather inexperienced with the configuring this and google is lacking a good answer I thought I'd try here. My best guess is something missing in the web.config file, but can't really make out what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• TcpListener.Start() does not open the port

  Hello, I have a class that inherits from the TcpListener, this class Shadows the Start method just to call the base Start() and the base BeginAcceptTcpClient(). From time to time the method is called but the port is not opened (netstat does not show the port open). As the Start() is called without exception I expected to find the port always opened (the log is always written). Extra information: when the Start method works fine it works each time until app is restarted. When the Start method does not work it won't work again until the app is restarted.

• Best strategy for HTML partial rendering based on multiple dropdown values

  I have a View that renders something like this: "Item 1" and "Item 2" are <tr> elements from a table. After the user change "Value 1" or "Value 2" I would like to call a Controller and put the result (some HTML snippet) in the div marked as "Result of...". I have some vague notions of JQuery. I know how to bind to the onchange event of the Select element, and call the $.ajax() function, for example. But I wonder if this can be achieved in a more efficient way in ASP.NET MVC2.

• Default Object being modified because of LINQ Query

  I'm doing the following code to filter a list of objects before it gets sent off to be printed. Dim printList As New List(Of dispillPatient) For Each pat As dispillPatient In patList If (From meds In pat.Medication Select meds Where meds.Print = True).Count > 0 Then Dim patAdd As New dispillPatient patAdd = pat patAdd.Medication = DirectCast((From meds In pat.Medication Select meds Where meds.Print = True).ToList, List(Of dispillMedication)) printList.Add(patAdd) End If Next What is happening is patList, which is my initial list, for every dispillPatient inside of it, that specific patients Medication object (which is another list), is being shorten to the list that is returned to the patAdd object. I think this has something to do with both the way that .NET makes the copy of my pat object when I do patAdd = pat and the LINQ query that I'm using. Has anyone had a similar issue before and\or what can I do to keep my initial list from getting truncated. Thanks

  I am getting the following error on my page: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. The problem is with the following code SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.gmail.com", 587); What's weird is that when testing it at my localhost, everything works fine, but when I put it on my 1and1 web host it generates the error above. I contacted their support and here's their answer. We do check the error logs and the operation require a FullTrust environment which currently fall under restriction on .NET Framewor k What should I do?

  Hi there im trying to degub a dot net nuke server error and im not sure where to start. I dnt have the code locally else I could debug (no that im familiar the dnn setup). This bug affects making cms updates to the site with the message 'A critical error has occured', I have been unsuccessfully trying to find out the cause and im finally throwing up my hands, I dont even need a fix , I just want to find out what is causing the error so I can provide an estimate for a fix and I can even seem to do that. I have tried looking at the logs but nothing seems to be logged about this error, is there a way to turn off custom error handling so as to get some clues as what the cause of this bug is? any suggestions would be welcome as i am getting desperate here :)

• How can I detect client-side when a page load is the result of an AJAX history point?

  I'm trying to prevent a "flicker" effect that is occurring on my ASP.NET page which occurs when a user navigates to the page via the browser back button after having navigated away from it. The reason for the flicker is that I'm using an Update Panel which has some content in there on the initial page-load. As a result, when the page is loaded via a back button that initial content is shown very briefly before it is updated with the correct History-aware data. In order to overcome this I am intending on having the updatepanel hidden (display: none) on inital page load and then show it as long as we don't have any history to deal with. The problem is that I can't find out what to check to determine if there's any history. I can see that the Sys.Application has a _history member but when I'm checking it on page init it is null each time. Does anyone know what I should be checking to determine if there's history to deal with for a page load client-side? And at what point to do it?

• Blackberry Permission Questions - "Prompt" acts differently on different devices

  I have a few questions about permissions and prompts. Most importantly this has to do with making a data connection and using GPS QUESTIONS 1. Prompts & Allow - Remove Notice?: When installing my app (signed) on various devices, some devices prompt the user about making a data connection and some do not (the connection is just made). I check the permissions, and on both devices they are data connection is set to prompt. Why would one device just make a connection and the other requires a prompt? NOTE: both devices are on the same carrier (verision) and and are not restricted by BES. 2. Premission Dialog in Recent Build: In the recent build the user is promted about allowing a data request. In previous version builds this pompt never occured (even though both builds make a data connection that might require a prompt). For the life of me I can't tell what I might have changes that resulted in pompts now occuring. Is there anything I should check in the build/project/files so these prompts wont appear any longer? 3. Set Permissions On Install?: Is there any way to enforce permissions (say to allow) on install of the app? I know I can do invokePermissionsRequest but that will then occur during when running the app. Ideally I'd like to get permissions settled without user involvement or during install. Some facts to note: Developing for 4.2.1 and above Apps are signed Apps make use of data connection and GPS Thanks in advance!

  I'm writing a web crawler for a specific site. The application is a VB.Net Windows Forms application that is not using multiple threads - each web request is consecutive. However, after ten successful page retrievals every successive request times out. It seems strange that it always happens after ten consecutive requests. All the requests are for pages in the same domain. EDIT I added a delay between each web request of between two and seven seconds so that I do not appear to be "hammering" the site or attempting a DOS attack. However, the problem still occurs.

• Elmah on MVC website with WordPress/php sub directory

  I have created a website using ASP.NET MVC and use ELMAH for error handling, this works perfectly. After setting up a virtual directory on my website under /blog and adding the necessary WordPress php files and mysql db, I get the below error come up. Could not load file or assembly 'Elmah' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I think this has something to do with the fact that ELMAH is applying itself to all sub-directories. Is there a way that I can tell ELMAH to ignore everything under /blog? Or is there a way to get around this? Thanks in advance.
