• Configure (Apple) Mail to delete email from IMAP server after specified time

  I am using a corporate mail account which is synchronized via IMAP to both my desktop client and my iPhone, which is exactly the way I like it. However, the account has a limited quota. With POP3 access, this was not a problem, as POP3 clients could be configured to remove messages from server after specified time. This option is missing from my Apple Mail IMAP account configuration pane. Is there a way to replicate this feature with an IMAP account, either on the client, or on the server side? If not, I will probably have to move old messages manually to some local folder on my Mac. Is there a method to retain a single-click searchability of both archived and current mail folders together?

• Desktop Properties Background selection problems

  From the Desktop of my XP Home Edn SP3 system, under the Right-Click Menu Properties, the [Desktop] tab, of the 'Display Properties' window shows a selection list for the Desktop's Background image. For me this list has become frozen and its slider (at right) will not move. The [Browse] button and the 'Position' dropdown list (whether the selected image is centred, stretched, etc) are also greyed out. I can still use both the Color dropdown list at the right of the Background list and the [Customize Desktop] button below it, and make any changes as desired. What's gone wrong. I'm guessing maybe a registery setting or I've deleted a file somewhere, but haven't found the cause as yet. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

• Windows 8.1 reset

  I recently had a massive crash on my Windows 8.1 partition, which has rendered it (practically) unusable. I tried to do a refresh, but the problem is, I have a Windows 8 install disk, not 8.1, and thus it didn't work. I also do not have any system restore points/backups of any sort, but I have managed to move my files off. Also, I do not know where my product key is (and cannot find it online), so a clean reinstall would not work. My question is, is there any way to change my Windows 8 disc into an 8.1 disc to allow me to refresh/reset my PC, or is there any other way to do this (aside from repurchasing?) Thanks!

• Looking for "pad" for my keyboard + mouse in a multi-monitor setup

  I've got 2 large monitors. My keyboard and mouse are in the middle of my desk which is appropriate for work on both monitors but when I want to focus on one of them only (say that I'm writing in MS Word on the right monitor), I'd like to move my keyboard and mouse to the right. I can do that manually but because of all the wires and other things, it is quite inconvenient when done frequently. I'm looking for something that I would put under both my keyboard and my mouse and that would slide to one side or the other easily. Is there anything like that available on the market?

• Amazon S3 - Storage Class and Server Side Encryption

  Ahhh! I am using Amazon S3 for some low price storage to clear down out SAN. I created the bucket and created a root folder. I set the storage class to standard and server side encryption AES. I started a copy job to move the files, some files copied over and i checked the files: Reduced Redundancy Encryption set to none WTF? So i deleted all files and folders. I manuallyed created the folder structure and again set the storage class and encryption level. I coped some files and bamm, still showing (at a file level as Reduced and no encryption). So my question is this, is it really raid'd and encrypted just not showing it properly (as the root folder is, how can the file not be??) or (b) am i being a huge tool and missing something?

• How to bring back a far right chromeless window?

  Accidentally some windows goes far right, and "goes out of" to the monitor. I know keyboard shortcuts to move it back when the windows have a title bar. But that windows (HTC Home and Rainlendar) don't have title bar, doesn't appears in windows TaskBar or TaskManager. I've tryed restart windows; to close and reopen that software; change the resolution to very low, and then to very high; but it doesn't works... I know that I can dig in the settings files of that programs, but I think interesting discover how to bring back that windows so I can use that technique if that problem appears again with another softwares too.   In the past I've been using putty to ssh into my schools fedora computers to do HW, but now I recently put fedora on my computer, and I want make it so that I can ssh to my fedora computer from my school too. I looked through a tutorial, and was able to -make the private key and public key -make a passphrase -move to public key to my school's system -chmod 700 the public key now when I try to ssh into my own computer from school it gives me an error that says I cannot resolve my hostname and name or service unknown I don't know what to do from here, the tutorial was no help after this.

Somebody in my group created folder2 in my home directory and then left for vacation. I can't delete the folder... I can't move it... can't change permissions on it. How can I get rid of it? My sysadmin has no clue.

  I was thinking, should there be any difference in expectation of the page fault rate on CPU-bound vs I/O bound processes? At first I thought maybe we could, since CPU-bound processes would likely be using more memory accesses per time quantum, so I expect it would move from locality to locality faster. At the same time, the CPU-bound process is probably given a larger working set... but this doesn't affect the fault overhead as it hits a new locality IF this wasn't pre-paged in. Is there actually any real difference in the page fault rates or am I just musing about something nonexistent? And if there is, how would it impact a real-world OS like linux?

  My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. Please kindly inform me what I should look for in web hosts for this kind of application.

• Received a RAMPAGE IV FORMULA MOBO. Possible CPU Socket problems

  I recently received a Rampage IV Formula MOBO in a trade. From everything I read online this seems like a pretty nice piece of hardware. There's one thing I'm worried about though. It appears as though the socket where the CPU goes might have some bent/missing pins. I'm not exactly a computer expert and I wanted to know if this could be any sort of problem. I would post a picture but I apparently don't have enough rep for that... Also, if I did want to move my current rig onto the new MOBO would it even be worth it? • Windows 8 Metro Applications not working

  I have been using Windows 8 now for the past 2 weeks, and have had some interesting experiences with it. At first, nothing on it worked, but after uninstalling Lenovo One Key Theater, and it worked again for a bit. But then the metro apps stopped working, but after uninstalling Kaspersky, they started working again. But now it is doing it again. Whenever I try to open a metro app, the app screen comes up (lets use store as an example), but the icon and the spinner move from the centre of the screen to the top left, and just spins on for ever and never loads, does anyone know what could be causing it, or at least how to check it? Out of interest, the camera app still works fine.

  What factors into choosing a distribution server for transactional replication? In our topology, we've always had the distributor reside on the publishing server. We rarely generate snapshots and performance is good enough, so this is okay for us today. One of our instances is moving to a cluster, so we need to move the distributor off for resilience/symmetry. Right now our two choices are to use a server physically close to the publishers, or our single subscription server. Our publisher is in our main office, and our subscriber is in a colocation facility off-site which our ISP runs. We have a pretty good line to it. The reason we're even considering the latter is to save work and licensing costs.

• Can I insert rows next to a locked column in Excel?

  If I lock cells A1:A3000, is there a way to insert rows in columns B-Z? I highlight them and I don't get the option to insert even though it is selected in the lock options. (Bottom line is that I need column A static, not to move.) Any ideas? Is it even possible? Better yet, is there any way to have formulas in column A static, as I insert rows in column B? Column A formulas change cell location when I do so.

  I would like to run ubuntu on my external hard drive. I have got virtual box installed in the external hard drive and made a machine named ubuntu and installed the latest ubuntu version which i got from the .iso download. Now after much juggling around i got ubuntu running on the machine which i did the whole installation. When i move it to another machine the virtual box just woudnt open. • How do you setup 64-bit PHP5 with APC?

  I followed this # script on my webhost's wiki to setup a custom install of PHP5, but now theyre telling me they need to move my account to a 64-bit server, and I have no idea how to set this up. APC needs the PHP5 installation to use cgi/fastcgi. I Dunno how that applies to 64-bit or what other considerations need to be made. Does anyone have any idea how to do this, or by least changing the #script to compile using the 64-bit PHP. I'm learning so much from this site, thanks for your help.

  I have 2 web servers (1 live and other backup), the issue I have is our storage is rapidly running out. All the data on the server is used by our customers and new documents are uploaded to the server daily. So nothing can be deleted as it's always in use. We use a flat file structure with no database. I'm seeking solutions or ideas for the best place to move the our data to. The data has to be secure and needs to run on a linux environment. • Windows 8 delete key always delete file permanently

  Don't know why, but now my Delete key works the same as Shift + Delete which shows a 'Do you want to delete XXX permanently dialog. And it does not go through Recycle Bin anymore. How so? I am using the Windows 8 x64 edition. Update: My recycle bin setting is fine, that's why this is tricky. But the "Display delete confirmation dialog" check is checked and grayed out. That's one bit that is. The radio button of "Don't move files to recycle bin" is not checked.

• Which IMAP servers support both messages and subfolders in a folder?

  Hi, I currently have a POP server for email, which is delivered to a Thunderbird client. This Thunderbird client stores email locally into a hierarchy of subfolders containing both emails and subfolders. I now want to access this locally stored email from other clients. My first solution was to create an IMAP mailbox and move all the messages to the IMAP server. I wasn't able to do it because my IMAP server refused to create subfolders in folders already containing email. As the original hierarchy is quite complex, I can't modify it to try to get along with this limitation. Are there any Linux IMAP server that would accept having both messages and subfolders in a folder?

This is a question about the definition of a network from the OSI / TCP/IP model point of view: From one point of view, those are two L2 networks connected with a bridge. • Network Service Account not Inherited in ACL

  I have a problem with files that are being moved into a folder that is set to replace permissions on child objects for the Network Service account. The process is that a media file is uploaded to a website, and is encoded by a piece of software. This moves the file to a folder but for some reason the files that get moved there don't inherit the Network Service account in security permissions. If I manually move a file into the folder the permission is inherited. I have used the effective permissions tool to check the Network Service account security permissions on the parent folder but this shows that there is nothing overriding it - the account has full permissions. Can try and supply more info if required, but any answers grealty appreciated!

  I bought this laptop used from a friend. The laptop has 500gb of storage; however, the drive is partioned. The C: drive has an allocated space of 50gb whereas the partition has 396gb allocated to it. How do i either take some of the space from the partition and move it to the C: drive, or get rid of the partition? I've done some searching and people say I'm supposed to be able to use "Disc Management" to "delete volume," but when i right click on the partition the "delete volume" is not enabled.   Hello, I currently run a server at home consisting of SQL Server 2008 .net Framework 2010 VPN Connection ASP.net Web Services running around 5-6 applications supporting a financial trading system that i regularly use. THe only user is me. Recently the requirement to have these applications running in a 24/7 100% uptime (or 99%) environment has become important. No longer can I both meet this requirement and host my server at home on my network - so i am looking to move to a dedicated hosting company. After some research, the only real companies I can find offering such services are geared towards company web-space hosting. I don't need 1TB+ bandwidth, what i need is CPU, Memory and as much control over the environment as possible. Does anyone have any examples of such a service? Thanks in advance.

• Tuning Nvidia driver in Nvidia X Server Settings in Ubuntu to avoid tearing?

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on an Asus at3ion motherboard. I have installed the proprietary nvidia drivers and everything is working fine, but it's a but ragged when I move windows etc. I think the issue is called tearing. There is flickering and the window isn't refreshed smoothly. The ion acceleration works fine (I am running xbmc at 1080p completely without any issues). Please note I am not interested in any fancy effects etc, I just want the graphics to be smooth and nice. How can I tune the nvidia driver for this, i.e., what do I need to change in the Nvidia X Server Settings?
