  • How to populate a generic list of objects in C# from SQL database

    - by developr
I am just learning ASP.NET c# and trying to incorporate best practices into my applications. Everything that I read says to layer my applications into DAL, BLL, UI, etc based on separation of concerns. Instead of passing datatables around, I am thinking about using custom objects so that I am loosely coupled to my data layer and can take advantage of intellisense in VS. I assume these objects would be considered DTOs? First, where do these objects reside in my layers? BLL, DAL, other? Second, when populating from SQL, should I loop through a data reader to populate the list or first fill a data table, then loop through the table to populate the list? I know you should close the database connection as soon as possible, but it seems like even more overhead to populate the data table and then loop through that for the list. Third, everything I see these days says use Linq2SQL. I am planning to learn Linq2SQL, but at this time I am working with a legacy database that doesn't have foreign keys setup and I do not have the ability to fix it atm. Also, I want to learn more about c# before I start getting into ORM solutions like nHibernate. At the same time I don't want to type out all the connection and SQL plumbing for every query. Is it ok to use the Enterprise DAAB for now?

  • What is the equivalent of memset in C#?

    - by Jedidja
I need to fill a byte[] with a single non-zero value. How can I do this in C# without looping through each byte in the array? Update: The comments seem to have split this into two questions - Is there a Framework method to fill a byte[] that might be akin to memset What is the most efficient way to do it when we are dealing with a very large array? I totally agree that using a simple loop works just fine, as Eric and others have pointed out. The point of the question was to see if I could learn something new about C# :) I think Juliet's method for a Parallel operation should be even faster than a simple loop. Benchmarks: Thanks to Mikael Svenson: http://techmikael.blogspot.com/2009/12/filling-array-with-default-value.html It turns out the simple for loop is the way to go unless you want to use unsafe code. Apologies for not being clearer in my original post. Eric and Mark are both correct in their comments; need to have more focused questions for sure. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and responses.

  • Google Maps v3: Enforcing min. zoom level when using fitBounds

    - by chris
I'm drawing a series of markers on a map (using v3 of the maps api). In v2, I had the following code: bounds = new GLatLngBounds(); ... loop thru and put markers on map ... bounds.extend(point); ... end looping map.setCenter(bounds.getCenter()); var level = map.getBoundsZoomLevel(bounds); if ( level == 1 ) level = 5; map.setZoom(level > 6 ? 6 : level); And that work fine to ensure that there was always an appropriate level of detail displayed on the map. I'm trying to duplicate this functionality in v3, but the setZoom and fitBounds don't seem to be cooperating: ... loop thru and put markers on the map var ll = new google.maps.LatLng(p.lat,p.lng); bounds.extend(ll); ... end loop var zoom = map.getZoom(); map.setZoom(zoom > 6 ? 6 : zoom); map.fitBounds(bounds); I've tried different permutation (moving the fitBounds before the setZoom, for example) but nothing I do with setZoom seems to affect the map. Am I missing something? Is there a way to do this?

  • JavaScript - Settting property on Object in Image load function, property not set once outside funct

    - by Sunday Ironfoot
Sometimes JavaScript doesn't make sense to me, consider the following code that generates a photo mosaic based on x/y tiles. I'm trying to set a .Done property to true once each Mosaic image has been downloaded, but it's always false for some reason, what am I doing wrong? var tileData = []; function generate() { var image = new Image(); image.onload = function() { // Build up the 'tileData' array with tile objects from this Image for (var i = 0; i < tileData.length; i++) { var tile = tileData[i]; var tileImage = new Image(); tileImage.onload = function() { // Do something with this tile Image tile.Done = true; }; tileImage.src = tile.ImageUrl; } }; image.src = 'Penguins.jpg'; tryDisplayMosaic(); } function tryDisplayMosaic() { setTimeout(function() { for (var i = 0; i < tileData.length; i++) { var tile = tileData[i]; if (!tile.Done) { tryDisplayMosaic(); return; } } // If we get here then all the tiles have been downloaded alert('All images downloaded'); }, 2000); } Now for some reason the .Done property on the tile object is always false, even though it is explicitly being set to true inside tileImage.onload = function(). And I can ensure you that this function DOES get called because I've placed an alert() call inside it. Right now it's just stuck inside an infinite loop calling tryDisplayMosaic() constantly. Also if I place a loop just before tryDisplayMosaic() is called, and in that loop I set .Done = true, then .Done property is true and alert('All images downloaded'); will get called.

  • JSF: Cannot catch ViewExpiredException

    - by ifischer
I'm developing a JSF 2.0 application on Glassfish v3 and i'm trying to handle the ViewExpiredException. But whatever i do, i always get a Glassfish error report instead of my own error page. To simulate the occurrence of the VEE, i inserted the following function into my backing bean, which fires the VEE. I'm triggering this function from my JSF page through a commandLink. The Code: @Named public class PersonHome { (...) public void throwVEE() { throw new ViewExpiredException(); } } At first i tried it by simply adding an error-page to my web.xml: <error-page> <exception-type>javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException</exception-type> <location>/error.xhtml</location> </error-page> But this doesn't work, i'm not redirected to error but i'm shown the Glassfish errorpage, which shows a HTTP Status 500 page with the following content: description:The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception: javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException root cause: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException:javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException root cause:javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException Next thing i tried was to write ExceptionHandlerFactory and a CustomExceptionHandler, as described in JavaServerFaces 2.0 - The Complete Reference. So i inserted the following tag into faces-config.xml: <factory> <exception-handler-factory> exceptions.ExceptionHandlerFactory </exception-handler-factory> </factory> And added these classes: The factory: package exceptions; import javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandler; public class ExceptionHandlerFactory extends javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandlerFactory { private javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandlerFactory parent; public ExceptionHandlerFactory(javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandlerFactory parent) { this.parent = parent; } @Override public ExceptionHandler getExceptionHandler() { ExceptionHandler result = parent.getExceptionHandler(); result = new CustomExceptionHandler(result); return result; } } The custom exception handler: package exceptions; import java.util.Iterator; import javax.faces.FacesException; import javax.faces.application.NavigationHandler; import javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException; import javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandler; import javax.faces.context.ExceptionHandlerWrapper; import javax.faces.context.FacesContext; import javax.faces.event.ExceptionQueuedEvent; import javax.faces.event.ExceptionQueuedEventContext; class CustomExceptionHandler extends ExceptionHandlerWrapper { private ExceptionHandler parent; public CustomExceptionHandler(ExceptionHandler parent) { this.parent = parent; } @Override public ExceptionHandler getWrapped() { return this.parent; } @Override public void handle() throws FacesException { for (Iterator<ExceptionQueuedEvent> i = getUnhandledExceptionQueuedEvents().iterator(); i.hasNext();) { ExceptionQueuedEvent event = i.next(); System.out.println("Iterating over ExceptionQueuedEvents. Current:" + event.toString()); ExceptionQueuedEventContext context = (ExceptionQueuedEventContext) event.getSource(); Throwable t = context.getException(); if (t instanceof ViewExpiredException) { ViewExpiredException vee = (ViewExpiredException) t; FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(); NavigationHandler nav = fc.getApplication().getNavigationHandler(); try { // Push some useful stuff to the flash scope for // use in the page fc.getExternalContext().getFlash().put("expiredViewId", vee.getViewId()); nav.handleNavigation(fc, null, "/login?faces-redirect=true"); fc.renderResponse(); } finally { i.remove(); } } } // At this point, the queue will not contain any ViewExpiredEvents. // Therefore, let the parent handle them. getWrapped().handle(); } } But STILL i'm NOT redirected to my error page - i'm getting the same HTTP 500 error like above. What am i doing wrong, what could be missing in my implementation so that the exception is handled correctly?

  • Lists NotifyPropertyChanging

    - by Carlo
Well BindingList and ObservableCollection work great to keep data updated and to notify when one of it's objects has changed. However, when notifying a property is about to change, I think these options are not very good. What I have to do right now to solve this (and I warn this is not elegant AT ALL), is to implement INotifyPropertyChanging on the list's type object and then tie that to the object that holds the list PropertyChanging event, or something like the following: // this object will be the type of the BindingList public class SomeObject : INotifyPropertyChanging, INotifyPropertyChanged { private int _intProperty = 0; private string _strProperty = String.Empty; public int IntProperty { get { return this._intProperty; } set { if (this._intProperty != value) { NotifyPropertyChanging("IntProperty"); this._intProperty = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("IntProperty"); } } } public string StrProperty { get { return this._strProperty; } set { if (this._strProperty != value) { NotifyPropertyChanging("StrProperty"); this._strProperty = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("StrProperty"); } } } #region INotifyPropertyChanging Members public event PropertyChangingEventHandler PropertyChanging; #endregion #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion public void NotifyPropertyChanging(string propertyName) { if (this.PropertyChanging != null) PropertyChanging(this, new PropertyChangingEventArgs(propertyName)); } public void NotifyPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if (this.PropertyChanged != null) PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } public class ObjectThatHoldsTheList : INotifyPropertyChanging, INotifyPropertyChanged { public BindingList<SomeObject> BindingList { get; set; } public ObjectThatHoldsTheList() { this.BindingList = new BindingList<SomeObject>(); } // this helps notifie Changing and Changed on Add private void AddItem(SomeObject someObject) { // this will tie the PropertyChanging and PropertyChanged events of SomeObject to this object // so it gets notifies because the BindingList does not notify PropertyCHANGING someObject.PropertyChanging += new PropertyChangingEventHandler(someObject_PropertyChanging); someObject.PropertyChanged += new PropertyChangedEventHandler(someObject_PropertyChanged); this.NotifyPropertyChanging("BindingList"); this.BindingList.Add(someObject); this.NotifyPropertyChanged("BindingList"); } // this helps notifies Changing and Changed on Delete private void DeleteItem(SomeObject someObject) { if (this.BindingList.IndexOf(someObject) > 0) { // this unlinks the handlers so the garbage collector can clear the objects someObject.PropertyChanging -= new PropertyChangingEventHandler(someObject_PropertyChanging); someObject.PropertyChanged -= new PropertyChangedEventHandler(someObject_PropertyChanged); } this.NotifyPropertyChanging("BindingList"); this.BindingList.Remove(someObject); this.NotifyPropertyChanged("BindingList"); } // this notifies an item in the list is about to change void someObject_PropertyChanging(object sender, PropertyChangingEventArgs e) { NotifyPropertyChanging("BindingList." + e.PropertyName); } // this notifies an item in the list has changed void someObject_PropertyChanged(object sender, PropertyChangedEventArgs e) { NotifyPropertyChanged("BindingList." + e.PropertyName); } #region INotifyPropertyChanging Members public event PropertyChangingEventHandler PropertyChanging; #endregion #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion public void NotifyPropertyChanging(string propertyName) { if (this.PropertyChanging != null) PropertyChanging(this, new PropertyChangingEventArgs(propertyName)); } public void NotifyPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if (this.PropertyChanged != null) PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } Sorry, I know this is a lot of code, which takes me back to my main point IT'S A LOT OF CODE to implement this. So my question is, does anyone know a better, shorter, more elegant solution? Thanks for your time and suggestions.

  • jQuery + InnovaStudio WYSIWYG Editor

    - by Phil Sturgeon
    I am trying to avoid hard-coding each instance of this WYSIWYG editor so I am using jQuery to create an each() loop based on function name. Annoyingly InnovaStudio seems to explode when I try. Documentation Attempt #1 <script type="text/javascript"> /* id = $(this).attr('id'); if(id.length == 0) { id = 'wysiwyg-' + wysiwyg_count; $(this).attr('id', id); } WYSIWYG[wysiwyg_count] = new InnovaEditor('WYSIWYG[' + wysiwyg_count + ']'); WYSIWYG[wysiwyg_count].REPLACE(id); */ var demo = new InnovaEditor('demo'); demo.REPLACE('wysiwyg-1'); console.log('loop'); </script> Effect Works fine, but of course only works for a single instance of the editor. If I want multiple instances I need to use an each. Attempt #2: <script type="text/javascript"> var wysiwyg_count = 1; //var WYSIWYG = []; var demo; (function($) { $(function() { $('.wysiwyg-simple').each(function(){ /* id = $(this).attr('id'); if(id.length == 0) { id = 'wysiwyg-' + wysiwyg_count; $(this).attr('id', id); } WYSIWYG[wysiwyg_count] = new InnovaEditor('WYSIWYG[' + wysiwyg_count + ']'); WYSIWYG[wysiwyg_count].REPLACE(id); */ demo = new InnovaEditor('demo'); demo.REPLACE('wysiwyg-1'); console.log('loop'); }); }); })(jQuery); </script> Effect Replaces the entire HTML body of my page with JUST WYSIWYG related code and complains as no JS is available (not even Firebug, so can't debug). Does anybody know what the hell is going on here?

  • Fastest image iteration in Python

    - by Greg
I am creating a simple green screen app with Python 2.7.4 but am getting quite slow results. I am currently using PIL 1.1.7 to load and iterate the images and saw huge speed-ups changing from the old getpixel() to the newer load() and pixel access object indexing. However the following loop still takes around 2.5 seconds to run for an image of around 720p resolution: def colorclose(Cb_p, Cr_p, Cb_key, Cr_key, tola, tolb): temp = math.sqrt((Cb_key-Cb_p)**2+(Cr_key-Cr_p)**2) if temp < tola: return 0.0 else: if temp < tolb: return (temp-tola)/(tolb-tola) else: return 1.0 .... for x in range(width): for y in range(height): Y, cb, cr = fg_cbcr_list[x, y] mask = colorclose(cb, cr, cb_key, cr_key, tola, tolb) mask = 1 - mask bgr, bgg, bgb = bg_list[x,y] fgr, fgg, fgb = fg_list[x,y] pixels[x,y] = ( (int)(fgr - mask*key_color[0] + mask*bgr), (int)(fgg - mask*key_color[1] + mask*bgg), (int)(fgb - mask*key_color[2] + mask*bgb)) Am I doing anything hugely inefficient here which makes it run so slow? I have seen similar, simpler examples where the loop is replaced by a boolean matrix for instance, but for this case I can't see a way to replace the loop. The pixels[x,y] assignment seems to take the most amount of time but not knowing Python very well I am unsure of a more efficient way to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

  • identation control while developing a small python like language

    - by sap
Hello, Im developing a small python like language using flex, byacc (for lexical and parsing) and C++, but i have a few questions regarding scope control. just as python it uses white spaces (or tabs) for identation, not only that but i want to implement index breaking like for instance if you type "break 2" inside a while loop thats inside another while loop it would not only break from the last one but from the first loop as well (hence the number 2 after break) and so on. example: while 1 while 1 break 2 end end #after break 2 it would jump right here but since i dont have an "anti" tab character to check when a scope ends (like C for example i would just use the '}' char) i was wondering if this method would the the best: i would define a global variable, like "int tabIndex" on my yacc file that i would access in my lex file using extern. then everytime i find a tab character on my lex file i would increment that variable by 1. when parsing on my yacc file if i find a "break" keyword i would decrement by the amount typed after it from the tabIndex variable, and when i reach and EOF after compiling and i get a tabIndex != 0 i would output compilation error. now the problem is, whats the best way to see if the identation got reduced, should i read \b (backspace) chars from lex and then reduce the tabIndex variable (when the user doesnt use break)? another method to achieve this? also just another small question, i want every executable to have its starting point on the function called start() should i hardcode this onto my yacc file? sorry for the long question any help is greatly appretiated. also if someone can provide an yacc file for python would be nice as a guideline (tried looking on google and had no luck). thanks in advance.

  • Check if files in a directory are still being written in Windows Batch File

    - by FMFF
Hello. Here's my batch file to parse a directory, and zip files of certain type REM Begin ------------------------ tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq 7za.exe" /FO CSV > search.log FOR /F %%A IN (search.log) DO IF %%~zA EQU 0 GOTO end for /f "delims=" %%A in ('dir C:\Temp\*.ps /b') do ( "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\cmdline\7za.exe" a -tzip -mx9 "C:\temp\Zip\%%A.zip" "C:\temp\%%A" Move "C:\temp\%%A" "C:\Temp\Archive" ) :end del search.log REM pause exit REM End --------------------------- This code works just fine for 90% of my needs. It will be deployed as a scheduled task. However, the *.ps files are rather large (minimum of 1GB) in real time cases. So the code is supposed to check if the incoming file is completely written and is not locked by the application that is writing it. I saw another example elsewhere, that suggested the following approach :TestFile ren c:\file.txt c:\file.txt if errorlevel 0 goto docopy sleep 5 goto TestFile :docopy However this example is good for a fixed file. How can I use that many labels and GoTo's inside a for loop without causing an infinite loop? Or is this code safe to be used in the For Loop? Thank you for any help.

  • theoretical and practical matrix multiplication FLOP

    - by mjr
I wrote traditional matrix multiplication in c++ and tried to measure and compare its theoretical and practical FLOP. As I know inner loop of MM has 2 operation therefore simple MM theoretical Flops is 2*n*n*n (2n^3) but in practice I get something like 4n^3 + number of operation which is 2 i.e. 6n^3 also if I just try to add up only one array a[i][j]++ practical flops then calculate like 3n^3 and not n^3 as you see again it is 2n^3 +1 operation and not 1 operation * n^3 . This is in case if I use 1D array in three nested loops as Matrix multiplication and compare flop, practical flop is the same (near) the theoretical flop and depend exactly as the number of operation in inner loop.I could not find the reason for this behaviour. what is the reason in both case? I know that theoretical flop is not the same as practical one because of some operations like load etc. system specification: Intel core2duo E4500 3700g memory L2 cache 2M x64 fedora 17 sample results: Matrix matrix multiplication 512*512 Real_time: 1.718368 Proc_time: 1.227672 Total flpops: 807,107,072 MFLOPS: 657.429016 Real_time: 3.608078 Proc_time: 3.042272 Total flpops: 807,024,448 MFLOPS: 265.270355 theoretical flop: 2*512*512*512=268,435,456 Practical flops= 6*512^3 =807,107,072 Using 1 dimensional array float d[size][size]:512 or any size for (int j = 0; j < size; ++j) { for (int k = 0; k < size; ++k) { d[k]=d[k]+e[k]+f[k]+g[k]+r; } } Real_time: 0.002288 Proc_time: 0.002260 Total flpops: 1,048,578 MFLOPS: 464.027161 theroretical flop: *4n^2=4*512^2=1,048,576* practical flop : 4n^2+overhead (other operation?)=1,048,578 3 loop version: Real_time: 1.282257 Proc_time: 1.155990 Total flpops: 536,872,000 MFLOPS: 464.426117 theoretical flop:4n^3 = 536,870,912 practical flop: *4n^3=4*512^3+overheads(other operation?)=536,872,000* thank you

  • Placing component on Glass Pane

    - by Chris Lieb
I have a subclass of JLabel that forms a component of my GUI. I have implemented the ability to drag and drop the component from one container to another, but without any visual effects. I want to have this JLabel follow the cursor during the drag of the item from one container to another. I figured that I could just create a glass pane and draw it on there. • Strange behavior due to wx.Frame.SetTitle

    - by Anurag Uniyal
In a wxPython application, which i am porting to Mac OSX, I set title of app frame every 500msec in update UI event, and due to that all the panels and windows are refreshed. That seems strange to me and almost halts my application which has many custom drawn controls and screens. I wanted to know what could be the reason behind it, is it normal for MAC? Here is a self-constrained script which replicates the scenario using timers. It keeps on printing "on paint" every 500ms because in timer I set title every 500ms. import wx app = wx.PySimpleApp() frame = wx.Frame(None, title="BasePainter Test") painter = wx.Panel(frame) def onPaint(event): dc = wx.PaintDC(painter) print "onPaint" painter.Bind(wx.EVT_PAINT, onPaint) def loop(): frame.SetTitle(frame.GetTitle()) wx.CallLater(500, loop) loop() frame.Show(True) app.SetTopWindow(frame) app.MainLoop() My system details: >>> sys.version '2.5 (r25:51918, Sep 19 2006, 08:49:13) \n[GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5341)]' >>> wx.VERSION (2, 8, 10, 1, '') >>> os.uname() ('Darwin', 'agyeys-mac-mini.local', '9.8.0', 'Darwin Kernel Version 9.8.0: Wed Jul 15 16:55:01 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1228.15.4~1/RELEASE_I386', 'i386')

  • How to write a decent process filter?

    - by konr
Hi there, I'm building a program that communicates with Emacs, and one of the challenges I'm facing is writing Emacs's process filter function. Its input string is a series of s-expressions to be evaluated. Here is a sample: (gimme-append-to-buffer "25 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Scene 2. Prelude - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "26 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Cybele: 'Je Veux Joindre' - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "27 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Scene 3. Cybele: 'Tu T'Etonnes, Melisse' - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "28 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Cybele: 'Que Les Plus Doux Zephyrs'. Scene 4. - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "29 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Entree Des Nations - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "30 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Entree Des Zephyrs - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "31 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Choeur Des Nations' 'Que Devant Vous' - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "32 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Atys: 'Indigne Que Je Suis' - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "33 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Florissants - Reprise Du Choeur Des Nations : 'Que Devant Nous' - Les Arts Florissants\n") (gimme-append-to-buffer "34 - William Christie dir, Les Arts Flor*emphasized text*issants - Reprise De L'Air Des Zephyrs - Les Arts Florissants\n") The first problem that I've faced is that the string is somehow not fully formed when the function is so called, so writing something like (mapcar 'eval (format "(%s)" input-string)) won't work. To deal with this first problem, I was using a loop. The full function I wrote is: (defun eval-all-sexps (s) (loop for x = (ignore-errors (read-from-string s)) then (ignore-errors (read-from-string (substring s position))) while x summing (or (cdr x) 0) into position doing (eval (car x)))) Now the second problem that showed up is that the function is called twice with a somewhat large input, first with valid but partial content, then with what looks like pieces of the remaining data. To solve this problem, I'm considering using a junk variable to hold up what remains from a loop and then concatenating it to the input of the next call, but I was wondering if you guys have any other suggestions on how to deal with such a problem more elegantly. Thanks!

  • Troubles Iterating Over A HashMap with JSF, MyFaces & Facelets

    - by Lee Theobald
Hi all, I'm having some trouble looping over a HashMap to print out it's values to the screen. Could someone double check my code to see what I'm doing wrong. I can't seem to find anything wrong but there must be something. In a servlet, I am adding the following to the request: Map<String, String> facetValues = new HashMap<String, String>(); // Filling the map req.setAttribute(facetField.getName(), facetValues); In one case "facetField.getName()" evaluates to "discipline". So in my page I have the following: <ui:repeat value="${requestScope.discipline}" var="item"> <li>Item: <c:out value="${item}"/>, Key: <c:out value="${item.key}"/>, Value: <c:out value="${item.item}"/></li> </ui:repeat> The loop is ran once but all the outputs are blank?!? I would have at least expected something in item if it's gone over the loop once. Checking the debug popup for Facelets, discipline is there and on the loop. Printing it to the screen results in something that looks like a map to me (I've shortened the output) : {300=0, 1600=0, 200=0, ... , 2200=0} I've also tried with a c:forEach but I'm getting the same results. So does anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong? Thanks for any input, Lee

  • Clojure agents consuming from a queue

    - by erikcw
I'm trying to figure out the best way to use agents to consume items from a Message Queue (Amazon SQS). Right now I have a function (process-queue-item) that grabs an items from the queue, and processes it. I want to process these items concurrently, but I can't wrap my head around how to control the agents. Basically I want to keep all of the agents busy as much as possible without pulling to many items from the Queue and developing a backlog (I'll have this running on a couple of machines, so items need to be left in the queue until they are really needed). Can anyone give me some pointers on improving my implementation? (def active-agents (ref 0)) (defn process-queue-item [_] (dosync (alter active-agents inc)) ;retrieve item from Message Queue (Amazon SQS) and process (dosync (alter active-agents dec))) (defn -main [] (def agents (for [x (range 20)] (agent x))) (loop [loop-count 0] (if (< @active-agents 20) (doseq [agent agents] (if (agent-errors agent) (clear-agent-errors agent)) ;should skip this agent until later if it is still busy processing (not sure how) (send-off agent process-queue-item))) ;(apply await-for (* 10 1000) agents) (Thread/sleep 10000) (logging/info (str "ACTIVE AGENTS " @active-agents)) (if (> 10 loop-count) (do (logging/info (str "done, let's cleanup " count)) (doseq [agent agents] (if (agent-errors agent) (clear-agent-errors agent))) (apply await agents) (shutdown-agents)) (recur (inc count)))))

  • Returning from dll (Asynchronous sockets)

    - by Juha
I am trying to do a simple http-server in (c++) dll-file that I can use from managed (C#) application with P/Invoke. I was trying to do this with asynchronous functions (WSAAsyncSelect() and stuff), so that I could manage server by calling functions inside dll whenever needed and after that it would return to my main program. Now I'm not sure if that is even possible. It seems that "main function" in dll, the function that starts the server, has to include message loop or something and since it's a loop, it doesn't return from dll ever. Could I somehow do this message stuff in my managed application and call some function in dll when there is something to do? Or is it even possible to do this stuff in one thred? I would really like to avoid all concurrency stuff. The dll looks now basicly the same as here, main function is the one that I call from managed C# program and would like to return to there after calling the function. http://www.winsocketdotnetworkprogramming.com/winsock2programming/winsock2advancediomethod5b.html I'm quite noob in windows programming, and never even heard of this message-queue or message-loop.

  • Niewbie OutOfMemory problem

    - by Nick
So I am trying to create a producer/consumer type scala app. The LoopControl just sends a message to the MessageReceiver continoually. The MessageReceiver then delegates work to the MessageCreatorActor (whose work is to check a map for an object, and if not found create one and start it up). Each MessageActor created by this MessageCreatorActor is associated with an Id. Eventually this is where I want to do business logic. But I run out of memory after 15 minutes. Any help is appreciated import scala.actors.Actor import java.util.HashMap; import scala.actors.Actor._ case object LoopControl case object MessageReceiver case object MessageActor case object MessageActorCreator class MessageReceiver(msg: String) extends Actor { var messageActorMap = new HashMap[String, MessageActor] val messageCreatorActor = new MessageActorCreator(null, null) def act() { messageCreatorActor.start loop { react { case MessageActor(messageId) = if (msg.length() 0) { var messageActor = messageActorMap.get(messageId); if(messageActor == null) { messageCreatorActor ! MessageActorCreator(messageId, messageActorMap) }else { messageActor ! MessageActor } } } } } } case class MessageActorCreator(msg:String, messageActorMap: HashMap[String, MessageActor]) extends Actor { def act() { loop { react { case MessageActorCreator(messageId, messageActorMap) = if(messageId != null ) { var messageActor = new MessageActor(messageId); messageActorMap.put(messageId, messageActor) println(messageActorMap) messageActor.start messageActor ! • SharePoint: Problem with BaseFieldControl

    - by Anoop
Hi All, In below code in a Gird First column is BaseFieldControl from a column of type Choice of SPList. Secound column is a text box control with textchange event. Both the controls are created at rowdatabound event of gridview. Now the problem is that when Steps: 1) select any of the value from BaseFieldControl(DropDownList) which is rendered from Choice Column of SPList 2) enter any thing in textbox in another column of grid. 3) textchanged event fires up and in textchange event rebound the grid. Problem: the selected value becomes the first item or the default value(if any). but if i do not rebound the grid at text changed event it works fine.
