  • Render an SSRS report with a Map as an image map without actually having a ReportViewer on the page

    I have a report that has a Map with spatial data. Clicking an object on that map sends you to other pages on the site. I have tried a few different ways of displaying the report: If I put a ReportViewer on the actual page, the page sometimes takes 10+ seconds to load, but the report viewer creates a fully operable image map. If I create a ReportViewer in the code behind, I can use the Render method to to format the report as HTML4.0 and get the streamids from which I can extract the image (painfully). This is pretty fast (1-2 seconds), but only gives me an image, no image map. I can get a very similar functionality as the above example by using rendering extensions on the report URL to create an image and then set an image's source to this url. This is the fastest method, but still does not create an image map. So is there a way to create an image map from the report without having to use the ReportViewer? Or a way to substantially speed up the Report Viewer?

  • msvsmon is locking up my pdbs

    During developement of my media center plugin (which has a few custom build steps to gac stuff and such) msvsmon has a rather annoying behaviour. First compilation usually goes well, but subsequent compilations complain about myplugin.pdb being locked Error 1 Unexpected error creating debug information file 'C:\Users\sam\source\myfile.PDB' -- 'C:\Users\sam\source\obj\Debug\myfile.pdb: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. If I exit VS and nuke the object directory, I am able to compile again. Also, if I kill off msvsmon.exe I am able to compile again (but can not debug) Has anyone seen this error? Are there any workarounds? I already disabled live semantic errors, just in case.

    so im having problems with adding another primary key to my table. i have 3 columns: 1. Account ID (Identity) 2. EmailID 3. Data field when i made the table i had this to make the Account ID and the Email ID unique PRIMARY KEY (AccountID, EmailID) i thought that would make my emailid unique, but then after i tried inserting another row with the same emailid it went through. so i thought i missed something out. now for my question: IF, i had to use alter, How do i alter the table/PK Constraint to modify the EmailID field and make it Unique IF i decided to drop the table and made a new one, how do i make those two primary keys uniqe?   • Upgrade from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5 problems

    I’m trying to upgrade our solution from VS2005 .NET 2.0 to VS2008 .NET 3.5. I converted the solution using VS2008 conversion wizard. All the projects (about 50) remained targeting to .NET Framework 2.0., moreover if I’m changing target framework manually for one of the projects, all referenced dll (i.e. System, System.Core, System.Data, etc. are still pointing to Framework 2.0. The only way to completely change targeting framework I found is to remove these references and refer them again using proper version of framework. Doing it manually is not best choice I think. 50 projects ~ 10 references each ~ 0.5 minutes for changing each reference is about 5 hours to complete. Am I missing something? Are there any other ways of converting full solution from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5? Thank you.

  • C#: standard Windows menu bars in Windows Forms

    I noticed that adding a MenuStrip (from the VS Toolbox) to my form design doesn't yield a menu bar like many native Windows applications. Instead I get a menu bar like VS's own. None of the style settings for MenuStrip appear to mimic the much more common native menu bar. Is there a way to add a menu bar to my Windows Forms application that looks the same as the one you see in Notepad, Task Manager, Windows Explorer and others? (Preferably with the designer, but I wouldn't mind adding it programmatically either.)

  • SQL Server Table Partitioning, what is happening behind the scenes?

    I'm working with table partitioning on extremely large fact table in a warehouse. I have executed the script a few different ways. With and without non clustered indexes. With indexes it appears to dramatically expand the log file while without the non clustered indexes it appears to not expand the log file as much but takes more time to run due to the rebuilding of the indexes. What I am looking for is any links or information as to what is happening behind the scene specifically to the log file when you split a table partition.

  • User control always crashes Visual Studio

    I'm trying to open a user control in one of our projects. It was created, I believe, in VS 2003, and the project has been converted to VS2008. I can view the code fine, but when I try to load the designer view, VS stops responding and I have to close it with the task manager. I have tried leaving it running for several minutes, but it does not do anything. I ran "devenv /log" but didn't see anything unusual in the log. I can't find a specific error message anywhere. Any idea what the problem might be? Is there a lightweight editing mode I might be able to use or something? The reason I need to have a look at the visual representation of this control is to decide where to insert some new components. I've tried googling it and searching SO, but either I don't know what to search or there is nothing out there about this. Any help is appreciated. (The strangest thing is that the user control seems to load fine in another project which references, but VS crashes as soon as I even so much as click on it in that project.)

If the connection is successful, I can verify that ServerConnection.ConnectTimeout is set to 2 (seconds), but when I supply a bogus name for the SQL Server instance, it still attempts to connect to it for ~ 15 seconds (which is I believe the default timeout value).     I'm interested in returning an empty result set from SQL Server stored procedures in certain events. The intended behaviour is that a L2SQL DataContext.SPName().SingleOrDefault() will result in CLR null value. I'm presently using the following solution, but I'm unsure whether it would be considered bad practice, a performance hazard (I could not find one by reading the execution plan), or if there is simply a better way: SELECT * FROM [dbo].[TableName] WHERE 0 = 1; The execution plan is a constant scan with a trivial cost associated with it. The reason I am asking this instead of simply not running any SELECTs is because I'm concerned previous SELECT @scalar or SELECT INTO statements could cause unintended result sets to be served back to L2SQL. Am I worrying over nothing?

It says: 'Replace with Direct Cast', which turns the code into the following: ((GridLine) treeListNode.Tag).AdvertiserSeparation = 5; This is great. However, when it encounters code like this: GridLine line = treeListNode.Tag as GridLine; line.AdvertiserSeparation = 5; Resharper simply displays a warning 'Possible System.NullReferenceException', but does not offer me to 'Replace with Direct Cast'. Is there a way to make Resharper offer me this refactoring, since it already has it?

I mean that when SSIS is installed on Windwos Server A, is SSIS able to query data from e.g. one folder containing text files in Windows Server B (under same domain)? I have used only SAP BO Data Integrator ETL tool and it cannot query flat files from another Server: during execution, all files must be located on the Job Server machine that executes the job.

  • Getting a Target to run BEFORE anything else runs when building from Visual Studio

    Hi, I'm trying to get a one-time costly target to run only when building a certain top-level project (that has many dependencies). I have no problem on getting this working from plain msbuild / command line build. I do this with setting and InitialTargets on the project, or alternatively with < BeforeBuild /. The tricky part is with Visual Studio. When I build the same project from VS. VS runs the dependencies before even invoking my .csproj, so my target (which affects how the other projects are built) doesn't get to run until they have already been built. Is there someway to force VS to run a target before invoking the dependencies? I'm currently working around this, by running the same costly target from my most low-level project (the one that get's always built...) by using: Condition=" $(BuildingInsideVisualStudio) " Any ideas on how to get this done "properly"? Again, I'm looking for a solution that will work FROM VS.
