  • Random number within a range based on a normal distribution

    I'm math challenged today :( I want to generate random numbers with a range (n to m, eg 100 to 150), but instead of purely random I want the results to be based on the normal distribution. By this I mean that in general I want the numbers "clustered" around 125. I've found this random number package that seems to have a lot of what I need: http://beta.codeproject.com/KB/recipes/Random.aspx It supports a variety of random generators (include mersiene twister) and can apply the generator to a distribution. But I'm confused... if I use a normal distribution generator the random numbers are from roughly -6 to +8 (apparently the true range is float.min to float.max). How do a scale that to my required range?

    Hi, How can GQL support ORDER BY when it does not support aggregation? The question is - if say the result of the query is more than 1000, does ORDER BY return fully ordered list or only the first 1000 items which is then ordered? To explain the question more: is conceptually MIN() same as query.orderby('asc').fetch(1)? If it is properly ordering the list, then how can it not provide COUNT(), since to properly order the list, GQL possibly has to parse through the whole list - in which case, COUNT() is not an issue at all? Or is item indexed and kept in some type of tree so that it does not need to parse it all the time?

  • Show all objects on canvas in window

    Hello -- We have a canvas with a large number of objects. The user can pan and zoom the view of the canvas. I am trying to figure out how to implement "show entire canvas" -- that is, zoom and center the canvas in the window to show all objects. We know the max and min X and Y coordinates. I am looking at our current zoom and pan implementations to try to figure out if there is a way to use them. Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated... Thanks.

    Firstly I used this call jQuery('#grid').jqGrid('editRow',id,true,pickdates);, it worked fine with UI Datepicker integration, but editRow is implemented for inline editing, but I prefer modal dialog, so I switched to editGridRow, now I can't find the way to call my custom function (pickdates) in onClick-event.     Hello, I'm working on developing a GUI for the recompilation of Linux kernel. For this I need to implement 4-5 Linux commands from Python. I use Qt as GUI designer. I have successfully implemented the commands using os.system() call. But the output is obtained at the console. The real problem is the output of command is a listing that takes almost 20-25 min continuous printing. How we can transfer this console output to a text box designed in Qt. Can any one help me to implement the setSource() operation in Qt using source as the live console outputs.

  • Changing an Action Type="click" to an auto action in SVG

    I have a SVG document that I exported from Visio 2003 that would like to edit. This file has an action where you click a button it will navigate to a new screen. What I would like to do is have the navigation be based off of a data point rather than having to click the button. As an example I have a dynamic point data being brought into the SVG file and when that value changes from 0 to 1, I want this screen to automatically navigate to another screen.     Why is it in the following silverlight application that when I: change the default text in the first textbox move the cursor to the second text box (i.e. take focus off first textbox) click the button that inside the button handler, it still has the old value "default text"?     I have an html textarea that is of fixed width, but variable height. I would like to set overflow:scroll and be able to show a vertical scrollbar, but not a horizontal one. I am not able to use overflow:auto due to other things specific to my situation. I know there is no way using CSS 2 to show only vertical but not horizontal scrollbars. Is there anything I can do with javascript to hide the horizontal scrollbar?

I am trying to write a function that will read the data from these log files into a data frame ignoring the summary information. The summary information never contains a tab, so the following function works: read.parameters <- function(file.name, ...){ lines <- scan("tmp.log", what="character", sep="\n") first.line <- min(grep("\\t", lines)) return(read.delim(file.name, skip=first.line-1, ...)) } However, these logfiles are quite big, and so reading the file twice is very slow. Surely there is a better way?
