    It often happens to me to handle data that can be either an array or a null variable and to feed some foreach with these data. $values = get_values(); foreach ($values as $value){ ... } When you feed a foreach with data that are not an array, you get a warning: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [...] Assuming it's not possible to refactor the get_values() function to always return an array (backward compatibility, not available source code, whatever other reason), I'm wondering which is the cleanest and most efficient way to avoid these warnings: Casting $values to array Initializing $values to array Wrapping the foreach with an if Other (please suggest)

    I'm trying to make a web app that will manage my Mercurial repositories for me. I want it so that when I tell it to load repository X: Connect to a MySQL server and make sure X exists. Check if the user is allowed to access the repository. If above is true, get the location of X from a mysql server. Run a hgweb cgi script (python) containing the path of the repository. Here is the problem, I want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, and run it. But I do not want to: take the hgweb script, modify it, write it to a file and redirect there. I am using Apache to run the httpd process.

  • Debugging 500 Internal Server Error on PHP running on IIS7 cluster

    Recently my ISP switched our website to an IIS7.0 high availibility cluster. The website is running on PHP5.2.1 and I can only upload files (so no registry tweaks). I had tested the website before and everything seemed to be working, but now the checkout page fails with: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. As error messages go, this isn't very informative. I've tried: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('error_log', $file_php_can_write_to ); but both don't seem to do anything. Anyone know how to get better debugging output?

  • I need help with creating a data structure in PHP

    What I need to do is have a data structure that shows jobs organised into 14 day periods, but only when an id is the same. I've implemented all sorts of stuff, but they have failed miserably. Ideally, maybe a SQL expert could handle all of this in the query. Here is some of my code. I also think I'm doing it wrong because I need to check the earliest date. Is it possible at all to do any of this in the database query? To recap, here is my problem I have a list of jobs with all have a rig_id (many jobs can have the same) and a date. I need the data to be organised into hitches. That is, the rig_id must be the same per hitch, and they must span a 14 day period, in which the next 14 days with the same rig_id will be a new hitch. Can someone please point me on the right track? Is there a way to have multiple of the same keys with different values? Or is there another form of array that has the same format?     Hi, I'm trying to sort an array of objects by a common property, however I cannot get my $property parameter to register in the inner function (I can use it in the outer one OK). The way I read the documentation, it sounded like the parameter would be available, have I misunderstood something? I would like to change a css attriubute on a specific anchor tag and class when it is clicked so lets say the background color is changed.     i have a form, and i want to have it be limited at 10 characters minimum. that is no problem, but what i want to do is echo the error at the top of the page, which is being included, so i cant just do: echo '<div class="error">Error</div>'; i want to have a designated div that is empty (will be on the included header page), but when there is an error it gets filled with the error text to output. anyone know how to do this not using sessions or cookies?

  • find and replace values in a flat-file using PHP

    I'd think there was a question on this already, but I can't find one. Maybe the solution is too easy... Anyway, I have a flat-file and want to let the user change the values based on a name. I've already sorted out creating new name+value-pairs using the fopen('a') mode, using jQuery to send the AJAX call with newValue and newName. But say the content looks like this: host|http:www.stackoverflow.com folder|/questions/ folder2|/users/ And now I want to change the folder value. So I'll send in folder as oldName and /tags/ as newValue. What's the best way to overwrite the value? The order in the list doesn't matter, and the name will always be on the left, followed by a |(pipe), the value and then a new-line. My first thought was to read the list, store it in an array, search all the [0]'s for oldName, then change the [1] that belongs to it, and then write it back to a file. But I feel there is a better way around this? Any ideas? Maybe regex?
