• WPF (irc) chat log control

  I'm trying to learn WPF and was thinking about creating a simple IRC client. The most complicated part is to create the chat log. I want it to look more or less like the one in mIRC: or irssi: The important parts are that the text should be selectable, lines should wrap and it should be able to handle quite large logs. The alternatives that I can come up with are: StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer where each line is a row ListView, since that seems more suitable for dynamic content/data binding. Create an own control that does the rendering on its own. Is there any WPF guru out there that has some ideas on which direction to take and where to start?

• Can MYSQL filter by date if date is stored as text? ex "02/10/1984"

  Hello! I am trying to modify an app for a client which has already a database of over 1000 items. The dates are stored as text in the database with the format "02/10/1984". The system allows you to add and remove fields to the catalog dynamically and it also allows the advanced search to have specific fields be allowed. The problem is that it wasn't designed with dates in mind, so when I set a field as a date, and try to search by a range the query is trying to do a AND (cfv0.value = 01/02/2004 AND cfv0.value <= 05/03/2008) . I can make it so the date range passed is a numeric time value. Is there a way that when sending the query, it takes the text fields (with the date) and converts it to numeric time value so at that point I am basically just comparing numbers which would work fine. I do not have the option to change all the current date to numeric value due to the way the dynamic fields are set up. Thanks guys!

• How to set document.domain for a dynamically generated IFRAME?

  I am implementing CodeMirror (http://marijn.haverbeke.nl/codemirror/) on a page where document.domain needs to be declared (because of other IFRAMES on the page). CodeMirror generates a dynamic IFRAME to provide syntax highlighted code editing. The problem is that IE throws up 'Access Denied' (other browsers are fine) at the following piece of code mirror code: this.win = frame.contentWindow; ... var doc = this.win.document; <-- ERROR doc.open(); doc.write(html.join("")); doc.close(); It turns out IE doesn't inherit document.domain from parent IE. I can set document.domain in the IFRAME contents but IE throws up the error before I can even set the contents. Any ideas how to tackle this problem?

• protecting COM interfaces from exceptions

  I have several dozen objects exposed through COM interfaces, each of which with many methods, totaling a few hundred methods. These interfaces expose business objects from my app to a scripting engine. I have been given the task of protecting every single one of these methods from exceptions being thrown (to catch them and return an error using COM's Error() function, which incidentally I can find no documentation on because it's impossible to google). To my understanding, this requires that I add a try/catch around the guts of each one of these methods. The catch blocks are going to be similar or identical for each and every one of these hundreds of methods, which strongly smells of a problem (massively violates the DRY principle), but I can't think of any way to avoid changing every method. As far as I can tell, these methods are invoked directly by COM, with no intervening code that I can hook into to catch the exceptions. My current best idea is to make a macro for the catch block, but that has it's own sort of code-smell. Can anyone come up with a better approach? BTW, my app's exceptions do not derive from std::exception, so if there is some way of COM automatically handling standard exceptions, it won't help. And I sadly cannot change the existing exceptions to derive from std::exception.

• Slow page unload in IE

  I am developing a site which creates many table rows dynamically. The total amount of rows right now is 187. Everything works fine when creating the rows, but in IE when I leave the page, there is a large amount of lag. I do not know if this is some how related to the heavy DOM manipulation I am doing in the page? I do not create any function closures when building the dynamic content's event handlers so I do not believe this problem is related to memory leaks. Any insight is much appreciated.

• How to get Jquery form plugin and Jquery validation to work together.

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to.   Hi, I'm in need for some pointers on positioning. I've got this square which should be centered on the page. And with a logo and a logo font image kinda wrapped around the square. Now, I want this as dynamic as possible, because I use both the square and images elsewhere as well. So I can't really use stiff static positioning. This is the site: www.matkalenderen.no How should I do this? I want to logo to appear on the left side of the square. And the font to appear above the square. And the square itself should be centered. You probably get the picture :) Right now I've got a wrapper around everything, which is also centered.

  Hi Guyz, i want to integrate maps using map kit in iphone, and i am successful at that, but now the problem which i am facing is i have 2 locations coordinates, Location1 and Location2, now i want those two points to be shown on map but i want that they appear on the screen both at 1 time, means if they are very far then the zoom level goes to that point and show those two points on the map, if they are near to each other then zoom level shows from that angel (i mean very near). now i know that using longitude delta and latitude delta i can fix this problem, but i cant find a way to make it dynamic, so that i dont have to hardcode the delta value Any Help appreciated.   I see there is a :user_ssl option in attachment_fu which checks the amazon_s3.yml file in order to serve files via https:// In the s3_backend.rb you have this method: def self.protocol @protocol ||= s3_config[:use_ssl] ? 'https://' : 'http://' end But this then makes it serve ALL s3 attachments with SSL. I'd like to make it dynamic depending if the current request was made with https:// i.e: if request.ssl? @protocol = "https://" else @protocol = "http://" end How can I make it work in this way? I've tried modifying the method and then get the NameError: undefined local variable or method `request' for Technoweenie::AttachmentFu::Backends::S3Backend:Module error

  I have a MySQL InnoDB table laid out like so: id (int), run_id (int), element_name (varchar), value (text), line_order, column_order `MyDB`.`MyTable` ( `id` bigint(20) NOT NULL, `run_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `element_name` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `value` text, `line_order` int(11) default NULL, `column_order` int(11) default NULL It is used to store data generated by a Java program that used to output this in CSV format, hence the line_order and column_order. Lets say I have 2 entries (according to the table description): 1,1,'ELEMENT 1','A',0,0 2,1,'ELEMENT 2','B',0,1 I want to pivot this data in a view for reporting so that it would look like more like the CSV would, where the output would look this: --------------------- |ELEMENT 1|ELEMENT 2| --------------------- | A | B | --------------------- The data coming in is extremely dynamic; it can be in any order, can be any of over 900 different elements, and the value could be anything. The Run ID ties them all together, and the line and column order basically let me know where the user wants that data to come back in order.

  I've got two questions (of which at least one is regarding RTTI in D2010 and dynamic instancing) I was reading what appears to be the foils for a conference talk by Barry Kelly, and found on p. 13 something that looked really interesting: TRTTIConstructor.Invoke. In an adjacent bullet point, on finds "Dynamically construct instances without needing virtual constructors and metaclasses". This seems like a great feature (and exactly what I need, btw)! However, when I look in the D2010 docs (ms-help://embarcadero.rs2010/vcl/Rtti.html), I can't find it. Did it get revoked? What is the minimal way of creating an instance of a class, provided the class name is stored in a string?

• jQuery tooltips on a dynamically generated page.

  Him I'm trying to add a jQuery tooltip to a dynamically generated list, the text I want to display the tooltip on is in a table, so my CSS tooltip doesn't work: CSS tooltip. I tried to add this jQuery tooltip to the page, it works on my local test page, but I think the problem has something to do with uniqur ids, and I'm not sure how to implement the bind all function explained there: "To bind all of the targets to their corresponding content, it takes only one line: $(".tooltip-target").ezpz_tooltip(); Calling ezpz_tooltip() on a class will bind the hover event to each element, and because of the naming convention it will know which content to display." Can someone help me to understand what exactly I have to do to make this work on a dynamic page? The page is Euroworker's checkout product page. (You'll have to add some items to the basket, click the home button on the left of the bnav bar and click the little white button "kjøp" then the orange button "handlevogn".) Thanks.

• Storing Tables of Information on the Android Platform.

  I have about twenty pages of information that is stored in tables that needs to be stored in my Android application. Each column is a designated stop on a bus route and the column is filled with times that the bus will be at the stop. There is also certain information that needs to be associated with some times, such as if the bus is handicap accessible at a certain time. Here is an example of one of the tables: Bus Times I have thought about using a SQL lite as that seems as though it would be able to store these tables quite easily; but when I think of using SQL I think of dynamic data storage and this shouldn't be changing more than once a year. Is SQL appropriate for this application? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks, Rob

• jQuery XML loading and then innerfade effect

  Hello, I think I can explain myself without code, so for brevity's sake here we go: I am using jquery to pull data from an xml and put it into a ul on the page with each xml entry as a li. This is working great! However, what I am trying to do afterwards is use the innerfade plugin to make a simple animation between each of the li's. It's not working though, as it is still just loading the static list with each item visible (whereas if innerfade was working it would only display the first....then fade into the second, etc) It's not an innerfade problem however, because if I add the list in manually to the page (not injecting it with jquery) then the innerfade works fine. I'm relatively new to DOM scripting, so I think I am missing something here. I'm not quite sure how jQuery sequences everything, and I'm having trouble phrasing my question in a search engine friendly manner so here I am. Is it possible to have jquery pull the data from xml, then inject it into the page, then have innerfade work it's magic? • where is the best place to place a javascript snippet to alter the DOM of a page before it renders

  I have a few dynamic pages and I want to alter certain elements before the page has fully rendered. My snippet is something like document.body.getElementById("change").innerHTML = "<img src..."; I do not have access to change the content server side. Where is the best place to put the snippet to have the code run before the page it has rendered? Rather, is putting the javascript in either the HEAD (inside the window.onload event?) or before the closing BODY(not inside an event listener) optimal?

I have to imagine that someone out there has written a framework I can use to simplify the creation of these kind of simple GUIs. • Invoke Haskell function with heterogeneous arguments?

  I'm currently working on a Haskell project which automatically tests some functions based on an XML specification. The XML specification gives the arguments to each function and the expected result that the function will provide (the arguments are of many different types). I know how to extract the function arguments from the XML and parse them using the read function, but I haven't figured out how to invoke the function using the arguments I get out. What I basically want is to read and store the arguments in a heterogeneous list (my current thinking is to use a list of type Data.Dynamic) and then invoke the function, passing this heterogeneous list as its argument list. Is this possible? Modifying the functions under test is not an option.

  Hello there, I have an object in csharp from the class Account each account have a owner, reference, etc. One way I can access an accounts properties is through accessors like account.Reference; but I would like to be able to access it using dynamic string selectors like: account["PropertyName"]; just like in javascript. so I would have account["Reference"] which would return the value...but I also would like to be able to sign a new value after that like: account["Reference"] = "124ds4EE2s"; I've noticed I can use DataBinder.Eval(account,"Reference") to get a property based on a string, but using this I can't sign a value to the property.   Is there a way to fully integrate Python with Java code on Android platform? Yes, I saw the question about running Python on Android and Android Scripting Environment (ASE). But that doesn't seem to be enough (correct me if I am wrong). I wanted to be able not only to invoke a Python script from within Java code, but have a full integration. The feature I need the most is the ability to have a state of execution of python code saved and be able to run several parts of code on demand against the same execution state. On JavaSE I would rely on Jython.
