How do I use connect to DB2 with DBI and mod_perl?

I'm having issues with getting DBI's IBM DB2 driver to work with mod_perl. I get this error in apache's error log: DBD::DB2::dr connect warning: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Apache/DBI.pm line 190. DBI connect('SAMPLE','username',...) failed: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /data/www/perl/test.pl line 15 First of all, why is it using ODBC? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google. Update: As james2vegas pointed out, the problem has something to do with PHP: I disable PHP all together I get the a different error: Total Environment allocation failure! Did you set up your DB2 client environment? I believe this error is to do with environment variables not being set up correctly, namely DB2INSTANCE. However, I'm not able to turn off PHP to resolve this problem (I need it for some legacy applications). So I now have 2 questions: How can I fix the original issue without disabling PHP all together? How can I fix the environment issue? I've set DB2INSTANCE, DB2_PATH and SQLLIB variables correctly using SetEnv and PerlSetEnv in httpd.conf, but with no luck. Note: I've edited the code to determine if the problem was to do with Global Variable Persistence.

Coding solution to WAR installation error (Websphere Portal 6.0) ?

I have a Websphere Portal application containing several portlets for which I'm currently working on some changes. A week ago, the WAR file produced by Rational Application Developer could be installed on the Portal server with no problems. Yesterday I made some seemingly minor changes to two JSP files and their associated "pagecode" Java files, and attempting to update the WAR on the server (using the Portal Administration web interface) now produces an error message. The WAR upload works, and the system shows me the correct list of portlets in the WAR file, but clicking "Finish" gives me a page with the error message "EJPAQ1319E: Cannot install the selected WAR file. View Details". Explanation: A portlet application containing legacy portlets can only be updated with another portlet application that contains legacy portlets. The same is true for standard portlet applications. User Response: Modify the portlet.xml of the application such that it matches the original API type, standard or legacy and try again. However, the "portlet.xml" file has not changed in about a month, and I've done several WAR updates for this application in that time with no problems. The problem seems to be caused by the code changes I did yesterday, but I have no clue why a few lines of code would do this. Any ideas?

How do I get my snapshots in Nexus to appear in the m2eclipse dependency search?

Hi, I've been working through the Nexus guide this weekend and I've got everything set up, to the point that I can publish a snapshot to my local nexus install. I can't seem to work out how to get m2eclipse to see the snapshot and offer it as an option in the Add Dependencies search panel. How do I do that? Thanks! PXE boot and DHCP server configuration Failing Auto Installation

I have a ISC DHCP Server installed on Ubuntu 9.10 . I have managed to successfully boot a PXE client , obtain a DHCP address and load the initrd.gz file. But I am facing a vague problem when the debian installer starts up and tries to get a DHCP server The client send a DHCP request and I verified that is the same MAC Address. But I get a DHCP DECLINE (The client declines the address ). It offers all the address in the pool and then there is a DHCP NAK (no more free leases ) I tried using the Option no-ping, and also option one-client-one-lease but it does not help . Migrating to Amazon AWS etc: What key statistics/questions should be analyzed and asked?

I searched SOverflow pretty extensively for something similar to this set of questions. BACKGROUND: We are a growing 'big(ish)' data chemical data company that are outgrowing our lab and our dedicated production workhorses. Make no mistake, we need to do some serious query optimization. Our data (It comes from a certain govt. agency so the schema and lack of indexing is atrocious). So yes, I know, AWS or EC2 is not a silver bullet in the face of spending time to maybe rework your queries/code entirely 'out of the box'. With that said I would appreciate any input on the following questions: We produce on CentOS and lab on Ubuntu LTS which I prefer especially with their growing cloud / AWS integration. If we are mysql centric, and our biggest problem is these big cartesian products that produce slow queries, should we roll out what we know after more optimization with respect to Ubuntu/mySQL with the added Amazon horsepower? Or is there some merit to the NoSQL and other technologies they offer? What are the key metrics I need to gather from apache and mysql other than like: Disk I/O operations, Data up/down avgs and trends and special high usage periods/scenarios? I've reviewed AWS/EC2 fine print, but want 2nd opinions. What other services aside from the basic web/database have proven valuable to you? I know nothing of Hadoop or many other technologies they offer, echoing my prev. question, do you sometimes find it worth it (Initially having it be a gamble aside from basic homework) to dive/break into a whole new environment and try to/or end up finding a way of more efficiently producing your data/site product? Anything I should watch out for in projecting costs, or any other general advice when working with AWS folks from anyone else where your company is very niche and very very technical (Scientifically - or anybody for that matter)? I think the key word in this announcement is "commercial", nowhere does Oracle announce the "death of GlassFish" in contrary Oracle reaffirm; GlassFish Server Open Source Edition continues to be the strategic foundation for Java EE reference implementation going forward. And for developers, updates will be delivered as needed to continue to deliver a great developer experience for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition so GlassFish is not about to go away soon. In a similar fashion RedHat do not provide commercial support for WildFly and only provide commercial support for JBoss EAP. Admittedly JBoss EAP and WildFly are much closer together than GlassFish and WebLogic but WildFly and JBoss EAP are absolutely NOT the same thing. The key going forward to the viability of GlassFish as a production platform is how the GlassFish community develops; How often does the community release binary builds? How open is the community to bug fixes? How much engineering resource does Oracle commit to GlassFish? At this stage we just don't know the answers to these questions. If the GlassFish open source project continues on it's current trajectory without a commercial support offering then I don't see much of a problem. Oracle just have to work harder to sell migration paths to WebLogic in the same way as RedHat have to sell migration paths from WildFly to JBoss EAP. In the meantime C2B2 continues to offer support for your operational JEE applications running on GlassFish and we will endeavour to work with the community to get any bugs fixed. The current trunk is where an implementation for Java EE 8 will flourish, and this will become the future GlassFish 5.0. Calling "GlassFish is dead" does no good to the Java EE ecosystem. The GlassFish Community will remain strong towards the future of Java EE. Without revenue-focused mind, this might actually help the GlassFish community to shape the next version, and set free from any ties with commercial decisions. Fact #2 - OGS support is not over As I said before, GlassFish Server Open Source Edition will continue. Main change is that there will be no more future commercial releases of Oracle GlassFish Server. New and existing OGS 2.1.x and 3.1.x commercial customers will continue to be supported according to the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy. In parallel, I believe there's no other company in the Java EE business that offers commercial support to more than one build of a Java EE application server. This new direction can actually help customers and partners, simplifying decision through commercial negotiations. Fact #3 - WebLogic is not always more expensive than OGS Oracle GlassFish Server ("OGS") is a build of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition bundled with a set of commercial features called GlassFish Server Control and license bundles such as Java SE Support. OGS has at the moment of this writing the pricelist of U$ 5,000 / processor. One information that some bloggers are mentioning is that WebLogic is more expensive than this. Fact 3.1: it is not necessarily the case. The initial edition of WebLogic is called "Standard Edition" and falls into a policy where some “Standard Edition” products are licensed on a per socket basis. As of current pricelist, US$ 10,000 / socket. If you do the math, you will realize that WebLogic SE can actually be significantly more cost effective than OGS, and a customer can save money if running on a CPU with 4 cores or more for example. Quote from the price list: “When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name (with the exception of Java SE Support, Java SE Advanced, and Java SE Suite), a processor is counted equivalent to an occupied socket; however, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.” For more details speak to your Oracle sales representative - this is clearly at list price and every customer typically has a relationship with Oracle (like they do with other vendors) and different contractual details may apply. And although OGS has always been production-ready for Java EE applications, it is no secret that WebLogic has always been more enterprise, mission critical application server than OGS since BEA. Different editions of WLS provide features and upgrade irons like the WebLogic Diagnostic Framework, Work Managers, Side by Side Deployment, ADF and TopLink bundled license, Web Tier (Oracle HTTP Server) bundled licensed, Fusion Middleware stack support, Oracle DB integration features, Oracle RAC features (such as GridLink), Coherence Management capabilities, Advanced HA (Whole Service Migration and Server Migration), Java Mission Control, Flight Recorder, Oracle JDK support, etc. Fact #4 - There’s no major vendor supporting community builds of Java EE app servers There are no major vendors providing support for community builds of any Open Source application server. For example, IBM used to provide community support for builds of Apache Geronimo, not anymore. Red Hat does not commercially support builds of WildFly and if I remember correctly, never supported community builds of former JBoss AS. Oracle has never commercially supported GlassFish Server Open Source Edition builds. Tomitribe appears to be the exception to the rule, offering commercial support for Apache TomEE. Fact #5 - WebLogic and GlassFish share several Java EE implementations It has been no secret that although GlassFish and WebLogic share some JSR implementations (as stated in the The Aquarium announcement: JPA, JSF, WebSockets, CDI, Bean Validation, JAX-WS, JAXB, and WS-AT) and WebLogic understands GlassFish deployment descriptors, they are not from the same codebase. Fact #6 - WebLogic is not for GlassFish what JBoss EAP is for WildFly WebLogic is closed-source offering. It is commercialized through a license-based plus support fee model. OGS although from an Open Source code, has had the same commercial model as WebLogic. Still, one cannot compare GlassFish/WebLogic to WildFly/JBoss EAP. It is simply not the same case, since Oracle has had two different products from different codebases. The comparison should be limited to GlassFish Open Source / Oracle GlassFish Server versus WildFly / JBoss EAP. JBOSS 7.1 started hanging after 6 months of deployment

My application is been live from 6 months. The application is host on jboss 7.1 server. From last few days I am finding numerous problem of hanging of jboss server. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of these problems and the workable resolutions or any suggestion ? Kindly dont degrade the question as I am facing a lot problems due to this hanging issue. Also for the information, the application is based on Java, GWT, Hibernate 3. GlusterFS on VMWare ESXi 5

I want to build network file system on top of my VMWare ESXi based virtual nodes which are running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am evalaluating options and found that GlusterFS (http://www.gluster.org/) can turn out to be a good choice. Purpose: I have about 2 dozen VM nodes with different configurations, on 2 physical nodes which has following configuration: 16 core Intel Xeon 1 TB 48 GB RAM Now as I said earlier each Physical server has about 1TB hdd and I can increase if I want additional so for now I have 2TB disk space available, these space is distributed in VM nodes I have created on which about 2 dozen VM nodes live. Now some of them being application server and mgmt server, they have plenty of free disk space which I want to utilize for some heavy storage which I can not design if I do that individually on single VM node. This way if my storage is distributed between dozens of VM nodes and about 2 or more physical nodes I have some sort of backup as well. I do not mind if data gets stored redundently but per my knowledge it might hapeen that individual VM nodes will not be able to store all of the data because complete data size for example if we take 100GB will exceed VM disk size of 70GB and then VM will also have system and program files on it. I need some suggestion that will GlusterFS be the solution for which I am looking forward to or I should go with something like hadoop? I am not too sure. But yes, I would like to utilize my free space on each VM node and while doing that if I get store data redundently I am okay because it will give me data security.

Unable to force Debian to do unattended install... libc6 wants interactive confirm

I'm trying to create a script that forces a Debian Lenny install to install the latest version of CRAN R. During the install it appears libc6 is upgraded and the install wants interactive confirm that it's OK to restart three services (mysql, exim4, cron). This process HAS to be unattended as it runs on Amazon's Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) machines. But I'm running out of options. Here's a few things I've tried: This previous question appears to be exactly what I'm looking for. So is there a way to make libc6 just restart these services with no user input? Or is there a way to stop cron so it does not cause an interactive prompt? Maybe a creative option I've never thought of? Keep in mind that this system is brought up, some Hadoop code is run, and then it's torn down. So I can put up with side effects and bad behavior that we might not want in a production desktop machine or web server.

Dear Serverfault community, After researching a number of distributed file systems for deployment in a production environment with the main purpose of performing both batch and real-time distributed computing I've identified the following list as potential candidates, mainly on maturity, license and support: Ceph Lustre GlusterFS HDFS FhGFS MooseFS XtreemFS The key properties that our system should exhibit: an open source, liberally licensed, yet production ready, e.g. a mature, reliable, community and commercially supported solution; ability to run on commodity hardware, preferably be designed for it; provide high availability of the data with the most focus on reads; high scalability, so operation over multiple data centres, possibly on a global scale; removal of single points of failure with the use of replication and distribution of (meta-)data, e.g. provide fault-tolerance. The sensitivity points that were identified, and resulted in the following questions, are: transparency to the processing layer / application with respect to data locality, e.g. know where data is physically located on a server level, mainly for resource allocation and fast processing, high performance, how can this be accomplished? Do you from experience know what solutions provide this transparency and to what extent? posix compliance, or conformance, is mentioned on the wiki pages of most of the above listed solutions. The question here mainly is, how relevant is support for the posix standard? Hadoop for example isn't posix compliant by design, what are the pro's and con's? what about the difference between synchronous and asynchronous opeartion of a distributed file system. I've also installed and using IDEs/editors like Sublime Text, NetBeans. I'm also using Git repository for my website development as a versioning tool. Following are the issues about which I'm little bit scared about and I need you all talented people's expert advice/help/suggestions on it: Will upgrading to "Ubuntu 14.04 'Trusty Tahr'" affect the softwares I mentioned above? I mean will I need to re-install/un-install and install these softwares too? Do I really need to and is it really a worth to upgrade to "Ubuntu 14.04 'Trusty Tahr'" from "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS" now? If I upgrade to "Ubuntu 14.04 'Trusty Tahr'" what advantage I'll get from web developer's point of view? Will the upgrade be hassle free and will I be ablr to continue my on-going work without any difficulties? Is "Ubuntu 14.04 'Trusty Tahr'" a LTS version and if yes till when it's going to provide support? These are the five crucial queries I have.
