I want to make it difficult for another developer / website to make use of my service. What's the best way to restrict access to my service? Use SSL and have the desktop / silverlight app store a token inside of it?

  • Best way to get started with Facebook and Ruby on Rails

    I'm looking to develop my first Facebook application and therefore looking for some advice on where to get started. I've spent a few hours browsing Facebook's Developer Wiki, Facebooker library, looking at the sample chapters in "Developing Facebook Applications with Rails" by Pragmatic Programmers, etc. Since FB is constantly changing their API, and Facebook Connect is newer than the aforementioned book, does anyone have any advice on where to get started?

  • Trying to use json to populate areas of my website using mysql, php, and jquery.

    Ok, so this is my first attempt at doing anything with JSON. I have done a lot with PHP and MySql as well as jQuery and JavaScript...but nothing with JSON. I have some data in a MySql database. In the codes below i am using a PHP file to retrieve the data from the MySql database and using json_encode to format it to JSON. This file is being called by the JavaScript that runs when the page loads (well, it runs on document.ready actually). I then use jQuery to access the JSON keys and values to fill in areas of the page "dynamically". Here is the code snippets i am using (excuse my "noobness" on writing these snippets, still learning all this).     I have a question...I am using Encog framework to train a network using BP. I am training the network using images that has some object say a cat, telling the network which images are cats and which are not. Bellow are my Neural Network results actual=0.1545868370551181 ideal=0.0,actual=0.797896306829758 ideal=1.0,actual=0.1545868370551181 ideal=0.0,actual=0.797896306829758 ideal=1.0 It is my understanding that since different pictures are presented to network some look like cat for example then they should have higher percentage...but i keep getting same percentage for any pic that has a cat which is 0.79 and for other pics i get 0.15...how can i solve this issue!, what is the intuition behind whats going on!   • ASP.NET MVC subdomain shows folder name

    Hi, I'm using godaddy shared hosting, with IIS7, Integrated mode, and published up a bog standard MVC2 app to dev.lazygekko.com created with Visual Web Developer 2010. It all works, however when any of the links are clicked, they point to dev.lazygekko.com/dev/..., dev being the folder it is pointing at. Can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing wrong?     I'm currently on the fence about using or not using jquery. I've spent hours researching the pros and cons of using jquery (or any library for that matter). One of the big selling points of jquery is that it frees a developer from worrying about browser incompatibilities. I've tried to find any documentation on exactly which incompatibilities it overcomes. So far I haven't found any. Can anyone help me out with this.

  • Local development using HTML5 storage

    I am experimenting with HTML5 local storage functionality, but was frustrated to learn that the browser won't allow local storage when the file is local. My guess is that the browser (Chrome in my case, FF too) wants to see a domain rather than a file location. Has anyone here discovered a workaround for developing locally? Perhaps setting up a local domain? That sounds like too much trouble. There should just be a developer option in the browser, grrrrrr.

  • Is it possible to make an online registration process for a course in Google Docs with a cap on registrations?

    I am trying to build an online registration form for an institute I intern at that is running a training programme with multiple courses and hundreds of applicants. I've done registration forms with Google Docs Forms before, but the tricky spot this time round is that I'm trying to put a registration cap on each of the courses. Every person needs to register for one course in every timeslot, and there are seven or so timeslots. However, as seating space in every venue is limited, we would like to cap registrations per course (venue) to 200 per course, after which either a) the applicant will be informed that they need to register for another course in that timeslot if they apply to a full course, or b) ideal case scenario, the option will be greyed out. Is this possible using Google Docs Forms at all? If not, is there a free alternative that might do the job properly?
