    I get this error when attempting to debug my form, I cannot see where at all the error could be (also does not highlight where), anyone have any suggestions? An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. • Parsing CSV: how can NSScanner recognize empty field (i.e. ,,)?

    - by Fabrizio Prosperi
    I am very new to Xcode and trying - as millions - to parse a CSV file. I have read many contributions and I am managing it but I have a problem when my NSScanner intercepts an empty field: "Field_A, Field_B,, Field_D". I guess it is because it ignores empty space by default, or in this case no space at all. String is: "Personal","2011-01-01","Personal","Cigarettes",,4.60,"Cash","", I tried to debug it using scanLocation: 2011-04-22 15:57:32.414 Spending[42015:a0f] Before while...scan location is:0 2011-04-22 15:57:32.414 Spending[42015:a0f] Account: "Personal" - scan location is:10 2011-04-22 15:57:32.415 Spending[42015:a0f] Date: "2011-01-01" - scan location is:23 2011-04-22 15:57:32.415 Spending[42015:a0f] Category: "Personal" - scan location is:34 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Subcategory: "Cigarettes" - scan location is:47 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Income: 4.600000 - scan location is:53 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Expense: 0.000000 - scan location is:53 2011-04-22 15:57:32.417 Spending[42015:a0f] Payment: "Cash" - scan location is:60 2011-04-22 15:57:32.417 Spending[42015:a0f] Note: "" - scan location is:63 And as you can see after that even expense field gets no value (should be 4.60). Here is the relevant piece of code: NSScanner *scanner = [NSScanner scannerWithString:fileString]; [scanner setCharactersToBeSkipped: [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"\n, "]]; NSString *account, *date, *category, *subcategory, *payment, *note; float income, expense; // Set up data delimiter using comma NSCharacterSet *commaSet; commaSet = [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@","]; NSLog (@"Before while...scan location is:%d\n", scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&account]; NSLog(@"Account: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",account, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&date]; NSLog(@"Date: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",date, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&category]; NSLog(@"Category: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",category, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&subcategory]; NSLog(@"Subcategory: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",subcategory, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanFloat:&income]; NSLog(@"Income: %f - scan location is:%d\n",income, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanFloat:&expense]; NSLog(@"Expense: %f - scan location is:%d\n",expense, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&payment]; NSLog(@"Payment: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",payment, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&note]; NSLog(@"Note: %@\n - scan location is:%d",note, scanner.scanLocation); I tried looking carefully through NSScanner Class Reference, but could not get an idea? Do you have any? Thanks, Fabrizio.

  • Yii file upload issue

    - by user1289853
    Couple of months ago,I developed a simple app using YII,one of the feature was to upload file. The feature was working well in my dev machine,couple of days ago client found the file upload feature is not working in his server since deployment. And after that I test my dev machine that was not working too. My controller looks: public function actionEntry() { if (!Yii::app()->user->isGuest) { $model = new TrackForm; if (isset($_POST['TrackForm'])) { $entry = new Track; try { $entry->product_image = $_POST['TrackForm']['product_image']; $entry->product_image = CUploadedFile::getInstance($model, 'product_image'); if ($entry->save()) { if ($entry->product_image) { $entry->product_image->saveAs($entry->product_image->name, '/trackshirt/uploads'); } } $this->render('success', array('model' => $model)); // redirect to success page } } catch (Exception $e) { echo 'Caught exception: ', $e->getMessage(), "\n"; } } else { $this->render('entry', array('model' => $model)); } } } Model is like below: <?php class Track extends CActiveRecord { public static function model($className=__CLASS__) { return parent::model($className); } public function tableName() { return 'product_details'; } } My view looks: <?php $form = $this->beginWidget('CActiveForm', array( 'id' => 'hide-form', 'enableClientValidation' => true, 'clientOptions' => array( 'validateOnSubmit' => true, ), 'htmlOptions' => array('enctype' => 'multipart/form-data'), )); ?> <p class="auto-style2"><strong>Administration - Add New Product</strong></p> <table align="center" style="width: 650px"><td class="auto-style3" style="width: 250px">Product Image</td> <td> <?php echo $form->activeFileField($model, 'product_image'); ?> </td> </tr> </table> <p class="auto-style1"> <div style="margin-leftL:-100px;"> <?php echo CHtml::submitButton('Submit New Product Form'); ?> </div> <?php $this->endWidget(); ?> Any idea where is the problem?I tried to debug it but every time it returns Null. Thanks.

  • Large transactions causing "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired" error?

    - by Michael
    My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read comments about increasing the timeout period but I've also read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application. I'll provide the code I'm working with and there is an IF statement in there that I was a little iffy about but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I'll just go over what's going on here, there is a list of objects to update or add into the database. New objects created in the application are given an ID of 0 while existing objects have their own ID's generated from the DB. If the user chooses to delete some objects, their IDs are stored in a separate list of Integers. Once the user is ready to save their changes, the two lists are passed into this method. By use of the IF statement, objects with ID of 0 are added (using the Add stored procedure) and those objects with non-zero IDs are updated (using the Update stored procedure). After all this, a FOR loop goes through all the integers in the "removal" list and uses the Delete stored procedure to remove them. A transaction is used for all this. Public Shared Sub UpdateSomethings(ByVal SomethingList As List(Of Something), ByVal RemovalList As List(Of Integer)) Using DBConnection As New SqlConnection(conn) DBConnection.Open() Dim MyTransaction As SqlTransaction MyTransaction = DBConnection.BeginTransaction() Try For Each SomethingItem As Something In SomethingList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand() MyCommand.Connection = DBConnection If SomethingItem.ID > 0 Then MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Else MyCommand.CommandText = "AddSomething" End If MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters If MyCommand.CommandText = "UpdateSomething" Then .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = SomethingItem.ID End If .Add("@stuff", SqlDbType.Varchar).Value = SomethingItem.Stuff End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next For Each ID As Integer In RemovalList Using MyCommand As New SqlCommand("DeleteSomething", DBConnection) MyCommand.Transaction = MyTransaction MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With MyCommand.Parameters .Add("@id", SqlDbType.Int).Value = ID End With MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using Next MyTransaction.Commit() Catch ex As Exception MyTransaction.Rollback() 'Exception handling goes here End Try End Using End Sub There are three stored procedures used here as well as some looping so I can see how something can be holding everything up if the list is large enough. Other users can log in to the system at the same time just fine though. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 to debug and am using SQL Server 2000 for the DB.

  • Could not load file or assembly ... or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a progra

    - by Dan
    I am getting the following error message when compiling or attempting to run my application on Windows 7 64 bit. I've scoured the internet and many people have the same error message however none of the solutions address my problem or situation. Using VS 2010. Error 38 Could not load file or assembly 'file:///D:/Projects/Windows Projects/Weld/Components/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/bin/x86/Debug/FileAttaching.dll' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Line 1212, position 5. D:\Projects\Windows Projects\Weld\Weld\Weld.UI\frmMain.resx 1212 5 Weld.UI Ok, so I have 2 projects a UI project and a FileAttachment project. UI project has a reference to FileAttachment project. When I compile UI project in "Any CPU" mode everything works fine and it runs. I assume 'Any CPU' will run in 64bit mode when I compile as that is the platform I am using. I want to run/compile as x86 so I try to do that, so I change configuration for all projects to x86 and verify that these configurations are compiling to x86. I compile and get the error as stated above. I find it odd that it compiles and works fine in 64bit but not 32bit. However when compiled and deployed to users as 'Any CPU', if these users have x86 it still works for them no problem. I just can't compile or run as x86 on my PC. Again, I can compile as Any CPU and deploy to a 32bit PC no problem. Neither project are referencing any 64bit only dlls. Both projects are verified to be targetting 32bit dll's and .NET Framework assemblies. I need to compile and run this locally under 32bit mode. I need JIT edit/continue among other things. Here is the line of code in the resx file that is causing the problem: </data> <data name="Appearance17.Image" type="System.Drawing.Bitmap, System.Drawing" mimetype="application/x-microsoft.net.object.bytearray.base64"> <value> The resx file is verified to be generated for .NET 2.0 amnd is only referencing .NET 2.0 assemblies and not .NET 4.0 versions. Any ideas here? I've searched the net and have found hundreds of people with the same error message but a different problem.

  • Accesing server control from withing app_code class

    - by OverSeven
    My question is about how to acces a server control (listbox) that is located in default.aspx. I wish to acces this control in Functions.cs (this class is located in the App_Code folder). My page structures: - 1 masterpage with 1 content holder - Default.aspx (all the controls are within the content place holder) - Functions.cs (located in App_Code) Now when i try to fill up the listbox elements i get the error "object reference not set to an instance of an object." What i have tried to gain acces to this control: (this code is located in Functions.cs in App_Code). This is basicly showing some items in the listbox that are located in the xml file private static string file = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/Questions.xml"); public static void ListItems() { XmlDocument XMLDoc = new XmlDocument(); XMLDoc.Load(file); XPathNavigator nav = XMLDoc.CreateNavigator(); XPathExpression expr; expr = nav.Compile("/root/file/naam"); XPathNodeIterator iterator = nav.Select(expr); //ATTEMPT to get acces to ServerControl(listbox) Page page = (Page)HttpContext.Current.Handler; ListBox test = (ListBox)page.FindControl("lbTest"); //control is called lbTest in Default.aspx test.Items.Clear(); while (iterator.MoveNext()) { test.Items.Add(iterator.Current.Value); } } Code from the default.apx file <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterFile.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="default.aspx.cs" Inherits="default" Debug="true" %> <%@ MasterType TypeName="Master" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphContent" Runat="Server" > <asp:MultiView ID="mvTest" runat="server" > <asp:View ID="vCollection" runat="server"> <asp:ListBox ID="lbTest" runat="server" CssClass="listbox" ></asp:ListBox> </asp:View> </asp:MultiView> </asp:Content> The masterfile itself just has 1 placeholder. Then i call upon the funcion ListItems in the Default.aspx.cs file protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Functions.ListItems(); } Regards.

  • ob_start() -> ob_flush() doesn't work

    - by MB34
    I am using ob_start()/ob_flush() to, hopefully, give me some progress during a long import operation. Here is a simple outline of what I'm doing: <?php ob_start (); echo "Connecting to download Inventory file.<br>"; $conn = ftp_connect($ftp_site) or die("Could not connect"); echo "Logging into site download Inventory file.<br>"; ftp_login($conn,$ftp_username,$ftp_password) or die("Bad login credentials for ". $ftp_site); echo "Changing directory on download Inventory file.<br>"; ftp_chdir($conn,"INV") or die("could not change directory to INV"); // connection, local, remote, type, resume $localname = "INV"."_".date("m")."_".date('d').".csv"; echo "Downloading Inventory file to:".$localname."<br>"; ob_flush(); flush(); sleep(5); if (ftp_get($conn,$localname,"INV.csv",FTP_ASCII)) { echo "New Inventory File Downloaded<br>"; $datapath = $localname; ftp_close($conn); } else { ftp_close($conn); die("There was a problem downloading the Inventory file."); } ob_flush(); flush(); sleep(5); $csvfile = fopen($datapath, "r"); // open csv file $x = 1; // skip the header line $line = fgetcsv($csvfile); $y = (feof($csvfile) ? 2 : 5); while ((!$debug) ? (!feof($csvfile)) : $x <= $y) { $x++; $line = fgetcsv($csvfile); // do a lot of import stuff here with $line ob_flush(); flush(); sleep(1); } fclose($csvfile); // important: close the file ob_end_clean(); However, nothing is being output to the screen at all. I know the data file is getting downloaded because I watch the directory where it is being placed. I also know that the import is happening, meaning that it is in the while loop, because I can monitor the DB and records are being inserted. Any ideas as to why I am not getting output to the screen?

  • Socket Programming : Inputstream Stuck in loop - read() always return 0

    - by Atom Skaa ska Hic
    Server side code public static boolean sendFile() { int start = Integer.parseInt(startAndEnd[0]) - 1; int end = Integer.parseInt(startAndEnd[1]) - 1; int size = (end - start) + 1; try { bos = new BufferedOutputStream(initSocket.getOutputStream()); bos.write(byteArr,start,size); bos.flush(); bos.close(); initSocket.close(); System.out.println("Send file to : " + initSocket); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println(e.getLocalizedMessage()); disconnected(); return false; } return true; } Client Side public boolean receiveFile() { int current = 0; try { int bytesRead = bis.read(byteArr,0,byteArr.length); System.out.println("Receive file from : " + client); current = bytesRead; do { bytesRead = bis.read(byteArr, current, (byteArr.length-current)); if(bytesRead >= 0) current += bytesRead; } while(bytesRead != -1); bis.close(); bos.write(byteArr, 0 , current); bos.flush(); bos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println(e.getLocalizedMessage()); disconnected(); return false; } return true; } Client side is multithreading,server side not use multithreading. I just paste some code that made problem if you want see all code please tell me. After I debug the code, I found that if I set max thread to any and then the first thread always stuck in this loop. That bis.read(....) always return 0. Although, server had close stream and it not get out of the loop. I don't know why ... But another threads are work correctly. do { bytesRead = bis.read(byteArr, current, (byteArr.length-current)); if(bytesRead >= 0) current += bytesRead; } while(bytesRead != -1);

  • Not seeing Sync Block in Object Layout

    - by bob-bedell
    It's my understanding the all .NET object instances begin with an 8 byte 'object header': a synch block (4 byte pointer into a SynchTableEntry table), and a type handle (4 byte pointer into the types method table). I'm not seeing this in VS 2010 RC's (CLR 4.0) debugger memory windows. Here's a simple class that will generate a 16 byte instance, less the object header. class Program { short myInt = 2; // 4 bytes long myLong = 3; // 8 bytes string myString = "aString"; // 4 byte object reference // 16 byte instance static void Main(string[] args) { new Program(); return; } } An SOS object dump tells me that the total object size is 24 bytes. That makes sense. My 16 byte instance plus an 8 byte object header. !DumpObj 0205b660 Name: Offset_Test.Program MethodTable: 000d383c EEClass: 000d13f8 Size: 24(0x18) bytes File: C:\Users\Bob\Desktop\Offset_Test\Offset_Test\bin\Debug\Offset_Test.exe Fields: MT Field Offset Type VT Attr Value Name 632020fc 4000001 10 System.Int16 1 instance 2 myInt 632050d8 4000002 4 System.Int64 1 instance 3 myLong 631fd2b8 4000003 c System.String 0 instance 0205b678 myString Here's the raw memory: 0x0205B660 000d383c 00000003 00000000 0205b678 00000002 ... And here are some annotations: offset 0 000d383c ;TypeHandle (pointer to MethodTable), 4 bytes offset 4 00000003 00000000 ;myLong, 8 bytes offset 12 0205b678 ;myString, 4 byte reference to address of "myString" on GC Heap offset 16 00000002 ;myInt, 4 bytes My object begins a address 0x0205B660. But I can only account for 20 bytes of it, the type handle and the instance fields. There is no sign of a synch block pointer. The object size is reported as 24 bytes, but the debugger is showing that it only occupies 20 bytes of memory. I'm reading Drill Into .NET Framework Internals to See How the CLR Creates Runtime Objects, and expected the first 4 bytes of my object to be a zeroed synch block pointer, as shown in Figure 8 of that article. Granted, this is an article about CLR 1.1. I'm just wondering if the difference between what I'm seeing and what this early article reports is a change in either the debugger's display of object layout, or in the way the CLR lays out objects in versions later than 1.1. Anyway, can anyone account for my 4 missing bytes?

  • Solution Output Directory

    - by L.E.O
    The project that I'm currently working on is being developed by multiple teams where each team is responsible for different part of the project. They all have set up their own C# projects and solutions with configuration settings specific to their own needs. However, now we need to create another, global solution, which will combine and build all projects into the same output directory. The problem that I have encountered though, is that I have found only one way to make all projects build into the same output directory - I need to modify configurations for all of them. That is what we would like to avoid. We would prefer that all these projects had no knowledge about this "global" solution. Each team must retain possibility to work just with their own sub-solution. One possible workaround is to create a special configuration for all projects just for this "global" solution, but that could create extra problems since now you have to constantly sync this configuration settings with the regular one, used by that specific team. Last thing we want to do is to spend hours trying to figure out why something doesn't work when building under global solution just because of some check box that developers have checked in their configuration, but forgot to do so in the global configuration. So, to simplify, we need some sort of output directory setting or post build event that would only be present when building from that global, all-inclusive solution. Is there any way to achieve this without changing something in projects configurations? Update 1: Some extra details I guess I need to mention: We need this global solution to be as close as possible to what the end user gets when he installs our application, since we intend to use it for debugging of the entire application when we need to figure out which part of the application isn't working before sending this bug to the team working on that part. This means that when building under global solution the output directory hierarchy should be the same as it would be in Program Files after installation, so that if, for example, we have Program Files/MyApplication/Addins folder which contains all the addins developed by different teams, we need the global solution to copy the binaries from addins projects and place them in the output directory accordingly. The thing is, the team developing an addin doest necessary know that it is an addin and that it should be placed in that folder, so they cannot change their relative output directory to be build/bin/Debug/Addins.

  • How do you return a string from a function correctly in Dynamic C?

    - by aquanar
    I have a program I am trying to debug, but Dynamic C apparently treats strings differently than normal C does (well, character arrays, anyway). I have a function that I made to make an 8 character long (well, 10 to include the \0 ) string of 0s and 1s to show me the contents of an 8-bit char variable. (IE, I give it the number 13, it returns the string "0001101\0" ) When I use the code below, it prints out !{happy face] 6 times (well, the second one is the happy face alone for some reason), each return comes back as 0xDEAE or "!\x02. I thought it would dereference it and return the appropriate string, but it appears to just be sending the pointer and attempting to parse it. This may seem silly, but my experience was actually in C++ and Java, so going back to C brings up a few issues that were dealt with in later programming languages that I'm not entirely sure how to deal with (like the lack of string variables). How could I fix this code, or how would be a better way to do what I am trying to do (I thought maybe sending in a pointer to a character array and working on it from the function might work, but I thought I should ask to see if maybe I'm just trying to reinvent the wheel). Currently I have it set up like this: this is an excerpt from the main() display[0] = '\0'; for(i=0;i<6;i++) { sprintf(s, "%s ", *char_to_bits(buffer[i])); strcat(display, s); } DispStr(8,5, display); and this is the offending function: char *char_to_bits(char x) { char bits[16]; strcpy(bits,"00000000\0"); if (x & 0x01) bits[7]='1'; if (x & 0x02) bits[6]='1'; if (x & 0x04) bits[5]='1'; if (x & 0x08) bits[4]='1'; if (x & 0x10) bits[3]='1'; if (x & 0x20) bits[2]='1'; if (x & 0x40) bits[1]='1'; if (x & 0x80) bits[0]='1'; return bits; } and just for the sake of completion, the other function is used to output to the stdio window at a specific location: void DispStr(int x, int y, char *s) { x += 0x20; y += 0x20; printf ("\x1B=%c%c%s", x, y, s); }

  • Unfortunately App stopped when destroying SupportMapFragment

    - by user1408341
    I have the following problem. I have three fragments which are hosted in a TabHost. When I'm working with the app everything works fine. Now I like to end the app when the user hits the back button. Instead of terminating without errors I get the message Unfortunately App stopped. Then I said to myself something is wrong with the onDestroy() method of the FragmentActivity or with the onDestroyView method() of the Fragment. The problem is I cannot debug the point where the app crash. I get only the error:Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV). I then removed one by one each Fragment to identify which fragment causes the error. I could identify the fragment that I named BasicMapFragment. Something is wrong there. The code: public class BasicMapFragment extends SupportMapFragment implements LocationListener { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { View view = super.onCreateView(inflater, container, savedInstanceState); //removeAllMarkers(); //setupGps(); //setupMap(); //setupMarkersFromModel(); //registerListeners(); return view; } } I commented out all my self written code to isolate the place where the error occurs. @Override public void onDestroy() { Log.d("ch.xxx.fragment.BasiceMapFragment", "On destroy called"); super.onDestroy(); } public void onDestroyView() { Log.d("ch.xxx.fragment.BasiceMapFragment", "On destroy view called"); super.onDestroyView(); } When I press the back button now the onDestroy() method of my FragmentActivity is first called like expected. Then the onDestroyView method is called on my BasicMapFragment class. At the end the onDestroy method is called - and then the application crash. Here is my layout file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent"> <fragment android:id="@+id/map" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"/> </FrameLayout> Resume: - Map is showed - I can work with the app. - When I leave out the BasicMapFragment the app finish without error. - When I add the BasicMapFragment the app returns an error when I press the back button Is there something that I have forgot to implement? Have somebody had the same trouble?

  • Silverlight: Binding to a LayoutRoot value from within a DataTemplate

    - by Rosarch
    I have a DataTemplate for a ListBox, where I have several controls that bind to an item. I would also like to bind to a value on LayoutRoot.DataContext. I'm unsure of how to do this. <!--LayoutRoot is the root grid where all page content is placed--> <StackPanel x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Transparent"> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Items}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ElementName=LayoutRoot, Path=DataContext.Foo}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </StackPanel> public partial class MainPage : PhoneApplicationPage { public string Foo { get { return "the moon"; } } private int startIndex = 1; private IList<string> _data = new List<string>() { "foo", "bar", "baz" }; public IList<string> Items { get { return _data; } } // Constructor public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); LayoutRoot.DataContext = this; } } This doesn't work; only the _data items are displayed. The following binding errors appear in the Debug output: System.Windows.Data Error: BindingExpression path error: 'Foo' property not found on 'foo' 'System.String' (HashCode=1502598398). BindingExpression: Path='DataContext.Foo' DataItem='System.Windows.Controls.Border' (HashCode=78299055); target element is 'System.Windows.Controls.TextBlock' (Name=''); target property is 'Text' (type 'System.String').. • Getting level values from PCM raw data using Core Audio

    - by John
    I am trying to extract level data from a PCM audio file using core audio. I have gotten as far as (I believe) getting the raw data into a byte array (UInt8) but it is 16 bit PCM data and I am having trouble reading the data out. The input is from the iPhone microphone, which I have set as: [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:kAudioFormatLinearPCM] forKey:AVFormatIDKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithFloat:44100.0] forKey:AVSampleRateKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:1] forKey:AVNumberOfChannelsKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:16] forKey:AVLinearPCMBitDepthKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsBigEndianKey]; [recordSetting setValue:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:AVLinearPCMIsFloatKey]; which is obviously 16 bits. I am then trying to just print out a few values to see if they look reasonable for debug purposes below, and they do not look reasonable (many 0's). ExtAudioFileRef inputFile = NULL; ExtAudioFileOpenURL(track.location, &inputFile); AudioStreamBasicDescription inputFileFormat; UInt32 dataSize = (UInt32)sizeof(inputFileFormat); ExtAudioFileGetProperty(inputFile, kExtAudioFileProperty_FileDataFormat, &dataSize, &inputFileFormat); UInt8 *buffer = malloc(BUFFER_SIZE); AudioBufferList bufferList; bufferList.mNumberBuffers = 1; bufferList.mBuffers[0].mNumberChannels = 1; bufferList.mBuffers[0].mData = buffer; //pointer to buffer of audio data bufferList.mBuffers[0].mDataByteSize = BUFFER_SIZE; //number of bytes in the buffer while(true) { UInt32 frameCount = (bufferList.mBuffers[0].mDataByteSize / inputFileFormat.mBytesPerFrame); // Read a chunk of input OSStatus status = ExtAudioFileRead(inputFile, &frameCount, &bufferList); // If no frames were returned, conversion is finished if(0 == frameCount) break; NSLog(@"---"); int16_t *bufferl = &buffer; for(int i=0;i<100;i++){ //const int16_t *bufferl = bufferl[i]; NSLog(@"%d",bufferl[i]); } } Not sure what I am doing wrong, I think it has to do with reading the byte array. Sorry for the long code post...

  • Securing paths in PHP

    - by tjm
    I'm writing some PHP which takes some paths to different content directories, and uses these to include various parts of pages later. I'm trying to ensure that the paths are as they seem, and none of them break the rules of the application. I have PRIVATEDIR which must lie above DOCUMENT_ROOT (aka) PUBLICDIR. CONTENTDIR which must lie within PRIVATEDIR and not go back below PUBLICDIR and some other *DIR's which must remain within CONTENTDIR. Currently I set up some defaults, and then override the ones the user specifies and then sanity check them with the following. private function __construct($options) { error_reporting(0); if(is_array($options)) { $this->opts = array_merge($this->opts, $options); } if($this->opts['STATUS']==='debug') { error_reporting(E_ALL | E_NOTICE | E_STRICT); } $this->opts['PUBLICDIR'] = realpath($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PUBLICDIR'] .$this->opts['PRIVATEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] .$this->opts['CONTENTDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['CACHEDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] .$this->opts['CACHEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['ERRORDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] .$this->opts['ERRORDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['TEMPLATEDIR' = realpath($this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] .$this->opts['TEMPLATEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; // then here I have to check that PRIVATEDIR is above PUBLICDIR // and that all the rest remain within private dir and don't drop // down into (or below) PUBLICDIR again. And die with an error if // they don't conform. } The thing is this seems like a lot of work to do, especially as it must be run, every time a page is accessed, before I can do anything else, e.g check for a cached version of the page I'm serving. Part of me is thinking, since all of these paths are predefined by the maintainer of the site, they SHOULD be aware of what paths they are allowing access to and ensuring they are secure. But, I think I'm thinking that because currently I am said maintainer, and I KNOW my paths conform to the rules. That said, I do want to secure this thing from any accidental errors by future maintainers (and I bet, now I've said above "I KNOW...", probably from myself somewhere down the line). This just feels like a suboptimal solution. I wonder how fast this would really be and what you would suggest to improve it or as an alternative? Thanks.

  • Converting my lightweight MySQL DB wrapper into MySQLi. Pesky Problems

    - by Chaplin
    Here is the original code: http://pastebin.com/DNxtmApY. I'm not that interested in prepared statements at the moment, I just want this wrapper updating to MySQLi so once MySQL becomes depreciated I haven't got to update a billion websites. Here is my attempt at converting to MySQLi. <? $database_host = "127.0.0.1"; $database_user = "user"; $database_pass = "pass"; $database_name = "name"; $db = new database($database_host, $database_user, $database_pass, $database_name); class database { var $link, $result; function database($host, $user, $pass, $db) { $this->link = mysqli_connect($host, $user, $pass, $db) or $this->error(); mysqli_select_db($db, $this->link) or $this->error(); } function query($query) { $this->result = mysqli_query($query, $this->link) or $this->error(); $this->_query_count++; return $this->result; } function countRows($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_num_rows($result); } function fetch($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result); } function fetch_num($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result, mysqli_NUM); } function fetch_assoc($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result, mysqli_ASSOC); } function escape($str) { return mysqli_real_escape_string($str); } function error() { if ( $_GET["debug"] == 1 ){ die(mysqi_error()); } else { echo "Error in db code"; } } } function sanitize($data) { //apply stripslashes if magic_quotes_gpc is enabled if(get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $data = stripslashes($data); // a mysqli connection is required before using this function $data = trim(mysqli_real_escape_string($data)); return $data; } However it chucks all sorts of errors: Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 7 Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 7 Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 8 Warning: mysqli_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, object given in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/database.php on line 31

  • Get information from a higher class?

    - by Clint Davis
    I don't know really how to word the question so please bear with me... I have 3 classes: Server, Database, and Table. Each class has a "Name" property. How I want it to work is that each server can have multiple databases and each database can have multiple tables. So in the Server class I have this property. Private _databases As List(Of Database) Public Property Databases() As List(Of Database) Get Return _databases End Get Set(ByVal value As List(Of Database)) _databases = value End Set End Property And I have something similar in the Database class for the tables. This works fine now because I can do something like this to get all the databases in the server. For Each db In s.Databases 's being the server object Debug.Print(db.Name) Next I would like to expand these classes. I want the server class to handle all the connection information and I would like the other classes to use the server class's connection information in them. For example, I setup a server class and set the connection string to the server. Then I want the database class to use serverclass.connectionstring property to connect to the server and get a list of all the databases. But I want to keep that code in the database class. How can I do this? I've attached some code of what I want to do. Public Class Server Private _name As String Public Property Name() As String Get Return _name End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _name = value End Set End Property Private _databases As List(Of Database) Public Property Databases() As List(Of Database) Get Return _databases End Get Set(ByVal value As List(Of Database)) _databases = value End Set End Property End Class '-----New class Public Class Database Private _name As String Public Property Name() As String Get Return _name End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _name = value End Set End Property Private _tables As List(Of Table) Public Property Tables() As List(Of Table) Get Return _tables End Get Set(ByVal value As List(Of Table)) _tables = value End Set End Property 'This is where I need help! Private Sub LoadTables () dim connectionstring as string = server.connectionstring 'Possible? 'Do database stuff End Class Thanks for reading!

  • VS 2010 IDE 2GB limt

    - by user561732
    I am using VS 2010 on a win 7 64 bit system with 8 GB of memory. My application is 32 bit. While in the VS 2010 .Net IDE, the app shows up in the Windows task manager as "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" while the VS IDE itself shows up as "devenv.exe *32". I checked and it appears that the VS 2010 IDE file (devenv.exe) is complied with the /LargeAddressAware flag. However, when debugging large models, the IDE fails with an Out of memory exception. In the Windows Task manager, the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process indicates about 1400 MB of memory usage (while the "devenv.exe *32" process is well under 500 MB). Is it possible to set the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process to be /LargeAddressAware in order to avoid this out of memory situation? If so, how can this be done in the IDE. While setting the final application binary to be /LargeAddressAware would work, I still need to be able to debug the app in the IDE with these type of large models. I should also note that my app has a deep object hierarchy with many collections that together required a lot of memory. However, my issue is not related to trying to create say 1 large array that requires greater then 2 GB of memory etc. I should note that I am able to run the same app in the VB6 IDE and not get an out of memory situation as long as the VB6 IDE is made /LargeAddressAware. In the case of VB6, the IDE and the app being debugged are part of the same process (and not split into 2 as is the case with VS 2010.) The VB6 process can be larger then 3 GB without running into out of memory issues. Ultimately, my objective is to have my app run completely in 64 bit to access more memory. I am hoping that in such cases, the IDE will allow the debugging process to exceed 2 GB without crashing (and certainly more then 1.4 GB as is the current case). However, for now, while 95% of my app is 64 bit, I am calling a legacy COM 32 bit DLL and as such, my entire app is forced to still run in 32 bit mode until I replace that DLL.

    I'm getting my data ,with several similar methods, from sqlite3 file like in following code: -(NSMutableArray *) getCountersByID:(NSString *) championID{ NSMutableArray *arrayOfCounters; arrayOfCounters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; @try { NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *databasePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath ]stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"DatabaseCounters.sqlite"]; BOOL success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; if (!success) { NSLog(@"cannot connect to Database! at filepath %@",databasePath); } else{ NSLog (@"SUCCESS getCountersByID!!"); } if(sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK){ NSString *tempString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"SELECT COUNTER_ID FROM COUNTERS WHERE CHAMPION_ID = %@",championID]; const char *sql = [tempString cStringUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; sqlite3_stmt *sqlStatement; int ret = sqlite3_prepare(database, sql, -1, &sqlStatement, NULL); if (ret != SQLITE_OK) { NSLog(@"Error calling sqlite3_prepare: %d", ret); } if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &sqlStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK){ while (sqlite3_step(sqlStatement)==SQLITE_ROW) { counterList *CounterList = [[counterList alloc]init]; CounterList.counterID = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *) sqlite3_column_text(sqlStatement,0)]; [arrayOfCounters addObject:CounterList]; } } else{ NSLog(@"problem with database prepare"); } sqlite3_finalize(sqlStatement); } else{ NSLog(@"problem with database openning %s",sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } } @catch (NSException *exception){ NSLog(@"An exception occured: %@", [exception reason]); } @finally{ sqlite3_close(database); return arrayOfCounters; } //end } then i'm getting access to data with this and other similar lines of code: myCounterList *MyCounterList = [[myCounterList alloc] init]; countersTempArray = [MyCounterList getCountersByID:"2"]; [countersArray addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",(((counterList *) [countersTempArray objectAtIndex:i]).counterID)]]; I'm getting a lot of data like image name and showing combination of them that depends on users input with such code: UIImage *tempImage = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@_0.jpg",[countersArray objectAtIndex:0]]]; [championSelection setBackgroundImage:tempImage forState:UIControlStateNormal]; My problem: When i'm run my app for some time and get a lot of data it throws error: " problem with database openning unable to open database file - error = 24 (Too many open files)" My guess is that i'm opening my database every time when getCountersByID is called but not closing it. My question: Am i using right approach to open and close database that i use? Similar questions that have not helped me to solve this problem: unable to open database Sqlite Opening Error : Unable to open database UPDATE: I made assumption that error is showing up because i use this lines of code too much: NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *databasePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath ]stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"DatabaseCounters.sqlite"]; BOOL success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; and ending up with error 24. So i made them global but sqlite3_errmsg shows same err 24, but app runs much faster now I'll try to debug my app, see what happens

  • Methods in Customized View did not get invoke in AppDelegate, Why?

    - by NorthKyut
    I want the methods pauseGame in customized UIView - MyGameView get invoked when the phone is locked or interrupted. So I have a pauseGame method but it can't stop the timer when user lock screen (command+L). The lock screen did appear but the game still running at the background. So I added the testPause method to MyGameView and MyGameAppDelegate and and put a breakpoint to debug it. When screen locked it, the screen lock appeared and the code did stop at the breakpoint. But when I tried to step into the testPause method, it didn't take me to the method in MyGameView (it just passed it, not skipped) and no message was printed on terminal by NSLog. Why? What did I miss? // // MyGameAppDelegate.h // MyGame // #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @class MyGameViewController; @class MyGameView; @interface MyGameAppDelegate : NSObject { UIWindow *window; MyGameViewController *viewController; MyGameView *view; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MyGameViewController *viewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MyGameView *view; @end // // MyGameAppDelegate.m // MyGame // #import "MyGameAppDelegate.h" #import "MyGameViewController.h" #import "MyGameView.h" @implementation MyGameAppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize viewController; @synthesize view; - (void)applicationWillResignActive:(UIApplication *)application { /* Sent when the application is about to move from active to inactive state. • VB.Net 2008 IDE hanging - MSVB7.dll eating 100% CPU when editing code

    - by Andrew Backer
    I am having a problem with msvb7.dll eating 50%+ cpu on my dual core system. This usually lasts 10-30 seconds or so, during which time the IDE is non-responsive. This occurs when I do pretty much anything in the text editor, and can be replicated by simply adding blank lines to a function, and then deleting them. Or pasting some code. Or... lotsa stuff. SP1 installed I had DevExpress' refactor/coderush, components, and codeit.right installed, but have removed all 3 of them. (I had installed the latest version of Refactor Pro! (9.3.4), perhaps the day before) I have tried a VS.NET Repair. There is a kb that referenced some cpu destroying with vb, but it was included in SP1 Also: The solution consists of ~30 VB projects and 2 C# projects 8 other developers aren't having any issues with this (or at least not the SAME issues, we all have em) Clean get from TFS was done Project builds properly, can can even debug. This doesn't seem to happen on really small solutions, but perhaps it does and it just goes away super quick. Any clues at all as to what might be causing this, or how to fix it? I REALLY don't want to lose another day uninstalling and reinstalling and patching and so on =) If that even fixes it. The second time I press it, it does not fire. Third press, fires. Fourth press, does not fire. Etc. Originally I had it bound to a command but that was behaving the same way. (I put a Debug.WriteLine() in the event handler so I know when it fires.) Any ideas? It's really odd that the click event only fires every other time.

  • Scripting with the Sun ZFS Storage 7000 Appliance

    The Sun ZFS Storage 7000 appliance has a user friendly and easy to understand graphical web based interface we call the "BUI" or "Browser User Interface".This interface is very useful for many tasks, but in some cases a script (or workflow) may be more appropriate, such as:Repetitive tasksTasks which work on (or obtain information about) a large number of shares or usersTasks which are triggered by an alert threshold (workflows)Tasks where you want a only very basic input, but a consistent output (workflows)The appliance scripting language is based on ECMAscript 3 (close to javascript). I'm not going to cover ECMAscript 3 in great depth (I'm far from an expert here), but I would like to show you some neat things you can do with the appliance, to get you started based on what I have found from my own playing around.I'm making the assumption you have some sort of programming background, and understand variables, arrays, functions to some extent - but of course if something is not clear, please let me know so I can fix it up or clarify it.Variable Declarations and ArraysVariablesECMAScript is a dynamically and weakly typed language. If you don't know what that means, google is your friend - but at a high level it means we can just declare variables with no specific type and on the fly.For example, I can declare a variable and use it straight away in the middle of my code, for example:projects=list();Which makes projects an array of values that are returned from the list(); function (which is usable in most contexts). With this kind of variable, I can do things like:projects.length (this property on array tells you how many objects are in it, good for for loops etc). Alternatively, I could say:projects=3;and now projects is just a simple number.Should we declare variables like this so loosely? In my opinion, the answer is no - I feel it is a better practice to declare variables you are going to use, before you use them - and given them an initial value. You can do so as follows:var myVariable=0;To demonstrate the ability to just randomly assign and change the type of variables, you can create a simple script at the cli as follows (bold for input):fishy10:> script("." to run)> run("cd /");("." to run)> run ("shares");("." to run)> var projects;("." to run)> projects=list();("." to run)> printf("Number of projects is: %d\n",projects.length);("." to run)> projects=152;("." to run)> printf("Value of the projects variable as an integer is now: %d\n",projects);("." to run)> .Number of projects is: 7Value of the projects variable as an integer is now: 152You can also confirm this behaviour by checking the typeof variable we are dealing with:fishy10:> script("." to run)> run("cd /");("." to run)> run ("shares");("." to run)> var projects;("." to run)> projects=list();("." to run)> printf("var projects is of type %s\n",typeof(projects));("." to run)> projects=152;("." to run)> printf("var projects is of type %s\n",typeof(projects));("." to run)> .var projects is of type objectvar projects is of type numberArraysSo you likely noticed that we have already touched on arrays, as the list(); (in the shares context) stored an array into the 'projects' variable.But what if you want to declare your own array? Easy! This is very similar to Java and other languages, we just instantiate a brand new "Array" object using the keyword new:var myArray = new Array();will create an array called "myArray".A quick example:fishy10:> script("." to run)> testArray = new Array();("." to run)> testArray[0]="This";("." to run)> testArray[1]="is";("." to run)> testArray[2]="just";("." to run)> testArray[3]="a";("." to run)> testArray[4]="test";("." to run)> for (i=0; i < testArray.length; i++)("." to run)> {("." to run)>    printf("Array element %d is %s\n",i,testArray[i]);("." to run)> }("." to run)> .Array element 0 is ThisArray element 1 is isArray element 2 is justArray element 3 is aArray element 4 is testWorking With LoopsFor LoopFor loops are very similar to those you will see in C, java and several other languages. One of the key differences here is, as you were made aware earlier, we can be a bit more sloppy with our variable declarations.The general way you would likely use a for loop is as follows:for (variable; test-case; modifier for variable){}For example, you may wish to declare a variable i as 0; and a MAX_ITERATIONS variable to determine how many times this loop should repeat:var i=0;var MAX_ITERATIONS=10;And then, use this variable to be tested against some case existing (has i reached MAX_ITERATIONS? - if not, increment i using i++);for (i=0; i < MAX_ITERATIONS; i++){ // some work to do}So lets run something like this on the appliance:fishy10:> script("." to run)> var i=0;("." to run)> var MAX_ITERATIONS=10;("." to run)> for (i=0; i < MAX_ITERATIONS; i++)("." to run)> {("." to run)>    printf("The number is %d\n",i);("." to run)> }("." to run)> .The number is 0The number is 1The number is 2The number is 3The number is 4The number is 5The number is 6The number is 7The number is 8The number is 9While LoopWhile loops again are very similar to other languages, we loop "while" a condition is met. For example:fishy10:> script("." to run)> var isTen=false;("." to run)> var counter=0;("." to run)> while(isTen==false)("." to run)> {("." to run)>    if (counter==10) ("." to run)>    { ("." to run)>            isTen=true;   ("." to run)>    } ("." to run)>    printf("Counter is %d\n",counter);("." to run)>    counter++;    ("." to run)> }("." to run)> printf("Loop has ended and Counter is %d\n",counter);("." to run)> .Counter is 0Counter is 1Counter is 2Counter is 3Counter is 4Counter is 5Counter is 6Counter is 7Counter is 8Counter is 9Counter is 10Loop has ended and Counter is 11So what do we notice here? Something has actually gone wrong - counter will technically be 11 once the loop completes... Why is this?Well, if we have a loop like this, where the 'while' condition that will end the loop may be set based on some other condition(s) existing (such as the counter has reached 10) - we must ensure that we  terminate this iteration of the loop when the condition is met - otherwise the rest of the code will be followed which may not be desirable. In other words, like in other languages, we will only ever check the loop condition once we are ready to perform the next iteration, so any other code after we set "isTen" to be true, will still be executed as we can see it was above.We can avoid this by adding a break into our loop once we know we have set the condition - this will stop the rest of the logic being processed in this iteration (and as such, counter will not be incremented). So lets try that again:fishy10:> script("." to run)> var isTen=false;("." to run)> var counter=0;("." to run)> while(isTen==false)("." to run)> {("." to run)>    if (counter==10) ("." to run)>    { ("." to run)>            isTen=true;   ("." to run)>            break;("." to run)>    } ("." to run)>    printf("Counter is %d\n",counter);("." to run)>    counter++;    ("." to run)> }("." to run)> printf("Loop has ended and Counter is %d\n", counter);("." to run)> .Counter is 0Counter is 1Counter is 2Counter is 3Counter is 4Counter is 5Counter is 6Counter is 7Counter is 8Counter is 9Loop has ended and Counter is 10Much better!Methods to Obtain and Manipulate DataGet MethodThe get method allows you to get simple properties from an object, for example a quota from a user. The syntax is fairly simple:var myVariable=get('property');An example of where you may wish to use this, is when you are getting a bunch of information about a user (such as quota information when in a shares context):var users=list();for(k=0; k < users.length; k++){     user=users[k];     run('select ' + user);     var username=get('name');     var usage=get('usage');     var quota=get('quota');...Which you can then use to your advantage - to print or manipulate infomation (you could change a user's information with a set method, based on the information returned from the get method). The set method is explained next.Set MethodThe set method can be used in a simple manner, similar to get. The syntax for set is:set('property','value'); // where value is a string, if it was a number, you don't need quotesFor example, we could set the quota on a share as follows (first observing the initial value):fishy10:shares default/test-geoff> script("." to run)> var currentQuota=get('quota');("." to run)> printf("Current Quota is: %s\n",currentQuota);("." to run)> set('quota','30G');("." to run)> run('commit');("." to run)> currentQuota=get('quota');("." to run)> printf("Current Quota is: %s\n",currentQuota);("." to run)> .Current Quota is: 0Current Quota is: 32212254720This shows us using both the get and set methods as can be used in scripts, of course when only setting an individual share, the above is overkill - it would be much easier to set it manually at the cli using 'set quota=3G' and then 'commit'.List MethodThe list method can be very powerful, especially in more complex scripts which iterate over large amounts of data and manipulate it if so desired. The general way you will use list is as follows:var myVar=list();Which will make "myVar" an array, containing all the objects in the relevant context (this could be a list of users, shares, projects, etc). You can then gather or manipulate data very easily.We could list all the shares and mountpoints in a given project for example:fishy10:shares another-project> script("." to run)> var shares=list();("." to run)> for (i=0; i < shares.length; i++)("." to run)> {("." to run)>    run('select ' + shares[i]);("." to run)>    var mountpoint=get('mountpoint');("." to run)>    printf("Share %s discovered, has mountpoint %s\n",shares[i],mountpoint);("." to run)>    run('done');("." to run)> }("." to run)> .Share and-another discovered, has mountpoint /export/another-project/and-anotherShare another-share discovered, has mountpoint /export/another-project/another-shareShare bob discovered, has mountpoint /export/another-projectShare more-shares-for-all discovered, has mountpoint /export/another-project/more-shares-for-allShare yep discovered, has mountpoint /export/another-project/yepWriting More Complex and Re-Usable CodeFunctionsThe best way to be able to write more complex code is to use functions to split up repeatable or reusable sections of your code. This also makes your more complex code easier to read and understand for other programmers.We write functions as follows:function functionName(variable1,variable2,...,variableN){}For example, we could have a function that takes a project name as input, and lists shares for that project (assuming we're already in the 'project' context - context is important!):function getShares(proj){        run('select ' + proj);        shares=list();        printf("Project: %s\n", proj);        for(j=0; j < shares.length; j++)        {                printf("Discovered share: %s\n",shares[i]);        }        run('done'); // exit selected project}Commenting your CodeLike any other language, a large part of making it readable and understandable is to comment it. You can use the same comment style as in C and Java amongst other languages.In other words, sngle line comments use://at the beginning of the comment.Multi line comments use:/*at the beginning, and:*/ at the end.For example, here we will use both:fishy10:> script("." to run)> // This is a test comment("." to run)> printf("doing some work...\n");("." to run)> /* This is a multi-line("." to run)> comment which I will span across("." to run)> three lines in total */("." to run)> printf("doing some more work...\n");("." to run)> .doing some work...doing some more work...Your comments do not have to be on their own, they can begin (particularly with single line comments this is handy) at the end of a statement, for examplevar projects=list(); // The variable projects is an array containing all projects on the system.Try and Catch StatementsYou may be used to using try and catch statements in other languages, and they can (and should) be utilised in your code to catch expected or unexpected error conditions, that you do NOT wish to stop your code from executing (if you do not catch these errors, your script will exit!):try{  // do some work}catch(err) // Catch any error that could occur{ // do something here under the error condition}For example, you may wish to only execute some code if a context can be reached. If you can't perform certain actions under certain circumstances, that may be perfectly acceptable.For example if you want to test a condition that only makes sense when looking at a SMB/NFS share, but does not make sense when you hit an iscsi or FC LUN, you don't want to stop all processing of other shares you may not have covered yet.For example we may wish to obtain quota information on all shares for all users on a share (but this makes no sense for a LUN):function getShareQuota(shar) // Get quota for each user of this share{        run('select ' + shar);        printf("  SHARE: %s\n", shar);        try        {                run('users');                printf("    %20s        %11s    %11s    %3s\n","Username","Usage(G)","Quota(G)","Quota(%)");                printf("    %20s        %11s    %11s    %4s\n","--------","--------","--------","----");                                users=list();                for(k=0; k < users.length; k++)                {                        user=users[k];                        getUserQuota(user);                }                run('done'); // exit user context        }        catch(err)        {                printf("    SKIPPING %s - This is NOT a NFS or CIFs share, not looking for users\n", shar);        }        run('done'); // done with this share}Running Scripts Remotely over SSHAs you have likely noticed, writing and running scripts for all but the simplest jobs directly on the appliance is not going to be a lot of fun.There's a couple of choices on what you can do here:Create scripts on a remote system and run them over sshCreate scripts, wrapping them in workflow code, so they are stored on the appliance and can be triggered under certain circumstances (like a threshold being reached)We'll cover the first one here, and then cover workflows later on (as these are for the most part just scripts with some wrapper information around them).Creating a SSH Public/Private SSH Key PairLog on to your handy Solaris box (You wouldn't be using any other OS, right? :P) and use ssh-keygen to create a pair of ssh keys. This is important!Also - there is plenty of properties you can set on the parameters for your workflow, these are described in the Sun ZFS Storage System Administration Guide.Creating a Basic Workflow from a Basic ScriptTo make a basic script into a basic workflow, you need to wrap the following around your script to create a 'workflow' object:var workflow = {name: 'Get User Quotas',description: 'Displays Quota Utilisation for each user on each share',execute: function() {// (basic script goes here, minus the "script" at the beginning, and "." at the end)}};However, it appears (at least in my experience to date) that the workflow object may only be happy with one function in the execute parameter - either that or I'm doing something wrong. As far as I can tell, after execute: you should only have a basic one function context like so:execute: function(){}To deal with this, and to give an example similar to our script earlier, I have created another simple quota check, to show the same basic functionality, but in a workflow format:var workflow = {name: 'Get User Quotas',description: 'Displays Quota Utilisation for each user on each share',execute: function () {        run('cd /');        run('shares');        projects=list();                for (i=0; i < projects.length; i++)        {                run('select ' + projects[i]);                shares=list('filesystem');                printf("Project: %s\n", projects[i]);                for(j=0; j < shares.length; j++)                {                        run('select ' +shares[j]);                        try                        {                                run('users');                                printf("  SHARE: %s\n", shares[j]);                                printf("    %20s        %11s    %11s    %3s\n","Username","Usage(G)","Quota(G)","Quota(%)");                                printf("    %20s        %11s    %11s    %4s\n","--------","--------","--------","-------");                                users=list();                                for(k=0; k < users.length; k++)                                {                                        run('select ' + users[k]);                                        username=get('name');                                        usage=get('usage');                                        quota=get('quota');                                        usage_g=usage / 1073741824; // convert bytes to gigabytes                                        quota_g=quota / 1073741824; // as above                                        quota_percent=0                                        if (quota > 0)                                        {                                                quota_percent=(usage / quota)*(100/1);                                        }                                        printf("    %20s        %8.2f   %8.2f   %d%%\n",username,usage_g,quota_g,quota_percent);                                        run('done');                                }                                run('done'); // exit user context                        }                        catch(err)                        {                        //      printf("    %s is a LUN, Not looking for users\n", shares[j]);                        }                        run('done'); // exit selected share context                }                run('done'); // exit project context        }        }};SummaryThe Sun ZFS Storage 7000 Appliance offers lots of different and interesting features to Sun/Oracle customers, including the world renowned Analytics. • Why does Cacti keep waiting for dead poller processes?

    - by Oliver Salzburg
    sorry for the length I am currently setting up a new Debian (6.0.5) server. I put Cacti (0.8.7g) on it yesterday and have been battling with it ever since. Initial issue The initial issue I was observing, was that my graphs weren't updating. So I checked my cacti.log and found this concerning message: POLLER: Poller[0] Maximum runtime of 298 seconds exceeded. Exiting. That can't be good, right? So I went checking and started poller.php myself (via sudo -u www-data php poller.php --force). It will pump out a lot of message (which all look like what I would expect) and then hang for a minute. After that 1 minute, it will loop the following message: Waiting on 1 of 1 pollers. This goes on for 4 more minutes until the process is forcefully ended for running longer than 300s. So far so good I went on for a good hour trying to determine what poller might still be running, until I got to the conclusion that there simply is no running poller. Debugging I checked poller.php to see how that warning is issued and why. On line 368, Cacti will retrieve the number of finished processes from the database and use that value to calculate how many processes are still running. So, let's see that value! I added the following debug code into poller.php: print "Finished: " . $finished_processes . " - Started: " . $started_processes . "\n"; Result This will print the following within seconds of starting poller.php: Finished: 0 - Started: 1 Waiting on 1 of 1 pollers. Finished: 1 - Started: 1 So the values are being read and are valid. Until we get to the part where it keeps looping: Finished: - Started: 1 Waiting on 1 of 1 pollers. Suddenly, the value is gone. Why? Putting var_dump() in there confirms the issue: NULL Finished: - Started: 1 Waiting on 1 of 1 pollers. The return value is NULL. How can that be when querying SELECT COUNT()...? (SELECT COUNT() should always return one result row, shouldn't it?) More debugging So I went into lib\database.php and had a look at that db_fetch_cell(). A bit of testing confirmed, that the result set is actually empty. So I added my own database query code in there to see what that would do: $finished_processes = db_fetch_cell("SELECT count(*) FROM poller_time WHERE poller_id=0 AND end_time>'0000-00-00 00:00:00'"); print "Finished: " . $finished_processes . " - Started: " . $started_processes . "\n"; $mysqli = new mysqli("localhost","cacti","cacti","cacti"); $result = $mysqli->query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM poller_time WHERE poller_id=0 AND end_time>'0000-00-00 00:00:00';"); $row = $result->fetch_assoc(); var_dump( $row ); This will output Finished: - Started: 1 array(1) { ["COUNT(*)"]=> string(1) "2" } Waiting on 1 of 1 pollers. So, the data is there and can be accessed without any problems, just not with the method Cacti is using? Double-check that! I enabled MySQL logging to make sure I'm not imagining things. Sure enough, when the error message is looped, the cacti.log reads as if it was querying like mad: 06/29/2012 08:44:00 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] DEVEL: SQL Cell: "SELECT count(*) FROM cacti.poller_time WHERE poller_id=0 AND end_time>'0000-00-00 00:00:00'" 06/29/2012 08:44:01 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] DEVEL: SQL Cell: "SELECT count(*) FROM cacti.poller_time WHERE poller_id=0 AND end_time>'0000-00-00 00:00:00'" 06/29/2012 08:44:02 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] DEVEL: SQL Cell: "SELECT count(*) FROM cacti.poller_time WHERE poller_id=0 AND end_time>'0000-00-00 00:00:00'" But none of these queries are logged my MySQL. Yet, when I add my own database query code, it shows up just fine. What the heck is going on here?
