Scalable images in Java

I anticipate using some images in my Java application. These images will be drawn onto my JPanel using g.drawImage(). The JPanel is resizable and the images should scale as the JPanel increases/decreases in size Two questions: What image format is best for this type of desired scalable image? For instance, in this application, an image of size 100x100 may be scaled into an image of size 30x30 or 10x10 or 300x300. How can I write code to do this scaling?

load page with inactive scrollbar

I have a page that scrolls through images, some taller than the others. When a tall image loads it auto-creates a scrollbar in the browser window, causing a width jerk. Is there a way to load a scroll bar regardless of if it is needed, and when a tall image apears it activates itself accordingly, then deactivates its self accordingly when the image changes to a shorter image? Thank you!

I have button_focused, button_pressed, and button_normal images. When I press the button, the button_pressed image is displayed and the action related to the button pressing begins. When I quit pressing the button, the action continues but the button returns to button_normal image being displayed. How can I set the button image being displayed to button_pressed during the entire action then reset to the button_normal image? Thank you for your time

Juju Openstack bundle: Can't launch an instance

Deployed bundle:~makyo/openstack/2/openstack, on top of 7 physical boxes and 3 virtual ones. After changing vip_iface strings to point to right devices, e.g., br0 instead of eth0, and defining "/mnt/loopback|30G", in Cinder's block-device string, am able to navigate through openstack dashboard, error free. Problem upgrading kernel on debian 3.1

Hi, I have a quite old box in a remote server farm. So I have no direct access. Only remote SSH (and via SSH to a serial console). I haven't updated this box in ages. Now, whenever I want to install a new package, a dependency to glibc appears. Unfortunately, the install of glibc depends on a 2.6 kernel and I am running a venerable 2.4 kernel (one more reason to upgrade). The problem is, that the install of a new kernel has an indirect (over locales) dependency to glibc. So, to install glibc, I need a new kernel. For a new kernel, I need to upgrade glibc. Essentially I am blocked. What's the best way to proceed considering I have no "hardware" access? I created a custom (WPF) DataGridBoundColumn and get unexpected behaviour, what am I missing?

Hi, I am using a DataGrid (from Microsoft.Windows.Controls.DataGrid) to display items on and on this DataGrid I use a custom Column which extends DataGridBoundColumn. I have bound an ObservableCollection to the ItemSource of the DataGrid. Conversation is one of my own custom datatypes which a (among other things) has a boolean called active. I bound this boolean to the DataGrid as follows: DataGridActiveImageColumn test = new DataGridActiveImageColumn(); test.Header = "Active"; Binding binding1 = new Binding("Active"); test.Binding = binding1; ConversationsDataGrid.Columns.Add(test); My custom DataGridBoundColumn DataGridActiveImageColumn overrides the GenerateElement method to let it return an Image depending on whether the conversation it is called for is active or not. However: When there are more entries on the DataGrid then fit at any one time (and vertical scrollbars are added) the behavior with respect to the column for all the conversations is strange. The conversations that are initially loaded are correct, but when I use the scrollbar of the DataGrid conversations that enter the view seems to have a random status (although more inactive than active ones, which corresponds to the actual ratio). When I scroll back up, the active images of the Conversations initially shown (before scrolling) are not correct anymore as well. When I replace my custom DataGridBoundColumn class with (for instance) DataGridCheckBoxColumn it works as intended so my extension of the DataGridBoundColumn class must be incomplete. Personally I think it has something to do with the following: From the MSDN page on the GenerateElement method (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.datagridcolumn.generateelement%28VS.95%29.aspx): Return Value Type: System.Windows. FrameworkElement A new, read-only element that is bound to the column's Binding property value. I do return a new element (the image) but it is not bound to anything. Hi all, Using ExtJs. I'm trying to design a main which is divided into three sub panels (a tree list, a grid and a panel). The way it works is that you have a tree list (west) with elements, you click on an element which populates the grid (center), then you click on an element in the grid and that generates the panel (west). My main panel containing the three other ones has been defined with a layout 'border'. Now the problem I face is that the center layout (the grid) has been defined in the code with a fixed width and the west panel as an auto width. But when the interface gets generated, the grid width is suddenly taking all the space in the interface instead of the west panel. Add inset box-shadow on Google Maps element

I am willing to add some inset box-shadow to a tag that is containing a Google Maps element. However, it seems nothing happens, probably because Google loads some other div's in the original element, hence covering the generated box-shadow. How can I achieve this effect? jQuery UI Dialog adding unwanted inline styles to images

I am using JQUery UI to for the front end of a rails app I am developing. I am using jQuery dialog windows for displaying some tabbed data and inside one of these tabs I want to render some images. The rendering of the images works fine if I view the page without Javascript, however for some reason when putting it all in a dialog window all but the last image that I render gets some inline styles from somewhere! wihtout the dialog window: <img alt="Dsc_0085" class="picture" src="/system/sources/3/normal/DSC_0085.jpg?1260300748" /> <img alt="Dsc_0006" class="picture" src="/system/sources/4/normal/DSC_0006.jpg?1260301612" /> with the dialog window: <img alt="Dsc_0085" class="picture" src="/system/sources/3/normal/DSC_0085.jpg?1260300748" style="height: 0px; width: 0px; border-top-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; font-size: 22px; border-left-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; display: inline; "> <img alt="Dsc_0006" class="picture" src="/system/sources/4/normal/DSC_0006.jpg?1260301612" style="display: inline; "> I can't work out why putting the images into a dialog window is giving them inline styles with height and width of 0px, does anyone have any ideas?

It leads me to believe that I am not getting that full image out of memory the correct way. What am I missing here? And on a second note, does the Camera source use significantly more memory than the Photo Albums source? I tend to get more crashes when using the camera.

Deserializing Metafile

I have an application that works with Enhanced Metafiles. I am able to create them, save them to disk as .emf and load them again no problem. I do this by using the gdi32.dll methods and the DLLImport attribute. However, to enable Version Tolerant Serialization I want to save the metafile in an object along with other data. This essentially means that I need to serialize the metafile data as a byte array and then deserialize it again in order to reconstruct the metafile. The problem I have is that the deserialized data would appear to be corrupted in some way, since the method that I use to reconstruct the Metafile raises a "Parameter not valid exception". At the very least the pixel format and resolutions have changed. Code use is below. If this same method is used to save the original Metafile before it is serialized everything is OK. So something is happening to the data during serialization/deserializtion. Indeed if I check the Metafile properties in the debugger I can see that the ImageFlags, PropertyID, resolution and pixelformats change. Original Format32bppRgb changes to Format32bppArgb Original Resolution 81 changes to 96 I've trawled though google and SO and this has helped me get this far but Im now stuck. Does any one have enough experience with Metafiles / serialization to help..? EDIT: If I serialize/deserialize the byte array directly (without embedding in another object) I get the same problem.

Input boxes with transparent background are not clickable in IE8

I have an absolutely positioned input box in a form. The input box has transparent background: .form-page input[type="text"] { border: none; background-color: transparent; /* Other stuff: font-weight, font-size */ } Surprisingly, I cannot select this input box by clicking on it in IE8. It works perfectly in Firefox however. The same happens for background: none. When I change the background color: background-color: red; It works fine, so this is issue associated with transparent background. Setting a border makes the input box selectable by clicking on its border only. Is there a workaround to have clickable input box with transparent background working in IE8? Update: Example. Uncomment background-color and the inputbox is selectable. CSS class not being used on list item with styling

I have a list item thats styled based on the div container it's in. I want to add a "selected" class to that item, but it's not changing the styling. Firebug doesn't show it inhereting any styles from that css style. You'll see I'm adding class="columnTabSelected" to the first tab, but that's not changing anything.
