  • Python install issue on Mac OS X

    I have been using the standard python that comes with OS X Lion (2.7.2) but I wanted to build a UCS-4 version to handle 4-byte unicode characters better. I had already installed pip and packages like pytz, virtualenv and virtualenvwrapper, etc., and these are installed in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages. My $PATH is /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin. To build a new version of python on the machine (outside of any project specific virtual environments, that will come later), I followed the instructions on this article and managed to build it in /usr/local/bin. The problem is that when I launched a new bash window, I got the following virtualenvwrapper error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader virtualenvwrapper.sh: There was a problem running the initialization hooks. If Python could not import the module virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader, check that virtualenv has been installed for VIRTUALENVWRAPPER_PYTHON=/usr/local/bin/python and that PATH is set properly. The instructions said to move /usr/local/bin to the top of the /etc/paths file, and since then I've noticed some strange issues. I installed pip into /usr/local/bin and now I have assumed that since I'm working in /usr/local/bin, and the newly installed python's site packages is now located in /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages, when I do pip freeze, it should be empty as nothing is installed there yet. However, pip freeze still reports things installed in the old (OS X) site-packages folder. Here's some info after the build: $ which python /usr/local/bin/python $ which pip /usr/local/bin/pip $ echo $PATH /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin When I uninstall a python package with pip, it removes it from the old site-packages folder as expected. When I install it again, instead of installing it in /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages, it installs it in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages (verified by attempting to install it again and receiving Requirement already satisfied (use --upgrade to upgrade): pytz in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages ). How is it getting that path for the old site-packages folder? Why won't it install it in the correct location for the python install it's using? I'm getting several other issues since promoting /usr/local/bin but I think if I understand this I'll be able to get somewhere. Can anyone see what's happening? If you need any more info I'll be happy to provide it.

    we are currently using IIS 8 on our new windows VPS. We have a content management system we install for all our apps we build, but we are finding it incredibly painful as our hosting provider requires that we change the default 404 error page from the default settings everytime we create a site. Is there an easy way within IIS to automatically apply this same default directory within each website so we dont need to edit it on every website we build ? thanks in advance

  • Where is the plugins directory for Turnkey Trac?

    Hello, I setup a Turnkey Trac virtual machine and am trying to set up the LdapPlugin to use use authentication through a local Active Directory. I tried using easy_install http://trac-hacks.org/svn/ldapplugin/ to install it and it claimed to have completed, however when I go to the Admin page and go to plugins, it is not listed. I have never setup a Turnkey server like this before and was wondering in which directory the Trac plugins are located on the Turnkey-linux machine? Thanks, Tomek

While I know we would see possibly more power running ruby on rails under a Linux machine, the requirements depend on me using Windows.     Hi, i am trying to install the workstation components of sql server 2008 on my windows xp sp2 machine and during the setup, the only options i have to install are the database engine and sdk. all of the other options including books, workstation components are missing. Using the same installer disks i was able to install the whole works on a server. I do not have any version of sql currently installed on the xp machine.. am i doing something wrong?

As the virtual machine resources are limited I'd like to optimize it's performance by disabling services and features that are not necessary for my purposes.     Could anyone explain to me why is it that producers of processors claim that their processor can perform so many thousands (or millions) operations per second and yet typical program (Word, VS etc.) on my machine with 4GB, 3500hz starts with no less than 10sek. Have to mention that I've just formatted disk and tick any necessarry boxes to optimize my machine. So if for example outlook starts in 10 sek I wonder how many millions of operations have to be performed to run such program? Thanks

    I have several local machines; I use a OSX 10.6 machine to do most of the serving. Annoyingly, it postfixes its network name with .local. How would I set up a system so that I could access it by its hostname? server: httpd apache2 default install I am accessing it with a web browser(surprisingly). also when I ping my osx machine as name, it doesn't work; ping name.local does work.

    Generally speaking, I'm interested in something that can load quickly and, depending on what I want to do, can choose to launch a Virtual Machine that is tailored to my desired activity. So, something that loads to (preferably) a command line, then if I want to run my Windows 7 machine that has all of my programming junk on it, I can simply enter the command to launch some VM player and close it when I'm done.

  • No outbound connections for apache2

    I'm unable to hit my server from a browser on another machine (it gives a 'connection has timed out' error), although typing http://localhost or http://my-ip-here works from the browser within the machine. I can ping and ssh into the server from other machines; it just seems like apache is rejecting the port-80 browser connections. What can I do to further diagnose/fix this problem?     I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card?     I use a custom logon shell on a machine (windows 7) for security reasons - which works fine by altering HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell. However, I also want that the administrator will still be able to manage the machine, so I modified the user specific key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell back to explorer.exe - but when I log on I get a single windows explorer window, and not the full desktop. does any one know how to configure the normal desktop shell only to a specific user?

    I'm thinking of using ZFS for my home-made NAS array. I would have 4 HDDs in raidz on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 machine. I'd like to use the snapshot capability and dedup when storing data. I'm not so much concerned about the speed, since the machine is accessed via N wireless network and that is probably going to be the bottleneck. So does anyone have any practical experience with zfs-fuse 0.6.9 on such (or simillar) configuration?

  • issue with eclipse after checking out project from svn

    After checking out a project from SVN, I am getting the following prompt in eclipse any time I try to change anything in the code: The compilation unit is not in the build path of the project There is no Java build path option when I right click on the project. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or fix the issue will be greatly appreciated. Note: I tried changing the project file manually but now my project files are being displayed in separate directories inside the trunk.
