• Lync server 2010 Active Directory Preparation with a Windows Server 2003 DC

  I'm trying to install Lync server 2010 but i'm stuck for a while now with the "Active Directory Preparation" part of the Lync server 2010 installation. The "Prepare Schema" fails with the following error: "Step 1: Prepare Schema Run once per deployment. Extends the schema for Lync Server. Not Available: Failure occurred while attempting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." screenshot: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 The situation: 1 server with Windows Server 2003 (x86), which is the only Domain Controller (DC) 1 server with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) where Lync should be installed. First I have found that the DFL/FFL were not correct: On the DC (server2003) I have changed the Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003 and also the Forest Functional Level to Windows Server 2003. If I check these settings on the Server2008 with Active Directory Domains and Trusts, I see indeed that the DFL and FFL are being set to Windows Server 2003. (Windows Server 2003 is the minimum required for Lync server 2010) I tried the Lync AD Preparation again but still got the same message: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 I'm logged in on the Server2008 and Server2003 with the domain administrator account. If I check "Active Directory Users and Computers" and go to the directory Users and watch the properties from the Administrator User then it is also a Member of: Domain Admins Domain Users Enterprise Admins Schema Admins Group Policy Creator Owners The firewall on the server2008 is turned off, still nog working So now my question is: what should I do to make the Lync setup (Active Directory Preparation) work? (I would appreciate clear step-by-step suggestions to check.) Thanks in advance. • CD/DVD burn error in ImgBurn and Nero

  I am getting the errors shown below when I try to burn a CD/DVD on my DVD writer. I am seeing this error for every CD/DVD I try to burn. I am not able to write any CDs or DVDs using ImgBurn.   I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?

• Does any upgrade version of Visual Studio require an installed development tool?

  I'm wondering this from a legal standpoint and an installation-issue standpoint. I'm considering pre-ordering Visual Studio 2010 for future use in some home projects, and you cannot pre-order a full version, only an upgrade version. On the preorder page, it says: Eligible for upgrade with any previous version of Visual Studio or any other developer tool. In reality, I think it won't require anything installed, but from a legal standpoint, is this inclusive with development tools such as Eclipse? After installing Windows 7 on this PC, Eclipse is currently the only IDE I have installed. But really anything could be considered a developer tool, such as Notepad++ or Kaxaml. How has this worked in regards to previous upgrade versions?

• grep pattern interpretted differently in 2 different systems with same grep version

  We manufacture a linux appliance for data centers, and all are running fedora installed from the same kickstart process. There are different hardware versions, some with IDE hard drives and some SCSI, so the filesystems may be at /dev/sdaN or /dev/hdaN. We have a web interface into these appliances that show disk usage, which is generated using "df | grep /dev/*da". This generally works for both hardware versions, giving an output like follows: /dev/sda2 5952284 3507816 2137228 63% / /dev/sda5 67670876 9128796 55049152 15% /data /dev/sda1 101086 11976 83891 13% /boot However, for one machine, we get the following result from that command: Binary file /dev/sda matches It seems that its grepping files matching /dev/*da for an unknown pattern for some reason, only on this box that is seemingly identical in grep version, packages, kernel, and hardware. I switched the grep pattern to be "/dev/.da" and everything works as expected on this troublesome box, but I hate not knowing why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas? Or perhaps some other tests to try?

How is the USB port connected to processor ultimately? through PCI bus etc? Why do we have so many buses? What was it like before SCSI/IDE came?   I am having an issue setting up Remote Web in SBS 2011 Essentials. Everything works except Remote Desktop, which keeps giving me SSL cert errors. Is there a way to override the TS Gateway's decision to not allow cert errors? If not, the specific error I am getting is that Remote Desktop is trying to connect using the DNS short name of our domain controller, but the certificate uses the FQDN, and as such, it reports an error and the connection never happens. Any ideas?

I am running Samba 3.0.23d on FreeBSD is release 7.1 I changed the policies as described above but still cannot connect to the samba server with the windows 7 or a server 2008. • fedora 11 server won't boot from SATA disk, won't boot from CD, BIOS configuration problems

  Hi all, Yesterday our fc11 file/print server didn't boot, and had stopped on the BIOS page with a configuration problem. (with a distinct lack of foresight) I reset the BIOS settings to default without recording the message and booted the server. The server ran until it was to be booted this morning, and it was failing to mount the root partition from the SATA disk. It also failed to boot from a known good diagnostics CD. After a few more tries, it now fails part way through the Phoenix - AwardBIOS screen where it is listing the SATA/IDE devices, and it is showing garbage for the identity of one of the disks, which should actually be "none" It looks like the motherboard has gone kaput. The motherboard is an EVGA NF790i, are there any diagnostic tools that I can use to determine this? (as I would prefer to not send the motherboard back, only to discover that it is the RAM or the CPU) ps I can't get it to boot from the memTest disk, so I can't run that diagnostic. Thanks!

  I'm trying to create partitions for a slackware instalation on my computer (beside Windows 7) just to have a nice distro running mostly for school but when I run fdisk and print the partitiontable I get the following message: Partition x does not end on cylinder boundary. (in my case x = 1, just using x to help googlers). I must say I'm using a raid card (AMCC 3ware 9500S SATA RAID Controller). Maybe this is the problem. How can I fix this without loosing any data?

  I am trying to connect to a SVN server in order to import my project into it with svn+ssh authentication method. I am using the NetBeans IDE (6.8) with subversion plugin installed on Windows XP SP2. I have plink installed with its path set in the Windows PATH env variable. When I use the similar looking repository URL (XXXX and YYYY replaced with sensible things) svn+ssh://XXXX@YYYY/home/dce/svn/trunk along with this external tunnel command plink -l <myUserName> -i C:\\privateKey.ppk I keep getting this error: org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException: Network connection closed unexpectedly I searched about it on the Internet and tried many things but didn't work out. I was planning to use Fedora 14 on my desktop with GCC 4.4 to do the development with Eclipse IDE. And then later I want to deploy the executables to CentOS 5.2 or 5.5 The production env will have GCC 4.4 as well. Since both Fedora and CentOS are RHEL based, I thought this is possible. • Nexus One USB freezes Vista SP2 Quad Core

  My Nexus One (N1) will occasionally freeze my Vista 32bit SP2 Quad Core 2.4GHz during POST. MB is ASUS P5N-E SLI with 4GB of RAM. The PC will be booting and when I connect the N1 via USB, the boot sequence will freeze, then continue once I unplug the N1 USB link. It happens whether the N1 is in USB debugging mode and when it is not. I'm not sure whether this is an N1 hw/fw issue, system interaction with my PC, or a result of my N1 development environment (I'm using the Eclipse Galileo IDE for Java Developers, primarily compiling to API Level 7. Eclipse has also occasionally frozen although I haven't established N1 USB cause-and-effect on that issue). Is anyone else experiencing these symptom?

  I was instructed to replace the hard drive in an old laptop, a Dell Latitude D505. I'm suspecting that there was a head crash when someone moved the laptop while it was turned on. In the specifications, I found this about the hard drive: 30GB ATA-100; (4200RPM); 40GB ATA-100 (5400RPM); 60GB ATA-100 (4200RPM) *Optional 40GB (5400) 2nd HDD Module for media bay I'm familiar with SATA and IDE, but ATA-100 doesn't ring a bell. What do I have to take into account when I go look for a replacement hard drive?

  I'm using VMware® Workstation v7.0.1 build-227600, I've installed it on my Win7 x64 I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on VMware Whenever I've posted lspci | grep VGA in Ubuntu's Terminal the following info has showed : 00:0f.0 VGA compatible controller: VMware SVGA II Adapter Now , I'm gonna use Ubuntu Visual Effect, so I have to install Video Card Driver. Is it possible to install Video Card Driver in Ubuntu this situation ? BTW, My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

  Possible Duplicate: Can I connect a SATA-II hard drive to a SATA-I connection? Hello everyone One of my system is really old, but I still use it, right now, the HDD is and old IDE drive that is starting to fail (I got to many damaged sectors) and I'm planing to replace it. The motherboard supports Serial ATA 1 and I have a real nice offer on a SATA 2 drive, can I use that drive on a SATA 1 interface (obviously with reduced speed) just like a USB 2.0 device on a 1.0 port? • Hypervisor load on local disks

  Hi, What is the I/O load on the local disk system for the host OS in XenServer ? I can't find this info anywhere. As we have a SAN for the VMs themselves, can we get away with cheap controller / SATA disk in raid-1 for the hypervisor ? We won't boot from the SAN as it seems prone to problems. Thanks, Chris

• Make cloudera-vm work on Oracle VM VirtualBox

  I downloaded this and the instructions say: Important: You must enable the I/O APIC in order to use 64-bit mode. (See http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html.) On newer versions of VirtualBox, it may default to using SATA as the disk interface. This can cause a kernel panic in the VM. Switching to the IDE driver solves this problem. I am running this on Red Hat 64-bit mode (I've also tried on Ubuntu 64-bit with the same result). I pointed to the cloudera-vm image as a startup disk for the VM. I am getting this message: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine ClouderaDevelopment. VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb} Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
