  • C# WMI, Performance Counters, & SNMP Oh My!

    I have a C# windows service which listens to a MSMQ and sends each message out as an email. Since there's no UI, I'd like to offer an ability to monitor this service to see things such as # messages in queue, # emails sent (by message type perhaps), # of errors, etc. What is the best/recommended way to accomplish this? Is it WMI or performance counters? Is this data viewed using PerfMon or WMI CIM Studio? Does any approach allow one to monitor the service real-time as well as providing historical analysis? I can dig into the details myself but would appreciate some broad guidance to help demystify this subject.

    Hi There, I am trying to build a system that allows a user to select an image from their own computer, and crop it using the jCrop tool from jQuery. My question is can I show the image the user has selected from their system without uploading it to a system, I dont really want to do two uploads, unless I can do the first upload silently?     Hello - I mostly code in Visual Studio, I like it, but lately it's making me feel a little claustrophobic. On my MacBook Pro, I've set up PHP5 and MySQL (natively). With the built-in server on the mac, does this constitute a LAMP stack? Is Mac OSX considered a Linux Environment? I have VMWare Fusion 3, should I set up a Linux OS virtually in order to implement a LAMP stack? Should I just use CakePHP or Zend? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all, I am using jasper reports - ireports. i need to create a subreport. i have a Master Reports-- which holds the subreport1 and subreport 2. Subreport 1 and 2 will have individual tables in its details band. So, while compiling master report through java class by filling it with custom datasource it has to print a single page with two table.. this is my task !! i need some more guidance to implement this ? i didnt get much tutorial for it to implement.     I working with Reporting services in Sharepoint Mode, I am able to show the report in Sql Server Reporting services report viwer , the report has multiple parameters , My question is how do I pass more thatn one parameter from a custome web part to this report. I am able to pass one parameter by implementing the ITransformableFilterValues interface in the custom webpart , what I want to do is pass more than one parameter .   • PXE booting LACP hosts on Force10 S50N with FTOS

    Hardware: S50N Firmware: FTOS 8.4.2.6 Problem: We're trying to PXE boot some servers that are connected via port-channel interfaces with LACP. Current Work-around: we PXE boot a server with a single interface (eth0), and then use a Perl script to turn up the port-channel interfaces after the server is built. Details: Is anyone doing anything similar on Force10 S50 switches with FTOS? If not, is anyone doing this on another S series, or larger chassis-based Force10? I'm wondering if Native VLAN will solve this, since ports in a port-channel cannot explicitly have a VLAN set, and they don't seem to use the tagged or untagged VLAN that the port channel is in. I will confirm this next (I think it's the only thing I haven't tried) Juniper Example: http://broken.net/openindiana/how-to-pxe-boot-systems-on-lacp-using-juniper-switches/ Cisco: there are plenty of documented ways to solve this issue on IOS and Nexus Update/Edit: since there seems to be no way to use interface or port-channel mode commands to get the individual interfaces to show up in spanning-tree (rtsp in this case), the ports should never go into a forwarding state. I'm not going to mess with it anymore unless a) someone that has experience passes it on, or b) Force10 comes up with a solution for this (I'm guessing it will only be introduced on other S platforms (S55, S60), since the S50 seems to be near EOL). I'm basing that on the fact that the Open Automation type features are only being supported on the newer switches.

I tried making the .am or the .in files, but GnuMake says there is nothing to make. I tried running the shell scripts, but I got errors. Any guidance appreciated.

  • Why shouldn't I always use nullable types in C#.

    I've been searching for some good guidance on this since the concept was introduced in .net 2.0. Why would I ever want to use non-nullable data types in c#? (A better question is why wouldn't I choose nullable types by default, and only use non-nullable types when that explicitly makes sense.) Is there a 'significant' performance hit to choosing a nullable data type over its non-nullable peer? I much prefer to check my values against null instead of Guid.empty, string.empty, DateTime.MinValue,<= 0, etc, and to work with nullable types in general. And the only reason I don't choose nullable types more often is the itchy feeling in the back of my head that makes me feel like it's more than backwards compatibility that forces that extra '?' character to explicitly allow a null value. Is there anybody out there that always (most always) chooses nullable types rather than non-nullable types? Thanks for your time,
