• XCart Skip Checkout Steps

  I am using xcart. In the checkout process, skip the step that appears after a customer clicks the add to cart button on the product page. It takes them to a page that shows the product and the text Added to your shopping cart. I want to take them directly to the view cart page, right before the checkout page. I also tried: Enable Redirect customer to cart after adding a product option in X-Cart admin back-end -Settings - General settings. Still not working. Anybody have Idea about this?

  Possible Duplicate: The SEO Benefit of Breaking Up Content Onto Different Websites I was wondering if (assuming all your content is related) it would be better to put all your content under a single domain or multiple domains that link to each other. Lets say I have Site A which doesn't have a good search ranking. If I have a new product that I'm sure could get a good ranking on its own would I get a better search ranking for Site A if I - Add the new product as a new section to Site A. Or put the product on new Site B and link back to Site A. To give you an example if you were developing a few browser plugins would it be better (in terms of ranking) to showcase them all in the same site, or would you give them each their own domain's that link to each other? • Concatenate 2 text elements on a line with full-width border using CSS only

  Okay, I'm a newbie to CSS3, so please be gentle. ;-) I'm working with some Wordpress code (Woocommerce plugin, to be exact), and I'm trying to format a line of code in a sidebar so that 2 separate text items (one in an <a, the other in a <span are all on the same line, the full width of the column, and with a bottom border. It looks something like this (except the bottom border on each text do not go all the way across the enclosing sidebar box): http://www.dalluva.com/temp/browse-catalog.JPG (sorry, I'm new and can't post inline images yet) Here's the code fragment I'm trying to live with (i.e. I don't want to change it): <div class="widget"> ... <ul class="product-categories"> <li class="cat-item"> <a href="http://localhost/dalluva/shop/product-category/books/">Books</a> <span class="count">(5)</span> </li> ... • Copy all files and folders excluding subversion files and folders on OS X

  I'm trying to copy all files and folders from one directory to another, but exclude certain files. Specifically, I want to exclude subversion files and folders. However, I'd like a general yet concise solution. I imagine I'll find the need to exclude several types of files in the near future. For example, I might want to exclude .svn, *.bak, and *.prj. Here is what I've put together so for, but it is not working for me. The first part, find works, but I'm doing something wrong with xargs and cp. I tried cp with and without the -R. Also, I'm using OS X and it appears to have a less featured version of xargs than linux systems. find ./sourcedirectory -not \( -name .svn -a -prune \) | xargs -IFILES cp -R FILES ./destinationdirectory

• Are Plesk server backups useful?

  I'm working for a startup now, and I'm the programmer. Because of our small team size, I'm also handling the server management for now (until we get a dedicated server administrator.) I've never used Plesk before, and the server we're using (a Media Temple Dedicated Virtual server) had it installed when I got here. One of my first jobs was to set up backups: Plesk was already running it's nightly server-wide backups. I created a small script to dump the web app, it's DBs and any assets, tar them, store them, and then copy them to another small server we have (to backup the backups.) But, we're constantly running into hard drive space issues because of the Plesk backups. And I'm wondering, are they useful? If I have the web app and all of it's assets, I could easily enough get another server up and running. Do we need to keep running Plesk's backups? Thoughts?

  Wikipedia claims (although the latter claim does not cite a source) that: High-end keyboards that provide full n-key rollover typically do so via a PS/2 interface as the USB mode most often used by operating systems has a maximum of only six keys plus modifiers that can be pressed at the same time.[4] This hinders fast typists, ... In what way would the system being able to recognize only six non-modifier keys at once hinder a fast typist? I consider myself a relatively fast typist and I usually press one key, plus modifiers, at once; I can't imagine any real-life situation in which the system only recognizing six non-modifier keys being pressed at once has been a limiting factor in my keyboard usage. (Multi-stroke keyboard shortcuts as used by high-end software like Visual Studio, Emacs and the like are a different matter.) Note that I am not really interested in answers centered around multiplayer computer games; I'm looking for answers that give reasons that would be relevant to typists, somehow supporting the statement made on Wikipedia.

• What is the difference between /sbin/nologin and /bin/false?

  I have often heard it recommended that a user account should be disabled by setting its shell to /bin/false. But, on my existing Linux systems, I see that a great number of existing accounts (all of them service accounts) have a shell of /sbin/nologin instead. I see from the man page that /sbin/nologin prints a message to the user saying the account is disabled, and then exits. Presumably /bin/false would not print anything. I also see that /sbin/nologin is listed in /etc/shells, while /bin/false is not. The man page says that FTP will disable access for users with a shell not listed in /etc/shells and implies that other programs may do the same. Does that mean that somebody could FTP in with an account that has /sbin/nologin as its shell? What is the difference here? Which one of these should I use to disable a user account, and in what circumstances? What other effects does a listing in /etc/shells have?

• ShoreTel 230 phone calls from website

  Our company uses these fancy ShoreTel 230 phones. We make many phone calls from our custom built web based contact management system. It would be nice if our employees could click on a phone number from a webpage and have it automatically start dialing the number. (Similar to how iPhone handles this) Anyone every deploy something like this? I would imagine it would require some kind of background running ShoreTel process to accommodate this. 90% of our employees use PC (Windows 7) 10% use OS X Even a PC only solution would be great. Is this even possible and if so, where should one begin? Thanks!

• what's POST code 18 / can I run an ASRock P55 Pro + Core i3 530?

  When I switch my newly built PC on, the fans start up, but I get nothing on the monitor, and the POST display on the motherboard runs quickly through various codes and then stops at code 18, which does not appear in the manual (the list there seems identical to this one). This lasts about 10 seconds, after which the machine shuts down. After a pause (also about 10 seconds) it starts up again, and this repeats until I cut the power. Interestingly, when I push the reset button, it stops at POST code 16 (which is also not listed in the manual). Does anyone have information about the meaning of those codes? Motherboard: ASRock P55 Pro CPU: Intel Core i3 530 Graphics Card: Sapphire HHD 5750 Does anyone have experience with that Motherboard/CPU combination? It says on the packaging and in the manual that it's only compatible with Core i5 and i7 (no mention of i3), but on the maker's product page, the i3 is listed as compatible as well.

• Why do some machines respond with many RST packets instead of RST-ACK to refuse a connection?

  I have recently been trying to track down a problem with one of our systems and have noticed that it is simply not allowed to connect to a remote machine. However, the remote machine (not controlled by us) is responding to our request for a connection with many TCP RST packets on a different port (26469, 26497, 26498) than the one we originated on (53). It simply wouldn't let up at one point and flooded us with about 10 packets/second for an hour or two of only RST on those obscure high ports. Out of the thousands of nodes we're connecting to, this is the only one ever to show this behavior. What could possibly cause this? EDIT Below is a screenshot of Wireshark when it happened. I don't have the actual dump anymore and can't reproduce this specific scenario every time. Basically, we sent a SYN and immediately got RST on an odd port and so we respond with RST and just keep going back and forth.

• Fullscreen Photo/Video Slideshow App?

  I have a folder that contains a lot of subfolders which include photos and/or videos. Is there any free application that would display them in a random slideshow? It's something I want to run on a PC mounted on a wall. I point it to that folder and it starts displaying it, with some random/nice transitions. No need for anything more fancy, except maybe Previous/Next controls. Edit: Just a quick clarification. Those pictures change all the time, and there are many of them. It's supposed to be in a store to display product pictures, so it's not like someone is actively watching the whole show. Currently, there are around 150,000 pictures or videos.

• What's a worthwhile test for a new HD?

  I work for a company that uses standard 2.5" SATA HD's in our product. We presently test them by running the Linux 'badblocks -w' command on them when we get them - but they are 160 gig drives, so that takes like 5 hours (we boot parted magic onto a PC to do the scan). We don't actually build that many systems at a time, so this doable, but seriously annoying. Is there any research or anecdotal evidence on what a good incoming test for a hard drive should be? I'm thinking that we should just wipe them with all zeros, write out our image, and do a full drive read back. That would end up being only about 1 hour 45 minutes total. Given that drives do block remapping on their own, would what I've proposed show up any infant mortality just as well as running badblocks?

  I bought this laptop used from a friend. The laptop has 500gb of storage; however, the drive is partioned. The C: drive has an allocated space of 50gb whereas the partition has 396gb allocated to it. How do i either take some of the space from the partition and move it to the C: drive, or get rid of the partition? I've done some searching and people say I'm supposed to be able to use "Disc Management" to "delete volume," but when i right click on the partition the "delete volume" is not enabled. • TCO Comparison: Oracle Exadata vs IBM P-Series

  Cost Comparison for Business Decision-makersOracle Exadata Database Machine vs. IBM Power SystemsHow to Weigh a Purchase DecisionOctober 2012 Download full report here In this research-based  white paper conducted at the request of Oracle, The FactPoint Group compares the cost of ownership of the Oracle Exadata engineered system to a traditional build-your-own (BYO) solution, in this case an IBM Power 770 (P770) with SAN storage.  The IBM P770 was chosen given it is IBM’s current most popular model, based on FactPoint primary and secondary research and IBM claims, and because at least one of the interviewed customers had specifically migrated from a P770 to Exadata, affording us a more specific data point for comparison. This research found that Oracle Exadata: Can be deployed more quickly and easily requiring 59% fewer man-hours than a traditional IBM Power Systems solution. Delivers dramatically higher performance typically up to 12X improvement, as described by customers, over their prior solution.  Requires 40% fewer systems administrator hours to maintain and operate annually, including quicker support calls because of less finger-pointing and faster service with a single vendor.  Will become even easier to operate over time as users become more proficient and organize around the benefits of integrated infrastructure. Supplies a highly available, highly scalable and robust solution that results in reserve capacity that make Exadata easier for IT to operate because IT administrators can manage proactively, not reactively.  Overall, Exadata operations and maintenance keep IT administrators from “living on the edge.”  And it’s pre-engineered for long-term growth. Finally, compared to IBM Power Systems hardware, Exadata is a bargain from a total cost of ownership perspective:  Over three years, the IBM hardware running Oracle Database cost 31% more in TCO than Exadata.

The well-known characteristics and tiers of cloud computing have spawned myriad implementations by a host of vendors and system integrators. One of these, Oracle's Exalogic Elastic Cloud, part of Oracle's family of Engineered Systems, is a key component of Oracle's public and private cloud computing solutions, providing critical PaaS (Platform as a Service) features for cloud developers. These developers need guidance to take advantage of Exalogic's extensive capabilities, and the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Handbook, written by three highly experienced Oracle technologists, provides that guidance.
