• Asp .Net MVC Viewmodel should be class or struct?

  Hey guys, I have just been thinking about the concept of view model object we create in asp.net MVC. Our purpose is to instantiate it and pass it from controller to view and view read it and display the data. Those view model are usually instantiated through constructor. We won't need to initialize the members, we may not need to redefine/override parameterless constructor and we don't need inheritance feature there. So, why don't we use struct type for our view model instead of class. It will enhance the performance.

  Groovy adds each() and a number of other methods to java.lang.Object. I can't figure out how to use the Groovy metaclass to dynamically replace the default each() on a Java class. • simplejson double escapes data causing invalid JSON string

  I have a simple form for managing manufacturers in my shop. After posting form, ajax call returns json with updated data to the form. Problem is, that the returned string is invalid. It looks like it was double-escaped. Strangely similar approach across the whole shop works without any problems. I'm also using jquery 1.6 as javascript framework. Model contains of 3 fields : char for name, text for description and image field for manufacturer logo.   I have two final classes that are used in my unit test. I am trying to use whenNew on the constructor of a final class, but I see that it calls the actual constructor. • Why don't Domain class static methods work from inside a grails "service"?

  I want a grails service to be able to access Domain static methods, for queries, etc. For example, in a controller, I can call IncomingCall.count() to get the number of records in table "IncomingCall" but if I try to do this from inside a service, I get the error: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'incomingStatusService': Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: static ms.wdw.tropocontrol.IncomingCall.count() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] How do these methods get injected? There's no magic def statement in a controller that appears to do this. Or is the problem that Hibernate isn't available from my Service class?

• Simplifying a four-dimensional rule table in Matlab: addressing rows and columns of each dimension

  Hi all. I'm currently trying to automatically generate a set of fuzzy rules for a set of observations which contain four values for each observation, where each observation will correspond to a state (a good example is with Fisher's Iris Data). In Matlab I am creating a four dimensional rule table where a single cell (a,b,c,d) will contain the corresponding state. To reduce the table I am following the Hong and Lee method of row and column similarity checking but I am having difficulty understanding how to address the third and fourth dimensions' rows and columns. From the method it is my understanding that each dimension is addressed individually and if the rule is true, the table is simplified. The rules for merging are as follows: If all cells in adjacent columns or rows are the same. If two cells are the same or if either of them is empty in adjacent columns or rows and at least one cell in both is not empty. If all cells in a column or row are empty and if cells in its two adjacent columns or rows are the same, merge the three. If all cells in a column or row are empty and if cells in its two adjacent columns or rows are the same or either of them is empty, merge the three. If all cells in a column or row are empty and if all the non-empty cells in the column or row to its left have the same region, and all the non-empty cells in the column or row to its right have the same region, but one different from the previously mentioned region, merge these three columns into two parts. Now for the confusing bit. Simply checking if the entire row/column is the same as the adjacent (rule 1) seems simple enough: if (a,:,:,:) == (a+1,:,:,:) (:,b,:,:) == (:,b+1,:,:) (:,:,c,:) == (:,:,c+1,:) (:,:,:,d) == (:,:,:,d+1) is this correct? but to check if the elements in the row/column match, or either is zero (rules 2 and 4), I am a bit lost. Would it be something along these lines: for a = 1:20 for i = 1:length(b) if (a+1,i,:,:) == (a,i,:,:) ... else if (a+1,i,:,:) == 0 ... else if (a,i,:,:) == 0 etc. and for the third and fourth dimensions: for c = 1:20 for i = 1:length(a) if (i,:,c,:) == (i,:,c+1,:) ... else if (i,:,c+1,:) == 0 ... else if (i,:,c,:) == 0 etc. for d = 1:20 for i = 1:length(a) if (i,:,:,d) == (i,:,:,d+1) ... else if (i,:,:,d+1) == 0 ... else if (i,:,:,d) == 0 etc. even any help with four dimensional arrays would be useful as I'm so confused by the thought of more than three! I would advise you look at the paper to understand my meaning - they themselves have used the Iris data but only given an example with a 2D table. Thanks in advance, hopefully!

  I have few problems with my basic and would be thankful if someone can clear this. What does it mean when I say base *b = new derived; Why would one go for this? We very well separately can create objects for class base and class derived and then call the functions accordingly. I know that this base *b = new derived; is called as Object Slicing but why and when would one go for this? I know why it is not advisable to convert the base class object to derived class object (because base class is not aware of the derived class members and methods). I even read in other StackOverflow threads that if this is gonna be the case then we have to change/re-visit our design.   In a Visual Studio Add-In, I'm enumerating over the members of a class in the current source file. When I encounter a property (e.g. CodeElement.Kind == vsCMElement.vsCMElementProperty) I cast that CodeElement to a CodeProperty and I can see the property's name and type. What I'm having a problem with is getting a list of the property's implemented interfaces. I'm wondering if this is because the implemented interfaces might be in assemblies that Visual Studio doesn't "know" about. Is there a way to get the list of interfaces that a property implements? • How to test the XML sent to a web service in Ruby/Rails

  I'm looking for the best way to write unit test for code that POSTs to an external web service. The body of the POST request is an XML document which describes the actions and data for the web service to perform. Now, I've wrapped the webservice in its own class (similar to ActiveResource), and I can't see any way to test the exact XML being generated by the class without breaking encapsulation by exposing some of the internal XML generation as public methods on the class. This seems to be a code smell - from the point-of-view of the users of the class, they should not know, nor care, how the class actually implements the web service call, be it with XML, JSON or carrier pigeons. For an example of the class: class Resource def new #initialize the class end def save! Http.post("http://webservice.com", self.to_xml) end private def to_xml # returns an XML representation of self end end I want to be able to test the XML generated to ensure it conforms to what the specs for the web service are expecting. So can I best do this, without making to_xml a public method?

• Tying PyQt4 QAction triggered() to local class callable doesn't seem to work. How to debug this?

  I create this object when I want to create a QAction. I then add this QAction to a menu: class ActionObject(object): def __init__(self, owner, command): action = QtGui.QAction(command.name, owner) self.action = action self.command = command action.setShortcut(command.shortcut) action.setStatusTip(command.name) QtCore.QObject.connect(action, QtCore.SIGNAL('triggered()'), self.triggered) def triggered(self): print("got triggered " + self.command.id + " " + repr(checked)) Unfortunately, when the menu item is selected, the 'triggered' function is not called. QtCore.QObject.connect() returns True. Nothing is printed on the console to indicate that anything is wrong, and no exception is thrown. How can I debug this? (or, what am I doing wrong?)

  Hi I new to hibernate In my project, i need to handle transactions. How to handle declarative transactions with in two classes Examples: //class 1 class A{ createA() { insert(A); } } //class 2 class B { createB() { insert(B); } } //class 3 @Transaction(Exception.class) class C { test() { create(A); create(B); } } As per the above code is there any possibility to handle transactions, in such a way that if the insert in classA success and the insert in the classB fails then the transaction should rollback and remove the record inserted in the table A corresponding to the Class A please help me with this using declarative transactions.... • Can I destroy a class instance even if there are still references?

  For debugging reasons I want to destroy a class instance which still as references. Is that possible? It doesn't have to be elegant or stable, because this'll never end up in production code. To clarify: Public Sub Main Dim o as MyClass Set o = New MyClass //o is created, one reference DestroyObject o //Class_Terminate is called and the object destroyed //Further code, not using o End Sub //Possible runtime error here (don't care) Is that possible? One way would be to call IUnknown::Release to manually decrease the reference count, but how do I now how often I must call it?
