  I am following the tut here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/h59db326.aspx # Create an App_Code directory directly under the root directory of your Web site (also called Web application root). # Copy the source file for the control (WelcomeLabel.cs or WelcomeLabel.vb) to the App_Code directory. But I got the error on using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControl; I have tried to add System.Web as Reference but that still doesn't resolve the stuff. I can't see System.Web.UI and System.Web.UI.WebControl in the reference lists is this normal ? Thanks.

  Im learning Mockito and in chapter 16 they say you should not use partial mocking in new system. I disagree, for example in one of my actions i use partial mocking for static framework methods, sql calls, etc. I extracted the stuff into methods and then mock it in tests. Most of those methods are specific to this action and wont be call from other actions, so it not worth to extract special components. I agree that you shouldn't using partial mocking in frameworks, but not in hard to mock actions. What are minuses of using partial mocking in web-app?

  After converting a Hybrid ASP.NET MVC1 app to MVC2 I'm getting the following error when I try and run the application: The type or namespace name 'Mvc' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?) The allegeded culprit in the web.config file is System.Web.Mvc: <namespaces> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc"/> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax"/> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html"/> So far my investigation seems to lead me to believe that version 2 of System.Web.Mvc is not installed or has not been picked up. I've tried creating a File New Project based on MVC 2 and that's picking up the new (v2) version of MVC. I've also converted some other projects (that were not hybrids) and they've converted without problem to MVC2. I've also uninstalled MVC1 to try and remove references to it from the GAC. However, none of this has worked. Any ideas?

• How do you include additional files using VS2010 web deployment packages?

  I am testing out using the new web packaging functionality in visual studio 2010 and came across a situation where I use a pre-build event to copy required .dll's into my bin folder that my app relies on for API calls. They cannot be included as a reference since they are not COM dlls that can be used with interop. When I build my deployment package those files are excluded when I choose the option to only include the files required to run the app. Is there a way to configure the deployment settings to include these files? I have had no luck finding any good documentation on this.

• Web Site in solution where "Rebuild Solution" compile succeeds cannot launch debugger

  I have a solution that includes a Web Site (created using the web site template not the web app project template - converting isn't an option, btw). When I rebuild all, the compile succeeds, but strangely displays 3 errors, all of which are "Could not get dependencies for project reference 'PROJNAME'". When I try to launch the debugger, I get the "There were build errors." dialogue. Two questions: If I choose the 'Yes' option in the debug error dialogue to run the last successful build, will it run on the code that my Rebuild All just compiled? How do I resolve this issue? I checked this post and am disheartened by my prospects. What is strange, though, is that I added these same projects to a separate web site solution that compiled/debugged fine, removed the test web site and re-added the target website I would like to debug, and it failed in the same manner.   Hi, I have to integrate a graph with nodes and edges on a web page. Ideally, i would like to be able to interact with it (like moving the nodes around). Actually, i'm beginning by representing trees, so i would appreciate to be able to collapse subtrees. How can I do that ? I was considering google-visualization api but i wasn't able to find the kind of visualization i'm looking for (org chart doesn't allow to have multiple fathers, if i understood well) I've got no idea of the kind of technology so my tagging may not be really accurate :-). thanks

• Any serious problems when making an old java web app run on new IE 8 browser?

  I need make an quick estimation on project (not sure we got): It's an old banking CMS java web app: Server: jdk5, weblogic 9. Client: winXP, Ie6. It was design only for use with ie6 but now we need make it also run well on new client: ie8,ie7 on win7. I understand the most difference is the client: DOM and CSS. But my problem is we hasn't been worked with ie8, and I have not enough time to build an testing environment because our developing environment is not ready to make test (its remoting completely, and managed by another partner) Any experience or suggestion to help me weighing this task need will be welcomed.

  Your thoughts on this? I'm hearing more and more people saying things like: "Is it html 5 compatible" "Can I make my website html 5" "Other html 5 question here..." What do you guys think? Is html5 the new buzzword? Obviously, it's more than a fad. It is the way things are going. But it seems like it's catching on in the mainstream. I don't think it will get as big as Web 2.0, mind you. Thought I'd ask a light question this Tuesday

• How to find missing web part ?

  Does anybody know how to find offending web part which causes this error ? “A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Web Part Page cannot be displayed or imported because it is not registered on this site as safe.” I have inherited an old SharePoint 2003 portal site which uses custom web parts. I know what this error means. I also know that each web part must be installed and registred as safe in web.config. The problem is that I don't know which one is missing. I get same error when I'm trying to open the page in FrontPage as well.

• SharePoint web part not displaying for site readers

  Hello - I've built a custom SharePoint 2010 web part and deployed it to the home page of a publishing site. It's a very simple web part that just displays items from a SP list in a drop down list. The web part works fine if I'm logged in as a site owner or a member but not if I'm just a reader. The web part doesn't render at all to readers. I don't get any of the web part chrome or title, just nothing. I have other web parts (out-of-box ones) in the same zone that are displaying fine so it's not an issue of the whole zone not displaying. As a reader, I can still view the list directly so it doesn't appear to be a problem with list permissions. My web parts are being deployed as a farm solution, not sand-boxed and the assembly is being deployed to the GAC. I feel like I must be missing something simple here but I'm stumped. Help.

  Found the following here. The questions is: where can I find more details on how exactly implement this on Windows? Any guide or how-to anybody? Or maybe you can provide your invaluable suggestions? Specifically, how do I make so that "all QA servers would first resolve entries in qa.example.com first and then if that lookup failed they would try example.com" (I'm a dev, not a DNS specialist, but our IT Support has refused to help on this:() Use DNS Based Environment Determination for your servers. Do this by initially splitting your top level domain into a number of sub domains depending on their function, and then creating DNS Service Names in each of the sub domains pointing to the relevant server for that service. Based on the list above we would then have: * clientdb.prod.example.com for Production * clientdb.perf.example.com for Performance Testing * clientdb.qa.example.com for QA * clientdb.dev.example.com for Development Servers then resolve entries in their relevant sub domain by function. That is, all QA servers would first resolve entries in qa.example.com first and then if that lookup failed they would try example.com. This allows you to have a single configuration entry for your client database hostname (clientdb) that would resolve correctly in all environments. This technique has the added advantage of still having global services defined in a common top level domain. Reading that, I see that I will probably need separate DNS Server for each environment. • Libraries for developing NCPDP SCRIPT based systems (a standard for e-prescribing)

  What are (based on experiences) best (commercial or open source) libraries for developing NCPDP-based systems? Background: NCPDP (National Council for Prescription Drug Programs) is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited, standards development organization. One of it's standards is the SCRIPT Standard for Electronic Prescribing, which allows PHARMACY, PRESCRIBER (i.e. Physician) and PAYERS (patient or more often insurer) communicate. So the SCRIPT standard is about data transmission. Problem: One step in implementing such systems is to develop models for data based on SCRIPT standard. These models should have utilities for serializing/deserializing to/from SCRIPT binary format and SCRIPT XML format (there are two distinct formats here; both must be supported). Here rises the problem (for me at least). To develop this subsystem for handling the model, implementing serializing and deserializing facilities and keep it uptodate with the SCRIPT standard specifications is a lot of work; it needs it's own team and team management issues (to support a standard implementation). So I am looking for a solution to this problem; to keep standard implementation out of the way and focusing on main problems. Thanks to all (Thankyou Freiheit for your hints!) Edit 2: Thanks to all for help! NCPDP (National Council for Prescription Drug Programs) is an standard for e-prescribing. It defines two formats for message transmission: binary and XML. Implementing XML is somehow easier because it is a standard format which in turn gives us more tooling options. The binary format has a very big specification and time-consuming to implement. • Options for non-native form inputs for the web?

  I'm wondering if there are any good non-native form inputs for web development? I am currently using the built in <input> controls. They work just fine, but for my application they are too big (especially on OS X). I am wondering if there are any libraries that I can drop in as replacements. I am especially interested in ones that: Are a close to native control behavior as possible. Support for tabbing, highlighting current textbox, pressing up/down in <select>, etc. Have something that replicates <select> Look good and are compact I am aware that you can use CSS for some styling, but it's pretty minimal and looks different depending on the browser.   I'm trying to convince my co-workers to switch from a web site project to a web application project, because I want the use of the project file. However I can't diffuse this argument against: The web site project allows each page to be compiled into a single dll. Their argument is this enables easy fixing of errors found after publishing. This is contrast to how the web application project compiles all code behind into a single dll. Is updating a single page's dll essentially different to updating the entire site's dll? Is there some way to compile each page's code behind into a seperate dll in the web application project? Are there some prohibitive (performance,memory?) costs to compiling each page's code behind into seperate dll's that we are unaware of? Why is the feature(?) to compile each page to separate dlls in web site projects and not web app projects?

• Pinning based on origin of a reprepro repository.

  I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, and trying to set up a repository using reprepro. I'd also like the pin everything in that repository to be preferred over anything else, even if packages are older versions. (It will only contain a select set of packages.) However, I cannot seem to get the pinning to work, and believe it has something to do with the repository side of things, rather than the apt configuration on the client. I've taken the following steps to set up my repository Installed a web server (my personal choice here is Cherokee), Created the directory /var/www/apt/, Created the file conf/distributions, like so: Origin: Shteef Label: Shteef Suite: lucid Version: 10.04 Codename: lucid Architectures: i386 amd64 source Components: main Description: My personal repository Ran reprepro export from the /var/www/apt/ directory. At this point I can see the new package in aptitude, but it naturally prefers the newer Asterisk 1.6 currently in the Ubuntu 10.04 repositories. To try and fix that, I have created /etc/apt/preferences.d/personal like so: Package: * Pin: release o=Shteef Pin-Priority: 1000 But when I try to install the asterisk package, it will still prefer the 1.6 version over my own 1.4 version. But I can't find any noticable difference between my repository's Release files and Ubuntu's that would cause this. Is there a step I've missed or mistake I've made in setting up my repository?

  Hi all, I read some paragraphs in a book saying that it is not possible to do a partial postback for web, even AJAX is employed. Ajax will postback everything and update only ajaxfied controls. However, on pages I made using ajax, I used Fiddler to monitor the transportation. I found when the page initial load, it loaded everything include pictures .... However, when I click a button and do a ajax postback. I can only see the some data were loaded.... Looks like it doesn't need to reload the whole page again. I don't know if what I see is correct? Or the book I read is correct? Thank you guys.

  Hello, I'm learning JQuery and am about to write some pages using intensively that library. I just learned that some user disable javascript on their browser (I didn't even know that was possible and/or necessary). Now, here's my question: What happens to my web application if a user disable Javascript? For instance, I'd like to display some screens using Ajax and commands such as 'InsertBefore' to bring in live a DIV that will display the result. So, if Javascript is disabled, I wonder what going to happen to all this work that relies on Javascript? I'm kind of lost. Thanks for helping

By "production ready" I mean : supports objective-relational mapping with caching and declarative desciption (like JPA, Hibernate etc..) controls oriented user interface support - no HTML templates but something like JSF (RichFaces, Icefaces) or GWT, Vaadin, ZK component decomposition and dependency injection (like EJB or Spring) unit and integration testing good IDE support clustering, modularity etc (like Terracota, OSGi etc..) there are successful applications written in it by companies like IBM, Oracle etc (I mean real business applications not Twitter) could have commercial support Is it possible at all in Python world ? Or only choices are : use Python and write everything from the bottom (too expensice) stick to JEE buy .NET stack

• How to enable ajax when deriving from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl on controls that are crea

  I've built a class that derives from System.Web.UI.WebControl. It basically renders pagination links (same as what you see on top of GridView when enabled) for use above a repeater. I'm creating some anchor tags explicitly inside my nav control obviously, but they don't perform ajax postbacks. My understanding is that ajax requires POSTS to work right? Well, these would be GETs which I think is the problem. Is there a way to achieve what I'm trying to do? Thanks!
