Accessing a class's containing namespace from within a module

I'm working on a module that, among other things, will add some generic 'finder' type functionality to the class you mix it into. The problem: for reasons of convenience and aesthetics, I want to include some functionality outside the class, in the same scope as the class itself. For example: class User include MyMagicMixin end # Should automagically enable: User.name('Bob') # Returns first user named Bob Users.name('Bob') # Returns ALL users named Bob User(5) # Returns the user with an ID of 5 Users # Returns all users I can do the functionality within these methods, no problem. And case 1 (User.name('Bob')) is easy. Cases 2–4, however, require being able to create new classes and methods outside User. The Module.included method gives me access to the class, but not to its containing scope. There is no simple "parent" type method that I can see on Class nor Module. (For namespace, I mean, not superclass nor nested modules.) The best way I can think to do this is with some string parsing on the class's #name to break out its namespace, and then turn the string back into a constant. But that seems clumsy, and given that this is Ruby, I feel like there should be a more elegant way. Does anyone have ideas? Or am I just being too clever for my own good?

FileNotFoundException, although the XML file should be deployed

Hi, I've got problems starting my WAR application on a local JBoss. And at least I get a message that the deployment of the EAR has been successful. I also looked into the JAR with my file archiver and the ContextBasic.xml is indeed there at the right place. Is there a way for me to get sure that the JAR, not the EAR as a whole, is really deployed to the JBoss? I'm already starting to lose my head about this issue. Thank you. Bernhard

Using perl to split a line that may contain whitespace

Okay, so I'm using perl to read in a file that contains some general configuration data. This data is organized into headers based on what they mean. An example follows: [vars] # This is how we define a variable! $var = 10; $str = "Hello thar!"; # This section contains flags which can be used to modify module behavior # All modules read this file and if they understand any of the flags, use them [flags] Verbose = true; # Notice the errant whitespace! [path] WinPath = default; # Keyword which loads the standard PATH as defined by the operating system. Append with additonal values. LinuxPath = default; Goal: Using the first line as an example "$var = 10;", I'd like to use the split function in perl to create an array that contains the characters "$var" and "10" as elements. Using another line as an example: Verbose = true; # Should become [Verbose, true] aka no whitespace is present This is needed because I will be outputting these values to a new file (which a different piece of C++ code will read) to instantiate dictionary objects. Just to give you a little taste of what it might look like (just making it up as I go along): define new dictionary name: [flags] # Start defining keys => values new key name: Verbose new value val: 10 # End dictionary Oh, and here is the code I currently have along with what it is doing (incorrectly): sub makeref($) { my @line = (split (/=/)); # Produces ["Verbose", " true"]; }

Debug Symbols not loading

I am trying to enable visual studio to step through the .net framework source code when I am debugging. I have tried with both Visual Web-Developer-Express-2010 and Visual-Studio-2011-Express-For-Web and I am getting the same problem with each. When I get to the break point at the .net method I wish to step into I do right-clickstep-into-specificclick-method-to-step-into. Then VS opens a new tab. saying it couldn't find or load the symbols. It gives a list of the assembly symbols it looked for. There is also a 'Load Symbols hyperlink which doesn't work. And another hyperlink that takes me to the debug settings dialog. I have read tutorials on how to set it up and have believe I have the correct settings. In the debugging general settings I have - enable address-level debugging - checked enable source server support - checked enable .net framework source stepping - checked enable just my code - not checked In the debugging symbol settings I have - symbol file (.pdb) locations - Microsoft Symbol Servers - checked Caching Directory - C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Temp\SymbolCache Automatically load symbols for: all modules unless excluded - checked Why is it not working? How does it affect me as a developer/engineer/company that Android is open source

I understand the concept of open source, but I just realized now that I understand it from only one view: when I open source my own code. I don't really understand what benefit I'm getting from receiving the same thing. As a regular developer (like the majority of us here), I did not spend the past 4 years of my life working on "developing" the android. So even though I'm a developer, I'm at the end of the developers chain when it comes to the Android (like most of us). I'm really more of an end user. So my interest in Android isn't really to dedicate all my time to it or work on improving its kernel or anything overly ambitious. So with that clear, as a developer considering developing for the Android, how does it really benefit me that it's open source? What's the added benefit that I'm missing? Can other developers share some concrete ways that its open source status actually affects us as developers. Basically I'm trying to understand how we, at this developer level, can make sense of the fact that it's open source, or is its open source status just hype for us at our end developer level. Thanks

How do I stop cpan from reconfiguring each time? + More

I'm running on a Mac (version 10.6.3) and am struggling to understand what is going on with my Perl installation. I let the system do a copy from my previous mac, and I appear to have a second perl installed, which appears earlier in my path. I can't tell (or remember) if I might have installed it with fink, macports or CPAN or what. type -a cpan cpan is /opt/local/bin/cpan cpan is /usr/bin/cpan I'm seeing two oddities. (To start with!) When I run cpan, and let it configure in ~lcuff/.cpan, each time I run it, it wants to reconfigure, giving the message: Sorry, we have to rerun the configuration dialog for CPAN.pm due to some missing parameters... Also, when I try to install File::Find::Rule (so I can list my CPAN modules, per the FAQ) I end up with an error message that I can't decipher or Google a solution for: Use of inherited AUTOLOAD for non-method Digest::SHA::shaopen() is deprecated at /opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/Digest/SHA.pm line 55. Finding latency issues (stalls) in embedded Linux systems

I have an embedded Linux system running on an Atmel AT91SAM9260EK board on which I have two processes running at real-time priority. A manager process periodically "pings" a worker process using POSIX message queues to check the health of the worker process. Usually the round-trip ping takes about 1ms, but very occasionally it takes much longer - about 800ms. There are no other processes that run at a higher priority. It appears the stall may be related to logging (syslog). If I stop logging the problem seems to go away. However it makes no difference if the log file is on JFFS2 or NFS. No other processes are writing to the "disk" - just syslog. What tools are available to me to help me track down why these stalls are occurring? I am aware of latencytop and will be using that. Are there some other tools that may be more useful? Some details: Kernel version: 2.6.32.8 libc (syslog functions): uClibc 0.9.30.1 syslog: busybox 1.15.2

Mysqli query only works on localhost, not webserver

Hello. I have changed some of my old queries to the Mysqli framework to improve performance. Everything works fine on localhost but when i upload it to the webserver it outputs nothing. After connecting I check for errors and there are none. I also checked the php modules installed and mysqli is enabled. I am certain that it creates a connection to the database as no errors are displayed. (when i changed the database name string it gave the error) There is no output from the query on the webserver, which looks like this: $mysqli = new mysqli("server", "user", "password"); if (mysqli_connect_errno()) { printf("Can't connect Errorcode: %s\n", mysqli_connect_error()); exit; } // Query used $query = "SELECT name FROM users WHERE id = ?"; if ($stmt = $mysqli->prepare("$query")) { // Specify parameters to replace '?' $stmt->bind_param("d", $id); $stmt->execute(); // bind variables to prepared statement $stmt->bind_result($_userName); while ($stmt->fetch()) { echo $_userName; } $stmt-close(); } } //close connection $mysqli-close(); As I said this code works perfectly on my localserver just not online. Checked the error logs and there is nothing so everything points to a good connection. All the tables exists as well etc. Anyone any ideas because this one has me stuck! Also, if i get this working, will all my other queries still work? Or will i need to make them use the mysqli framework as well? Thanks in advance.

Why isn't module_filters filtering Mail::IspMailGate in CPAN::Mini?

Edited - Ummm - now have a module in schwigon giving same problem !! I am on a corporate PC that forces mcshield on everything that moves. I get blocked when trying to mirror on ... authors/id/J/JV/JV/EekBoek-2.00.01.tar.gz ... updated authors/id/J/JV/JV/CHECKSUMS ... updated Could not stat tmpfile '/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz-4712': No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10/LWP/UserAgent.pm line 851. authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz At this point, I get the Virus scanner mcshield sticking its Awr in. To maintain my mirror I execute:- #!/usr/bin/perl CPAN::Mini->update_mirror( remote => "http://mirror.eunet.fi/CPAN", local => "/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/", trace => 1, errors => 1, module_filters => [ qr/kjkjhkjhkjkj/i, qr/clamav/i, qr/ispmailgate/i, qr/IspMailGate/, qr/Mail-IspMailGate/, qr/mail-ispmailgate/i, ], path_filters => [ qr/ZZYYZZ/, #qr/WIED/, #qr/RJBS/, ] ); It skips OK if I enable the path_filter WIED. Just cannot get it to skip the module failing module to complete other WIED modules. Any ideas?

Epoll in EPOLLET mode returning 2 EPOLLIN before reading from the socket

The epoll manpage says that a fd registered with EPOLLET(edge triggered) shouldn't notify twice EPOLLIN if no read has been done. So after an EPOLLIN you need to empty the buffer before epoll_wait being able to return a new EPOLLIN on new data. However I'm experiencing problems with this approach as I'm seeing duplicated EPOLLIN events for untouched fds. Configure WebLogic MDB to listen to Foreing AMQ Server

I'm trying to create an MDB(EJB 3.0) on WebLogic 10.3.5. to listen to a Queue in an external AMQ server. but after much work and combination of tutorials i get the followin error when deployin on WwebLogic. [EJB:015027]The Message-Driven EJB is transactional but JMS connection factory referenced by the JNDI name: ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory is not a JMS XA connection factory. Here is a brief of the work i have done: I have added the corresponding libraries to my WLS classpath (following thos tuturial http://amadei.com.br/blog/index.php/connecting-weblogic-and-activemq) and I have created the corresponding JMS Modules as indicated in the tutorial. As connection factory I have used ActiveMQConnectionFactory initially and ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory later, I also ignome the jms. notation an just put plain names as testQueue. Then create a simple MDB whit the following structure. I explicitly defined "connectionFactoryJndiName" property because otherwise it assumes a WebLogic connection factory which is not found an then raises an error. @MessageDriven( activationConfig = { @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "testQueue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "connectionFactoryJndiName", propertyValue = "ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory") }, mappedName = "testQueue") public class ROMELReceiver implements MessageListener { /** * Default constructor. */ public ROMELReceiver() { // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } /** * @see MessageListener#onMessage(Message) */ public void onMessage(Message message) { System.out.println("Message received"); } } At this point I'm stuck with the error mentioned above. Even though I use ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory instead of simply ActiveMQConnectionFactory, JNDI resources tree in web logic server shows org.apache.activemq.ActiveMQConnectionFactory as class for my configured connection factory. am i missing something? or is this just a completely wrong way to connect WebLogic whith AMQ? security negotiation with the remote endpoint has failed. This may be due to absent or incorrectly specified EndpointIdentity in the EndpointAddress used to create the channel. Please verify the EndpointIdentity specified or implied by the EndpointAddress correctly identifies the remote endpoint. What's the best way to develop a debugging window for an ajax ASP.Net MVC application

While developing my ASP.NET MVC, I have started to see the need for a debugging console window to assist in figuring out what is going right and wrong in my code. I read the last few chapters of the Pro Asp.net MVC book, and the author details how to use http modules to show page load/creation times and linq to sql query logs, both of which I definitely want to be able to see. However, since I am loading a lot of small sections of my page individually with ajax I don't want the debug information right there in the middle of my screen. So the idea I came up with was to have a separate browser window (open-able by a link or some javascript) with a console log, that can contain logged entries both from javascript and from the asp.net mvc run. The former should be relatively easy, but I'm having trouble coming up with a way to log the asp.net information in ajax requests. The direction I have been thinking of going is to create an httpmodule (like the Pro MVC book does), and have that module contain some that append the javascript's log to console calls with the messages. The issue I see with this is finding a way to get the log messages from the controller's action methods to the httpmodule's methods. The only way I see to do this is with a singleton, but I'm not sure if singletons are bad practice for a stateless web application. Furthermore, it seems like if I return json with my ajax calls (instead of pure html) then that won't work at all anyways and unless there is a way to add data to an existing json structure inside the httpmodule. How does everyone else handle this type of debugging in heavily ajax applications? For reference, the javascript library I am using is jquery.

How do I begin reading source code?

I understand the value of reading source code, and I am trying my best to read as much as I can. However, every time I try getting into a 'large' (i.e. complete) project of sorts, I am overwhelmed. For example, I use Anki a lot when revising languages. Also, I'm interested in getting to know how an audio player works (because I have some project ideas), hence quodlibet on Google Code. But whenever I open the source code folders for the above programs, there are just so many files that I don't know where or what to begin with. I think that I should start with files marked init.py but I can't see the logical structure of the programs, or what reasoning was applied when the original writer divided his modules the way he did. Hence, my questions: How/where should I begin reading source? Any general tips or ideas? How does a programmer keep in mind the overall structure and logic of the program, especially for large projects, and is it common not to document that structure? As an open source reader, must I look through all of the code and get a bird's eye view of the code and libraries, before even being able to proceed? Would an IDE like Eclipse SDK (with PyDev) help with code-reading? Thanks for the help; I really appreciate your helping me.

Why isn't module_filters filetering Mail::IspMailGate in CPAN::Mini?

Edited - Ummm - now have a module in schwigon giving same problem !! I am on a corporate PC that forces mcshield on everything that moves. I get blocked when trying to mirror on ... authors/id/J/JV/JV/EekBoek-2.00.01.tar.gz ... updated authors/id/J/JV/JV/CHECKSUMS ... updated Could not stat tmpfile '/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz-4712': No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10/LWP/UserAgent.pm line 851. authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz At this point, I get the Virus scanner mcshield sticking its Awr in. To maintain my mirror I execute:- #!/usr/bin/perl CPAN::Mini->update_mirror( remote => "http://mirror.eunet.fi/CPAN", local => "/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/", trace => 1, errors => 1, module_filters => [ qr/kjkjhkjhkjkj/i, qr/clamav/i, qr/ispmailgate/i, qr/IspMailGate/, qr/Mail-IspMailGate/, qr/mail-ispmailgate/i, ], path_filters => [ qr/ZZYYZZ/, #qr/WIED/, #qr/RJBS/, ] ); It skips OK if I enable the path_filter WIED. Just cannot get it to skip the module failing module to complete other WIED modules. Any ideas?

gwt maven war plugin configuration problem

I am developing a gwt application in maven. In this I am using maven war plugin. Everything works fine. When I give mvn install command it builds abc.war file in target folder. But it is not copying compiled javascript files ("module1" and "module2" directories present in target) to war directory. I want to get newly compiled javascript files in war directory. Liferay: Customise the web.xml HeaderFilter added during portlet deloyment

I need to customise the deployment of my liferay portlet such that the GWT nocache.js files don't get a 'Expires' HTTP header set. My war file looks like this: view.jsp com.foobar.MyEntryPoint/com.foobar.MyEntryPoint.nocache.js com.foobar.MyEntryPoint/12312312313213123123123.cache.html WEB-INF/web.xml WEB-INF/portlet.xml WEB-INF/liferay-portlet.xml ... etc my web.xml is pretty much empty (only has the displayName) On deployment this is rewritten my liferay to have a series of filters in particalar: Header Filter com.liferay.portal.kernel.servlet.PortalClassLoaderFilter filter-class com.liferay.portal.servlet.filters.header.HeaderFilter Cache-Control max-age=315360000, public Expires 315360000 Header Filter *.js This filter adds an Expires header for about 2020 to the .nocache.js js files... the trouble is these files really shouldn't be cached (the hint is in the name :) For development purposes I have worked around this by disabling the filter using: com.liferay.portal.servlet.filters.header.HeaderFilter=false in portal-ext.properties globaly. What I what I would like to to is one of the following: Disable HeaderFilter only for this portlet or war file. I can always add my own expires Add an init-param to the HeaderFilter to match anything other than .nocache.js files Any ideas how either of these things could be achieved? Stack: liferay-6.0.1 CE, Windows 7, java 1.6.0_18, GWT 2.0.3

Get directory path by fd

I've run into the need to be able refer to a directory by path given its file descriptor in Linux. The path doesn't have to be canonical, it just has to be functional so that I can pass it to other functions. So, taking the same parameters as passed to a function like fstatat(), I need to be able to call a function like getxattr() which doesn't have a f-XYZ-at() variant. So far I've come up with these solutions; though none are particularly elegant. The simplest solution is to avoid the problem by calling openat() and then using a function like fgetxattr(). This works, but not in every situation. So another method is needed to fill the gaps. The next solution involves looking up the information in proc: if (!access("/proc/self/fd",X_OK)) { sprintf(path,"/proc/self/fd/%i/",fd); } This, of course, totally breaks on systems without proc, including some chroot environments. The last option, a more portable but potentially-race-condition-prone solution, looks like this: DIR* save = opendir("."); fchdir(fd); getcwd(path,PATH_MAX); fchdir(dirfd(save)); closedir(save); The obvious problem here is that in a multithreaded app, changing the working directory around could have side effects. However, the fact that it works is compelling: if I can get the path of a directory by calling fchdir() followed by getcwd(), why shouldn't I be able to just get the information directly: fgetcwd() or something. Clearly the kernel is tracking the necessary information. So how do I get to it?

Using Mod-Rewrite in XAMPP

I've followed some tutorials on how to use Mod_Rewrite, but it's not working out. Linux RFID reader HID Device not matching driver

Hello, I got a RFID reader (GigaTek PCR330A-00) that is meant to be recognized under linux/windows as a (Human Interface Device) keyboard/USB. I hate to say this but it is working as a charm under Win7 but not "really" under Linux. Under Debian-like distros (x/k/Ubuntu, Debian,..), or Gentoo, or... I just can't have the device working at all: the device scan well (it has its USB 5V, so it is happy/beeping/blinking) something happened in the dmesg, but no immediate screen display of the RFID Tag code as expected (and seen under win7) Support is claiming it is ok under RHEL or SLED "enterprises" distros... and I must admit I saw it working under a RHEL4... I tried stealing the driver but did not succeed having my reader working... My question is thus double: 1./ How can I hack the kernel to add support to my device (simply register PID/VID?) ? 2./ What is different at all in a "enterprise" proprietary distro? how can I re-use it? Getting a "No default module defined for this application" exception while running controller unit t

I have an application with the default directory structure, for an application without custom modules (see structure figure at the end). I have written a ControllerTestCase.php file as instructed in many tutorials, and I've created the appropriate bootstrap file as well (once again, see figures at the end). I've written some model tests which run just fine, but when I started writing the index controller test file, with only one test in it, with only one line in it ("$this-dispatch('/');"), I'm getting the following exception when running phpunit (but navigating with the browser to the same location - all is good and working): 1) IndexControllerTest::test_indexAction_noParams Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application Why is this ? What have I done wrong ? Assigning specific menu administration rights for roles in drupal

Hello folks. I'm trying to give one of my roles the administrative rights to add/remove content in a specific menu (but not all menus). I think I found a module that should enable something like this, http://drupalmodules.com/module/delegate-menu-administration I've followed the instructions, added the role to my user, checked the "administer some menus" value for that role and checked the "Make admin" field for that role and specific menu in Menus. I also gave the role permissions to change page and story content. However, it still wont let the user add any new content it creates in any menu, and I get an error message saying "warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/martin/www/drupal/modules/delegate_menu_admin/delegate_menu_admin.module on line 346." Line 346 looks like this: foreach ($form['menu']['parent']['#options'] as $key => $value) { I did a print_r($form); in the file just before it and there's no such array that I can see: [menu] => Array ( [#access] => 1 [delete] => Array ( [#access] => ) ) When I gave the role "administer menu" permissions, nothing extra was printed at all, leading me to the assumption that the delegate_menu_admin.module file is not used at all while both the "administer menu" and the "administer some menus" (from the delegate-menu-administration module) permissions are set! Is this some incompatibility between the module because of some drupal update? Or am I just too tired and too stupid? :)
