  • Responsive width for iPhone

    This is my first time building a responsive site, and as I tailor the CSS for the iPhone I'm running into a problem. The styles all apply correctly, the text changes size and the wrapper changes widths. The problem is the iPhone browser still opens up at a huge width, see the screenshot: I'm using @media all and (max-device-width: 480px) {} to set the specific iPhone css. body {width:;} doesn't work.   • How to bridge Debian guest VM to VPN via Cisco AnyConnect Client running on Windows Vista host

    I am running Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client version 2.5.3054 on a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (version 6.0.6002) Service Pack 2. I am running the VMware Player version 4.0.2 build-591240. The host operating system running under VMware Player is Debian 6.0.2.1 i386. The laptop is connected to a wireless connection, and I can browse the web from Windows Vista using Firefox just fine. I am able to boot into the Debian VM and open up a browser and access websites on the WAN from within the VM just fine. I can ping real Linux hosts on my LAN via: ping <lan_system>.local where <lan_system> is the hostname returned from uname -a on that system on my LAN. From a DOS CMD shell, I am able to ping hosts that exist on the remote network served by the Cisco AnyConnect Client's VPN network (and without the .local suffix applied as above): ping <remote_system> However, from within the Debian VM, I expect to be able to also ping those same remote hosts (<remote_system>) that are tunnelled over the VPN set up by Cisco AnyConnect Client. Let's say that I can ping a <remote_system> called flubber from a DOS CMD prompt just fine.   • Synchronizing audio and video using MP4Box / ffmpeg to concatenate files

    I have two H.264 encoded MPEG-4 files that I need to concatenate. I have been using MP4Box for this task by first ensuring the files are encoded identically (even went so far as to compare output from h264_parse on their video tracks) and then concatenating with this command: MP4Box -cat file1.mp4 -cat file2.mp4 output_file.mp4 This works and the output file is playable, but on playback in Quicktime or VLC the second video's audio starts too soon, making the entire second part of the concatenated file out of sync. I have tried reencoding the output through ffmpeg with -vcodec copy and -acodec copy but the sync issue persists. I have also tried converting to MPEG-2 format first, concatenating with a simple cat file1.mpg file2.mpg > output.mpg and reencoding the result with ffmpeg. This was even worse. I know that I can pass commands to MP4Box to adjust the start time of the audio track, but I am trying to do this programmatically for any input video (in the same encoding of course). I am looking for possible solutions that would not require human intervention / manual adjustments. Or, at least, an understanding of what is happening to make the second part of the concatenated video go out of sync.

  • Xbox 360 formatting for MP4 h.264?

    For the life of me, I can't get the Xbox 360 to recognize anything other than a WMV. It's full updated with Xbox Live and I even added all the Video apps (Zune, Netflix, etc) just to see if it would force some sort of codec update. I'm using handbrake, at the moment, to try and convert an mkv with subtitles. Handbrake burns the subtitles into the video for me, which is important. I can't figure out what is missing though, as the Xbox refuses to acknowledge my MP4s. Here's the VLC codec info output: As far as I can tell, this is EXACTLY what the xbox supports. I don't want to convert every video twice by throwing it through Windows Movie Maker just to get it to WMV. None of the converters mentions above output to WMV and I don't like WMV since it's not as universal as MP4. I've tried changing the container name manually to M4V, MOV, and AVI to see if I can trick the Xbox... no beans. The video displays perfectly in WMP, of course. If I convert it to WMV, suddenly it works fine. But I don't find this acceptable, as I know the Xbox is supposed to support other filetypes. If anyone knows why my Xbox won't play anything but WMVs, I would be very appreciative to know why! It's driving me nuts. The only other information I can think to include is that it's about 3 years old and of the cheapest variety (Xbox Arcade). I've added a hard drive, xbox live, and have thoroughly updated it. Maybe there's a specific video update I'm unaware of??

I have another computer that has a resolution of about 1200x1024 that I use to vnc into the server (I use the default ubuntu vnc viewer). Now everything works fine except there are annoying scrollbars in the viewer because the server's desktop resolution is so much higher than the viewer's. Is there a way to: 1) Scale the server's desktop down to the viewer's resolution. I know there will be a loss of image quality, but I am willing to try it out. This should be something like how windows media player or vlc scales down the window (and does some interpolation of pixels). 2) Automatically shrink the resolution of the server to the client's when I connect and scale the resolution back when I disconnect. This seems like a less attractive solution. 3) Any other solution that gurus out there use? I am sure someone has experienced this before (annoying scroll bars) so there must be a solution out there.
