  • Sharing class member data between sub components

    I have an aggregate 'main' class which contains some data which I wish to share. The main class also has other class members. I want to share the data with these other class members. What is the correct / neatest way to do this? The specific example I have is as follows. The main class is a .net Form. I have some controls (actually controls within controls) on the main form which need access to the shared data. Main Form - DataX - DataY - Control1 -- Subcontrol1 - Control2 -- SubControl2 SubControls 1 and 2 both wish to access DataX and DataY. The trouble is, I feel like better practice (to reduce coupling), would be that either subcontrols should not know about Main Form, or Main Form should not know about subcontrols - probably the former. For subcontrols not to know about Main Form, would probably mean Main Form passing references to both Controls 1 and 2, which in turn would pass the references on to SubControls 1 and 2. Lots of lines of code which just forward the references. If I later added DataZ and DataW, and Controls 3 and 4 and SubControls 3 and 4, I'd have to add lots more reference forwarding code. It seems simpler to me to give SubControls 1 and 2 member references to Main Form. That way, any sub control could just ask for MainForm.DataX or MainForm.DataY and if I ever added new data, I could just access it directly from the sub controls with no hassle. But it still involves setting the 'MainForm' member references every time I add a new Control or Subcontrol. And it gives me a gut feeling of 'wrong'. As you might be able to tell I'm not happy with either of my solutions. Is there a better way? Thanks

    What I'm trying to do is count the votes when someone votes on a "page". I think I lost myself trying to figure out how to track when a member votes or not.   • Access to and availability of private member functions in C++

    I am wandering the desert of my brain. In my header file, I have declared 'string LookUpOutcome(int key);' in the private section of the class. I have tried all sorts of variations. I tried to use 'this' for a little while, and it gave me 'Can only use this in non-static member function.' Sadly, I haven't declared anything static and these are all, putatively, member functions. I tried it [on TakeAnAction and LookUp] when I got the error, but I got something like, 'Can't access MyPrivateMap from LookUp'. MyPrivateMap could be made public and I could refer to it directly, I guess, but my sensibility says that is not the right way to go about this [that means that namespace scoped helper functions are out, I think]. I also guess I could just inline the lookup and subsequent other stuff, but my line-o-meter goes on tilt. I'm trying desperately not to kludge it.

    I'm pretty sure it's possible to call a class and its member function dynamically in Delphi, but I can't quite seem to make it work. Clarification/Additional Information: What I'm trying to accomplish is to create a Change Notification system between business classes. Class A registers to be notified of changes in Class B, and the system stores a mapping of Class A - Class B. Then, when a Class B object changes, the system will call a A.Foo() to process the change. I'd like the notification system to not require any hard-coded classes if possible. There will always be a Foo() for any class that registers for notification. Maybe this can't be done or there's a completely different and better approach to my problem. By the way, this is not exactly an "Observer" design pattern because it's not dealing with objects in memory. Managing changes between related persistent data seems like a standard problem to be solved, but I've not found very much discussion about it. Again, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.     I'd like to set the timeout on a specific Session Variable in a .Net web application, but leave other Session variables alone. Is this possible? Example: I have 5 Session Variables Session(var1) Session(var2) Session(var3) Session(var4) Session(var5) I want to set it so that Session(var1) through Session(var4) have a timeout of 8 hours (480 minutes), but Session(var5) has a timeout of 20 minutes. Can it be done?

  • Inspecting variables in Xdebug problems

    I've been using xdebug to do php debugging (netbeans or eclipse). I am usually able to inspect variables OK. However, sometimes when I expand a disclosure triangle for a variable -- typically when the client is making an AJAX call -- it will result in an empty response being returned and causing the AJAX call to fail. Has anyone run into this? Is there a way to make PHP debugging with xdebug more robust? (Not being able to inspect variables defeats the purpose of a debugger. Thanks

I recall once reading that in C, variables must be declared at the top of a function i.e. the following is invalid: void foo() { int good; if (...) { int bad; } } In the above code, is the declaraing of the bad varaible legal by C standards, or only legal due to a gcc extension?     I'm no stranger to __get(), and have used it to make some very convenient libraries in the past. This code would call the view and display it: <?php require_once("View.php"); use test\View; $view = new View("views/myview.php", array("user" => "Tom")); $view->display(); ?> My goal for this code is to allow the view "myview.php" to contain code like this: <p> Hello <?php echo $user; ?>! Your E-mail is <?php echo $email; ?> </p> And, used with the above code, this would output "Hello Tom! Your E-mail is ?? email ??" However, this won't work. The view is being included within a class method, so when it refers to $user and $email, it's looking for local function variables -- not variables belonging to the View class. For this reason, __get never gets triggered. I could change all my view's variables to things like $this-user and $this-email, but that would be a messy and unintuitive solution. I'd love to find a way where I can reference variables directly WITHOUT having PHP throw an error when an undefined variable is used. Thoughts? Is there a clean way to do this, or am I forced to resort to hacky solutions?

  • Using GET Method to Maintain Variables After Logging In

    Hello, I am using a login system. When I navigate to comments/index.php without logging in, some variables get passed along using the GET method just fine. Then, if I log in while I am on this page, these variables disappear. The variables that disappear are $submission, $submissionid, and $url. I thought I could use the GET method to keep them live after logging in by appending ?submission='.$submission.'&submissionid='.$submissionid.'&url='.$url.' to the URL of the login form action as seen below. But the variables still disappeared after I made this addition. The relevant code I am trying to use is below. Any idea what I can do to make it do what I want?     Hello, I have an ANTLR grammar that can parse and evaluate simple expressions like 1+2*4, etc. What I would like to do is to evaluate expressions like 2+$a-$b/4 where the $ variables are dynamic variables, that come from an external source and are continuously updated. Is there any design pattern on how to do this using ANTLR, best practices, etc? Shall I "substring" the $a with the updated value ($a - 4.34) A nicer way to do this? Thx

  • More elegant way to make a C++ member function change different member variables based on template p

    Today, I wrote some code that needed to add elements to different container variables depending on the type of a template parameter. I solved it by writing a friend helper class specialized on its own template parameter which had a member variable of the original class. It saved me a few hundred lines of repeating myself without adding much complexity. However, it seemed kludgey. I would like to know if there is a better, more elegant way. The code below is a greatly simplified example illustrating the problem and my solution. F and G are open to limited modification if that would produce a more elegant solution. (As an example of one such modification, in the real application F's constructor takes a dummy parameter to make it look like G's constructor and save me from repeating myself.) In the real code, Worker is a friend of User and member variables are private. To make the example simpler to write, I made everything public. However, a solution that requires things to be public really doesn't answer my question. Given all these caveats, is there a better way to write User::doIt?

    Hello, I am doing web based projects in dotnet. Currently I am implementing security using session variables. I keep current user id and user type in session and authenticate user from these session variables (say Session["UserId"],Session["UserName"] and Session["UserType"]) I do authentications. Please guide me how it is insecure ? I heard such security can be broken and applications can be hacked very easily, like it is possible to get session id and directly connect to that session id etc. Please guide me on this thanks
