  • std::string insert method has ambiguous overloads?

    Environment: VS2005 C++ using STLPort 5.1.4. Compiling the following code snippet: std::string copied = "asdf"; char ch = 's'; copied.insert(0,1,ch); I receive an error: Error 1 error C2668: 'stlpx_std::basic_string<_CharT,_Traits,_Alloc>::insert' : ambiguous call to overloaded function It appears that the problem is the insert method call on the string object. The two defined overloads are void insert ( iterator p, size_t n, char c ); string& insert ( size_t pos1, size_t n, char c ); But given that STLPort uses a simple char* as its iterator, the literal zero in the insert method in my code is ambiguous. So while I can easily overcome the problem by hinting such as copied.insert(size_t(0),1,ch); My question is: is this overloading and possible ambiguity intentional in the specification? Or more likely an unintended side-effect of the specific STLPort implementation? (Note that the Microsoft-supplied STL does not have this problem as it has a class for the iterator, instead of a naked pointer)

    I need to update two tables inside a single transaction. The individual queries look something like this: 1. INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; If the above query causes an insert then I need to run the following statement on the second table: 2. INSERT INTO t2 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = col2 + val2; otherwise, 3. UPDATE t2 SET col2 = col2 - old_val2 + val2 WHERE col1 = val1; -- old_val2 is the value of t1.col2 before it was updated Right now I run a SELECT on t1 first, to determine whether statement 1 will cause an insert or update on t1. Then I run statement 1 and either of 2 and 3 inside a transaction. What are the ways in which I can do all of these inside one transaction itself? The approach I was thinking of is the following: UPDATE t2, t1 set t2.col2 = t2.col2 - t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; INSERT INTO t2, t1 (t2.col1, t2.col2) VALUES (t1.col1, t1.col2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE t2.col2 = t2.col2 + t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; Unfortunately, there's no multi-table INSERT... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE in MySQL 5.0. What else could I do?

So, if there are no children, then the parent row is not returned in the result set. Eg. (phone_numbers) is another table which contains the restaurants phone_numbers, and it has a field called (branch_id) which references the restaurant id. When I try: SELECT * FROM rest_branches NATURAL JOIN phone_numbers I only get the restaurants which have a phone_number. What should I do to get all restaurants even if they don't have a phone number?

I am trying to select a select element in jquery. Right now I don't care about it's options, I just want the select element. If I have the following element: <select id="testSelect"><option>1</option></select> and I use jquery to select it: var selectElement = $("#testSelect"); I get an array of all the options in the select list, but not the select element itself. What am I missing?

    I basically have 7 select statement that I need to have the results output into separate columns. Normally I would use a crosstab for this but I need a fast efficient way to go about this as there are over 7 billion rows in the table. I am using the vertica database system.   • Javascript Function for related select elements onSubmit

    I am trying to create (4) Select elements within a form element. Each select element has a different number of options. So if a user click one option on Select #1 and then click another option on Select #2, after hitting submit they will be taken to www.blah.com/option1/option2 page which will display the filtered results. Or they can chose an option from all 4 select menus and be taken to option1/option2/option3/option4 page. The categories are all related .Select #1 is a category, Select #2 is a subcategory of 1, Select #3 is a subcategory of #2 and Select #4 is a subcategory of #3. A great example would be on (LINK) http://www.safavieh.com/rugs (LINK) except only four Select elements. I would also like to add the "Reset" button next to "Submit." I know I need to construct a function in my header and use onSubmit attribute within the form but other than that I am unsure of what's involved so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.     I need to select a top row for each category from a known set (somewhat similar to this question). The problem is, how to make this query efficient on the large number of rows. For example, let's create a table that stores temperature recording in several places. This way is efficient, but doesn't scale well (and looks dirty). For the former query three times one row is fetched. Is there a way to perform the query efficiently without lots of unions?

    I'm running into a problem in which an attempt to do a "Mode Select" SCSI command using SPTI is returning an error status of 0x02 ("Check Condition"), and hope someone here might have some tips or suggestions. The code in question is intended to work with at a custom SCSI device. I wrote the original support for it using ASPI under WinXP, and am converting it to work with SPTI under 64-bit Windows 7. Here's the problematic code - and what's happening is, sptwb.spt.ScsiStatus is 2, which is a "Check Condition" error. This routine opens \\.\SCSI<whatever> at the beginning, via prvOpenScsiAdapter(), and closes the handle at the end. All the other routines for dealing with the device do the same thing, including the routine to do "Reserve Unit". Is this a good idea under SPTI, or should the call to "Reserve Unit" leave the handle open, so this routine and others in the sequence can use the same handle? This uses the IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH. Should "Mode Select" use IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT instead? Thanks in advance - any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is there an alternative widget that you would recommend from your experience that meets the following requirements? Respects the contentEditable property (does not allow selection changes if true) Respects the disabled property of individual OPTIONs (shows them "grayed out" or with strike-through font, and makes them un-selectable) Supports Option Groups (OPTGROUP elements) Supports style options such as border and margin in the SELECT and all sub-elements Supports dynamic add and delete of OPTION and OPTGROUP elements Supports the above in IE version 6 and above EDIT: As noted by @Joel Coehoorn, items 3 and 5 above are currently supported in IE. They are included here to make sure they are not overlooked in a replacement widget.
