  • Can I set up OpenVPN on two or more machines so that they can each act as client and server?

    The question summarises what I want to achieve. In more detail: I have a Windows XP Pro PC at a work location that I want to be able to access my home Windows XP Pro PC and other home computers from. But I also want to be able to connect to the work PC from home. I think the term generally used is a "mesh" network. Can I do this with OpenVPN ? If so how would I do it? What are the most important things to remember to do? EDIT: The work Windows XP Pro PC is largely managed by IT Dept, I do have local admin rights to install things. Some settings are disabled. My main concern was firewalls and port forwarding on the work PC. Any suggestions?

  • Basic OpenVPN setup

    I am attempting to connect 2 win7 (x64+ x32) computers (there will be 4 in total) using OpenVPN. Right now they are on the same network but the intention is to be able to access the client remotely regardless of its location. The Problem I am having is I am unable to ping or tracert between the two computers. They seem to be on different subnets even though I have the mask set to 255.255.255.0. The server ends up as 10.8.0.1 255.255.255.252 and the client 10.8.0.6 255.255.255.252. And a third ends up as 10.8.0.10. I don't know if this a Windows 7 problem or something I have wrong in my config. Unfortunately, even today's Acer Revo, built on ION platform is not fast enough for streaming Full HD videos. So what do you think, will new two core CPU make it better, will it be able to show Full HD videos, store them to disk and transfer something over the network at the same time? Will it be able to scale videos from Hulu and YouTube to fullscreen?

    We are currently using Symantec Backup Exec with Desktop and Laptop Option for our Windows clients, time machine for mac and offer simple rsync to linux users, in addition to home folders that are always backed up and available. We are not overly happy with the horrid complexity and multitude of minor bugs in SBE, but "when you don't touch it, it mostly works". Ideally we'd like to offer a real and full backup solution to all clients, but mostly to Linux users, as they don't have a good alternative. I have barely tested Druva on windows, and it is promising in its simplicity and "it just works" looks, but does anyone have experience with it? This post lists some that I will look at.

  • `sh` access denied over ssh connection

    I have an ubuntu server and a windows XP client running Cygwin. The server ssh's into the client and tries to execute a shell script with some params, with the following command: ssh user@IP_ADDR 'sh /home/user/project/clientside 2 5 7 6 9 5 7 IP_ADDR' where IP_ADDR is the IP address of client. However, while doing so, I get the following error: Access is denied. Thinking this might be a user permissions error, I tried running sh /home/user/project/clientside 2 5 7 6 9 5 7 IP_ADDR on the client, on Cygwin, while logged in as user. This works as expected. Then I thought that this might be an error with the login that I use when I ssh into the client. So I executed this instead: ssh user@IP_ADDR 'whoami' and got back user. This happened even after I did chmod -R 777 /home/user/project on the client, in Cygwin. For kicks, I got on Cygwin on the client and did ssh localhost and manually executed sh /home/user/project/clientside 2 5 7 6 9 5 7 IP_ADDR. This worked as expected. However, when I did ssh IP_ADDR from Cygwin and did ssh localhost and manually executed sh /home/user/project/clientside 2 5 7 6 9 5 7 IP_ADDR, I get the same Access is denied. error. Why is this happening? How can I fix this? By the way, both the server and the client have each other's rsa public key for passwordless ssh

  • How does one guarantee a remote client the same local IP address every time when connecting to a VPN?

    I need to configure a VPN for secure remote access to a PACS serving DICOM radiological images. The DICOM standard requires that any clients accessing the PACS must be using a fixed IP address that is pre-registered in PACS. I haven't implemented this solution before and would appreciate any guidance. I believe it should be possible to use RADIUS on the server to authenticate users connecting to the VPN and with it assign each user their own specific local subnet IP address, which would be registered with the PACS. The server runs Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 and the VPN device is a FortiGate 60C. The What would be the best and/or simplest way to set this up?

    Our company has a central NIS configuration that we are using to access our teams servers (Redhat)... The current configuration allows all valid NIS authenticated users to connect to our servers. We cannot update or change something on the NIS Master Server... so... Is there a way to use netgroups or some other configuration to allow our team members to authenticate using the NIS server but still restrict access to all other users? Thanks!

    I have a homenetwork 192.168.1.0/24 with gteway 192.168.1.1 and a remote network with the same parameters. Now I want to create a OpenVPN tunnel between those networks. I have no problems with Windows, because Windows routes everything to 192.168.1.0/24 except 192.168.1.1 throught the tunnel.     Yahoo Mail is sending our server's transactional emails to the Spam folder, even though we have taken quite a few anti-spam steps. By contrast, Gmail allows the messages through to the inbox just fine. Here are the things which are in place: SPF is set up for the domain holsteinplaza.com. Yahoo reports spf=pass in the message headers. DKIM is set up for the domain holsteinplaza.com. Yahoo reports dkim=pass in the message headers. We have a proper reverse DNS entry for the sending mail server. Name - IP matches IP - Name. Neither Domainkeys nor SenderID are set up. From what I can tell, DKIM is the way of the future, and there is not much to be gained from adding Domainkeys or SenderID. Following are the headers.     I am using gmail as my email provider, and I only have gmail servers for my mx records. I don't like the 500 message per day cap. To address this issue I would like to run postfix on my Linux machine to only send email, incoming port 25 blocked by my firewall. I can send email, however google marks all messages sent with postfix as SPAM. How do I make sure that people know email sent with postfix is valid?

    Here's the situation: My org has a Check Point firewall. I can only connect to it using Windows, despite making attempts with Openswan. Is there a way I can use the Windows box to VPN into my org and then use the Windows box to NAT other local workstations into the remote network?     Scenario: I am implementing failed over for a network node, so my idea is to make the master node listens on a broadcast ip address and port. If the master node fails, another failover node will start listening on this broadcast address (and port) and take over. Question: My concern is that I will be using a broadcast IP address just for a single node: the master. The failover node only binds if the master fails, in other words, almost never. In terms of network/traffic overhead, is it bad to talk to a single node through a broadcast address or the network somehow is smart enough to know that nobody else is listening to this broadcast address and kind of treat it as a unicast in terms of overhead? My concern is that I will be flooding my network with packets from this broadcast address even thought I am just really talking to a single node (the master). But I can't use unicast because the failover node has to be able to pick up the master stream quickly and transparently in case it fails.

  • How disable Apple iCal from popping up with every email invite/update?

    My iCal has new behavior (since upgrading to SL). Every time I get an ical attachment in Mail, the iCal app flies up in my face. I don't see any way to turn off this behavior and it's amazingly disruptive when I'm busy with other activities. Help? EDIT: I want iCal to add the invitations, so when I cmd-tab to the app those items are in the queue awaiting approval. What I am hoping to learn is how to stop the popup action forcing the application to become the top-level window.

    Hi, I was about to download the PC Game Mafia II ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_II ). The site said that do i have steam and i said no ... it asked whether to download and i gave yes. After downloading a 1.5mb exe it executed, dowloaded and installed additional files. After that the program opened. It gave me a feeling that that could have written in flex. if some body could clear this then that could be nice... besides, i went to the mafia ii official site to download the demo and again it asked whether i have steam installed and i said yes. then the firefox application launch dialog box appeared. and again i had this question how to launch an application using firefox... ?? may be i should ask this as a separate question but since it is associated with the above question i asked it here...

The problem is, at times the process that is running on screen gets stopped and my application crashes because of that. Now I want to be notified whenever that 'faye server' or 'mailman server' is stopped that is running on screen. I am using Digital Ocean and I have already setup postfix server.

  • Anyone know of a command-line torrent client to run on a server?

    I have an account with a torrent site that gives and takes credits when you upload/download respectively. My ideal setup to keep my credits going would be some kind of media box that keeps and manages my music and videos etc. Ideally, I'd like this to be a headless box that I could just telnet into and have it run torrents that way. This server would be running ubuntu server by the way.
