  • NSLinguisticTagger on the contents of an NSTextStorage- crashing bug

    I'm trying to use an NSLinguisticTagger to monitor the contents of an NSTextStorage and provide some contextual information based on what the user types. To that end, I have an OverlayManager object, which wires up this relationship: -(void) setView:(NSTextView*) view { _view = view; _layout = view.layoutManager; _storage = view.layoutManager.textStorage; //get the TextStorage from the view [_tagger setString:_storage.string]; //pull the string out, this grabs the mutable version [self registerForNotificationsOn:self->_storage]; //subscribe to the willProcessEditing notification } When an edit occurs, I make sure to trap it and notify the tagger (and yes, I know I'm being annoyingly inconsistent with member access, I'm rusty on Obj-C, I'll fix it later): - (void) textStorageWillProcessEditing:(NSNotification*) notification{ if ([self->_storage editedMask] & NSTextStorageEditedCharacters) { NSRange editedRange = [self->_storage editedRange]; NSUInteger delta = [self->_storage changeInLength]; [_tagger stringEditedInRange:editedRange changeInLength:delta]; //should notify the tagger of the changes [self highlightEdits:self]; } } The highlightEdits message delegates the job out to a pool of "Overlay" objects. Each contains a block of code similar to this: [tagger enumerateTagsInRange:range scheme:NSLinguisticTagSchemeLexicalClass options:0 usingBlock:^(NSString *tag, NSRange tokenRange, NSRange sentenceRange, BOOL *stop) { if (tag == PartOfSpeech) { [self applyHighlightToRange:tokenRange onStorage:storage]; } }]; And that's where the problem is- the enumerateTagsInRange method crashes out with a message: 2014-06-04 10:07:19.692 WritersEditor[40191:303] NSMutableRLEArray replaceObjectsInRange:withObject:length:: Out of bounds This problem doesn't occur if I don't link to the mutable copy of the underlying string and instead do a [[_storage string] copy], but obviously I don't want to copy the entire backing store every time I want to do tagging. This all should be happening in the main run loop, so I don't think this is a threading issue. The NSRange I'm enumerating tags on exists both in the NSTextStorage and in the NSLinguisticTagger's view of the string. It's not even the fact that the applyHighlightToRange call adds attributes to the string, because it crashes before even reaching that line.   • Challenges w.r.t. proximity between application hosted outside Amazon and Amazon persistence service

    Hello. This is about hosting a web portal. Earlier my topology was entirely based on Amazon AWS but the price factor (especially for EC2) now makes me re-think. I'll now quickly come to what I have finally arrived at. I'll launch the portal that'll be hosted on Godaddy (unlimited plan on Windows). The portal uses SimpleDB for storing metadata and S3 for blobs. Locally available MySQL will be used for the ASP.Net provider services. Once the portal is profitable, I intent to move to Amazon in totality. Now considering the proximity between Godaddy & Amazon, would I face 'substantial' performance problems? Are there any suggestions to improve upon my topology.

    Using WSS 3.0, we have noticed that while users can be restricted to access only certain sub-sites of a site collection through permission settings, the same doesn't seem to be true for web services, such as /_vti_bin/Lists.asmx! Here's our experimental setup: http://formal/test : 'test' site collection - site1 : first site in test site collection, user1 is member - site2 : second site in test site collection, user2 is member With this setup, using a web browser user2 can: - access http://formal/test/site2/Default.aspx - cannot access http://formal/test/site1/Default.aspx That's what is expected. To our surprise however, using the code below, user2 can retrieve the names of the lists in site1, something he should not have access to! Is that by (unfortunate) design, or is there a configuration setting we've missed that would prevent user2 from retrieving the names of lists in site1? Is this going to be different in SharePoint 2010?   • .Net 2.0 ServiceController.GetServices()

    I've got a website that has windows authentication enable on it. From a page in the website, the users have the ability to start a service that does some stuff with the database. It works fine for me to start the service because I'm a local admin on the server. But I just had a user test it and they can't get the service started. My question is: Does anyone know of a way to get a list of services on a specified computer by name using a different windows account than the one they are currently logged in with? I really don't want to add all the users that need to start the service into a windows group and set them all to a local admin on my IIS server.....   • Virus cleanup; Windows Automatic Updates service crashes in esent.dll

    Background I'm doing system recovery on an old WinXP SP1 system brought to me on suspicion of virus infection. After taking preliminary backups, I used MalwareBytes to detect and clean the infection. I might've even gotten it all. In the process, I've discovered (a) the system drive is showing signs of impending failure, and (b) the owner has been using the system's old crusty IE-6 instead of the up-to-date Firefox I've provided for him. So naturally, thinking I had a relatively stable system, I tried to hit the Windows Update site to install IE-8, in case further training doesn't stick. The update site told me it needed to update the installer, and I started that process. Soon after, wuauclt.exe started crashing, reporting addresses in module esent.dll. There's a Microsoft KB (910437) on a problem with that DLL, so I downloaded the hotfix and installed. The crashing did not stop. I attempted to install SP3 from the offline installer, but that didn't fix the issue either. The system is reporting a few hard drive / IDE controller errors, but they don't correlate to the crashes, so they aren't the direct cause. I've also attempted to rollback to the time between the infection removal and the first crashes, but that doesn't help. Question The hotfix I tried to install dealt with problem in transaction logs of the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database. I suspect this issue is similar, but that the database itself (whatever the ESE database is) is corrupted. Is there a way to clean or clear this database so that system operation returns to normal? Can someone enlighten me as to what the ESE database actually is, and where it resides? Can I just locate some files and delete them to bring this under control?

  • Animating a pulsing UILabel?

[self setFadeTimer:[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1 target:self selector:@selector(timerFlash:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]]; Firstly I am not sure of my method, my plan (as you can see above) was to set up a animation block and call it using a repeating NSTimer until canceled. My second problem (as you can see above) is that I am animating from black (alpha 0) to white (alpha 1) but I don't know how to animate back to black again so the animation loops seamlessly Essentially what I want is the text color to pulse on a UILabel until the user presses a button to continue. EDIT_001: I was getting into trouble because you can't animate [UILabel setColor:] you can however animated [UILabel setAlpha:] so I am going to give that a go.   • UINavigation Bar while moving view for writing in a textfield

    i'm using this code to move the view when i'm about to type on a textfield, otherwise the keyboard may cover the textfield if it's in the lower side of the screen. I would like to know if there is a way to maintain the UINavigation Bar in it's place, because with this code the bar will move with all the view outside the screen, becoming untouchable until i end editing the textfield (closing the keyboard).   • Lenovo ThinkPad: What does the PWMDBSVC.exe service do? It's writing a C:\Log.txt file.

    I found a file that keeps popping up in my C:\ drive root, Log.txt ... after installing Process Monitor and seeing what process was writing to it, I came across PWMDBSVC.exe, which appears to be part of the Lenovo ThinkPad software. Even if I delete it, I can get it to re-create the Log.txt when I lock and unlock my workstation. Does anybody know what this software does and whether it is safe to disable? I searched Google already and got the usual pile of useless hits on the process name but nothing seemingly definitive!

  • iPhone: Can't animate contentInset while animating Nav Bar show/hide

    In my app, I have a table view. When the user clicks a button, a UIView overlays part of that table view. It's essentially a partial modal. That table view is intentionally still scrollable while that modal is active. To allow the user to scroll to the bottom of the table view, I change the contentInset and scrollIndicatorInsets values to adjust for the smaller area above the modal. When the modal is taken away, I reset those inset values. The problem is that when the user has scrolled to the bottom of the newly adjusted inset and then dismisses the modal, the table view jumps abruptly to a new scroll position because the inset is changed instantly. I would like to animate it so there is a transition, but the beginAnimation/commitAnimations methods aren't affecting it for some reason. Edit: More info. I found the conflict. When presenting the modal, I also hide the navigation bar. The navigation bar natively animates the table view up and down as it shows and hides. When I stop animating the navigation bar, the inset animation works fine. Does anyone know what I can do to work around this conflict? Do I have to wait for the navigation bar animation to finish before adjusting the inset? If so, how to I hook onto that? Any help is greatly appreciated!     I am using a custum UITableViewCell , which has some labels , buttons imageviews to be displayed.There is one label in the cell whose text is a NSString object and the length of string could be variable , due to this i cannot set a constant height to the cell in UITableViews : heightForCellAtIndex method.The ceels height depends on the labels height , whcich can be determined using the NSStrings sizeWithFont method . i tried using it , but looks like i m going wrong somewhere .   • iOS: Gesture recogniser for smooth scrolling and flicking a View

    I am building an iPad app where I needed to allow resizing views functionality using divider view provided between two views. This divider view is just a 20px height view between two half screen content views - please refer attached images. When user scrolls this divider view up or down, both content views changes their sizes appropriately. I have extended UIView and implemented this using touchMoved delegate as code given below in touchesMoved delegate. It works fine. The only thing is missing with TouchMoved is you can't flick divider view to top or bottom directly. You have to scroll all the way to top or bottom! To support flicking the view I have tried UIPanGestureRecognizer but I don't see smooth scrolling with it. When I handle split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateChanged state, just touching divider view flick it to top or bottom. Handling split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateEnded does the same but I don't see content view resizing with dividerview scrolling! Could someone please tell me how could I achieve both smooth scrolling of divider view with resizing content views(like touchMoved) and flicking the view. Any alternative approach would also fine.   • iPhone: Grouped tables and navigation controller issues

    Hi there, I've set up a grouped table on my app, and pushing to new views works fine. Except for one thing. The titles and stack layout are all weird. Here's the breakdown: I have two sections in my table. When I tap on the first row in the first section, it takes me to the correct view, but the title of the new view is the name of the first row in the second section of the table. In turn, the second row in the first section's title is the second row in the second section's title. If I tap on the second row in the second section of the root view table, the navigation button goes to the second row in the first section of the table. So here's a diagram of my table: Table Section 1 Row 1 Row 2 Row 3 Table Section 2 Row A Row B Row C So if I tap on row 3, the title of the pushed view is Row C. The navigation button tells me to go back to Row 3, then eventually ending up at the root view.   • Is dependency injection only for service type objects and singletons? (and NOT for gui?)

    I'm currently experimenting with the Google's guice inversion of control container. I previously had singletons for just about any service (database, active directory) my application used. Now I refactored the code: all the dependencies are given as parameters to constructors. So far, so good. Now the hardest part is with the graphical user interface. I face this problem: I have a table (JTable) of products wrapped in an ProductFrame. I give the dependencies as parameters (EditProductDialog). @Inject public ProductFrame(EditProductDialog editProductDialog) { // ... } // ... @Inject public EditProductDialog(DBProductController productController, Product product) { // ... } The problem is that guice can't know what Product I have selected in the table, so it can't know what to inject in the EditProductDialog. Dependency Injection is pretty viral (if I modify one class to use dependency injection I also need to modify all the other classes it interacts with) so my question is should I directly instantiate EditProductDialog? But then I would have to pass manually the DBProductController to the EditProductDialog and I will also need to pass it to the ProductFrame and all this boils down to not using dependency injection at all. Or is my design flawed and because of that I can't really adapt the project to dependecy injection? Give me some examples of how you used dependency injection with the graphical user interface. All the examples found on the Internet are really simple examples where you use some services (mostly databases) with dependency injection.

  • Quick and dirty user management service for Linux VMs?

    Background I have a home server running Debian, and a workstation that runs various VirtualBox VMs (mostly Linuxen but some Windows). At the moment, I'm creating my main user account anew for every new Linux VM. I'd like to make use of a centralized user-management scheme instead, so I can just configure the new VMs for the directory technology and let them handle user lookups automatically. The last time I worked with anything like this, NIS+ was still in fashion. I have a vague notion of what LDAP and Active Directory are, but no knowledge of how to configure them for what I want. Question What user-management/network-directory technology should I use for providing user accounts to my network? The server must run on Debian Lenny. Client configuration should be simple point-at-server-and-go. I need an example configuration for one sample user account. (nice-to-have) I may want to mount the user's home directory from the server. (nice-to-have) The same configuration works with Windows clients.

Is anyone aware of any services that will be able to do bulk conversions of these documents to PDF? Any services that will also provide thumbnails for the documents is something we're looking for as well.
