• Setup of SQLServer 2008 want to reboot

  I want to setup a sqlserver 2008 developeredition on my windows-vista notebook but the setup-check want me to reboot first. But this doesn't help after reboot the setup want a reboot again. I got the tip: You can open Regedit, and modify this key"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet?\Control\Session Manager" and delete any value in "PendingFileRenameOperations?" That works for one try, later i have the same strange entries in this particular registry-Key. What could reenter this values?

• Antialias not working in ubuntu lucid lynx 10.04

  I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome). Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more, as you can appreciate from the screenshot: This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding: Used the regular option pane from System-Preference-Appearance-Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. I used the ubuntu start script to make a few tweaks. Thank you in advance for your help! :)

  Hi folks, I cannot connect to the database anymore, I'm getting: Cannot open user default database. Login failed. I have deleted the database during a previous session and then tried to recreate it. But the recreate failed. Now I am stuck with this error, what can I do? Edit: I'm using Windows Authentication Any ideas? Fixed: use the command: sqlcmd -E -d master then type: ALTER LOGIN [Your Windows Login] WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=master GO :)

I just want to type a password once on login and have all rights throughout my session. Also, I'd rather not login as root, but using my own username and settings. Thanks.

  Hi, I switch between a Mac and Ubuntu often. On my Ubuntu box, I use an Apple Aluminum keyboard. I'm interested in Apple's "command" key: ? (I'm not concerned about the hardware control keys) cmd-T opens a browser tab cmd-C, cmd-V for copy/paste, especially in a terminal window control-c maintains the same meaning in terminal (abort) Just switching the control & command keys in Ubuntu would almost get me there, except for the special behaviour of the keys a terminal (Terminal is my most frequently used app). Has it been done? edit: using Gnome, not KDE

  I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently: Web browser (Google Chrome) IDE (Komodo) Terminal (Gnome Terminal) Email (Thunderbird) I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

  I got the home and remote office users connect to the Terminal Server on my Windows Server 2003 that I published securely through Juniper SSL VPN client applet, they use normal internet connection to access the link which pop up the Terminal Server Remote Desktop application, so my question is, how can they print out the document from within their terminal server session ? if it is going through the internal office LAN mapping the printer through Remote Desktop connection is the solution but not for this one. I have installed emacs and cscope successfully: sudo apt-get install emacs sudo apt-get install cscope then run command in the directory of the source code folder in my terminal, and the index files have been produced. cscope-indexer and add the following stuf in .emacs in home/username folder (require 'xcscope)) ) However, there isn't a short-cut ,'CSCOPE', in the emacs ui and when I use ctrl_c + s to use cscope, emacs said it's undefined. What should i do now to make cscope run.

  Quick question: I have a situation where I need to let multiple people on different PCs log into one server 2008 machine as administrator simultaneously over remote desktop. I have the CALs for it, it's just not set up correctly. When one user tries to log in, it boots the other out. What I need is to present to them a different session, just each as logged in as admin. • Accessing a persistent ssh tunnel

  How do I pass commands (shell) to a persistent SSH tunnel rather than open a connection for every instance? I have a Python scraper running on a client server which passes URL variables and shell commands to a remote host via a reverse tunnel (forwarded port), so that the URL's are then executed on the host (python fabric ssh localhost:12345 'browser open URL'). I could make the reverse tunnel persistent but how do I echo the url/command to the session? Update - ControlMaster (built into SSH) solves this one.

• How to turn off the unity launch bar in ubuntu 11.10

  I would like to use the unity option in ubuntu but without the unity sidebar. I've seen how I can select to use just gnome from the login screen but there are some things I like about the unity interface. E.g. From what I've seen I like the integrated application menu with the ubuntu menu up the top that unity option comes with. So I really just want to turn the launch bar off. • Bluetooth not seeing mouse (Fedora)

  I have a Lenovo S10 'netbook' that I've installed Fedora 17 ("LXDE spin") on. So far pretty much everything works great, except, the on-board Bluetooth. lsusb shows the controller present (0a5c:2101 Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth Controller), hcitool dev shows hci0 present, but when I put my mouse ("Lenovo Bluetooth Laser Mouse," which works perfectly paired with a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Lenovo SL500 (with a USB dongle; running Windows 7)) into pairing mode and run hcitool scan (reports "Scanning ..." and, without further information or error message, returns to the shell prompt), blueman-manager, or bluetooth-wizard (from the gnome-bluetooth package) and try to detect the mouse, I get nothing... Frustrating! Thanks anyone who can point me in the right direction!

• Terminal.app fonts broken on Mac Snow Leopard

  About an year ago I installed gnome fonts on my MacBook Pro and I use them for Terminal.app Today I was using Terminal with three windows open and suddenly the app has quit (I don't know if I accidentally pressed command+q) but when I reopened the application fonts looks strange. I had a screenshot taken before the accident I did the same screenshot now and here's the result I don't know what's happened, I tried to reinstall the fonts, restarted the computer, but with no luck. One more thing, I use an external screen, I read some posts regarding font issues with external monitors but I had this monitor before this accident and everything worked fine until now. Please help me to solve this because my eyes were used to that font and now it looks weird to see this different font

• Unable to mount portable hard drive on Ubuntu

  My portable hard drive (WD My Passport), which used to work correctly now does not automount on my Ubuntu system. It does work on a Windows machine or even when plugged into WD HD TV, which is a Linux based device. There's one NTFS partition spanning the whole drive. • How can I auto-connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network?

  I would like my computer to automatically connect to a WPA2-Enterprise network as soon as it boots whenever the network is available, without any action needed by me. The computer already offers to connect, and even remembers the password, but I must still hit 'Enter' to connect. Also, connection does not occur if my login is at the terminal. I would like to automatically connect every time I login, no matter how I do so, unless a more preferred network is available. What is the best way to do this? I am running Fedora 19. A shell script that can be invoked at the terminal would be preferred. Connecting even if the Gnome-desktop has not launched is a must.

• tmux won't run as non root user?

  If I run tmux as root, it runs normally and fully functional. I created a couple users, and it will not run as any of the users. create session failed: : No such file or directory I checked the outside $TERM is xterm and inside $TERM is screen as FAQs suggest that is most common cause of problems.
