(Note it is a GET): public ActionResult MyView(MyDTO dto) { return View(dto) } The problem is that the instance of MyObject is coming back as null, where val1 and val2 have data. Has anyone run across this?

• B-trees, databases, sequential inputs, and speed.

  I know from experience that b-trees have awful performance when data is added to them sequentially (regardless of the direction). However, when data is added randomly, best performance is obtained. This is easy to demonstrate with the likes of an RB-Tree. Sequential writes cause a maximum number of tree balances to be performed. I know very few databases use binary trees, but rather used n-order balanced trees. I logically assume they suffer a similar fate to binary trees when it comes to sequential inputs. This sparked my curiosity. If this is so, then one could deduce that writing sequential IDs (such as in IDENTITY(1,1)) would cause multiple re-balances of the tree to occur. I have seen many posts argue against GUIDs as "these will cause random writes". I never use GUIDs, but it struck me that this "bad" point was in fact a good point. So I decided to test it. The results on my machine were as follows: Int: 17,340 ms GUID: 6,746 ms This means that in this test, random inserts of 16 bytes was almost 3 times faster than sequential inserts of 4 bytes. Would anyone like to comment on this? Ps. I get that this isn't a question. It's an invite to discussion, and that is relevant to learning optimum programming.

  I have an MSVC Makefile Project in which I need to set an environment variable before running NMAKE. For x64 builds I needs to set it to one value, and for x86 builds I need to set it to something else. So for example, when doing a build I would want to SET PLATFORM=win64 if I'm building a 64-bit compile, or SET PLATFORM=win32 if I'm building 32-bit. There does not appear to be an option to set environment variables or add a pre-build even for makefile projects. How do I do this? EDIT: Running MSVC 2008

• SQL Stored Procedure

  I am trying to run a stored procedure with a while loop in it using Aqua Data Studio 6.5 and as soon as the SP starts Aqua Data starts consuming an increasing amount of my CPU's memory which makes absolutely no sense to me because everything should be off on the Sybase server I am working with. I have commented out and tested every piece of the SP and narrowed the issue down to the while loop.   Hi, I am a mobile web developer and trying to monetize my traffic with mobile ad services and i have a problem. First of all to get most of out of your ads you usually need to do server side request to advert company's servers and there are quite few ad services. Problem starts when you want to use them in one site. All have different approaches to server side calls and trying to maintain and implement those ad codes becomes pain after a while. So I decided to write a class system where i can simply create methods for every company and upload it to my site. So far i have public Advert class public AdPublisher class with GetAd method that returns an Advert public Adservice class that has Service names as enum I also have converted server request codes of all ad services i use to classes. It works ok but I want to be able to create an ad service class upload it so that asp.net app can import/recognize it automatically like a plugin system. As I am new to .net I have no idea where to start or how to do it. However, set utilities such as set-intersection, set-union and a function which eliminates duplicates in a list and built-in functions union, intersection, and remove-duplicates are allowed.   I'm trying to forge an IGMPv2 Membership Request packet and send it on a RAW socket. The RFC 3376 states: IGMP messages are encapsulated in IPv4 datagrams, with an IP protocol number of 2. Every IGMP message described in this document is sent with an IP Time-to-Live of 1, IP Precedence of Internetwork Control (e.g., Type of Service 0xc0), and carries an IP Router Alert option [RFC-2113] in its IP header So the IP_ROUTER_ALERT flag must be set. • Suggestions In Porting ASP.NET to MVC.NET - Is storing SiteConfiguration in Cache RESTful?

  I've been tasked with porting/refactoring a Web Application Platform that we have from ASP.NET to MVC.NET. Ideally I could use all the existing platform's configurations to determine the properties of the site that is presented. Is it RESTful to keep a SiteConfiguration object which contains all of our various page configuration data in the System.Web.Caching.Cache? There are a lot of settings that need to be loaded when the user acceses our site so it's inefficient for each user to have to load the same settings every time they access. (and in turn, style, configurations for various pages, etc.) PageTemplate is the View that will be rendered and simply defines a layout for where I'm going to inject the UserControls Can somebody please tell me if I'm completely missing the RESTful point here? I'd like to refactor the platform into MVC because it's better to work in but I want to do it right but with a minimum of reinventing-the-wheel because otherwise it won't get approval.   Something strange is going on with NHibernate for me. I can select, and I can insert. But I can't do and update against MySql. What's the easiest way to go about this in C# using .Net 3.5?

  I have the following classes, set for testing: public class Company { [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)] public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Employee { [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)] public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public int CompanyId { get; set; } public virtual Company Company { get; set; } } public class EFTestDbContext : DbContext { public DbSet<Employee> Employees { get; set; } public DbSet<Company> Companies { get; set; } } For the sake of testing, I wanted to insert one company and one employee for that company with single SaveChanges call, like this: Company company = new Company { Name = "Sample company" }; context.Companies.Add(company); // ** UNCOMMENTED FOR TEST 2 //Company company2 = new Company //{ // Name = "Some other company" //}; //context.Companies.Add(company2); Employee employee = new Employee { Name = "Hans", CompanyId = company.Id }; context.Employees.Add(employee); context.SaveChanges(); Even though I am not using navigational properties, but instead I've made relation over Id, this somehow mysteriously worked - employee was saved with proper foreign key to company which got updated from 0 to real value, which made me go ?!?! Some hidden C# feature? Then I've decided to add more code, which is commented in the snippet above, making it to be inserting of 2 x Company entity and 1 x Employee entity, and then I got exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the 'CodeLab.EFTest.Employee_Company' relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. Does this mean that in cases where foreign key is 0, and there is a single matching entity being inserted in same SaveChanges transaction, Entity Framework will assume that foreign key should be for that matching entity? In second test, when there are two entities matching the relation type, Entity Framework throws an exception as it is not able to figure out to which of the Companies Employee should be related to.

• Configuring Cisco 877W router from scratch for DHCP, WiFi, ADSL2+, NAT

  Hi all, I apologise if this is a BIG question but I am quite lost with the Cisco IOS. I know what I want to achieve just not how to do it :( I have a Cisco 877W router with 4 FastEthernet interfaces, 1 ATM interface and 1 802.11 Radio. I want to set it up for a small network and am trying to construct a configuration below. I was using Google to try and flesh it out but I think I need help and guidance from actual experts!
