We want to highlight the "Installation Information" section which includes the following late-breaking information: Business Rules Migration to Calculation Manager Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager has replaced Oracle Hyperion Business Rules as the mechanism for designing and managing business rules, therefore, Business Rules is no longer released with EPM System Release 11.1.2.2. If you are applying 11.1.2.2 as a maintenance release, or upgrading to Release 11.1.2.2, and have been using Business Rules in an earlier release, you must migrate to Calculation Manager rules in Release 11.1.2.2. • Attachment handling for web application with Jackrabbit

  I need to manage attachments on my Spring web application and I thought to use an open source repository. My app it's a job approval system using J2EE / SPRING 3 Framework and Postgress DB to allow user to tracks the job,right through every step of the approval process. It is a fully managed, collaborative system that operates from a central server and is accessed by a standard internet browser. An user should be able to add an attach to a request or an approval step, so, I though to use Jackrabbit with Postgres database persistence manager. I took a look to this post: http://onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2006/10/04/what-is-java-content-repository.html?page=1 It's really interesting but, I've some question about this kind of solution :- I seen that Jackrabbit standalone as a Derby database embedded solution for persistence, is it enough for a professional use of the repository with more than 50 request / days (with attachment) ? Is there a reason for which I should use another database manager for persistence instead of the default one ?

  A lot of you know me as an Application Lifecycle Management MVP, and a huge proponent of ALM, TFS, and Visual Studio.  For my day job, however, I work for Infront Consulting Group, a System Center consulting and training organization.  I love what I do there, and work closely with Operations Manager, Service Manager, and Orchestrator.  And believe it or not, use a lot of ALM best practices around all of those.   Let me explain my situation. I'm planning a kind of test case runner for doing testcases on external devices, which are microcontroller based. Lets consider the devices: Device 1 Device 2 There exist a lot of test cases which can be run with one of the devices above. For example: Testcase 1 Testcase 2 The main reason that all the testcases can be run with any device is, that the testcases validates some standard and this software should be extensible for future devices. The testcases itself must be runnable with changing parameters. For example Testcase 1 does some Timing Verification the testcase needs as input parameter the datarate: 4800, 9600, 19200. Now hoping you understand the situation, let me explain my design questions. For implementing the test cases I thought about an Attribute based approach, like nunit does it. The more complicated problem is, how to define the parametrized testcases? Like this: Device 1: Testcase 1: datarate: 4800, 9600, 19200 Testcase 2: supply: 1, 2, 3 Device 2: Testcase 1: datarate: 9600, 19200, 38400 Testcase 2: supply: 3, 4, 5 How would you design such a framework? • Game Code Design for Rendering

  I first created a game on the iPhone and I'm now porting it to Android. I wrote most of the code in C++, but when it came to porting it wasn't so easy. The Android way is to have two threads, one for rendering and one for updating. This due to some devices blocking when updating the hardware. My problem is that I am coming from the iPhone. When I transition, say from the Menu to the Game, I would stop the Animation (Rendering) and load up the next Manager (the Menu has a Manager and so has the Game). I could implement the same thing on Android, but I have noticed on game ports like Quake, don't do this - as far as I can tell. I have learnt that I cannot just dynamically add another Renderer class the the tree because I will probably get a dequeuing buffer error - which I believe to be a problem with the OpenGL ES side. So how is it done?

• Skipping intermediate Ubuntu OS upgrade to latest one,How do I upgrade from 9.04 to 10.04.2?

  I'm currently runing Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I want to upgrade to 10.04.02, but whenever I use the Update manager to do this, it fails with the error "An upgrade from 'jaunty' to 'lucid' is not supported with this tool". I also tried to run sudo do-release-upgrade -d, but it fails with the same error message: Checking for a new ubuntu release Done Upgrade tool signature Done Upgrade tool Done downloading extracting 'lucid.tar.gz' authenticate 'lucid.tar.gz' against 'lucid.tar.gz.gpg' tar: Removing leading `/' from member names Reading cache Checking package manager Can not upgrade An upgrade from 'jaunty' to 'lucid' is not supported with this tool.

• Application qos involving priority and bandwidth

  Our manager wants us to do applicaiton qos which is quite different from the well-known system qos. We have many services of three types, they have priorites, the manager wants to suspend low priority services requests when there are not enough bandwidth for high priority services. But if the high priority services requests decrease, the bandwidth for low priority services should increase and low priority service requests are allowed again. There should be an algorithm involving priority and bandwidth. I don't know how to design the algorithm, is there any example on the internet? Somebody can give suggestion? Thanks. UPDATE All these services are within a same process. We are setting the maximum bandwidth for the three types of services via ports of services via TC (TC is the linux qos tool whose name means traffic control).

• Vendors: Partners or Salespeople?

  I got a great e-mail from a friend that asked about how he could foster a better relationship with his vendors. So many times when you work with a vendor it’s more of a used-car sales experience than a partnership – but you can actually make your vendor more of a partner, as long as you both set some ground-rules at the start. Sit down with your vendor, and have a heart-to-heart talk with them, explain that they won’t win every time, but that you’re willing to work with them in an honest way on both sides. Here’s the advice I sent him verbatim. I hope this post generates lots of comments from both customers and vendors. I don’t expect that you’ve had a great experience with your Microsoft reps, but I happen to work with some of the best sales teams in the business, and our clients tell us that all the time. “The key to this relationship is to keep the audience really small. Ideally there should be one person from your side that is responsible for the relationship, and one from the vendor’s side. Each responsible person should have the authority to make decisions, and to bring in other folks as needed for a given topic, project or decision.   For Microsoft, this is called an “Account Manager” – they aren’t technical, they aren’t sales. They “own” a relationship with a company. They learn what the company does, who does it, and how. They are responsible to understand what the challenges in your company are. While they don’t know the bits and bytes of everything we sell, they know what each thing does, and who to talk to about it. I get a call from an Account Manager every week that has pre-digested an issue at an organization and says to me: “I need you to set up an architectural meeting with their technical staff to get a better read on how we can help with problem X.” I do that and then report back to the Account Manager what we learned.  All through this process there’s the atmosphere of a “team”, not a “sales opportunity” per se. I’ve even recommended that the firm use a rival product, and I’ve never gotten push-back on that decision from my Account Managers.   But that brings up an interesting point. Someone pays an Account Manager and pays me. They expect something in return. At some point, you have to buy something. Not every time, not every situation – sometimes it’s just helping you with what you already bought from us. But the point is that you can’t expect lots of love and never spend any money. That’s the way business works.   Finally, don’t view the vendor as someone with their hand in your pocket – somebody that’s just trying to sell you something and doesn’t care if they ever see you again – unless they deserve it. There are plenty of “love them and leave them” companies out there, and you may have even had this experience with us, but that isn’t the case in the firms I work with. In fact, my customers get a questionnaire that asks them that exact question. “How many times have you seen your account team? Did you like your interaction with them? Can they do better?” My raises, performance reviews and general standing in my group are based on the answers the company gives.  Ask your vendor if they measure their sales and support teams this way – if not, seek another vendor to partner with.   Partnering with someone is a big deal. It involves time and effort on your part, and on the vendor’s part. If either of you isn’t pulling your weight, it just won’t work. • JPEG images not loading on PlayBook (Marmalade + iwgame)

  I'm using iwgame on a test project and I was trying to render different resolutions of JPG and PNG images. Everything works fine on the Marmalade Simulator, however once I deploy the game to our PlayBook and run it, only the PNG images are shown. I have declared the images in the MKB file and on a XML file iwgame's using to load the images. I've checked the deployments folder and all images are present in the intermediatefiles/native folder. We're currently using a BlackBerry only license, so we can only test this on the PlayBook, but we do intend to get a Community license and deploy to iOS and Android devices eventually (I'm not sure if this is a problem exclusive to the PlayBook). I really don't know if this is a Marmalade or a iwgame issue. I have a different test project without iwgame and it simply won't run with jpg images (I get the error: 'Could not find handler for extension "jpg"'). While searching for a sollution, I've seen people talking about using libjpg, but I've also found that Marmalade supposedly has integrated native jpeg support (and because of that iwgame has abandoned their jpeg loading support since v0.340), so I don't know what to think. I'm currently using the most recent versions of both Marmalade and iwgame, I believe: Marmalade 6.1.2 and iwgame 0.400. Also, please let me know if there's an easier or better way to do this, such as linking libjpg or something (I'm not exactly sure how to do this). I really would appreciate some help with this, there's a huge difference in size for the images we're planning to use, from a ~500kb jpg file to a ~3.5mb png file. Thanks, guys.

• How do you manage feature requests and software changes?

  I am a Software Engineer and over the past few years I have become the de-facto software project manager simply because there isn't one. So to keep our sanity in the R&D/Engineering department, customers have become accustomed to coming to me with their requests. I have no experience in this realm so it is my first time acting as a project manager for software projects. I have managed other things but not software. So, how do you manage software projects and mark priorities? Requests come in at infrequent intervals so we very well could be working on something for someone else and then another person comes in with a "rush" job that needs working on. Is it easier to just say First Come, First Serve or is it the person with the most money?

• Terminal as desktop background instead of wallper

  I have come to conclusion that all my needs from nautilus is satisfied with terminal and last file manager. It also dismisses the need for multiple nautilus instances, which makes mess when I forgot how I meant to use different workspaces. The next step for my simplification would be to get rid of any possibility to open nautilus. Also I thought that my interaction with computer is file centred, therefore it makes sense to leave file manager in background of applications. Are there any ways to make terminal as desktop background with which I could interact?

  Hi All, We have a problem related Exchange Server 2010 Activesync.My problem is;When I connecting to activesync from outside, I am receiving the following error. ExRCA is testing Exchange ActiveSync. The Exchange ActiveSync test failed. Test Steps Attempting to resolve the host name mail.xxxxx.com in DNS. The host name resolved successfully. Additional Details IP addresses returned: xx.0.x3.4 Testing TCP port 443 on host mail.x.com to ensure it's listening and open. The port was opened successfully. Testing the SSL certificate to make sure it's valid. The SSL certificate failed one or more certificate validation checks. Test Steps Validating the certificate name. • Broken BURG install after backup/restore

  Long story short: BURG is stuck in text mode and I can't seem to get it back to the eye-candy. I have purged and then re-installed to no avail. I am running 12.04. The long story: I originally installed onto 12.04 using Super-boot-manager (BURG-manager) and then stopped using it in favour of GRUB because I had too many entries. I then had to backup and restore Ubuntu (partition was deleted and re-created) due to unrelated issues. I re-installed GRUB2 and booted into Ubuntu to re-install BURG, but after re-booting it appears to be stuck in text mode (looks exactly like GRUB 1). Any ideas? I know I'm not supposed to be using it on 12.04 (I think) but it worked before, so what's up?

• At what point would you drop some of your principles of software development for the sake of more money?

  I'd like to throw this question out there to interestingly see where the medium is. I'm going to admit that in my last 12 months, I picked up TDD and a lot of the Agile values in software development. I was so overwhelmed with how much better my development of software became that I would never drop them out of principle. Until...I was offered a contracting role that doubled my take home pay for the year. The company I joined didn't follow any specific methodology, the team hadn't heard of anything like code smells, SOLID, etc., and I certainly wasn't going to get away with spending time doing TDD if the team had never even seen unit testing in practice. Am I a sell out? No, not completely... Code will always been written "cleanly" (as per Uncle Bob's teachings) and the principles of SOLID will always be applied to the code that I write as they are needed. Testing was dropped for me though, the company couldn't afford to have such a unknown handed to the team who quite frankly, even I did create test frameworks, they would never use/maintain the test framework correctly. Using that as an example, what point would you say a developer should never drop his craftsmanship principles for the sake of money/other benefits to them personally? I understand that this can be a very personal opinion on how concerned one is to their own needs, business needs, and the sake of craftsmanship etc. But one can consider that for example testing can be dropped if the company decided they would rather have a test team, than rather understand unit testing in programming, would that be something you could forgive yourself for like I did? So given that there is something you would drop, there usually should be an equal cost in the business that makes up for what you drop - hopefully, unless of course you are pretty much out for lining your own pockets and not community/social collaborating ;). Double your money, go back to RAD? Or walk on, and look for someone doing Agile, and never look back...

I am looking for a way to automatically redirect a user to a site and maintain the redirect site as the referral site. Let me explain the process and what is needed in a step by step format. User clicks on a desired link in an email User is navigated to testdomain.com User is automatically redirected to test.com/landing test.com sees testdomain.com as the referral site Data is gathered via Google Analytics I am unsure as if this PHP code will take care of it, or not - header("Location: http://google.com", true, 303); I could test and that is most likely what I am going to do. But I would like to understand a little more as to WHY this would or WHY this wouldn't work.

  In Windows I used command-line clipboard copy-and-paste utilities... pclip.exe and gclip.exe These were UnixUtils ports for Windows (but they only handled plain text). There were a couple of other native Windows utils which could write/extracy any format. I've looked for something similar in Synaptic Package Manager, but I can't find anything. Is there something there, that I've missed? ... or maybe this is available in bash scripting? The type of utility I'd like will be able to read/write via std-in/std-out or file-in/file-out, and handle Unicode/Rich-text/Picture/etc clipboard formats... Late Edit: NB: I'm not after a clipboard manager.

  I can fully appreciate the benefits of a package manager like Python PIP, Node npm, or Ruby Gems since they're doing much more than adding files to your applications path. Maybe I'm missing the point, or I'm being obtuse, but here are the negatives I can see: Separate step when building a project Separate dependency to install via another package manager (yo dawg) More clutter in the projects root with bower.json and / or .bowerrc Reliance on the registry being up to date, correct, and available Some imports / references to things like images won't work The positives I can see are these: I don't have to download the dependencies manually Optionally install packages as part of scaffolding based on user prompts or the like I'd really like to know of any benefits I'm unaware of, and I should say I'm not trying to be provocative I genuinely want to know.

• VMPlayer 9, Xubuntu 12.10, Rails Development - Freezing frequently

  I have a new Vizio Ultrabook that came with Windows 7. I develop Rails applications, and it's a pain to do that in windows, so I setup a Xubuntu VM with 1GB ram and 2 CPU cores. I basically keep the VM open all the time and have enough memory not to worry. Sometimes I pause the VM. For the first few days, everything was fine. The fourth day, Xubuntu froze up while running a test (with Guard and RSpec). I didn't think much of it and restarted the VM and went on my way. The freezes started becoming more frequent, though. I don't think they are only when I run a test, but often they are. It'll happen quickly, too. Startup VM, save file, test runs, it freezes, all within 5 minutes. Of note: the VM is using a shared folder from Windows (where the code is). This may be the problem. Any other people experience something like this?

• Why are the packages found with apt-get always horribly out of date?

  Whenever I use the package manager, it can only ever find really old versions of stuff. Example: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install postgresql The best it can do is version 8.4 (3 years out of date). Trying to get a later version, I get: $ sudo apt-get install postgresql-9.1 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package postgresql-9.1 I experience the same issue whenever I use the package manager, so I usually just download and build things from source. How can I make it find up-to-date software?

However, as you can imagine this is a security nightmare if it were to be made public - so I was thinking of two options to protect my stack: 1) A CHROOT jail - but this in itself wouldn't be enough to prevent directory traversal / file access. 2) AppArmor ? So my question is really, how could I protect my stack from any nasties that could come from: A) Compiling unknown code using gcc B) Executing the compiled code
