  • Cannot add App_Data SQL Server database

    Hello, Using Visual Studio 2010 10.0.20319.1 RTMRel and SQL Server Express 10.50.1600.1 I'm trying to add a new SQL Server Database .mdf, however, I receive the following error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 – Connection string is not valid) I have enabled TCP/IP and Named Pipelines, added Firewall Exceptions for Sql Server, I am successfully connecting from VS in the Server Explorer window. I would appreciate if someone can pint me to a solution to my problem. Thank you.

  • Admin panel - what is the best way to display "static" data in the layout?

    I'm about to write a admin panel for my CMS written in CodeIgniter. There will be some user information visible at all time - both in the layout's header section and the sidebar. I'm used to do it in a way that I personally hope and think could be done a lot easier, since I'm tired of sending the same parametres to the view over and over again, when it's dynamic data that needs to be displayed on every page anyways (such as unread messages, username, name, status, etc). I'll need controllers and models, I know that, but do I have to pass, just for an example, the user's username, unread messages etc. every time I need to load a view? Should I do some kind of library for this? Now my question is: How would I do it when it comes to best practice and for making it easy to maintain in the future? I hope my question is understandable :)

So my question is: what tools can i use to detect the character set of those text? And how do i convert/encode/decode them properly in C#?     Hi all, I'm not very familiar with the many-to-many insertion process using Entity Framework 4, POCO. I have a blog with 3 tables: Post, Comment, and Tag. A Post can have many Tags and a Tag can be in many Posts. Here are the Post and Tag models: public class Tag { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Tag name can't exceed 25 characters.")] public string Name { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Post> Posts { get; set; } } public class Post { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(512, ErrorMessage = "Title can't exceed 512 characters")] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] [AllowHtml] public string Content { get; set; } public string FriendlyUrl { get; set; } public DateTime PostedDate { get; set; } public bool IsActive { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Comment> Comments { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Tag> Tags { get; set; } } Now when I'm adding a new post, I'm not sure what would be the right way to do. I'm thinking that I'll have a textbox where I can select multiple tags for that post (this part is already done), in my controller, I will check to see if the tag is already exists or not, if not, then I will insert the new tag. But I'm not even sure based on the models that I've created for EF, will they create a PostsTags table, or they are creating just a Tags and a Posts table and links between the two? How would I insert the new Post and set the tags to that post? Is it just newPost.Tags = Tags (where Tags are the one that got selected, do I even need to check to see if they already exists?), and then something like _post.Add(newPost);? Thanks.

When they submit, I have a jQuery callback to serialize all ids. I want to stick those ids into an http request parameter called, "ids" so that I can grab them easily. I figured I could do the following var ids = $("#downloadall").serializeArray(); Then I would need to take each of the ids and add them to a request param called ids. But is there a "standard" way to do this? Like using jQuery?

Would I gain anything by splitting this into multiple tests? I'm all about doing things right, but I'm not going to split things up if it doesn't have practical value. I'm pretty new to unit testing, so be gentle.

  • MVC4 not binding a list of basic types

    I cannot, for the life of me, get this data to bind. Here's my JavaScript: var params = { 'InvItemIDs': ["188475", "188490"]}; $.post("api/Orders/OrderFromInventory?" + $.param(params)) and the Controller action: public HttpResponseMessage OrderFromInventory(IList<int> InvItemIDs) { return new HttpResponseMessage(); } I've built the query string so that it's sending: ?InvItemIDs=188475&InvItemIDs=188490 as well as ?InvItemIDs[]=188475&InvItemIDs[]=188490 and even ?InvItemIDs[0]=188475&InvItemIDs[1]=188490 and none of them are binding. InvItemIDs is always null. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: So it turns out all this is a bug (or something) in the new Web API controller code in MVC4. As soon as I moved the exact same code over to a standard controller it started working. I'm still interested if anyone has any insight as to why the Web API would break this binding.

The same store must be able to support multiple languages via the user's language selection and/or browser preference. I have two tables: Item (id, sku, price, ...) ItemDetails (item_id, language, title, ...) For each Item, there will be multiple rows corresponding to the item, where the (item_id,language) pair will be unique.   • Client side validation script dissapears with $.ajax()

    In my javascript file I'm getting the content of a partial with the following call: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: value.href.replace(actionType, actionType + 'Partial'), dataType: "html", success: function(result) { $("#DepartmentsAction").html(result); alert(result); } }); Because the partial has the call Html.EnableClientValidation() the resulting html has a static script in it. In the result variable in the ajax call this script is present. In the page where the html gets inserted (#DepartmentsAction) the script has dissapeared. What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I delete an object from an Entity Framework model without first loading it?

    I am quite sure I've seen the answer to this question somewhere, but as I couldn't find it with a couple of searches on SO or google, I ask it again anyway... In Entity Framework, the only way to delete a data object seems to be MyEntityModel ent = new MyEntityModel(); ent.DeleteObject(theObjectToDelete); ent.SaveChanges(); However, this approach requires the object to be loaded to, in this case, the Controller first, just to delete it. Is there a way to delete a business object referencing only for instance its ID? If there is a smarter way using Linq or Lambda expressions, that is fine too. The main objective, though, is to avoid loading data just to delete it.
