  • Can I run two web servers on the same computer?

    - by Roman
I just found out that I can write a really simple web server using Python. I have already an Apache web server I would like to try the Python based web server on this machine. But I am afraid that I can get some kind of conflict if I try it. I mean how two web server will "decide" who needs to server a request from a client?

  • ValueError: Too Many Values to Unpack Aptana Studio 3

    - by GTyler
I am working on exercise 13 from learnpythonthehardway.org. I should run this code: from sys import argv script, first, second, third = argv print "The script is called:", script print "Your first variable is:", first print "Your second variable is:", second print "Your third variable is:", third Then enter "python ex13.py first 2nd 3rd" on command line. However, I am using Aptana Studio 3 on Vista and I get the "ValueError: too many values to unpack" error. I am new to Python and Aptana so how can I enter the separate arguments here?

  • CheerryPy and concurrency

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I'm using CheeryPy in order to serve a python application through WSGI. I tried benchmarking it, but it seems as if CheeryPy can only handle exactly 10 req/sec. No matter what I do. Built a simple app with a 3 second pause, in order to accurately determine what is going on... and I can confirm that the 10 req/sec has nothing to do with the resources used by the python script. __ Any ideas?

  • Specifics of List Membership

    - by phasetwenty
How does Python (2.6.4, specifically) determine list membership in general? I've run some tests to see what it does: def main(): obj = fancy_obj(arg='C:\\') needle = (50, obj) haystack = [(50, fancy_obj(arg='C:\\')), (1, obj,), needle] print (1, fancy_obj(arg='C:\\'),) in haystack print needle in haystack if __name__ == '__main__': main() Which yields: False True This tells me that Python is probably checking the object references, which makes sense. Is there something more definitive I can look at?

  • How does one go about writing a virtual MIDI interface?

    - by Alex
I want to do some funky things with controlling MIDI streams, and I'd like to be able to pipe MIDI input into an application like Ableton or Reason. Presumably this involves some sort of driver level work? Ultimately I'd like to write my application in Python, so if there is some Python-based solution, I'd consider it. I'm perfectly fine with using C/C++, though, so that's not a problem.

  • tail -f in a webbrowser

    - by compie
I've created a Python script that monitors a logfile for changes (like tail -f) and displays it on a console. I would like to access the output of the Python script in a webbrowser. What would I need to create this? I was thinking about using Django and jQuery. Any tips or examples are greatly appreciated.

    - by Abruzzo Forte e Gentile
Hi All I need to plot a stem plot of my signal using python and matplotlib. I saw the example and the code but the line connecting the black big dot and the x-axis is not a continous line. Do you know whether is possible and how to get a straight line instead? Thank you very much AFG #!/usr/bin/env python from pylab import * x = linspace(0.1, 2*pi, 10) markerline, stemlines, baseline = stem(x, cos(x), '-.') setp(markerline, 'markerfacecolor', 'b') setp(baseline, 'color','r', 'linewidth', 2) show()

  • matplotlib equivalent for MATLABs truesize()

    - by Lucas
I am new to matplotlib and python and would like to display an image so that 1 pixel of the image is actually represented by 1 pixel in the figure. In MATLAB, this is achieved with the command truesize(). How can I do this in Python? I tried playing around with the imshow() arguments as well as set_dpi() and set_figwidth()/set_figheight(), but with no luck. Thanks.

  • What are the latest tools that I can use to write a DSL (Domain-specific language) in 2009 Sep?

    - by servicesxiaodai
I looked into Logix and EasyExtend for Python. Logix hasn't been around for a while and it failed to install on Python 2.6. EasyExtend's tutorial is hopeless, the code in the tutorial doesn't even work. I am looking for something so I can write my DSL. My DSL will be used as a research tool. And I don't want to spend time learning all that parsing and compiler theory.

  • Reading binary data from stdin

    - by thebeav
Is it possible to read stdin as binary data in Python 2.6? If so, how? I see in the Python 3.1 documentation that this is fairly simple, but the facilities for doing this in 2.6 don't seem to be there. If the methods described in 3.1 aren't available, is there a way to close stdin and reopen in in binary mode?

  • C++ Expose Already Existing Instance of Objects to a Scripting Language

    - by user947871
So, I want to be able to modify already instanced C++ objects in a scripting language. I have been looking at Lua with LuaBind and Python with SWIG or Boost::Python, but all I see is how to make new instances of the objects, but I want to modify already existing ones. Example: C++: Player playerOne = new Player(); Scripting Language : playerOne.Transform.x += 5; Is this possible, and if so, wat would you suggest as a good Language/library to achieve this with?

  • See socket options on existing sockets created by other apps?

    - by nailer
I'd like to test whether particular socket options have been set on an existing socket. Ie, pretty much everything you can see in: #!/usr/bin/env python '''See possible TCP socket options''' import socket sockettypelist = [x for x in dir(socket) if x.startswith('SO_')] sockettypelist.sort() for sockettype in sockettypelist: print sockettype Anyone know how I can see the options on existing sockets, ie those created by other processes? Alas nearly all the documentation I read on Python socket programming is about making new sockets.

  • SQL SERVER – #TechEdIn – Presenting Tomorrow on Speed Up! – Parallel Processes and Unparalleled Performance at TechEd India 2012

    - by pinaldave
Performance tuning is always a very hot topic when it is about SQL Server. SQL Server Performance Tuning is a very challenging subject that requires expertise in Database Administration and Database Development. I always have enjoyed talking about SQL Server Performance tuning subject. However, in India, it’s actually the very first time someone is presenting on this interesting subject, so this time I had the biggest challenge to present this session. Frequently enough, we get these two kind of questions: How to turn off parallelism as it is reducing performance? How to turn on parallelism as I want more performance? The reality is that not everyone knows what exactly is needed by their system. In this session, I have attempted to answer this very question. I’ve decided to provide a balanced view but stay away from theory, which leads us to say “It depends”. The session will have a clear message about this towards its end. Deck Details Slides: 45+ Demos: 7+ Bonus Quiz: 5 Images: 10+ Session delivery time: 52 Mins + 8 Mins of Q & A I have presented this session a couple of times to my friends and so far have received good feedback. Oftentimes, when people hear that I am going to present 45 slides, they all say it is too much to cover. However, when I am done with the session the usual reaction is that I truly gave justice to those slides. Action Item Here are a few of the action items for all of those who are going to attend this session: If you want to attend the session, just come early. There’s a good chance that you may not get a seat because right before me, there is a session from SQL Guru Vinod Kumar. He performs a powerful delivery of million concepts in just a little time. Quiz. I will be asking few questions during the session as well as before the session starts. If you get the correct answer, I will give unique learning material for you. You may not want to miss this learning opportunity at any cosst. Session Details Title: Speed Up! – Parallel Processes and Unparalleled Performance (Add to Calendar) Abstract: “More CPU, More Performance” – A  very common understanding is that usage of multiple CPUs can improve the performance of the query. To get a maximum performance out of any query, one has to master various aspects of the parallel processes. In this deep-dive session, we will explore this complex subject with a very simple interactive demo. Attendees will walk away with proper understanding of CX_PACKET wait types, MAXDOP, parallelism threshold and various other concepts. Date and Time: March 23, 2012, 12:15 to 13:15 Location: Hotel Lalit Ashok - Kumara Krupa High Grounds, Bengaluru – 560001, Karnataka, India.
