In order to make function calls to our back-end php code we've implemented something called an ActionProxy like this: function ActionProxy(action, input, callback){ $.post("ActionProxy.php?method="+action, { data: input}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest){ //return data.ResponseWhatever } }); The problem we're having is that using data outside the ActionProxy is impossible due to variable scope limitations (we assume), setting var res = data.ResponseWhatever or return data.ResponseWhatever is pretty futile. How would one handle these responses most appropriately so that functions calling the actionproxy can access the response values?

The HashSet in no longer working properly. A solution would be to make Member immutable, but is that the only solution? Should all classes added to HashSets be immutable?   So basically what im trying to do is queue up tasks in a thread pool to be executed as soon as a worker becomes free, i have found various examples of this but in all cases the examples have been setup to use a new Worker instance for each job, i want persistent workers. Im trying to make a ftp backup tool, i have it working but because of the limitations of a single connection it is slow. What i ideally want to do is have a single connection for scanning directories and building up a file list then four workers to download said files.   Hi, I have no idea if the title makes any sense but I can't find the right words to descibe my "problem" in one line. Anyway, here is my problem. I can fix this by changing the program to pass cmd by reference when calling scanf and strcmp. The segfault goes away and is replaced by warnings for each use of strcmp at compile time. Despite the warnings, the affected code works. warning: passing arg 1 of 'strcmp' from incompatible pointer type As an added bonus, modifying the scanf and strcmp calls allows the program to progress far enough to execute return(0), at which point the thing crashes with an Abort trap. If I swap out return(0) for exit(0) then everything works as expected. This leaves me with two questions: why was the original program wrong? How can I fix it better than I have? The bit about needing to use exit instead of return has me especially baffled.

  The navigator object has a javaEnabled function that indicates if the browser has javascript support. This seems to be a little odd: If JS is indeed enabled the function will return true, well obviously. If JS is disabled it will return <nothing since it is never run, javaScript is disabled. I must be missing something here, or is it really that useless this function?

  In emacs lisp, posn-at-point is documented as: posn-at-point is a built-in function in C source code. (posn-at-point &optional POS WINDOW) . Return position information for buffer POS in WINDOW. POS defaults to point in WINDOW; WINDOW defaults to the selected window. . Return nil if position is not visible in window. Otherwise, the return value is similar to that returned by event-start for a mouse click at the upper left corner of the glyph corresponding to the given buffer position: (WINDOW AREA-OR-POS (X . Y) TIMESTAMP OBJECT POS (COL . ROW) IMAGE (DX . DY) (WIDTH . HEIGHT)) The posn- functions access elements of such lists. ok, now I've got a function that looks something like this: (defun my-move-and-popup-menu () "move the point, then pop up a menu." (goto-char xxxx) (setq p (posn-at-point)) (my-popup-menu p ...) ) Basically, move the point, then retrieve the screen position at that point, and then popup a menu at that screen position. But I am finding that posn-at-point returns non-nil, only if the xxxx character position (the after position) is visible in the window, before the call to goto-char. It seems that the position is not actually updated until exit from the function. If goto-char goes a long way, more than one screenful, then the retrieved position is always nil, and my code doesn't know where to popup the menu. The reason I suggest that the position is not actually updated until exit from the function - when the menu successfully pops up, the cursor is clearly visible in its previous location while the popup menu is being displayed. When I dismiss the menu, the cursor moves to where I expected it to move, after the goto-char call. How can I get the position to be really updated, between goto-char and posn-at-point, so that posn-at-point will not return nil? In a Windows Forms application I would call Form.Update() or something similar to update the display in the middle of an event handler. What's the emacs version of that?

  Right, so when I set up my mock using the testing plugin's mockFor method, I expect a method that returns null. If I do myControl.demand.theMethod {return null} in the debugger, the value that I set the 'theMethod' call result to is some closure in the debugger. If I do myControl.demand.theMethod {->return null} the value is null, as expected. I dont understand the difference....

The following are the restrictions: The classes SURFACE and CURVE are from 3rd party libraries and hence unmodifiable. (If it helps they are both derived from IDispatch) There are even more similar classes (e.g. FACE) that could fit into this "template" (not C++ template, just the flow of lines of code) I know the following could (possibly?) be implemented as solutions but am really hoping there is a better solution: I could add a 3rd parameter to the 2 methods - e.g. an enum - that identifies the 1st parameter (e.g. enum::input_type_surface, enum::input_type_curve) I could pass in an IDispatch and try dynamic_cast< and test which cast is NON_NULL and do an if-else to call the right method (e.g. getPlaneParams() vs. get_LineParams()) The following is not a restriction but would be a requirement because of my teammates resistance: Not implement a new class that inherits from SURFACE/CURVE etc. (They would much prefer to solve it using the enum solution I stated above)
